Fallout 76

sentry bots...
Aim for their fusion core, they'll go down in one hit. VATS and the perk card that lets you target your shots (concentrated fire) are your friends.

As far as meta weapons go, sneak commando with a fixer or handmade has been a long time popular option that is very powerful when your build is completed, especially bloodied builds. Others already mentioned the mighty Quad Railway, also tons of fun (but has an upcoming potential nerf). If you prefer melee, chainsaws and autoaxes with the "+40% Power attack" 2nd star are OP as hell because every hit is a power attack with them. Holy Fire, which is a heavy flamer from an event, is also pretty popular and strong, but I've never used mine, so idk.

Other tips are headshots/weak areas, and building/buffing for VATS Criticals are how people generally put out the big damage, especially when amplified by a low health build. Full health can still be plenty strong though. Just focus on one weapon type, build around it, and swap the quality of life cards (e.g. crafting and lockpicking etc) out when your not using them for something that will boost damage/toughness. Angry Turtle and MrWestTek on youtube are also a wealth of good info on playing Fallout.

Most of all, just have fun with the game and enjoy the challenges. Soon enough you will be melting everything on sight and wishing they'd add some tougher enemies lol.

What sort of weapons are most people using with the current meta for the game? I was mostly using a bolt-action .308 rifle from level 5 all the way until I hit 50'ish. It eventually stopped hurting normal mutants and scorched enough to justify keeping around. That's even outfitted with all the bells and whistles + legendary armor penetration. Subsequent ones that are much higher in level seem no better, too.

I haven't really ever found anything else that works consistently. Even with an arsenal of multi-star guns with lots of upgrades + a stack of card boosts. At this point I swap between 3-4 guns depending on however much ammo I happen to have. The .308 light machineguns seem to be powerful, but they also go through 1000 rounds in like 30 seconds. My Whacker Smacker (that I got by accident when passing through a public event) seems to be way stronger than any normal gun I can find. It also repairs with super common materials. Is there a meta for guns that I've overlooked or is melee just extra strong right now?

i've been running around with tesla rifles since like level 30 or so using the cards that up non-automatic guns and electric weapon damage. I just wish I could pull a good legandary one with the quad ammo.

Jeez. The patch they rolled out yesterday has been quite the mess. It makes the map always open to the upper right, it removes all of your quest map markers, and it makes all of the team/player locations hidden, too. It doesn't matter much if you're just grinding events, but I imagine the people doing story missions must be lost.

I struggled through no quest markers to play through the new Skyline Valley area. What a disappointment. After the BOS, Overseer inoculation quest, Pitt, and Atlantic City, I had high hopes. Yet it's mostly empty and the core questline is pretty short. It's something like 7-8 missions, and most of them a very basic fetch quests. Maybe there's some other stuff hidden down there (I haven't been to the two lowest landmarks), but color me unimpressed.

I think I've pretty much completed all of the core content now. At least minus some long-term grindy stuff like the Pioneer Scouts.

I've pretty much given up on plot-based quests and am just doing daily stuff + the occasional nuke run. The good thing about the dailies is that they warp you right where you need to go, no caps even needed. With nukes, there are only 4-5 places people nuke and the game tells you what region it's about to hit. That's usually good enough, although I encountered a new one where someone bombed the Nuka Cola World Tour rollercoaster and unlocked a hidden boss.

Hopefully they fix this soon. The fact that it's been a week like this isn't very good. I bet the huge influx of players from the show = over and they've stopped caring as much.

maybe I should get with you some time so Ican complete the nuke thing. I still need to nuke some mine to open it up and I can't solo the launch area.

Sure! I'd definitely wait until this whole "where do I go next" thing is fixed before even trying it. It's a long mission with lots of steps. I think the people who are still doing it have probably done it dozens if not hundreds of times. I've only done it twice, 6 years apart, and it took my ass forever both times. We're talking at least an hour and there's a lot of running from marker to marker.

Right now I mainly just hang out near the Whitespring and/or server hop until I see a daily mission or a nuke alert in the lower left of the map. With the nuke alert, it'll tell you what area is being nuked. If it's the cranberry bog, it's the Scorchqueen. If it's the savage divide, it's the mine mission you're talking about. Those are the only places people nuke like 90% of the time. The good thing is that you can warp right to those spots when someone nukes those spots. In the case of that mine, you actually have to enter the daily mission "A Colossal Problem" to join it. Be aware that mission pretty much requires at least 5 people. I tried with 3 players (2 were over level 200, I'm 109) and you just don't have enough time. You only have to kill single enemy, Earle, but he's probably the spongiest enemy in the whole damn game. He also spawns dozens of wendigos. If you're down there and you don't see at least 3-4 other players, you might as well just grab the holotape and then bail. You can still complete the quest without killing him.

EDIT: Sorry, the Scorchqueen is in the cranberry bog, not the ash heap. The ash heap nuke is probably the nuka world roller coaster, which will spawn the ultracite demon. It's a neat fight if there are a ton of people, so I recommend hopping into that one if you see it. I can't imagine someone would trigger that one at random without knowing other people were gonna join in.

Supposedly we have an update inbound sometime today. Hopefully it doesn't break anything else!

EDIT: The update is live and the map issues seem to be fixed. I only had like 10 minutes to play around, but everything seems back to good on the surface.

No clue if it's related to this update, specific weapons I primarily use, a bug, etc. etc. but my mysterious stranger pretty much never shows up anymore. He used to roll up roughly every 5-10 shots fired in VATS. That's with a maxed out perk card. Now he only shows up every 25-30 shots instead. I'll go long stretches where I wonder if my card is even active. Plus (this has always been an issue) in some areas he doesn't actually show up in spite of being triggered.

I never used vats in this game, doesn't slow time so why bother? Forgot it was even there.

Critical hits + the mysterious stranger are the main reasons. Plus, I find myself just hitting the VATS button when walking around to spot enemies you might not ordinarily see.

Anyone here have a Sympto-Matic plan or one in their CAMP? That's the one piece of hardware I want and can seemingly never get. I get diseased all the damn time since I'm mostly a melee player.
I guess private teammates can build stuff for one another, or I'll toss like 15K caps your way for the plans.

I'm going to attempt to play this game again last time I got Nausea but they said if you change the FOV all the way over the slider and do some ini edits it should work out.
I enjoyed the game untill the Nausea set in bought the game dirt cheap Quake Con sale.

This is where i left off when I last logged out I turned off Depth of Field seems t have fixed motion sickness but I only played 3-4 minutes. This game is Amazing looking I don't care how deep it's suppose to be. Reason why I picked it up again the Quake Con price helped with that.

It's a vastly better game these days, but there are still a few visual settings you have to hand-edit. Especially if you want to enable Gsync and/or if you use a universal frame cap.

The entire Wayward sequence makes starting the game make a lot more sense. It also helps you level up a bit and get used to things like the camp system, building/repairing, etc. before throwing you to the wolves. When the game launched you were supposed to go to Flatwoods and the responders quests immediately...which isn't the most compelling thing in the world.

Welp, after putting a few months back into F76, I think I'm ready to move on again. I might pop back in here and there for the new seasons, but I've kinda run the gambit for things to do. I've done all the story missions, got an arsenal of 3-star weapons, got a huge camp with all the ameneties (including regenerating food/water + stat boosting items), and have done all the dailies like 50 times. I'm level 165 and it feels like the people that are level 1000 and such are doing the same stuff as me...they just have very specific "bloody" builds or zany rocket launchers. In those group events I can swear my melee is doing the same damage they're pulling, although it's obviously a bit more labor intensive.

For anyone just picking this up (or searching for this thread down the line), do NOT sleep on the Holy Fire. Especially with a couple upgrades and an "instigating" buff. I've never seen anything quite like it. Even though I stacked all the right cards and have (good) 3-star versions of other stronger weapons, nothing wrecks house like this thing. I'm doing the same kind of damage those people with the crazy gauss chainguns/shotguns and bloody builds are doing...but I have full health and my level is like 1/5 of theirs. It's pretty wild. Plus, the game considers it a heavy weapon so there are like a dozen cards that can boost it. I wish I went this route earlier. Had I known, I probably would have started collecting the right cards back when I was level 30.

So far the changes don't amount to all that much. New stuff for your camp (mine has been at capacity for a while) and you can now break down and better customize legendary weapons. The catch is that the new legendary system is a hell of a grind. You can pick and choose your modifiers, but they're super rare. I've only had one drop and I've already done all my daily/weekly stuff + wandered for a few hours.
The new caravan missions aren't live yet. I think the ETA. for those is still just "later this month." Until they drop, I'd call this update way more minor than I was expecting. There were people acting like the game was gonna die with the new legendary system and I'm just not seeing that at all.

The new caravan missions/mechanics are now live as of this morning. I haven't had a chance to try anything out (it's a series of missions you have to play out), but I've seen lots of "???" reactions from random public teammates during my daily stuff. Not sure if that's, good, bad, or what.

Started playing again a few days ago, first time since 2019. All the new changes are nice.
The slight delay (lag) on every action and lack of modding ability is a shame though. I looked into the Custom Worlds but they really don't provide enough options.

Game would be truly amazing if they released it fully offline and moddable at some point.

I will say real-time VATS has grown on me.

I wish the weapons and builds were better balanced. Weapons like the Holy Fire, Gauss Chaingun, Plasma Caster, Nuka Launcher, etc. are just straight up better than everything else. There are roughly 7-8 of them. Yes, you can make a lever action or a war club viable in the sense that you can run around and do things with them, but they're still inferior in basically every way. Just try running a solo Op or Pitt/AC run and note how much more ammo and time everything takes. You pretty much have to go with a low health build with all the exact right gear/cards/mods and even then they're still lesser than one of those primo weapons. Those low health builds just kinda upend the entire meta of the game, and they've been like that since I first played at launch. It's probably why like 90% of people are running around with the same stuff with the same build, same cards, etc. I feel like the game could use some variety, and the new mod system is going to compound things. Instead of "god roll" guns, everyone can theoretically just craft the exact meta version of those same top tier items.

Finally checked on my mule accounts today, got multiboxing on Steam working with this guide.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3153875374

I have 13 characters that look like this... Around 300k caps on hand, and 18k every day selling the junk basically forever.
I'm playing a new character like a solo game so I won't take any of the caps, feels like cheating. Nice to know they are still there.

If anyone needs fiber optics or crystal HMU. lol

My completion so far (45 hours).

I've hit a wall with caps (nothing left to buy for the most part) but if you have extra gold I'm 100% interested. Getting full sets of T65 and Secret Service gear is a hell of a pain in the ass, and they require gold.

It feels like they keep devaluing caps by adding all of those other currency types. Scrip, Gold, Tokens, Stamps, Supplies, etc. Outside of specific power armor mods and serum recipes, caps are pretty much just for buying from other players now. I wish they'd allow you to pay/charge other currency types with your CAMP store.

So I just got 1st and noticed private worlds don't have the latency issues that the regular servers do. The improvement is so drastic it prevents me from shooting an extra shot in VATS each time an enemy dies.
All of my shots land instantly, and looting is instant.

Yeah, when I want a lag free game, or im doing questing for new content I always start a private game.

The other reason for FO 1st is you can transfer items/caps to an alt to hold on too.

Can't say I've ever had any issues with lag beyond a weird bug where the Pip Boy would lag out after one of the summer patches. I think my only motivation for ever trying FO1st would be for a larger CAMP. Mine's been maxed out forever. If I want to ever add anything, I have to start tearing down signs or removing slab foundations that aren't 100% necessary. I finally have (nearly) all of the CAMP plans, but I can't even use most of them. I'm hoping that if I bail and come back to it then maybe some of those limits will be lifted. When I first played it back at launch my CAMP and storage limits were only a fraction of what they are now.

My guess is that they have more regional servers dedicated to private worlds, and wherever the server is located is closer to me. I also noticed it takes a few seconds longer to connect to private.
Or maybe the server just lags more with a bunch of other players doing stuff.

Did they change the way vendor caps work?
I got 2 resets yesterday, the 1400 from a train station robot then another 1400 from the girl at the lumber mill. This was at 12:30 PM and around 6 PM, both after reset.

Also... I have a problem.

There have been days where I've seen vendors with more caps than usual. Usually 3600 specifically. No clue what seems to cause it, though. Did you buy anything? That's one way to get them to get their caps back. I've been buying up the serum recipes (no real other use for my caps) and at 17-21K caps each they full-on replenish the vendor caps for the day.

Hopefully today is when they roll out some Halloween content. I've been waiting to buy a robotic black cat forever.

Yeah the first vendor I talked to on my new playthrough had 3600 caps. At first I thought they increased the daily cap limit...

I just opened the shop and there's a bunch of spooky stuff there now, so yes.

I have no idea what causes it, but that seems to be the magic number. This weekend is supposed to be a double-caps weekend for NPC vendors, so hopefully they actually have 2x the caps as usual. For the last week or two I've run them out of caps within minutes of the daily reset. I'm trying to buy all of those damned serum recipes, but the game intentionally makes it a slog.

Doh. No robotic black cat or bundles containing one yet. Hopefully they don't skip out on it.
Of note, I guess there's another large update inbound that rebalances some of the weapons/cards and adds a 4th star legendary option. I always thought it was odd that gear displayed 5 stars, but only 3 were ever used. No clue when it'll hit the real game, but it's being tested out on the public test server.

Just grab a 2nd account and it opens up 5 character slots: 7000 more daily caps and 6000 more stash space.
Everytime my stash fills up I go to my mules and store or sell everything. Assuming you have enough RAM you can just leave the 2nd copy running in the background at all times, while you play.

I also stored an extra slot for a friend and we play together sometimes. You can even dual box with yourself to abuse the Charisma team perks. Keys are like $8-10 lol it's cheaper than 1st.

Been playing an energy pistol build. This popped up randomly when I finished a quest (looted an Overseer tape).
The crazy thing is I just crafted a legendary Enclave pistol a few hours ago with modules and got shitty stats.
