I'm 33 so this is OOOOLD School!

But back in 1981 Atari had an Raiders of the lost arc game you had to get the staff and the thing on top so you could see where on the map the arc was and stuff like that. I was addicted to that game no save  so you had to keep restarting, took me days to finish, I actually snuck downstairs and played thru the night to finish.

....those were the days :)

I had that game. Can still hear the death sound -- chick-chick-chick-chick-cha ... pop.

Another fun game for the 2600 was Riddle of the Sphinx. Adventure game that was linear as could be, but incredibly fun for the time. I probably beat that game 30 times or more.

Its not as old, being an NES game, but Final Fantasy takes the prize as best old-school game, IMO.

StarFox for SNES.

Let's hear it for Pitfall. Or maybe Venture. (Colecovision version, of course.)

Wait. Remember Time Pilot?

Or maybe Vanguard. I really liked Vanguard. No one ever remembers it.

For old school PC gaming, I've been playing the original X-Wing on a 6' projection screen for awhile now. It still looks great, if I had a digicam I'd post pics... the old school bare polygons have such a classic look to them.

Gradius 3 is my fav. but lately i've been playing sunset riders a lot. mame online with friends is the best!

Same for me... Was the first RPG game who got me hooked on the RPG games :)

It really depends on what "era" of gaming you're talking about, so I'll list my favs from all my systems.

Atari 2600 Pac-Man
Atari 7800 Moon Patrol
NES Final Fantasy
Game Boy Tetris
Atari Lynx All Points Bulliten
SNES Final Fantasy 3/Chrono Trigger (tough call)
N64 Wave Race
My First Computer Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight

Best game of all time is Final Fantasy hands down.

Joust & Dig Dug on the Atari 400.
Adventure on the Atari 2600.
Pools of Radiance on my first PC.

2 more that get honorable mention:

Bezerker and Dragster......Bangin thru the gears on the old 2600 joystick =sweeeeet :)

By the way....anyone know how I can play Atari 2600 on my pc? any good emulators?

Yeah...that one was sweet too! I forgot about that one

I always liked the old school text adventure games like Colossal Cave, Adventure! (VIC-20)and especially Zork (C-64).

Chopper Command (Well, at least until I hit something like 999,999 points and the game removed my spare lives and quit) and River Raid were my addictions.

Final Fantasy 3

Now if we have to go back further, well there was Space Quest
Even further you say ... hmmm ... Spyhunter was a cool game.

Some of my fav VIC20 games were:

Cosmic cruncher
Gorf
Q*bert
Crossfire

haha memories man, your bringing them back! I tell you those atari 2600 games were SO DAMN FRUSTRATING!! The simple ones were.. well.. simple, you knew how to play pacman or whatever, but games like this one and E.T. and some others were just hard I couldn't figure some of it out.. not like there was any walkthroughs on the net back then either :p

Beserk kicked ass for atari 2600 (or did I have the 5200 hmm)

Ok so oldest school game that I loved was called "Reactor" it was an arcade game but I think atari made a console port of it.. that is my favorite old school game.

Fav game for the pc that should be considered old school is dungeon keeper (and the second one) great games that still pack a gaming punch (with pretty decent graphics even by today's standards).

I forgot to mention possibly the greatest multiplayer game of all time ... Warlords for the Atari 2600

Oh, how I wish someone would make a flash multiplayer version of this

Reactor was classic, especially the audio production. Very abstract game, but then most Atari games were.

My favs would be Commander Keen, Duke Nukem 1&2, and the Space Quest series.

Nintendo: Contra, Super Dodge Ball
Arcade: Simpsons Arcade Game

A few games,

Zac McCracken(SP?) and the Alien Mind Benders <- If I could ever find the game pack with that and indiana jones, loom(SP?), Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion I would pick it up in a second. I think the game pack was by Lucas Arts. Those were my first PC games.

NES -- Super Dodge Ball
Genesis -- Mutant League Football
Computer -- Quest For Glory Series

I would have to say Clay Fighters, Streets of Rage, Sonic, Shinobi, Vectorman, Ninja Gaiden and Super Mario 3.

i was playing mario on my xbox with my girlfriend last night and it was a blast, mario would have to be up there

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the arcade, that thing sucked up my quarters when I was a 5 year old in the Dream Machine arcade.

zelda.

That was the best game ever for me.

I still have fond memories of mispent youth playing that game. I was bad at it, which actually helped me enjoy it even more.

*scurries off to fire up the emulator*

Oh..and ff3 ( ff6 in japan ). Best game. EVER.
