Evolve Alpha sign up is LIVE!

Am I the only one that just absolutely HATES the level/environmental design in this game?

I mean every map just looks SOOOOO tiny and closed off and the fact you don't interact with trees and other things.

I'd love to see more open areas , you know more "natural" looking levels that actually look like a jungle or woodlands.

It just looks very "gamey" like a level designed for a game rather then something you might find in teh real world, and to me it takes away from it because you feel so closed in when playing the monster, constantly running into giant walls all around you.

The devs REALLY need to get out and see what real wilderness areas look like.

I spent the afternoon playing this and I must admit being very disappointed. It comes off as a L4D with a twist. The least enjoyable component for me are the clunky controls, whether playing the hunters or the monster.

I think this game will have the titanfall effect.

It's not a bad game, but I think people are going to get bored after 10 hours.

Use a mouse and keyboard.

Controls didn't seem clunky to me. I'm just sick of the game going back to lobby on EVERY defeat or victory. Just change the map and scramble teams like every other dam server.. Or leave them the same.

Look people! Someone trying to be a smart-ass on the Internet!

Well what exactly made the controls clunky for you? My experience was that I looked around with my mouse and used my keyboard to switch weapons, jump/jetpack, or pick up perks...what else was there?

The Kraken is so OP right now. Dunno what the hell Turtle Rock were thinking making this a flying-projectile throwing behemoth.

Was raped by a kraken several times last night...

I don't think I'll pay 60 bucks for the game though. It's a lot of rinse repeat. As mentioned above it has that Titanfall feeling of being board after a few matches.

Kraken isn't OP, people are just bad.

Can't seem to find a match. I guess the timing is weird (stayed home today from work after tweaking my knee a bit last night) but still...been sitting here for 5+ minutes and nothing.

Sometimes it's a bit broken. Try leaving queue and rejoining.

We got a tough guy over here, get over yourself. Everyone knows the Kraken is OP, whether your team has beaten one or not. You practically don't even need to level the Kraken up to easily win.

So the monster is out for a few days and you have trouble beating them in a game about team play and coordination in a pug, and the monster is OP?

They can't just rebalance the game every time new inexperienced players complain about a monster - the game has a learning curve and it takes strategy to beat the monsters, especially at stages 2 and stages 3. Playing the game with a few friends of mine who have played before (previous alpha) we were easily able to beat most Kraken players in Stage 1. It doesn't feel unbalanced in my experience. Of course if you are playing with new players who don't know the game against a single opponent who is more powerful than you in a 1v1 or 1v2 situation you're going to have trouble.

If they nerf a monster before people have a chance to learn it, most likely it will just need to be rebalanced later. Common sense. I wasn't even implying YOU were bad, but if you are amazing and the rest of your team is terrible you're still going to have a tough time. That's just the balance of the game. It's actually what I see as being the biggest fault - if you play with someone who is a key class (e.g. trapper) and they fuck up badly it can cost you a game. I forsee a lot of raging if they don't have a good matchmaking system.

First off, You are just as new as the players who have played the previous alpha(including myself) to the "new players" who are in big alpha. You only have what? 2 days of gameplay on top of these new guys. To argue these so called new players haven't had a chance to learn is nonsense. I have been apart of teams with guys that are level 20. Plenty of time of playing the game to learn the ins and outs of the monsters they fight against.

When you compare the Kraken and the Goliath, it's obvious the Kraken is OP. Nobody will choose the Goliath when given the opportunity to choose either. The Kraken is not designed to be the stronger monster either, just like the different classes, it just opens up for new playstyle. However, it's abilities make it the perfect killing machine. If you ever played as the Kraken you would know how easy it is to steamroll against a competent team of hunters. I am usually never one to complain about nerfing in games like CS or L4D which require high team coordination and skill, but again the Kraken is plainly OP. It can fly, rendering maggie's pet useless, same goes for Griffin's echo location devices. Markov's electricity gun is near ineffective against the Kraken as Hyde's flamethrower is much stronger. Of course there's strategies you learn to outplay the Kraken, like dodging which is key. Still doesn't detract that as Kraken, it's more mobile than the Goliath; can easily single out a hunter with vortex and kill him while making a quick escape. It has better range than the Goliath with those lightning orbs. Not to mention the idiot who thought it wouldn't be OP to throw in banshee mines which are able to home in on the hunters.

Just do a quick google search, the whole evolve forum is filled with threads saying the Kraken is OP. But my bad, your superior skill and knowledge of the game says otherwise, so maybe it's not

Does anyone know if you get beta access or anything with pre-order? After the alpha weekend I want more Evolve now!

Only managed to get into one game. Performance didn't really seem any better than before, and our team sucked so we got raped by the monster.

I didn't change any settings and it played bout the same for me graphically wise.
I was able to get in and play more games (other than the party matchmaking bugs) but on the whole the game crashed less and was fun to play.

My system cant handle much above medium to medium low lol.

I hear ya. My system is getting a bit long in the tooth. I play it on medium with Tesselation and 2xAA. Plays great at a constant 60 fps. Tried playing on High initially with dips in the 40 fps range. Still , the game looks good on medium settings imo.

So I'm guessing at 1080p you hit a VRAM related stutter issue at anything higher than medium settings still with 2GB?

I can't really test personally since I sold my GPU since the last alpha.

If anyone is wondering a 5770 runs the game at 1280x720 at medium at just under 30fps. It's playable since the game isn't really all that fast paced.

Green Man Gaming has an excellent promo for Evolve right now at $15 off. I would assume that $45 is going to be the cheapest we'll see the game for a long while (it releases in Feb 2015) so this is a nice opportunity if you know you'll be buying the game anyway!

Use the voucher code: EVOLVE-THANKS-25OFFX

Not sure if I really want to pre-order this or not, but I'd like to see how it runs on my new rig.

I wouldnt. After multiple times in the alpha the game is decidedly boring. Graphics are very nice, but the game got old extremely quick.
wait for a sale.

The game is 'supposed' to be built around competition like L4D series. This will more than likely, like L4D MP, not be a game the average casual gamer can jump into and have a good time. And that may not be your cup o' tea.

That said, I just don't see this game as nearly competitive as L4D2. The problem I see it is the player who is the monster has no 'team'. 4v1 is going to be a big problem for the lasting power me thinks, I mean who the fuck wants to play by themselves, and to me that kills the competitive nature of the game that TR are trying to promote.

I guess we will see on release but I don't have high hopes for this one. Give us L4D3 goddammit!

I really liked the game when I played the alalpha . I was the monstor most of the time. It's just fun as hell trying to power up and just crush people. While trying to hihide and not get caught at the same time. Think dell has a preorder special on this right now.

I really liked the premise of this game, but from my Alpha experience every single match just devolved into the monster running around in a large circle on the map, being chased by the hunters who are for the most part almost always a little bit too far away to engage. It's really apparent when you see the replay with the dots moving at the end of the round, and they're just doing circles over and over and over and over around the map.

I had an absolute blast in both alphas I played in. There was alot of running as the monster and chasing as hunters but it was something unique compared to cs and the cod series. I like the chances they are taking on this game and can't wait for more.

This can happen, the trapper needs to take short cuts to try and cut the monster off. Sometimes they pan out and a battle happens, other times they don't. If he can get the arena up and hold him in place you can get a good fight in.

Teamwork is really key.

how do I sign up for the PC beta 'technical test' which starts up January 16th?...you're guaranteed access if you played the Alpha or have L4D or Bioshock Infinite in your Steam library

Some conflicting details out there about the Beta. Looks like PC users may not get the full length test as the XBox users do which would suck but at least it comes out soon.

I do look forward to playing again though :)

didn't realize it was coming out so soon...and that the game uses CryEngine

Yeah the game looks amazing I didn't know it used the Cryengine though offhand I suppose they flashed it at the loading screen and forgot about it.

I like all Cryengine games
