EVGA vs. XFX

I apologize for the confusion from the mistake on our website. Our 9 series video cards do come with the Double Lifetime Modder Friendly warranty for our US and Canadian customers. I will ensure the proper changes are made to our website. Thanks for pointing that out!

Now if that isn't great support I don't know what is. I am confident I made the best choice going with XFX.

Whats more important, the stock cooler sticker, or price?

Same card, same cooler, different different prices.

EDIT: Oooohhh costumer service the issue then... hmmm

Im gonna go with Evga, just because im dealing with XfX now with a card and pretty much getting the run around. The fact they have a DBL life time doesnt mean anything , the fact they dont offer any step up type program, cross shipping, straight answer and so on etc etc.. the fact ive read more horror stories with Xfx cards than with Evga do the math. and the fact ive had to inishiate phone calls to xfx and snubbed by techs when i call hmm

You need to elaborate some more. Are you the original or second owner? Did you register within 30 days either way? All the warranties I read said you pay for shipping to them but they pay for it back to you. The EVGA 90 day Step-Up program doesn't mean much to me but the XFX "Double Lifetime Protection" plan sounds nice. "XFXSupport" had a straight answer earlier in this thread a few posts up.

I'd still like to see (in writing) that overclocking is covered with EVGA. Until then, I have to go with the fine print "damage during modification of any kind".

Regardless my decision is made on which company I will go with thanks to all that have posted here. I ordered an XFX 9600 GT just a few minutes ago.

Just to clarify...

The full quotation is...
There is no physical damage to the PCB, GPU/chipset, or components that are caused by: Damage due to improper installation, damage during modification of any kind, damage during any type of Aftermarket cooling installation, and water damage of any kind.

Physical damage refers to damage that is visible to the eye. Physical damage to the PCB physical damage to the GPU or Capacitors. Feel free to take my word for it. Evga allows overclocking without a doubt. Just dont cause any physical damage that can be seen by a visual inspection. I'm not sure how else i can explain to you that the EVGA warranty allows overclocking... EVGA was one of the first to allow its customers to overclock and you will never and nobody has ever been denied an RMA because they simply overclocked. Ask anyone. Feel free to email Joe Darwin if you feel that my response isnt sufficient enough.

I see what you are saying, but if one were to overclock and ruin their EVGA video card, would that not be physical damage? Like the overclocking makes it run too hot for too long damaging components? Sounds like physical damage to me.

If they run too hot for too long its a product defect. If you dont believe me please feel free to call our support line right now and ask. Anyone will confirm that you can overclock. They cant help you overclock, but its most certainly without a doubt in my mind allowed. I know that in the age of vague warranties one must always try to navigate and find anything they can about the warranty. But the EVGA warranty is plain and simple, if you spill water on your card, drop it or something that is physically visible then its not warrantied. But if the card burns up, im sure that it will still be under warranty since theres almost nothing you could have physically done to cause that.

Looks like we had your video card for 4 business days because we were out of stock and on the 5th day upgraded you from a 7600GT to an 8600GT.

eVGA is most certainly referring to physical damage done through tampering with the hardware.

No worries, you made a sound choice. :)

<edit>Oh yeah, and we hav XFXSupport on [H] another good reason to stick with 'em.

Don't forget to register your card as soon as you get it. Otherwise you'll be reduced to 1 year of coverage, which is still better than nothing.

I wont touch anything from XFX, PCChips, ECS, Elitegroup, Amptron, Pine Technology, Matsonic, Alton, etc. All the same company. From my experience their all low end. Maybe they've changed or are trying to but past experience says stay away.

I love EVGA. Easy to get in touch with and US speaking customer support.

I've had nothing but good experiences with EVGA, but from what I hear XFX is right up there too. Don't think you can go wrong either way.

I guess you haven't tried an XFX card in a long time. My last couple of XFX cards have been solid and could clock really high w/o any problems. I've had only one problem w/ a XFX card and XFX took care of me promptly and to my satisfaction.

EVGA is good too.

As it turns out I just shipped my XFX 7900GT in for RMA. I was getting the randon colored dots all over the screen and bad artifacting in 3D apps. Pretty nasty stuff when your trying to enjoy your PC.

So far I like the online messaging ticketing system, although if my card was totally dead, I would obviously want a quicker solution, it took about a week to get my RMA number - messaging back and forth with various techs.

I sent out the card 2 days ago, hopefully the turnaround time isnt too long, I'll post an update when the card comes back.

P.S. anyone have any idea on what they might do? Fix my old card, send me a replacement 7900GT or something else??

XFX, BFG, or eVGA. You can't really go wrong with any of the three.

XFX used to have double lifetime warranty, which is great for re-sale.

EVGA has step-up.

I like the support of both. EVGA even puts spies on forums like this one to be proactive to address issues before it spreads.

Right now, I like evga the best, because of how they dealt with the 680i issue with the upcomming Quads.

Spy!!!!!

Lol, jk... MAYBE!

:p

P.S. I like my XFX Card, so far no problems *Knock on Wood*

I will tell you though PNY was a hassle that I don't want to deal with again.

Never owned an EVGA card though.

Don't almost all of the companies these days use the nVidia graphics reference design? How much could you fuck that up? Almost every card is the same except for price and support. The only real discernible difference is the cooler.

Isn't the real question about their support and warranty?

Can't speak for XFX, but if they don't have anymore refurbished 79xx cards and can't repair yours, they'll probably upgrade you to an 8000 series card. It really depends on what they have on hand when they get your card in.

When I had to RMA my 7900GS to EVGA, they gave me a 320MB 8800GTS.

lol are you sayiing that if my evga 7900gt dies i'd be better off waiting another 2 years before i send it in for an rma? lol especially if i just ordered a 8800gts 512 so i don't badly need the 7900gt replaced just yet. lol maybe by then i will get a 9800gt back. :)

Well, logic would tell me that once they run out of an older series of cards, they would naturally still have to uphold the warranty and thus have no choice but to replace the RMA card with a newer item they have on hand. That sounds like a pretty good deal to me. Send in your 7 series and have a very good chance of receiving an 8 series in return. Like a free upgrade. Maybe even receive an 8800 like IsLNdbOi two posts up.

you don't think it would be shady of me to hold out on the rma even though it has problems now? its not actually dead right now but its giving me weird blurring errors in games right now. tried reinstalling drivers, new, old, beta nothing changes.

It's your card, you paid for it, you do what you want with it. There is nothing that says you have to return a damaged card immediately. I'd wait until you see the 9800 series to show up if you want to wait, you'd have a better chance of receiving an 8000 series in return.

Well there's quite a few cards in the 8000 series, the 8400 8500 and 8600 cards are all slower than a 7900GT, I'd be pretty pissed if thats what they end up giving me...

XFX is low end? Nope.

PCChips, ECS(who owns PCChips) are lower end and I have used motherboards from both and never had an issue with them. I haven't used anything from the rest of the companies you listed.

I remember when all 3 of these companies were starting to sell in the US or become known to public eye anyway. It is really amazing to see these 3 companies come out ahead over all the other Asian big dogs. They have really revolutionized the graphics card maker market. Other than 3dfx's lifetimes, can't think of anyone else that does this(maybe visiontek also?), plus good old US tech support. Keep up the great work guys. I know my next card will be one of these 3.

ECS is putting out pretty decent stuff at prices that are hard to beat. I built two machines in the past six months with the sub-$40 boards from Microcenter. Their driver support is good. Nice quality boards. Got an Amptron board from Pentium 1 days still operational, but it was fairly buggy. Have seen many PCChips boards go south.

Never had an XFX card fail. Only EVGA failure was 6800GS AGP overclocked version with artifacts. Went through two before Newegg refunded $. Retired that machine and moved into PCIex.

The debate over who is better could boil down to RMA and hassle. If you buy XFX from Newegg now you will get a 1 year return policy on most of the new models. That RMA process is the benchmark for me, never a problem. I couldn't find one EVGA card with more than 30 days return.

XFX, BFG, or eVGA. You can't really go wrong with any of the three.

Maybe even MSI? I haven't owned an MSI card before, but I've seen Kyle pull rabbits out of hats for MSI owners when there were RMA issues.

Damn it. I liked EVGA, but now that I know they have US speaking customer support and no Canadian speaking support, I guess I'll go somewhere else, eh. :D

MSI is awesome! I like how they don't require you to show them proof of purchase. It's like XFX's warranty, but 10x better because if you sell it, it will still be covered by warranty. It doesn't matter how much times you sell it either, you could sell it 100 times and it will still be under warranty. They have their own way of tracking the serial number and such. But the problem is, they don't have a lifetime warranty. This is an excellent idea that I think EVGA, BFG, and XFX should look into. Who likes keeping receipts anyways? It's the biggest pain in the ass ever.

umm with XFX its the same deal no? if you dont need to include the receipt then how do they know who originally bought it?

before i got my 8800gt, i posted a question about 8800gt's on these boards in an attempt to decide which company i should go with. if i remember correctly, it was about what came packaged with the cards and what the warranty covered. i ended up going with XFX because one of my main concerns was customer support/ warranty service. the final push came when the XFX rep answered my questions about their product within about an hour of my post on a HOLIDAY WEEKEND...ya, cant really ask for anything more than that imo; definitely above and beyond.

I like XFX. Their RMA process is so smooth. I RMA two passively cool 7950GT and got it back. Evga force me to have a receipt...who the help keeps the receipt anyways?

Yep. The XFXSupport tech even answered my question about whether 112sp 8800GTS 640mb's would SLI with 96sp 8800GTS 640mb's, and I don't think XFX even sells any of those. But he was spot-on, and it did work (just not well, but that was no fault of the 96sp + 112sp discrepancy).

I have been very pleased with my XFX card. Double lifetime warranty is nice. I could care less about a trade in program. If I were planning on getting a new card within 90 days, I would just wait to buy one. And the trade up is full retail price, so I doubt you save anything in the long run. Kind of like the old ATi trade up program. You could send them just about any card for a $20 upgrade credit, and then pay full retail plus shipping, on both cards. Um, no.
