I was going to use the 30 dollar coupon but there was no place to enter it...think I can call them tomorrow and get them to reduce it?

Also I went with the 3 year warranty...peace of mind for only $130 hell ya i'll take it. Normally a 2 year warranty costs $250!!!

Hmm... the other Amilo X laptops in that series have regular keyboards. I wonder if they are compatible.

Though I'm having the dangest time finding a website that sells Amilo X series keyboards.

This dang keyboard still pisses me off.
 
Hey for those of you that have decided to upgrade to 667 memory, can you sell me the remaining 1gb stick so I can be sure i'll have identical memory sticks in my system? Looking for a decent deal as well :)

wholly crap... the amilo line is the same bodystyle as our laptop, just more models with better specs :p

its probably using the a lot same internals, so we'll probably get the raid support at the same time.
 
Amilo line says it supports BT 2.0, anybody know how? I don't see any combo cards with WLAN+BT.
 
For the folks who already have a Stepnote, is the wireless built-in or comes in as an express card?
 
The wireless card is a PCI-Express card. I have tried to replace it with an Intel 945ABG, but Windows will not recognize the card. In fact, with a fresh reload of Windows, it still sees parts of the Atheros card (even though it had never been in the laptop since Windows was loaded)... This makes me think the card is hard coded into the BIOS or something?

Also, has ANYONE been able to get 2 x 1GB RAM chips to run at 333MHz? All I can get is 320MHz?

Yeah, I took the dremel to my laptop last night and opened up a notch for that hidden port (not able to get the components attached to the motherboard properly without putting it back in it's case, so had no choice to test this).

The hidden USB port does nothing. Strange.

because more ports on a laptop are better. you don't have to have a underpowered no powered hub, or find a plug for a powered one. just better all around :)

That is the correct speed. How AMD's IMC works is by a divider off the CPU's actual speed. This particular CPU is 1600MHz, so possible figures to get "close to" the stock RAM speeds are:

6x
1600 / 6 = 266MHz x 2 = DDR2 533

5x
1600 / 5 = 320MHz x 2 = DDR2 640 (the 667 setting)

There is no possible divider to get an actual 333MHz speed.

i dont think that microsoft does that. your going to need a full version of xp. if your lucky you may get your current xp serial # to work. just download and burn xp if you dont have the cd. ive used my serial on 3 different pc's and they were validated each time

I love the Corporate Edition, haha. I do have an OEM XP license I bought, but I haven't even cracked the shrinkwrap, heh.

it's a shame that USB port doesn't work, makes me wonder why the bothered to include the physical port there at all. Ah, well, 3 still isn't bad.

If anyone finds out about that BIOS I'd love to get RAID support. Soon as it's confirmed working I'm swapping over to a pair of 7200RPM'rs and RAID 0.

I thought that was budget ram or something lower quality to be honest. I really don't much much about ram anymore, must be getting too old to keep up. If that is good ram then I will probably bite on it, great price it seems. And yea, I'm going to upgrade HDDs as soon as I find out about the raid too.
 
Well when it comes to laptops, budget ram would be fine considering you're not going to be overclocking.. and its rated to run at that speed, and kingston has lifetime warranty...but I dont know much myself...

Is there even such a thing as high grade memory for laptops? I figured everyone used budget.

I dunno if I should spend 100 and upgrade to 667 or try to find someone selling an identical stick for 40 or less :)
 
Good to know, thanks. I am going to hold on to my original ram I think just in case they are as picky about warranty as they sound.

Also I'd like to throw out an observation I had with Vista. If you are having trouble with speed, check out the max cpu in the resource monitor ( I got to it through task manager/performance/resource monitor.


My pc was chugging on c&c3 and playing some h264 videos and stuff. I had it on the highest power setting and even a custom setting with my own choices.
I was looking at all the statistics and I noticed a blue bar for cpu that said "max frequency." Mine was set on 50%. I tried going back and forth between high power and my custom one and the power saver mode. It was always 50% even on wall power. Then I tried to hop to balanced and back to high performance and what do you know, it jumped to 100%. Give it a go and see if it helps.
 
I picked this up as a decent gaming laptop. I figured with the $1000 I saved rather than buying a Dell with a 7900 Go GS, I could grab a PS3 or something. Who knows.

The button above the keyboard, the one with the fan emblem next to it, locks your laptop at 50% CPU Clockspeed and spins down the fan to quiet mode for extended movie viewing. Just hit the button again to get things back to normal, Everex even preinstalled a system trey icon that monitors this settings statues (You might want to install it again if you blew away Vista in favor of XP).
 
Question: on battery cannot get the cpu to run faster than 800mhz. Have tried all setting that I know, any ideas?

If someone is brave enough and has 2 hd's installed and want to reinstall Vista, I'm wondering what exactly the sata raid drivers for the Xa1526 listed on the Fujitsu website would do since they are in essence identical machines.

Lastly am curious about what type of bluetooth module would fit in the space that everex has listed on their placement diagram. http://www.everex.com/support/xt500...stepnote_xt5000t_placement_diagram_bottom.pdf

iv got two of the 100gbs and have re-installed vista
but after doing some research those with the xa1526 and the latest bios were also unable to run raid...even tho theres drivers avail lol

Have you given that a try? :p

There's also the battery icon in the system tray, click on it and try the "high performance" setting, that will disable clockspeed throttling (at the cost of battery life).
 
Yeah, gave all those a try and still no go, On ac power everything is fine, but on battery it only wants to run @ 800mhz. Could someone check with cpuz and see what there's does on battery.

No matter what I do, even if it's 1mhz over, I can't get the vid card to take an OC through the Nvidia control panel with nTune installed.

Could somebody who has gotten it to work post the exact versions they are using?

Has anybody gotten the CPU to OC yet?

Man, I am having the EXACT same problem. Running Vista with the newest nTune (5.05 I think)... it will fail even at 1 MHz above stock AND when you do an Optimal Test it will drop the speed from factory 450MHz to 427MHz!!! The card is not hot at all... I think there is some software glitch here?
