Hey guys, lately I've been seeing a lot of cool free games available for download. I was hoping we could make a thread with all the free games and possibly if enough people contribute make it a sticky. I'll periodically upadate this first post with all of the games posted in the tread. Sound like a good idea? I'll start it off with a few:

    1up's 101+ Best Free Games for 2007

    http://www.1up.com/do/feature?pager....&cId=315 6339

    Action/Adventure:

Grand Theft Auto - The original top down GTA game
    http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/gta.html

Grand Theft Auto 2 - The sequel to the original, top down
    http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/index.html

Wild Metal - 3d vehicular combat game
    http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/wmc.html

No Action Jackson - Lucas Arts style point and click adventure, pretty funny
    http://www.acid-play.com/download/no-action-jackson/

Mexican Motor Mafia - only a demo, but really fun, classic GTA top down all car shooting action
    http://www.scienceoftomorrow.com/mmm_main.htm

Rumble Box - Cool cell shaded box bashing action
    http://phackett.com/rumblebox/

Gunz the Duel - Really cool thrid person shooter you can use gunz or a sword and you can run on walls.
    http://www.gunzonline.com/

Halo Zero - Halo Zero is a 2D fan game, based on a story before Halo 1, with the Reach battle.
    http://www.halozero.new.fr/

Madness Interactive - Fight and shoot people, fun stuff
    http://www.flecko.net/games.html

N - Cool ninja platform game
    http://www.harveycartel.org/metanet/downloads.html

Cave Story - A platformer/adventure game that easily stands up to the likes of Mario, Metroid, or Castlevania titles of the NES and SNES days. Awesome story and music too.
    http://agtp.romhack.net/doukutsu.html

Stair Dismount - A free small 3d game in which you push a model (rag-doll style) down a flight of stairs. The more you hurt the guy, the more points you get.
    http://jet.ro/dismount/

Truck Dismount - Like stair dismount, you have to hurt the guy as much as possible to accumulate the most points, except in this one the model is flung from a moving truck into a wall.
    http://jet.ro/dismount/

    Classics:

Plasma Pong - New take on pong with crazy physics
    http://www.plasmapong.com/

    http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=5054

    Puzzle:

TetriNET - online based competitive tetris with many different game modes.... addictive as hell
    http://www.tetrinet.org/

TetriNET 2 - Major changes include the fact that all users now play on one master server, and the removal of the much hated piece delay. TetriNET2 is also less buggy and runs more smoothly then its predecessor.
    http://www.tetrinet2.com/

    Racing

TrackmaniaNations - An awesome free racing game with great graphics, I love this one **has starforce protection, for those who are wary about this.

    http://www.thangorodrim.net/

The Elder Scrolls: Arena - "A first-person role-playing game, in which you must rescue the Emperor from his dimensional prison by recovering the eight pieces of the Staff of Chaos."
    http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/downloads_games.htm

Anarchy Online - This is a free (no fees) version of the original MMORPG Anarchy Online
    http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=6213

    http://www.abandonia.com/games/181/download/PrincessMaker2.htm

Shadowbane - Free as of today! (*Note* Players with lapsed accounts should be able to simply log on again, while new players can download the previously available 15-day trial full version of the game and simply play it as long as they wish. - GameSpot.com)

    RTS:

Ground Control - Frenetically paced real-time action strategy game of war, secrets, and distant worlds.

    http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=8155

    Shooter:

Grid Wars - Akin to the popular x360 game geometry wars but free!
    http://www.incitti.com/Blitz/

Cherry Blossom - Free japanese shooter
    http://www16.big.or.jp/~zun/html/game.html

Imperishable Night - Another free japanese shooter from the same place as Cherry Blossom
    http://www16.big.or.jp/~zun/html/game.html

Endless Fire - A vertically scrolling shmup with a twist: there are no levels and the enemies spawn randomly. When you die, the program takes note of what attack killed you, and starts to use that attack more frequently. It's opengl, so turn your settings all the way down for some crazy speed.
    http://www.codespace.co.uk/

Mono - An asteroids-esque game where instead of asteroids you're shooting giant blobs of color (red, green and blue). When a blob bursts it colors the background. The goal is to turn the background completely white by layering the colors.
    http://www.binaryzoo.com/games/mono/index.htm

PARSEC47 - Another cool free japanese shooter "Defeat retro enemies modenly."
    http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~cs8k-cyu/windows/p47_e.html

rRootage - Guess what, another free japanese shooter "Defeat autocreated huge battleships. Shootem up game, 'rRootage'."
    http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~cs8k-cyu/windows/rr_e.html

    Simulators

Freespace 2 - One of the best space sims ever, with a solid single-player campaign and a huge amount of fan-created content. Due to a rather odd licensing agreement and a defunct publisher, it's also freely available
    http://scp.indiegames.us/e107_plugins/custompages/scpinstallation.php

FlightGear - Free open source, multi-platform flight simulator. I wouldn't go replacing MS FS 2004 with it, but it's great for the price
    http://www.flightgear.org/

    Turn Based Strategy

MegaMek - It's a remake of the old battletech boardgame. It's definately more fun with multiple people on a LAN. It's the perfect workplace game.
    http://megamek.sourceforge.net/idx.php?pg=main

Best RPG I have ever played, and it is free.
It may not have Diablo or WOW graphics, but the depth and replayability pwns both any day.

Caution: L33T RPG fans only.... not for beginner RPGers

    N, an awesome freeware platformer.

Be sure to watch some of the online high-score replays (accessible from within the game) ;).

I reccomend Perfect Cherry Blossom and Imperishable night. Don't bother translating the page it usually will display wrong and hard to scroll around looking for download links. Here's the direct links incase you don't want to search:

    Cherry Blossom:
    http://www16.big.or.jp/~zun/data/soft/youmu_tr011.lzh

    Imperishable Night:
    http://mirror0.fuzzy2.com/zun/eiya_tr003.lzh (I think, been a while since I DL'd this one)

most archive programs can open these files.

    Very nice

Silkroad is cool too but too much overcrowding. They need new servers or ones with A TON more capacity. Annoying at times.

    Blitz 1941.

runs on anything. really. onboard will do. im on a 6600 and plan on upgrading yet this is still one of my staple games

its a tank MMO(RPG?). nice semi-skill needed aiming system. you get experiance per kill, causing you to level. with each new level new tanks and parts are unlocked. sorta Warcraft 3 gfx with almost a flash animation 3d rendered building style. high speed internet not really required. it takes a chunk, but not all of your bandwith.

also companys/guilds are there. so some stratigy involved when you get to the higher levels. VERY few people playing. id say mabey 600. hoping this will boost it a little.

baised in korea? anywho they pull an engRish on you once in a while.

the game IS better then the screen shots lead you to believe.

    try it out!

It appears to be dead, though you can get the source files from other sources. For a limited time only, hosted on my school computer:
    Sources
    FreeBSD package
    Windows build

The windows build is compiled with MinGW and should theoretically not require anything else.
(As a side effect I now know how MinGW works. Interesting.)
