Fallout 76

I bought FO76 previously on steam. I went to amazon page and I have the PC code. Is it giftable? If so, I'll post to freebies thread.

FINALLY figured out how to get this installed.....I needed the Xbox app...

So, are making camps something you really need to do or no? I absolutely loath the building and crafting garbage in every bethesda game.

The game would be very challenging without a camp (your home).
Just plop down some storage and crafting stations and don't worry about it.

I can see how this game can be super annoying...its more or less just trying to find junk you can scrap so you can keep your gear in good repair...that really isn't very much fun.

I never got the draw to this game personally, and I'm a massive FO3/Skyrim/FO4 fan. I'd literally rather just jump into any of the single-layer Bethesda games versus play this.

Its more or less the same if you dont do anything with otber players but it still seems lifeless and tedious compared to the other games.

I guess that's what I don't understand. To me it basically just seems like a shittier FO4 since it's missing all the unique elements, NPC life, etc.

I mean its all in there, but its a LIVE service game. So they have to keep things updated and it plays differently. There is quite a bit of NPC life around the map, just gotta know where to find it.

I even have a camp that has 2 BOS NPC's there because they were in the game guarding a road. So, you just gotta know where they are. Some NPC's only spawn in area's sometimes.

There are unique elements in the game. But again its different than FO4....since it has to be because its a live service game.

like Brackle said it isn't missing unique elements. If you ignore allthe live service missions, it has a storyline mission set. there is a LOT of just random side quests and daily quests that pop up constantly though you just have to weed through it. It does force you to kind of grind for junk to convert to usable stuff and to grind caps. At least for the 16 hours or so I've put in, caps don't come easy and things are expensive. My inventory is almost always nearly full which I hate....I always used mods in the other games to allow me to carry 10,000 pounds or whatever it is but it still all just mostly junk items to scrap so I can keep my weapons and armor in good condition. I also don't really care for the having to eat and drink either. I just want to explore and do stuff.

I'm coming back to this after playing through FO4 and I'd say it's definitely different than I remember from 4 years ago. There are now actual people NPCs around. They don't always have much (or even anything) to say...but they're there! There are even a few large settlements. The game tosses a few NPC-heavy quests at you early, but as you progress, there seem to be fewer of them. The game still leans pretty heavily into the "find the Overseer recordings" storyline it has always had, but there are way more sidequests and things to do than there were originally. Weapon balancing and even variety seems different than I remember. I've been using the same guns for a long time and am approaching level 20. There are other weapons around, but you can't use most of them until you hit level 50, which at least used to be the "endgame" portion of things.
For a game that's more popular than it has ever been before, I'm not seeing all that many people actually playing. It's mostly been people who are level 200+ hanging out in their gigantic fortresses. In the 15 hours I've played recently, I bet I've only seen 2 people anywhere near my level. I dunno if I'm choosing the wrong game type or what (I still see people nuking stuff constantly), but there aren't many low level people.
Not sure I'd say the game is night and day different than before, but it's at least pretty different. There are boatloads of little missions and whatnot, so at the very least you won't be hard up for stuff to do.

Just wanted to say that the new map expansion is live! Questline is pretty cool so far. Loving this new story.....

I got into that area and immediately ended up in some infinitely spawning enemies by the ranger station thing. promptly left. I'm lvl 52 and all my weapons are fairly garbage for some reason same with my armor. I seem to get destroyed easily by most things. I guess I'm supposed to craft and or mod stuff but I absolutely loath doing that. I cant really craft high level stuff either it seems. its all like level 5 stuff.

After playing for like 80 hours so far, I honestly feel they could just make this a single player game and forget all the other always online aspects of it. I haven't done anything with another human and don't plan to. So much garbage going on that I end up seeing the same little one off questss over and over and over.

I don't disagree, although it can be fun when you're playing with people you know. On my first pass through the game, my wife and I would essentially play it like a co-op Fallout game and it worked great. It's actually a lot of fun like that. Back when everyone was nuking White Springs all the time, that was also kinda fun. Somewhere in the last 4 years that seems to have stopped. Everyone seems to be doing their own thing now. Maybe that's the nature of the way the game works now, but it seems like the social elements have decreased minus playing with 1-2 people you know.

For those who play - How do you manage your power armors? I try to make sets so I can see which I like better and then swap out pieces as I find 3 star gear. Is there anything easier than added the chassis to your person, deploying, checking and then restashing? Without being able to label the power armor chassis its a pain in the ass finding a BoS set vs the digging set as an example. Only thing I can think of is using atom points to buy the display racks.

Related to power armor - is there still a way to display/store your power armors? Back when the game first launched, you'd see people with dozens of fully outfitted power armor sets in their camps. So far I've only seen people with one set on display. Am I missing anything? I have like 15 frames, but will probably get rid of some if there's no real point. Seems like 5 sets is probably plenty beyond aesthetics.

i thought they just left them sitting there after the got them...

It now automatically recalls unoccupied armor to your inventory after something like 5 minutes. No clue if other people can hop into it or what, either. In general, power armor doesn't seem to work anything like it did when the game first launched.

Yup, you can get display stands for them in the Atom shop or sometimes as scoreboard rewards. Coincidentally, the limit is 5 display stands and/or mannequins.

Nobody can take it unless you "drop" it from your inventory (as opposed to "using" it from your inventory).

Good to know! In your opinion, is there a reason to ever have more than 6 (5 on display + 1 to actually wear) power armor frames/sets?

Probably not, I just kept 2. One hellcat and one excavator for if I ever wanna mine something. I don't really use either very often.

Whelp, I logged in at the old folks home for government dignitaries after forever... and my power armor spontaneously exploded. Anyone have hand me down parts maybe?

May have already whined about this one at some point, but it still sucks.

Even though my old character is/was level 85, I just started over vs. trying to rock a totally unoptimized character and figure out what quests were what.
I figure that once I hit level 50 I'll login to my old character on my wife's machine and gift myself everything that's still worth a damn. At the very least I still have a bunch of power cores and 4-5 strong legendaries.

Whew, I'm finally almost back to level 50. One thing I don't like about the new version of the game is how much it gatekeeps behind that level 50 wall. You're constantly finding gear you can't use, you can't shift power armor pieces around, you're underpowered for the events, nobody is selling anything under level 45, your drops will all be useless later, etc.
It feels almost like a race to get to level 50, and all the plot-related gear you get along the way is going to suck when you do. I've stopped doing anything plot-related so I don't waste my drops. I kinda wish gear didn't even have levels. There doesn't seem to be any real need for it considering the meta for things.

Thanks to double XP over the last week, I'm now up to level 78. I have to say that the missions they've added more recently (like the BOS, nukashine, and astronaut) are pretty robust. They aren't exactly Far Harbor or Nuka World, but they're a big step up from collecting holotapes and talking to robots. It's kinda sad that you'll want to wait until you're level 50 to do them, but at least they're good. I haven't made my way down to the new areas yet (I'm still doing some faction stuff), but supposedly it's solid content, too. Considering I paid full price for the game a few years ago, I kinda wish they'd comp me some of the "Fallout 1st" stuff. Pretty much all of the CAMP stuff is locked down behind that service.

The new missions are continuing to impress me. The Atlantic City and Pittsburgh areas are well done, too. I don't think it's on the level of the better FO4 missions, but some of that relates to the MMO nature of the game. If you haven't played the game in a minute, it's worth popping back in and trying some of the new missions or even just starting totally over.

Along those same lines, I'm noticing that enemies have become super spongy past level 75'ish. I have a full arsenal of 2-3 star legendary level 50 gear and a stack of cards to boost my damage output. Yet it feels like a lot of these enemies are designed to be fought with a posse of people. I've gotten to the point that I'm sticking to melee just so I don't waste 5000 rounds of ammo in every fight. It still takes like 5-10 minutes per boss, but at least it isn't wasting resources. Not sure if I'm missing something or what.

its really just the legendaries that feel this way, especially the scortched flying things but it does kind of suck that even regular ghoul enemies can still take sometimes 4 or 5 shots from something to kill even when the weapon does 125+ damage a shot. I always worry about not having enough ammo even though I'm carrying around 1500+ for the weapons I carry.

Yup, it's mainly legendaries and/or boss-type enemies that probably should have some stars by their name. The first enemies that came to mind were the Jersey Devil, Blue Devil, Sheepsquatch, Ogua, and "Buttercup" (power armor guy in Atlantic City). Ditto with those 3-star sentry bots that are bosses for a couple different missions.

In all of those fights, my weapons were only showing visible damage to their healthbar after blowing through a full magazine. I have to go through hundreds if not thousands of rounds to kill them. Hence melee and circle strafing is usually the best option. They aren't 1-shotting me or anything, but they do seem to take at least 25-30% of my health with each hit, too. That's in a set of level 50 excavator armor. The sentry bots hit hard enough where I find myself having to cheese them to avoid dying in 1-2 seconds. It feels like a math error or the game really wants you to play with other people. No clue if the damage scales for multiple people, but I certainly hope it doesn't.

Normal 'ol humans, scorched, ghouls, etc. seem totally normal. Even stuff like Wendigos, Snallygasters, Megasloths, etc. = totally normal. It's just those rando enemies that feel "off."

Gotta just cheese the AI sometimes also with sneak 2.x shots. Ive done that a lot...except thise flying things. The amount times ive just alt f4'd out of the game because those things show up and i can never get away

I can live with some of the inherent bullet sponginess of leveling in games. However some of these end bosses are just stupid. I did one of the Pitt expeditions for the first time, I'm level 148 and do moderate damage. It took far too long to click click click click click..... reload, repeat with no further challenge other than keeping distance from the enemy. Just to drop their life to nothing then, of course, they self regen and I have to do it all over again. That crap is annoying.

What sort of weapons are most people using with the current meta for the game? I was mostly using a bolt-action .308 rifle from level 5 all the way until I hit 50'ish. It eventually stopped hurting normal mutants and scorched enough to justify keeping around. That's even outfitted with all the bells and whistles + legendary armor penetration. Subsequent ones that are much higher in level seem no better, too.

I haven't really ever found anything else that works consistently. Even with an arsenal of multi-star guns with lots of upgrades + a stack of card boosts. At this point I swap between 3-4 guns depending on however much ammo I happen to have. The .308 light machineguns seem to be powerful, but they also go through 1000 rounds in like 30 seconds. My Whacker Smacker (that I got by accident when passing through a public event) seems to be way stronger than any normal gun I can find. It also repairs with super common materials. Is there a meta for guns that I've overlooked or is melee just extra strong right now?

Supposedly the Railway Rifle that you can get plans from Wallace at Berkeley Springs Station, is the easiest meta gun to obtain.

The Railway Rifle is, hands down, the best (and most "broken") weapon in the game. It offers players some amazing effects, such as being able to pick up bullets from enemies and staggering enemies. Additionally, the damage on this weapon is out of this world. If players can find the weapon with the Quad Legendary Effects, they will have an even better weapon as they will be able to reload less often. The Commando Perks, Tank Killer, Adrenaline, Bloody Mess, and Better Criticals will make this weapon completely unstoppable.

Pretty sure I have a legendary railway rifle stashed that I've never even touched. I'll have to give it a try.
