Fallout 4

Got my CE from Amazon.

The pip-boy is a complete piece of shit. Definitely not something that is meant to be used, or even played with. Neat shelf piece, but that's about it. Dunno... maybe it's down to QC, but the one I got is falling apart already. I've noticed couple missing screws, whatever knobs are on this thing, I'm afraid to touch them in fear of just breaking them off. Fucking disaster.

Did you really envision wearing it while you're playing?

I'm still waiting for mine to arrive ... listening to the FO4 and FO3 soundtracks while I wait ... should deliver in the next 2-3 hours

Amazon changed the fucking delivery date to Wednesday for mine...WTF.

I guess "guaranteed release date delivery" doesn't mean shit.

I was worried because they didn't ship until yesterday but it is on the UPS truck for delivery ... my guide unfortunately doesn't come until Thursday though (still waiting for shipping confirmation on that)

No sli here with 2 780ti. Changed the frame rendering options around and it puts a load on the second card but the frame rate tanks. At 1080 with one card and damn near everything at max runs like a champ. Gotta use vsync or it tears like a bitch. Most recent nvidia driver.

Can someone tell me, how do you get out of the command prompts for Dogmeat?

Just came across him and missed some pop ups, can't figure out how to stop giving him commands...

lol, I lost dogmeat. I think he got beat up somewhere. actually the game is better that way, he is more annoying than useful, unlike d-dog. Searching for shit which happens to trigger his commands.

The metacritic reviews are amazing. Saw one person give it a 0 because he thought it was going to be an isometric like 1 & 2.

Ah he's alright, I use him as my mobile storage bin. I basically just have him on auto pilot with me.He still detects things and fights too.
(He does tend to get knocked down a lot, resulting in using my stimpaks like 3 times as much as I am.)

It's too bad we can't rename our companions.

I went to the Target website this morning to see if they were in-stock locally...clicked on the product link and the page wouldn't load. Checked again a couple hours later and now the product page is completely gone.

Damn man, that sucks :(

I happened to check my order Sunday night and noticed that for some strange reason shipping was set to 2-day delivery, luckily I was able to change it overnight.

Looks like mine should be waiting for me when I get home

That's some BS...I live in WA and they shipped out of Texas...yours shipped out of Portland which is WAY closer to me, lol.

Oh well, I contacted Amazon and they gave me a free month of Prime which is really not much, but whatever.

I'm sure Ebay resellers snapped these up with the quickness...

a single bottle going for $15 on Ebay, fuck these assholes

$15? That's a steal. I've seen idiots (try) selling them for $100-$150 per bottle. The same thing happened when Surge had a limited rerelease earlier this year.

Wait....so you're telling me I drank 60 fucking dollars worth of soda?

I really don't get why they don't actually you know..make it a non limited item, something that people might actually want and they can keep making money off of.

If it's getting good reviews and people want it..keep making it.
It's a repackaged product from a low volume manufacturer, nothing special. The bottles don't even look anything like Nuka-Cola Quantum as it appears in the game. I'd just as well make my own. By some glass bottles in bulk, make and print out the labels, and make the soda formula up. Maybe even see if I can irradiate them for that signature glow :D.

How much is a month of Amazon Prime worth these days? If you ordered from Gamestop they gave you a $10 gift card...

So I was messing around with a controller, the game UI is just much better with it IMO and I realized there is almost zero aim-assist in F4. Looked around the net and it seems to be that way on the consoles as well. I wonder if this is where some of the frustration with the game is coming from on that end. I couldn't hit shit using the controller, it was terrible.

How does Bethesda build a game, clearly around the consoles, and it has no aim assist. Blows my mind.

Four hours and I've got to take a break for a while. No problems whatsoever so far.

So.. its out, I haven't bought it yet (gonna order a GTX 950 or 960 with it).

But! Anyone running this on a dual core?

Tom's ran the Core i3 with no vsync medium at 1080p, and got an average of 80fps, with minimum above 50fps:

Since the speed doesn't change when they drop down to 40% the resolution, it looks to be CPU-limited.

I think if your Pentium G3258 is overclocked, it should have similar performance. And consider it this way: if the game crashes (*if* it's one of those rare games that's badly coded), you can get your money back. Steam FTW :D

I'm going to run it on my GTX 960 + overclocked i5 2500k when I get home in a couple hours, I'll let you know what settings I was able to use.

Wait, you're complaining about LACK of aim assist? That's always the first thing I turn off if a game has it on. It's a crutch and leads to being a terrible player. Sure, if you've got a 6 year old and he's struggling with Halo then you leave it on, but for everyone else? Just forms a bad habit.

Gotta applaud them for this.

Running an old quad-core here with a r9 280 and it runs decent.

2560 x 1440 resolution, medium settings

Bottoms out at mid- 20's fps outside but mostly sits around 35-50 fps.

I might play on TV screen with 1080p with a controller though.

I'll be interested to hear the settings on the 960. That's what I'll be playing it on, but with a 4690k for the CPU.

I'm almost definitely going to be rocking a pad. Interesting about the aim assist thing. I've gotten pretty decent at pad aiming, so I'm curious if I'll notice.
While not quite the same...isn't VATS essentially like uber aim-assist?

I use aim assist when using a controller, yes, like everyone else that plays games with a controller. No one uses a controller and turns off aim assist.

Hope my 290X is enough to get about the same at 4K. My TV is 30Hz so as long as I can push 30FPS 95% of the time I'll be happy. I'll be playing it as soon as I get home from work, just saw Steam finished the download.

My Steam Controller arrived today too, but it looks like FO4 might not work too great with it yet.

EDIT: never mind, you might be GPU-limited at those settings and 1440p.

Sooo...what's up with the below average "user" scores on metacritic? Granted I take them with a grain of salt but some people don't seem to be happy.

My guess is that anyone who felt let down gave it a straight up zero right off the bat.

I dunno.

Edit....With that said, anyone here want to chime in with a more mature review?

My Pip-Boy Edition is still not shipped amazon told me yesterday i will get it on wed now :/

really hope i get it lol

Did you just discover Metacritic? There were ankle-biters giving GTA 5 PC a "0" too, and that was about as perfect a PC release as we've had in recent memory.

Giving this game a 0/10 is basically just screaming to the internet that you spit out your medication this morning or were oxygen deprived at birth. Not the most well adjusted people.

Many of them are pretty moronic. Half of them look like they just read a different 0/10 review and reworded it. I.e. the review where the guy says the quests are all boring and stupid and says he's getting a Steam refund, which IIRC means he didn't even play it for two hours.

Or people saying the story and all the dialogue is garbage, when they've probably experienced about 2% of it at most so far.

People saying that they're getting 10 FPS on high end computers when I'm getting perfectly fine framerates (good enough I haven't bothered to check) with my 2.5 year old computer...

People saying it CTDs constantly when I've played for 6-8 hours without a hitch...

There may be many legitimate complaints, including about the above subjects, but for so many people to so rapidly conclude that these things make this one of the worst games ever made is obviously nonsense.

Edit....With that said, anyone here want to chime in with a more mature review?

IMO you can't give anything even close to an accurate review of a game like this with anything less than 30 or 40 hours into it, but: So far, no bugs worth mentioning. No crashes. I like the new Perk system and so far think it's preferable to the old skill system (deeper, more meaningful). I enjoyed the "lead in" part of the game. Crafting and building and maintaining settlements seem like it will be a lot of fun, though I've only scratched the surface. Graphics aren't super, but I think we all know that, and I think they're decent in general though I'll sometimes run across a person or object that looks like it could have used some more time.

Still waiting for mine to arrive (and then I still need to get it downloaded and loaded), but if you read through some of them you see a lot of nitpicking ... the hardcore RPG types are complaining about the new SPECIAL system and perks, the anti-shooter crowd are complaining about the improved shooting in the game, the anti crafting crowd about the city and crafting mechanic, etc

There are also lots of complaints about graphics and story but that seems standard for any Bethesda game ... looks like standard Metacritic shenanigans

i have the 4590 and a 960 and it set everything to ultra. getting 30 fps outside, had to turn down stuff a bit. still looks good though

One thing I have to say I like a lot better in this game (vs fallout 3) is the loot variety and the layering system.

While you still do have "outfits" that take up your entire body, there seems to be (At least from my experience) a lot more non-outfit gear that allow you to put it on individual parts of your body, or even some that layer (IE Harness over a shirt).

Really wnat to get a nice leather jacket and a leg brace with some left-side only leather armor and a glove.

playing at 1440p with the specs in my sig, everything on ultra except god rays on low and ambient occlusion on low. i get about 50-60fps in the wasteland.

Same here.

I also like what they've done with power armor.

I've just spent three hours in the game, one hour of witch was with the character creator :-D

First things first whoever says the game is no improvement over skyrim is either lying or extremely biased, and should re-play skyrim to get their head straight, don't listen to them.

Your character looks leagues better, the graphics is much better. After all the belittling by the naysayers I expected it to be not very good, but I actually was surprised to find that the game looks pretty decent.

The animations are improved too, it's not perfect, not even close to that, but it's a big leap from skyrim. It's also better than what I was expecting. I also heard about lipsync issues, but even that looks fine to me. So far I'd say the lipsync is better than average.

But sadly I did encounter a pretty serious bug right at the beginning in the overseer's office, and I don't mean radroaches. When I interacted with the terminal, and quit without opening the passageway, the game locked me out of the controls, I frooze in place in front of the console and couldn't move, couldn't even get back in it, so I had to load the last save. This ofc prompted me to do a quick save before each terminal lest it happens again.

Apart from that it runs well, everything maxed out at 1440p. I didn't check the actual fps numbers, but it seems good enough for me. I don't care for having quad-zillions of fps.

The only thing that I do take issue with is the interface. It's terrible, and clearly tailored for controller usage. Us old school pc folk really worth that little, that we don't even get a tailor made interface for mouse/kb control?

Oh and there is no hardcore mode, as far as I can tell, which is a crying shame. Best new feature of NV over F3.

I suspect when people compare to Skyrim they are remembering Skyrim + the official HD texture pack, plus probably even more HD texture packs by modders. In that sense, it's probably more comparable. Vanilla Skyrim did NOT look as good as FO4, though.
