Galaxy Note 4

Is their a reason why bestbuy is doing in store only for Verizon Note 4s?
 
Picked up my note 4 tofay. This thing is huge, but it's not unbearable. The pen is really interesting and works great , just don't know how often I'd use it. Can't wait to install cm11 or 12 on this

Depending on what carrier you are on, you may never be able to. Thank your carrier's choice of bootloader locking and Samsung for the fucking Knox BS.

what ever you right on the note you can pin to your home screen. and then reopen it up and add delete etc.

I'm really hoping Samsung releases an unlocked Note 4 Developer Edition like they did with the Note 3. No word on it though. I only learned about Note 3 'DE' after purchasing my Verizon locked Note 3. I won't do that again...lol. I'll wait for the Note 4 DE and if they don't release it I'm gonna jump over to the Nexus 6 this time. I'm tired of carriers locking down my own property. :mad:

this is huge upgrade coming from note 2
screen is fucking gorgeous and pen actually fucking work like real pen
i haven't noticed lag after disabling most of google/samsung/at&t pre-installed app
new multi window works like charm and camera is so far great except in low-light (figures)

RATZ!!!

I am hoping that ONE DAY, I will be able to yank out a stylus without having to do anything besides start writing. And when I'm done writing? Just throw the stylus back in the holder and the phone auto-saves the note. Now how awesome would THAT be?? The ULTIMATE note taking device.

With Note Buddy and CM-Sen Addon, you can make the SPen removal trigger the app launching event of your choice. Which if your pen app allows direct writing, then yes. With root perms and a wakelock (IIRC), Note Buddy can override the screen lock as well. I believe Note Buddy also permits reattach of the stylus to relock the screen, but I haven't played with that much.

I have the Tmobile version so I hope it gets it. I'll probably be switching to a nexus next month, especially if I'm stuck in touchwiz hell with the note 4.

On a side note, the Google now launcher is available in the play store which is a huge improvement over stock touchwiz
 
You can pull the pen out, the screen wakes up, press the button on the s pen while double tapping and boom, action memo pops up. Pretty darn close to what you are asking for out of the box.

I love my Note 3. Can't wait to get my Note 4 when it comes in.
 
Action menu pops up when the pen is removed anyways, select memo and start writing, hell you don't even have to hit save, next time you bring up memo the previous writing will be there.
 
Got my Note 4... nice screen, nice camera.... ugh, Touchwiz... considering how powerful this phone is, there is no excuse for the app panel to stutter when opening and closing it, or going from one desktop panel to another. I disabled S-Voice which has improved the lag associated with going home and pushing the button, but it's still less than instant. Bottom line is that the Nexus 5 with stock android is more fluid and smooth than the Note 4 with Touchwiz.

I have read from other users that the exynos variant of the Note 4 handles touchwiz much more smoothly than the snapdragon version with no noticeable lag or stutter.

Friend of mine just came from a Nexus 5 to a Note 4 and said "the jank is real" until he tried enabling ART runtime, then that basically fixed all lag he was seeing on the phone.

I can't wait for Xposed to support ART now.
 
Doesn't that only work with Nexus devices? I don't even see an ART option on my Tab S.

EDIT: I mean, I can enable the developer options but don't see any run-time options in the menu.

No, anything running Android 4.4.x has the option of running ART in the dev options. It may be in another sub-menu in your dev options, as I think that's where it's at on my One M8 as well. The only thing that keeps me from running it is there's still a lot of apps that aren't compatible with it and Xposed is a crucial one for me.

it works on my note 4 and it's under developer options just like in the article i linked to
so it must be tab s thing

The dev of Xposed is waiting for a final Android L build and therefore final ART runtime to work from before even trying making Xposed work in ART. As late as last month Android was very much root-canaling how ART was working.

Xposed should be working in ART soon.

Lots of apps in the mean time have gotten their act together to work with ART. InSSIDer being on of the big ones that was ART able a little bit ago.
 
So i moved to ART. But every time i reboot my pbone it says upgrading android.

Why is it doing that?

Yes, thanks for the clarificatory questions / answers.

On my S4 with a UHS-I enabled microSD, I could transfer only about 10MB/s worth of data to the microSD inside the phone with the USB2 cable, but with a dedicated card reader the transfer rate could go as high as 80-90MB/s.

Drawback is I'd have to pop the card out every time. With a case and frequent file transfers, this isn't exactly ideal. Especially if you copy several GB worth of media often.

Not bad for USB2 on the Note 3 I guess. I think it's safe to assume that the Note4 won't take a step back in this department. Too bad nobody is really testing these things in reviews.

Support for 128GB cards is irrelevant when you are doing 10MB/s max transfers on a USB cable IMO.
 
I highly doubt that any devices will receive L until after the Nexus 6 is released.

The ONLY possible way it would happen is if it's Motorola. There were times in the past year that the X and G received updates before some Nexus devices.

It'll be unlocked, so you can use it on AT&T too and it'll support most, if not all bands on AT&T.
 
for those who have it, whats your average SOT?

Browsing XDA seems like most people (depending on exynos/qc chip) are getting between 4.5-6hrs of SOT, with no root or debloat. does that seem right?

That seems really low, TBH. Then again I don't have a Note 4.

My L900 Note 2 can still do 10 hours SOT of simple forum or web browsing (one sitting down to near full battery drain)
 
Just got my note 4 today .

So many little tweaks everywhere and I love the hardware. The camera upgrades are significant. So far I an pretty darn happy with my upgrade from my note 3 but the note 3 stands as a truly great device. The display is nicer on the note 4 but the difference doesn't seem nearly as dramatic as the difference between the note 2 and 3.

Anyhow, I hope everyone enjoys their device.
 
Note 4 is a bad buy. Apple is forcing devs to make only 64bit apps, and the fact that majorty of android apps are ios ports means that future apps are incompatible. Unless Google somehow converts developers to let Android eat first, which is high unlikrly.
