also, this laptop has a "turbo button" its the fan button. it reduced cpu speed to 800mhz and drops the volts down to .8v
2 things i cant wait for though. i cant wait to kill vista and get xp loaded up on here and i cant wait for my mouse to arrive, i HATE HATE HATE stupid touchpads.
anyone tried putting as5 on this cpu and chipset yet?? this thing runs really hot...

Hi,
Hopefully we can post now without loosing the replies.....![]()
Anyhoot, with the new video drivers I'm at 5.1 for graphics and 4.9 for gaming graphics without an overclock.
With the new Chipset/SATA drivers from the Microsoft update I went from 4.3 on the HD score to 4.5, Man do I want Raid 0 and 2x7200 rpm drives.........
The cpu is stuck at 4.6, if the scale is linear and not logarythmic then a TL 60 would put me at 5.7. I don't think that is the case though.
Tried the new R169 audio drivers, they are junk. Muffled audio but at least they were stable. BTW I've found if the audio gets muffled or lost on the left speaker I can mute the speakers and then unmute and the sound comes back.
-Thanks
The wireless update from Microsofts update is a must have. Increased signal strenght and not a single drop. Yippee...........
I know the hard core people here went over to XP, sorry but I like Vista. Yes it has some growing up to do and that has been true of any MS O/S.
Norton was tossed from day 1, went with Avast. it is free and no where near the resource hog. In the day I used to swear by Norton but times have changed.
I had that same exact problem. What I did was just take off the bottom cover and prop the back of the laptop up on a book, since I never moved the laptop. That improved the airflow under there dramatically and I no longer had throttling issues. I eventually got a notebook cooler for like $10 which not only solved my problems but even gave me some overclocking headroom.

Most of the folks who are adding on less expensive coolers, are opting for what seems to be a slot-type cooler that clips on to the exhaust port on the right side of the XT5000t.and exactly which notebook cooler did you find for $10?? because i looked and couldn't really find any decent coolers for this gigantic computer. because like a lot of you i'm having the problem of it getting to 80C and throttling. Thanks
From the bottom up, you have the core of the processor, on top of that you have a copper block with a heat pipe running through it, and on top of that you have the retention bracket holding the whole assembly together.Ack, excuse me for being a notebook hardware noob, but what exactly is this retention bracket and heat pipe you speak of...

What I did was remove the retention bracket, pull the copper block/heat pipe assembly aside, and use some AS5 thermal paste in place of the thermal pad that came with the notebook. After putting the heat pipe assembly back in place over the core, I stacked a dime on top of back of the assembly, and then installed the retention bracket back on top of that. The dime makes up for the lost thickness of the thermal pad, and keeps the whole cooling assembly snug against the core.
Same here; I didn't have any kind of overheating problems before replacing the thermal paste, and I certainly don't have any problems with overheating now.i never have any throttling problems.?
