Galaxy Note 5

Snapdragon 820
4GB RAM
5.7" AMOLED display
3500mAh battery
Metal build like iPhone 6 and Galaxy line
Running stock Android M 5.2

Announced in October, on sale in November.

I'm unfamiliar with this company, do their phones come with an unlocked bootloader?

#1 it's a Nexus phone, so yes, absolutely totally unlocked phone.

#2 the company Huewai is HUGE in China, a major top brand there. They are trying to get into the U.S. with Google's help. And I'm return they will help Google expand in China.

Sounds like my next phone upgrade. Thanks for the info. Have prices been mentioned for this phone yet?

Not to be rude, but are you not familiar with the Nexus line from Google ? Which is on it's 6th generation now.

The Nexus phones are straight from Google, always released with the newest latest stock Android OS. They are the showcase phone from Google to show off the stock "vanilla" Android.

They get announced every year around October, and released in November.

Right now the current Nexus, is the Motorola Nexus 6, released last November. Still a very nice phone even today.

There are two new Nexus phones coming out this Fall. The cheaper budget version by LG, with a 5.2" screen and medium specs. That one might sell around $399. And the the high end Nexus by Huewai with a 5.7" AMOLED display, and top specs, will probably sell at flagship pricing, between $500 to $600.

why do people make decisions based on rumors/leaks?

Have no confidence LG will produce a decent Nexus since it'll compete with their own struggling LG branded flagship and ~5.2" is kind of useless. Looking forward to getting rid of 5.1" and moving back to 5.5"+.

Huawei has no presence in the US and no self cannibalization issue so hopefully they'll hit the first one out of the park otherwise they'll end up struggling along with the rest of the unrecognized mid tier players like Alcatel, ZTE, OnePlus, etc. behind Motorola.

No way i would buy a pos Chinese phone. I have a note 4 a s will probably get a note 5 at release. I refuse to support Chinese companies no matter how good or bad the product is.

What makes it a POS? Assumptions that it has to have Chinese government spyware? I'm not a fan of authoritarian regimes any more than you are, but I don't want to punish a company simply because of where it's headquartered... especially if it's a smaller outfit, like OnePlus. Judge a company by its practices, not by its address.

I'm not a fan of the Chinese govt or of any Chinese companies, period. My note afaik is partially assembled in china with parts sourced from different parts of the world. Samsung is Korean not a Chinese based company. I thought that part was pretty obvious.

With so many phone choices from so many other companies why would i support them? The Chinese govt thanks to our incompetent leaders here, sticks it to us on a regular basis and i should support one of their corporation's trying to make inroads in the u.s.? Not happening.

Still on a Note 3 and 3000 mAh not replaceable battery and no micro SD slot would make the Note 5 a no go for me.

I'm on a Note 2 - only has a 3100 mAh battery. Works fine for me. I'll wait for reviews before busting out the pitchfork and torch.

The Note 2 is known as one of the top battery friendly Android phones ever. It is a beast for battery life, and the 720p screen helps a lot too. I highly doubt, in the real world, the Note 5 comes even close to your Note 2's stamina.

I've owned about 17 flagship smartphones over the past 5 to 6 years. And I one of those was the ATT Note 2, running custom ROM's + Kernels, and that Note 2 was AMAZING on battery life, just the best. Out of those 17 phones, I will list my top three for best battery;

#1 = Note 2 - got like 8h Screen On time
#2 = iPhone 6 Plus - got like 7h to 7.5h Screen On time
#3 = OnePlus One - Kit Kat version only was getting like 6.5h to 7h Screen On time ( But the Lollipop update and ROM's are far worse than Kit Kat on the OPO, major drop in battery life )

Every other high end smartphone I owned, was only getting crap battery life in the 4h to 5h Screen On time or less. To me a smartphone needs to get at least 5.5h Screen On time to even be useful.

Can't rely on battery size alone to determine battery life since Samsung is ever improving the efficiency of its SAMOLED display and if they're going ePoP single chip solution for SoC, DRAM, storage, etc. Those that knock the S6 battery life don't even own one otherwise they'll know that it gets about 6 hours screen-on-time which is plenty sufficient for a non-phablet. Best to wait for trustworthy reviews but Note 5 looks to be a nice big leap from Note II that I still use and is still better than a lot of current devices on the market.

You may be right but i still hope they opted for a bigger battery rather than just one that's ok. In other words i would rather the n5 be able to sport 6hours sot out of the box stock rather than having to rely on turning shit off and lowering brightness etc etc.

The S6 gets 6h Screen On time :p LOL that's funny. And then you woke up.

Two coworkers of mine have the Galaxy S6, and my cousin does too. All I hear from them is how poor the battery life is, and that they are married to a charger, and can never count on it lasting well into the night, that by dinner time the phone is in the read %

Reading XDA, the battery life thread on the Galaxy S6, seems like most say the S6 averages like 4h to 4.5h Screen On time, and maybe if you run it super tweaked and lean, with Greenify and Xposed modules like Amplify Battery, and nothing synced, screen brightness on low, you may get 5h.

This comment only makes sense if you only buy from American companies. You talk as if South Korea isn't competing with the US economy. So if you only buy Apple, Microsoft, or Motorola, I will have no beef with this.

Ya the thing is the S. Koreans did the same junk to the USA and the same with Japan, as years have progressed and their economies reached income parity with the USA things settled down. But make no mistake they played a lot of unfair games to get their economies where they were fast, and this successfully killed off a lot of American industries. The Chinese just seem worse because they are so much bigger and its happening now, people always think whats happening now is more important than what happened in the past. The other issue is that China is considered something of an adversary.

The south korean economy is competing with us to a very very small degree. They are no threat. Not economicaly and not militarily, they are in fact an ally.

China is not an ally in any sense of the word. They are an adversary. They have the economy and the military to soon challenge us and they steal shit from our govt and our corporations all the time. There is simply no way i would ever knowingly support them or one of their corporations. I don't only have to buy from us companies to support my feelings about China and their garbage copycat shit. I hate Chinese shit pure and simple. That's my feelingon the matter. You are free to support their garbage if you desire. That's your choice.

Hey Zorachus is our resident dreamer. Nothing wrong with that. I secretly think that whenever Z dreams up specs on a phone, that somewhere that phone is born and lives in the pocket of a Japanese business man. Not Chinese mind you, because I guess they're evil.

Ha thx :)

All your electronics are most likely manufactured in China, so you are supporting them too. But whatever makes you sleep better at night.

Not to mention that due to economic globalization, and how tightly the US and China's economies are tied, so hate away...

And then he talks about Chinese copying, on a Samsung thread...

I'm hoping the Note 5 is a complete flop so I'm forced to drop TouchWiz and get a Nexus. Though I do like having a device that pairs aesthetically with my Tab S.

To some degree i don't have a choice but when i can avoid it i do. A lol huaei or wtfevwr it's called phone i can avoid. There's only what 15 other choices? I need them?

I'm running completely stock. And I sincerely doubt I get 8h screen on time, but I could be wrong. Can't help that the battery's 3 years old.

Anyway - if they did it once with a 3100 mAh battery, they can do it again with a 3000 mAh battery. If they do, awesome. If they don't, then I'll factor that into my decision - maybe go with the upcoming iPhone if I can stomach the thought of iTunes.

I didn't say there's anything wrong with it. I just like calling him out on it as much as he likes making up imaginary phones. ;)

Ahh, another instance of Zorachus making up specs on future phones. :p

Snapdragon 820 isn't going to be in anything this year.

I highly doubt I am that far off. When the Huawei Nexus was first rumored, all the sites were saying it would get the next gen Snapdragon cpu after the 810, and most speculated that would be the 820. But now the news is that the 820 isn't due until 2016, then I am at a loss to what processor the Huawei Nexus will use. I wouldn't think the 810, with all the bad press.

Everything else, the rumors say, I bet will be true;

5.7" AMOLED display
4GB RAM
3300mAh to 3500mAh battery
Android M 5.2
Metal build
Fingerprint scanner

MediaTek X20??? LOL...

I hope people realize I'm being sarcastic. The X20 is coming Q1 as well with CDMA radios. So MediaTek is definitely invading America next year. (MediaTek is a Taiwan-based company in case someone wants to hate.)

I'm still with my Note 2 just for that reason, battery. Rest of specs are still adequate for me

So the Galaxy Note 5 is official (as is the Galaxy S6 Edge+).

It's pretty much what you'd expect: a Galaxy S6 with a big screen and advances in pen support over last year.

Not that this is strictly a problem; I'm most interested in seeing how the extra RAM works, and how well screen-off drawing works in practice. The non-removable battery and lack of microSD probably isn't going to help, though, since I know some were holding out hope that Samsung would keep those around for the bigger models.

Compared to the upgrades the Note 4 brought to the GS5, the Note 5 looks super boring this year...

The only thing I could get excited about is Samsung Pay (which is in the GS6 as well). That's frigging witchcraft!

Yeah, if there's anything that will hurt Samsung at first glance, it's the relative conservatism. It's a big break from the Note 4, but only a mild change from the S6.

Samsung gets it with people desiring a large display but not a large physical phone. Too bad there's one dumb company out there that doesn't.

In for a silver titanium Note 5 64GB. Instant note taking and 2 hr fast wireless charging will be nice.

The numbers show that Samsung is doing worse this year than the last. So how's that working out for Samsung? Samsung is trying hard to get all the orders for Apple's A9 chips in order to make up for the losses. Samsung sure gets it alright. BTW, Samsung is also rumored to be providing the amoled displays for Huawei Nexus. Samsung sure gets that too. Samsung just isn't going to make money on their own phones by copying Apple and others. Might as well just make money by focusing on being a smartphone component manufacturer.

latest financial report for Samsung reports something like uh $2B profit from Mobile while $3.5B from semiconductor
Samsung is also investing like $3b into amoled this yr and already begun constructing $17B plant for semiconductor division in S.Korea...so i guess we know where Samsung is heading

I don't have a dog in this fight, but its worth pointing out that HTC's cratering stock price, LG's low profits and Lenovo's upcoming 3,200 job cuts indicates that none of the major Android phone manufacturers are doing so hot this year compared to last.
