this is my most anticipated game.

There was a twitter response from the community manager at Turtle rock who said sometime next week a few days ago (which would be this week now).

did they say whether you will be emailed or the game will pop up in your steam library?

EDIT: Never mind, checked the wrong email. I got a key, woot!

I registered the key on Steam, the game said it was around 13 GB. It downloaded about 120 MB and then said it was done, and if you click the game it says "Can't run (missing executable)". WTF? I understand if they want it locked until Friday, but why can't we download the 13 gigs first?

They said it will download later near aug 1st.

why is it dumb? You get to try the game before you buy it. I see nothing wrong.

Well to be honest some people might not have the fastest internet on the planet, so they would want to have the game downloaded so they can hop in on day one. Many times during these short time frame events, people have to work for most of the event schedule. Having the ability to hop in right when it goes live actually might mean the difference in being able to test the game or not. If you can only play the first day, and you're still downloading it, then it was a waste of time.

If people want preload they should really go to the forums in there emails and ask for it.

Official time is "9am PDT on Friday" for alpha release.

The timing of the download versus when it's playable is dumb, not the fact that we're getting to play the alpha. Doesn't make sense to me that it's up now on Steam but you can't actually pre-load more than 120 MB of it.

Technically its none of it.
You downloaded a DirectX redistrib package and a readme file. I guess one could consider the readme is a piece of it...

Downloading now.

EDIT: Played one round. Not sure what NDA is on this but my first impression is that I might have to upgrade my computer for this one. Could just be Alpha pre-optimization, though. Very promising game though.

Didn't get the email. Kinda glad however as I am in Hawaii and the key would go unused. Congrats to the recipients of invites. Hope this game rocks.

Playing as the monster is way too much freaking fun! I'm like 3-0 as the monster! I wonder what the NDA is also. The screen has my name and serial number pasted all across it so I assumed they didn't want me to stream it. I was playing at 1920x1080 and everything on max including the TXAA and Tessellation.

Maybe tonight I will try to play as one of the hunters. :)

Hm. Stuck on "update needed." Doesn't seem to want to download past that.

At 1920x1080, Very High detail and SMAA Ultra/Tessellation on I get some pretty noticeable slowdown at times. It was playable for the most part but I think I need to tweak it down a bit, or wait for optimizations. Graphically it's very nice, though.

I only got to play as a hunter (the one with the orbital bombing? Not sure who it was as the game tells you nothing about any of the classes/weapons/etc.) but some asshole kept blaring some sort of native Indian music over the mic so it was a bit obnoxious. I muted him but eventually it came back for some reason.

We totally owned the monster, though. He didn't know how to run away apparently. I also felt as though the netcode was pretty laggy, might have just been matched up with people in a different part of the world, though, since it was mid-workday my time.

EDIT: Found this on the main forums so I guess we can't discuss it at all?

Turtle Rock Forums said:
Because the Alpha requires testers to agree to a strict NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement), this means they won't be able to publicly discuss their time in the game.

However, I can't actually find the NDA itself so I have no idea what the limitations are.

I didn't get a single slowdown the entire time I was playing. It was buttery smooth on my system. I'll try some other settings and see if I can get it to hiccup. I set it to TXAA since it let me. Is SMAA higher?

(Could Google but easier to ask even if I get a mean answer.)

Oh and an important tip. If you're a human, don't venture out from the group because you saw the monster early. I killed an entire group because the trapper waltzed in like he was Rambo and I turned him into lunch in 5 - 10 seconds. Then I killed and ate the medic. Rest of the dominoes fell one by one. I didn't even get to stage 3 of evolution. Game is beast mode literally!

Oh interesting stat. My record for stopping resurrection attempts in a round is 28. Got DNR achievement. Do Not Rez I guess it stood for. Which only made me curb stomp harder.

Game makes me feel like I'm playing Donkey Kong from the view of the bad guy.

I don't think any more invites are going out at this point for the weekend. I imagine they will ramp it up though in further tests.

Game is a lot of fun. SMAA is actually less taxing than TXAA (or should be, anyway). Speaking of which, how did you run TXAA with an AMD card? I thought that was nVidia-only.

I still got a lot of slowdown so I'm going to have to cut down some of the settings. Will start with Tessellation and see where that gets me.

It let me pick it so I figured that I'd give it a go. I'll try SMAA when I play again. Right now my buddies are sad because I got in and they didn't. Don't want to play and have it pop up in the middle of their ARMA III matches. Especially after I was gushing about how great it is to one of them. I got the impression that he was depressed afterwards.

Seems to run poorly for me regardless of settings, so I'll assume it's optimization issues.

Couple of random things...

I've never once seen the monster win.

Always-on mics is fucking obnoxious.

I get an error about not being able to connect to 2k servers any time I try to play. Anyone else having the same problem?

I haven't been having that error, but I have been getting a lot of netcode lag.

Also, it seems like it takes far too long to get into a match. You are basically waiting like 5 minutes with timers, cutscenes, etc.

I've tried every detail setting and I get the same framerate pretty much regardless...which is mediocre.

Well its an Alpha so all of that can be fixed and you being apart of that means you should go to the Alpha forum and offer some feedback.

Having a lot of fun though. Played with the dev's in one game , was awesome they spilled a bit on their plans post launch. Also we had probably one of the funniest matches and a seriously close defeat but as the soldier I managed to remain as the last one alive and clutched it :D

Does it feel like Left for Dead? Monster needs more powers before his moves get predictable to the Hunters.

In the brief gameplay I did before I slept, yes :) That's a good thing. Just wasn't impressed with the audio but its an alpha so ya.

I got my invite yesterday but I was at work so I couldn't download 'til now. Between this and Star Citizen I have my weekend dose of gaming filled.
