A great fantasy themed turn based strategy game. This has a lot of similarities to Fire Emblem for the GBA. It has several single player campaigns, great multiplayer support (hotseat, LAN, and online play,) and a full map editor. There are six different races to play, each with different weaknesses and abilities. The graphics are very well done with decent hand-drawn characters to narrate the storyline. The sound effects are not as well done, but it does have a fairly good original music (although it does get repetitive and tiring quickly.)
The game can play in a window and due to it's turn-based nature it makes an excellent workplace game.

Beneath A Steel Sky - A classic point and click type adventure game that completly rocks! :cool:

It was once a retail game, but has turned freeware.

You need to download ScummVM and the BASS files, all found here.
 
This is quite possibly one of the best free games, It's pretty new as well.

You must download Enemy Territory (completely legally FREE.. the link is on the site above)

Then you download the mod for Enemy Territory and install it... wala, 2 free games.

The game is kind of like Counter-Strike using the Enemy Territory engine. 2 teams, one is terrorist and plants the bomb.

Worth a try, pretty fun gameplay but there isn't a whole lot of servers up.
 
Fantastic thread thanks a bunch. I can't believe that GTA2 is on here. Love that game. Some other cool titles as well.

I also enjoyed this thread before it lost the sticky. Since then I hardly use it anymore, but I guess that is the [H] mods feel is best.....

Really fun game, I've been playing for a couple weeks and have gotten hooked. Definitely give it a try. Don't let the kiddie description fool you.
 
Wow, I'm surprised Second Life isn't on here...although some don't call it a game, but a "social experiment". Regardless, its free unless you want to own land, in which case you need a pay account.

This thread used to be stickied when it was first started and recieved a lot of views, but after a while it was unstickied as less and less free games were being posted/reported. Maybe it'll it make a comeback and get stickied for a second time.

Damn that is cool-looking, thanks for that one there cgrant DL'ing now as I type this. Does seem more complicated to have it install like that but the steps are very easy to understand so its all good. I been playing around with that NASA worldwind program that is like google earth here recently so this is a good companion to it lol.

wow, if anyone here even remotely enjoyed wing commander or x-wing/tie fighter games, Freespace2 is an absolute MUST HAVE. Best space sim ever, period. The graphics still look decent, even. Ended on a permanent cliffhanger due to weird publishing rights preventing a sequel from ever being produced :p But, it's pretty cool in that it's one of the only games I've ever played not to have a happy ending.
 
Wow, last thing I remember I was reading this thread yesterday afternoon and saw Gamebiz 2 mentioned. Next thing I know it's 3am and I had just found the coolest free game ever. Thanks for the heads up whoever mentioned it.
