I was surprised to not see a thread dedicated to this (upcoming) device. So far the only consistent specs I've seen are the Samsung Exynos 7422 as its SoC, rather than a Snapdragon, 4GB of LPDDR4, and a 4,100 mAh battery.

Exynos 7422 is reported to be all-in-one solution that combines cpu/gpu/ram/storage/modem in single chip, does this have any effect on energy efficiency? and so far everything points to no microsd slot/ sealed battery
I guess you can't have microsd while you have ufs 2.0 and hopefully Samsung is smart enough to go with 64gb as base storage and offer 128gb as optional upgrade..

The big rumor is the 4k screen right now. The rest would be typical spec bumps and mostly boring stuff; marginal software goodies and a vague idea that they won't move to a sealed design on their "work" phone.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but only ATT's GS6 didn't have an extra Qualcomm modem. Verizon, Sprint, TMo needed qualcomm's modem for their bands. So I'm going to guess that it'll be more of the same with the Note 5.

I have been checking pretty often for both a thread here and what the rest of the net is finding out about the Note 5 and it really looks like there isn't the same anticipation that the other notes had. And there just doesn't seem to be a lot of good leaks out there anyway. I will probably run my note 2 until it dies, but I'm always interested in what the new model of Note brings. I use my stylus a lot, but it seems like most people don't and there are plenty of "phablets" (I really hate that word) out there with large screens and powerful hardware so the Note series went from being the only thing in that size range to just one of many.

I'm mainly interested in the Note 5 because of the S6. It's screen, camera, fingerprint scanner and performance were all awesome but the erratic battery life was a turn off. The Note 5 should have everything the S6 had, but in a phablet form factor, a stylus, and a much bigger battery.

I know many have said this but, after experiencing the Galaxy S6's newly optimized touch-wiz, I'm definitely not interested in another Samsung Galaxy phone. DONE.

For years now ignorant people have been saying oh nothing changes in phones they just get a little faster. Personally as stated I consider them ignorant because a lot has been changing. Phones have gone from mediocre resolution to the point where human eyes cannot discern pixels. IR emitters have been added to control your entertainment centers, finger print readers have made logging in securely more accessible and fast. The stylus has been reintroduced. Displays have also become stellar in quality. Cameras have also come to the point where they have pretty much removed any need for a point and shoot camera and are starting to flirt damaging SLR sales.

But now with the galaxy note 4 we might really be at that point where all they can do is make it faster. Faster is great and all but it doesn't drive people to need your device. For instance I owned a galaxy note 3 and needed or wanted really badly to get a finger print reader. But the galaxy note 5 what drives me?

What is worse is the rumors are that we will probably lose functionality. If the note 5 goes with a sealed battery it’s a promise I won’t be buying it. Same for loss of microSD expansion. Even makes me wonder what other features like IR emitter they might take out. Personally I think of the note series as sort of like how many people want a desktop or desktop replacement laptop. These people want the best and are willing to pay for it and they also want options and flexibility. They are typically more savvy users. If Samsung goes backwards on this they are going to screw over this customer base and they won’t have any problem jumping to another company.

If you look at my previous posts you will see I have been all for increased resolution. But at 2560x1440 at 518 ppi I think phones have finally come to the point where I can say this is good enough. More pixels beyond this shrug, ok well unless it comes with some other advantage like contrast, color accuracy, outdoor brightness etc... And it has to be a pretty big bump on those not just a little better.

There are other things that could impress other people but might not be that interesting to me. Like if the note 5 would have some great accessories like a dock and a decent mouse and keyboard interface. Or maybe even something like the laptop dock like the old Motorola atrix lapdock but better. I still don't get why people don't make docks where the phone just plugs right in where the track pad would be and then becomes a dynamic trackpad that has the buttons and everything mapped out. I think the next big revolution in mobile is this. But I have no reason to believe Samsung will lead that charge with the note 5 as cool as it could be. Even if they did it would probably be some nonstandard overpriced contraption where it’s cheaper to buy a whole ultra-book than just the dock.

I've had the Note 2, 3 and 4. There have been good improvements with each iteration.

Two promises from Samsung for my Note 4 failed to be delivered in a sufficiently timely manner. Android 5 lolipop and gear vr. I expected gear vr and android 5 around christmas. Now I see bestbuy fawning over an s6 version of gear vr and still can't buy one for my Note 4. I don't feel like going through hoops to get this thing aND iTS too late in my devict uparade cycle to justify the purchase.

My Note 4 is still running Android 5.0.2... has been since initial release... It takes too long to get OS updates... There is a security flaw related to the keyoard with no way to know if it's been majically patched. Samsung has capitolized on their pre installed push service to try to sell me an S6 multiple times before I disabled this invasive service. That really pissed me off...

Rumours of a non-removable battery and no more micro SD slot and a possible glass back aren't impressing me...

Major marketing hype and failure to deliver seem to define Samsung and I'm probably going to try something else this year even though overall, I still really like my NOTE 4. I'll be keeping up with the release to see if they can change my mind.

I just upgraded from Note 3 to Note 4 last month. With my current upgrade schedule, it looks like I may just skip Note 5 and wait for Note 6 at the end of next year.

But they better keep the removable battery and SD card slot in the next Note models, or I may be looking to jump ship from Samsung to another brand next year. Removing those features would not be acceptable at all.

If they want to do something to knock our socks off and leapfrog all the competition, come up with double the battery life.

If it has a removable back you can always drop in a bigger battery giving much more than double the life.

I've owned the Note 2 and now a 4 and they are far and away the best phones I've ever used. I plan on buying nothing but Notes with each upgrade but if they drop SD card support I'm done and will move on. The SD card is the best feature. I've got the one I've been using for several years and like being able to simply drop in my old card in my new phone and there's all my pictures and songs, pictures and videos I've been collecting the last few years. The SD card is a deal breaker for me. I'll even go with a slower phone with SD over a top of the line phone without.

What about battery size ? I heard rumors of 4,000mAh but never believed Samsung would have the balls to be that smart. So I'm assuming it's just like 3,200mAh or something just average for a big phone like this ?

4,000 mAh....if that turns out to be true
we can expect something like this

We won't see that kind of battery performance on any of Qualcomm's current products. They really need a die shrink.

They need to do something. I've got the upgrade bug something serious right now. I don't know why, this S5 is chugging along great still.
I could get a note 4 but I'd have to trade my S5 and $200 cash to get a new Verizon note 4 and I don't know if it's even worth it

Sealed battery is a no go for me. My note 2 needed a new battery after one year (physically would no longer work). I buy my phones outright no way in hell I would pay probably in excess of $100 to have my phone battery replaced it's retarded. Having a $700 brick because of a bad battery no thanks.

attery size ? I recall rumors if a 4100mAh sized battery for the Note 5, but highly doubt that'll happen, Samsung wouldn't have the balls to put in a beastly sized battery like that. They need to copy Apple and the stupid anorexic wafer thin profile.

I bet this just has an average 3200mAh battery, and this phone will get good battery life, but nothing like the old Motorola MAXX's used too.

The latest Note 5 specs leak. According to GSMarena, this is from a very reliable source:

http://m.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note_5_specs_leaked_no_microsd-news-13349.php

To summarize:
- same processor as the S6
- 4gb ram
- 32gb internal storage
- 16mp rear/5mp front cameras (not sure of the sensor)
- 5.66" screen
- No word on battery size
- NO MICRO SD CARD SUPPORT

In a nutshell, I won't downgrade from my LG G4 to this, if all this is true. Hopefully, Samsung will wow us with changes to this on the unveiling, which is to occur on AUGUST 13th (along with the S6 Edge Plus).

Only way I can consider the Note 5;

- Bring back the awesome beastly battery life the Note line used to be known for like the Note 2 at the time. That means the Note 5 needs at least a 3600mAh sized, battery, would love to see them go 3900mAh.

- Allow rooting and unlocked bootloader as easy and simple as HTC allows and makes it.

- Tone down Touchwiz even more. Allow stock Samsung and Google apps to be permanently deleted if wanted and removed from the phone by the user.

Don't forget how long it's been taking lately to get a root and boot loader released. If I remember correctly, it took almost a year on the note 4 and gs5.

Got around to trying the Debloater tool on an unrooted S6. Although you can disable bloat via the application manager but there are some things that don't have the disable option.
With the Debloater tool you can disable pretty much everything else. Successfully disabled VR stuff, Samsung TTS, etc. without the disable option. This is preferred over deletion anyway since it doesn't affect OTA updates and is less risky since it doesn't require a full reimage if something goes wrong especially on a new device where a full firmware image might not be immediately available.

Total BS. Let's ask the people on that thread if they prefer disabling or outright removing if you don't need root.

Hopefully, the updates Samsung is making for China will come to the US for the complete removal of bloat, and save storage space especially when there is no microSD.

Here is the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 in Hand

In terms of specs, we are being told that the phone has 4GB RAM, the same processor as the S6, no SD slot, 32/64/128GB storage options, and a 3000mAh non-removable battery.

This phone was just sort of on my radar before, was waiting to see if the rumored 4,100mAh battery were true or not. And LOL of course not, instead they are going with the super model wafer ultra thin phone design, and only sticking in a small 3,000mAh battery

The Note series used to be known for beastly battery life. The Note 2 at the time had one of the largest batteries available back then, and that phone got insane battery life. My Note 2 was giving me 7h to 8h Screen On time

But do the quick math on this rumored Note 5, running very similar hardware to the S6, with a slightly larger 3,000mAh battery, than the S6's. I view the S6 has shitty battery life, I don;t care what people say, I think the best it gets is like 4h to 4.5h on the best tweaked setup, most say worse than that.

IMO 3,000mAh battery in a phablet with a 2k screen is useless, if your a power user, or like your phone to last from 6:00am to 10:00pm with heavy nonstop workday use. The old Note 2 could do that easily, I highly doubt this Note 5 can.

Not looking good they turned the S6 edge around backwards lol.

I think its funny how it seems no company can just keep up doing a good thing. They always got to screw with stuff. All Samsung had to do was keep producing the phones that put them in the front of android dominance. This also seems to suggest that Samsung is pretty set in their path, once they make an S series they are already designing the note series and don't have the ability to change direction. The only other explanation I can think of is that is actually satisfied with S6 sales despite what they say.

I like the very thin nearly bezel less look however only a 3000 mah battery (if true) is disappointing. When will manufacturers realize that most consumers will gladly trade some of the thinness for a bigger battery?
