EVoLVE Official Thread

Jesus H Christ, this game nearly gobbles up all 4 gigs of my 980s VRAM, even with no AA

Typical flickering textures on my 295X2 but otherwise game runs great. Looks interesting and I just worked through the tutorial, I'll likely be playing it primarily single player so I'll try to report back how that works.

Overall the game definitely is different which is good and I'm always willing to try new things.

Oh yeah, AMD needs to step up their driver releases.

Oh for fucks sake, did I step back into 1999!? It's time for Blu Ray format PC industry.....

LOL you deserve that old timer. Get with the times and go digital download! :D

Very good performance.
Nice to see a TWIMTBP title showing some love on AMD hardware. Great performance all around.

So you don't get all the hunters with the vanilla 60.00 purchase?
You'll have to buy them in separate DLC. The PC Monster version simply includes that future DLC in its price. That is what my understanding is, anyway.

Dude, what!? So it launches @ $60.00 with skins DLC galore , and you don't even get all the playable classes?

The other classes are currently in development as DLC, much like the additional monsters. The game itself includes everything that is part of the core experience regardless of which edition you purchased.
Hahah 3 days to install from disk... thats lovely.
Well... he did take the screenshot at 5MB of disc 1. Everyone knows that the drive takes time to spin up.

No. The base version of the game is all of the available content now. New maps will be released for free for everyone regardless of the DLC you purchase. New characters and new monsters will be released in the future. If you purchase one of the higher tier packages, you will get those DLC characters and monsters automatically.

That's pretty much it. There's a lot of skins available as DLC too but they are purely cosmetic.

Game looks like fun. Will wait for GOTY edition with all the DLC included and then buy a 4 pack for $20 and play with friends.

Current money grab is too strong for me to partake now. Shame really - I only see this marketing plan hurting the game. We'll see I guess - maybe they really can sell monsters for $100 a pop /shrug

What are you even talkling about? If the game's not your cup of tea that's fine but outright FUD isn't very useful for anyone.

Seriously. The $100 package basically buys you all the future DLC in addition to the game, aside from the skins. There is no single item that costs $100. Season Pass is $25 US by itself.

Remember when skins and whatnot were things you could unlock with just some effort?

Yeah, that was just cosmetic, but at least they didn't charge you up the ass for it.

Don't like it but it is just cosmetic junk. Nothing game changing.
Yes, notice that I said "aside from the skins." That defines exception, not inclusion.

That is the main thing that bothers me about the business model in the game. Most skins cannot simply be unlocked. You have to purchase them. Hunter skins cost $5 and monster skins cost $7... Now I would not have a problem purchasing these if the game was free-to-play and deserving of the money. I'll gladly support a developer that is providing a good service where the game itself is completely free, and I have done plenty of that in Path of Exile. But having just paid $60+ for the game I feel that the developer has gotten more than enough financial support from my interest in the product, especially on one that is likely to have a short turnaround time like Titanfall. You can't have it both ways, 2K... Either provide a premium product or do macrotransactions with a F2P service.

Who cares?

They are just skins, stupid petty bullcrap that adds nothing to the game. If someone wants to buy them with their own money, that's their decision. Nobody is forcing you to buy them if you don't want to.

For $60.00 you get a fully playable AAA game. Just imagine the skins weren't even an option, completely block them from your mind. Problem solved.

Not only do you people cry about Pay2Win, but you also cry about purely cosmetic items. There is no winning with people like you.

anyone else having major issues with memory usage in this game?
i dont believe high settings should max out three 4gb 680s

also g sync does not seem to be working in this game.

Yeah.....i'll wait until it drops in price. LOL.

its the retarded unlcoking system they have. Nothing stacks and you have to rank up all hunters in sequence....its the stupidest way for unlocks I have ever seen. That fact that preorder has them all unlocked just tells me that those who didnt preorder shouldnt bother with the game at all.

Well... I would say not say that. What we are most likely seeing is a VERY optimized Cryengine for AMD console hardware using directcompute which AMD excels with. Also probably the major reason why no special "day 1" driver was needed. (Having Mantle for this game would have been awesome.)

Fortunately for AMD, nvidia couldn't get their gameworks plugin done in time and I guess the developers (well publishers probably) were tired of waiting to release their game and start getting income. It'll come I guess.

That seems like the glass empty way of looking at it. I actually thought it was pretty smart to make players unlock hunters and monsters in a sequence, because it makes you gain some proficiency and basics before you move on to the next. I think it's a game design thing and I think it's a solid approach. It's not merely to drag out the unlocking process.

When I first realized that I had to gain some proficiency with the Goliath before I could use Kraken, at first I was like WAT but then slowly realized the game is basically training me and stepping me through each monster rather than just trying to take them all in at once. They're very nuanced.

Seriously, who cares if someone wants to spend extra money and have them all unlocked out of the gate? They're not getting more enjoyment out of the game than anyone else.

Yep, Very high settings with no AA almost maxes out my STRIX 980

for me, anything above medium settings causes my memory usage to max out.
i can have everything on medium and turn just one setting up to high and it happens.

i posted this on the evolve forums with no help and no response from the devs.

Why does a game that costs $60 + more for DLC need paid DLC skins? The whole thing is bullshit. Skins should be unlocks in a game like this, not $2-5 a pop or whatever they are.

It's a nickel and dime tactic, plain and simple. I mean, this game has $60+ of DLC skins/whatever in addition to what is included in even the $80 package that includes the Season Pass. Horseshit.

Not sure what annoys me more about DLC. The fact Evolve developers tried this or the fact when an AAA developer (Arkham Knight team for example) we hardly hear a whisper.

or that everything is unlocked if you preorder, but if you pay retail, your faced with potentially months to grinding for unlocks.

I have been fallowing this for a year via the guys on rebelFM podcast and it sounds like the worst unlock system ever made.

I'm having stuttering issues while playing. Anyone else having similar issues? I just had my settings on high..

Specs in sig

Say what? What does any of that have to do with what I was arguing about separation of business models?

The basis of my argument in reply to Kongar and other people who are shitting on this game because of what 2K decided to do with the separation of content. All the negativity aimed at this game is because of that. If you look at most of the negative reviews on the Steam store page this is all you'll read about from people who have 0.1 hours recorded from the beta.

I have bought the game myself and am enjoying the hell out of it. I have also bought other games that try to sell cosmetic items at a macro level on top of the premium price. And I do ignore them. You can like a game and developer while still criticising other aspects of it.

So if a game doesn't use VRAM.....everyone cries.

A game uses VRAM...everyone cries.

WUT?

Only reason to bother looking at VRAM is if the game is stuttering...I had it on ultra settings last night and didn't see any stuttering on my 780ti, although I'm only at 1080p. What resolution are you guys maxing out VRAM at? The game looks absolutely stunning so I'm not exactly puzzled about why it would max out on high resolutions.

Also, FYI, there is a free Evolve mobile app that you can mess around with (it's one of those "match 3" time waster games); I normally wouldn't care, but you can get "mastery points" by playing it a bit and you can spend those points on the actual in-game unlocks. Might as well.
