Thanks for explaining, I was confused, thought you meant replacing the fans in a traditional cooler on a graphics card. Makes sense to upgrade the fans on a hybrid cooler. I hadn't heard of cougar fans before, but they look pretty good and are definitely cheaper than the Noctuas I bought in the past. I will check them out and give them a shot, thanks for the heads up.

Stock has been available since April. You just have to be quick enough to grab one before they're all sold out. I was able to grab one 2 weeks ago and it was delivered to me last Wednesday.

Per my correspondence with EVGA, no, it does not void the warranty. I asked specifically about Grizzly Hydronaut and they said all good. They also confirmed that it's perfectly fine (meaning no harm to the warranty) to install their hybrid cooler using the TIM of your choice. Just don't physically damage something in the process is all they ask.

That decides it then, I'll be using EVGA founders edition for my custom hybrid GPU block project

I was finally set on buying an EVGA 1080 hybrid cooler when I got the email that the ( much more expensive ) Ti / Titan XP cooler was in stock. Probably could have saved a buck going with the non-Ti/XP cooler but I like EVGA's warranty.

I want it so bad but $780 is just ridiculous.

If going that far, +$30 more for the sc2 hybrid is a better deal to me than the FTW3 considering the speeds both get.

I bit on the FTW3 purely for the aesthetics. Damn behavioral ad placement was slapping pics of it on so many of the websites I was on. The irony of that is I work for a company that serves those ads and tracks the click though sales. It's a very nice looking card and it runs extremely cool. I haven't had it go higher than 60c overclocked and under 100% load.. I do have some crazy air cooling going on and I have a medium level fan curve which was built into XOC applied. I can't hear the fans over my case fans.

Has anyone tried out the slave bios on their FTW3 yet? Apparently it allows a 127% power target max (10% higher than the master bios).

Thats the only way to roll! Slave bios i believe also has a more aggressive fan profile.

Turn the system off and flip thst bios switch!

Yeah - going to flip the psu main off and wait for the mobo lights to shut off then flip and go. I'm still shocked how much cooler this thing runs than the zotac and no discernible noise.

EDIT: that did help. I am running with +50 +200 offsets which yields 2025/5701 but am slamming into the power and voltage limits. The card throttles back to 2000 ~ 1987 but hangs closer to the 2000 mark while benching. I got a 9849 on Superposition 4k optimized. Higher offsets (+70 core or +250 mem) resulted in some instability. Temps still only getting to 63c (amb 22c) max here.. I had to check to make sure I was monitoring the right gpu temp. lol.

By the time a EVGA Kingpin comes out the next generation of cards is already out. Maybe if Nvidia launched a dual FE card and AIO cooler at the same time. There wouldn't be people waiting 3 months later to buy the latest card which is either a Kingpin or a FTW3 if you have the space.

This is why I am skeptical any volta cards is coming out any soon. MSI and EVGA are launching newer versions of 1080ti if Volta was anywhere close to release they wouldn't be doubling up on the 1080ti series cards.

Kingpin 980ti came out in end of July in 2015, May of 2016 the 1080 GTX was released, so 8 months, so early 2018 Volta should be released. now if nV feels they have to release before that, I think they can do it. Otherwise they won't. It just comes down to what Vega is a capable of. I think Volta all performance and enthusiast products are in production already.

Not sure one can rely upon AIB partners for when to expect a product cycle, especially as Nvidia this time reversed the order and went with largest 1st or very quickly.
Nvidia held off doing the 1080ti (March 2017) for 7 months after the launch of the Pascal Titan (August 2016).
And they did not relent to the pressure from AIB partners to allow them to do a GP102 before then.
Anyway Nvidia's product cycle this time as with Pascal is more accelerated and aligned with Tesla==Geforce, also worth considering Nvidia will need again a Titan card to support the GV100 in a reasonable time frame (as they did with Pascal) and they will not launch that until the '2080' has been launched at least 2 months before it.
So if they put the 2080 off, they then put pressure on the Tesla model as it will have to wait longer for the Titan - remember Titan was initially launched and presented towards the scientific-university community to support the GP100 and also as the ultimate consumer card.
And tbh Nvidia has shown their product cycle launch as Pascal is the 1st run showing the complete cycle and relationship between Tesla-Geforce-Quadro-Tegra (such as Drive PX2 to Xavier and also looking outside of automobile) in the new and revised business model.

Also need to consider the raw performance compute upgrade this time will not be 75% to 95% that was both arch and node shrink, which is how Nvidia also calculate their product positioning and affect on previous models along with memory/etc.
The 1070 has just a bit more raw compute power than the 980ti, but this time round the jump will probably be somewhere around 35% to 45% over the same previous model (meaning 1070 compared to '2070').

    Cheers

I'm not impressed with the kingpin edition... the only thing I really like is the location of the power connectors! I don't understand why that is not standard...

My 1080 to aorus hits a 2000mhz core with me not even touching anything... can't wait to get the water block for this bad boy and see what she can do!!

Don't get too excited. Even with LN2 these hit the wall around 2.2 GHz.

Yeah you need to hard mod the GPU and also use a custom XOC BIOS available for some cards from some manufacturers; not many supported with it, in fact better to say pretty rare which cards support it.
And tbh it is not really worth it as the wall starts to kick in it seems around 2100MHz, meaning it needs a fair amount of cooling (LN2 with said mods+BIOS) to even get above 2300MHz.

    Cheers

Make sure in evga's precision x you have the voltage maxed. All that does ia let the card use more voltage when needed. Its not going to hurt it.

And you have the power and temp maxed as well.

Yep I did that. They're all maxed out and I have XOC set to favor temp target, which it will never hit. The card runs cool and quiet and I am getting 2ghz avg in game.. All I am playing is Subnautica right now but it's working the gpu fairly hard @ 4k maxed out. I didn't win the silicon lottery but it's a good card and the iCX cooler is one of the best I have used for air.

Then forget about all that and enjoy!!

Runs cool and quiet and its getting good speeds. All that matters!

Trust me theres alot of turds out there!

I've had 2 1080 cards that woulds not run its specs!

haha.. I am. I think a lot of people are expecting these to hit 1080 speeds on the cores but we really need to reel in those expectations with the ti. These cores have quite a bit more in them so just hitting 2ghz is lucky. I have found my sweet spot and am just gaming now.

I'm not so sure as my Gigabyte Aorus 1080ti holds 2038mhz pretty consistently while gaming.

I would say one person's luck doesn't account for the vast majority. ;) I am basing this off a decent chunk of time scouring boards finding numerous posts about people having what seemed like a lot more bad luck finding cards that clocked much beyond factory speeds - and in more cases than I would expect issues holding factory boost clocks. The Aorus was one that seemed to have a lot of issues at factory boost.. After a flurry of bad reviews on the 'zon and the 'egg It was in stock a lot more than the rest of the aib cards on nowinstock. It was probably a bad batch. The Asus STRIX seems like it was the card to get for a better shot at a good clocker. It was out of stock constantly. Well, the caffeine is working now and I am overly chatty.

Not sure what card to pick up.

I was set on FTW3. But after seeing kingping it seems they cherry picked all decent chips..? So i think ill go alternative brand FE route and give it a crack in silicone lottery.

So what 1080ti FE brand would you recommend if you were to slap waterblock on.

Reason for my choice in FE is, it is 375USD cheaper than something like Asus Posedion.
I can only imagine what Kingping will cost here.

Tuff choice.. funny that ill mention evga as you decided against it cause of possable cherry picking.

Evga wont void your warrenty for putting on a water block. They dont care.. as long as you dont physically damage the card your fine.

I'm posting this in case it might be of help to someone going down this path.

I couldn't find any photos on the interweb that provides a shot of the entire modded base plate.

    So here it is.

What Nvidia or someone need to do is have a real nice aftermarket cooler that looks similar to the what they sell for everyone who bought a FE Card.
Which is also easy to install I think that would go over big with people not willing to sell their FE card for 80.00 loss on ebay. If you don't want a watercooling loop ect...

My evga 1080ti ftw is hitting about 69c in Andromeda, this is with the side of the case off. Haven't tested with the side on since I'm still figuring out my fan setup.

So I added a second Asus STRIX 1080Ti OC to my rig to see how SLI is with these cards, I can say that the microstutter that I experienced with my MSI 1080s is NOT there. I don't understand how this could be different...but it is. The games that support SLI are smooth and fast, no menu stutter or anything. I am blown away by how fast these cars are!!!

Dude playing games with my SLI setup at 4k is fucking pcmasterrace glorious. Seriously I played bf1 today quite a bit and the game maxed out runs awesome and smooth and is beautiful with nice high fps which I love to see.

My buddy came over for a bit while I was playing and he saw the game running on my 40" 4k Samsung ku6300 and his jaw hit the floor. He plays on xbox1 lol.

Hahaha yessssss! I had another thread on here about how going from my SLI 1080 setup to a single 1080Ti felt smoother. I'm convinced there is something different about the 1080 Ti cards as far as SLI control / communication between cards. The SLI 1080 Ti's is perfectly smooth with NO microstutter in games like Division, BF1, etc. I used to get weird stuttering / jagged animations when switching between menus or zooming in and out like in BF1 when you die and pick a spawn point. The rest of my system is exactly the same as it was with the dual 1080s also, same HB SLI bridge (EVGA Pro HB bridge) and all.

These dual 1080 Ti cards are flipping amazing. I rip 200 fps maxed out in BF1 at 1440p, it sometimes dips into the 150s LOL!

Ya like someone else mentioned in this thread I bet it has something to do with the HB sli bridge. I'm using Nvidia's HB sli bridge and ya must be the bridge.

I'm running two FTW3's in SLI and I don't notice any micro stutter. With the games that I play that support SLI, I have been getting really good scaling. I do notice that if I enable v-sync or lower some settings that GPU utilization does lower, and if I bump settings to max and disable V-sync, scaling goes back up to 90% and above. I'm also using an EVGA HB bridge-the one slot variant
