The European Commission is at it again, threatening to fine social media companies over consumer protection regulations. (Caution, link contains a video which plays automatically) This time it is over their slow response time in removing abusive, illegal, threatening or slanderous content, including content targeting users with online fraud.

While these laws seem like a good idea to me, they sometimes make me wonder how feasible this level of content policing is. We all know that enforcing content through the use of clever algorithms is anything but foolproof, and that the magic touch of a human being is usually needed. Facebook currently has 1.86 Billion users active every month, and only just over 17,000 employees. Even if all of them worked in moderating posts, that's more than 100,000 users per employee. The question is, is it even possible to hire enough people to effectively moderate a forum used by more than a quarter of the Earth's population every month?

"The authorities and the Commission sent letters to the companies in December saying that some of their service terms broke EU consumer protection law and that they needed to do more to tackle fraud and scams on their websites.

The companies proposed some ways to resolve the issues and discussed them with the authorities and the Commission on Thursday, a source familiar with the matter said, adding that the meeting was constructive."

Facebook/Google should just ignore them and see if the EU is still around after this year.
Le Pen is surging in France who is pro-Frexit, and when even the French are concerned that the Eurabia experiment has gone too far, that's saying something. "France isn't burkinis on the beach. France is Brigitte Bardot." - Marine Le Pen, 60 Minutes, 3/5/2017

If France leaves the EU as well and Italy has already expressed interest, with attempts at stoking a cold war with Russia completely failing, I don't see how it can survive. The EU's censorship and politically correct stranglehold over the media is going to fail, its just a matter of time.

Wow the far right zealots are out in force I see. I feel bad to be dragged into this but i have to address this:

Shame on you sir to make such baseless accusations. And if you want proof about how ridiculous you "censorship and politically correct stranglehold" accusations are just look at the support Charlie Hebdo (among the most politically incorrect publications there are) received from all European institutions. Both official and from the employees. Freedom of press is paramount in Europe

Oh yeah and the second Brussels attack (at the metro) was directly against EU institution employees. How do I know? My offices used to be 10 meters away from that entrance, I used that station every day.

Despite that attack I choose not to give into hate and fear, I prefer a united Europe vs the hate filled history and bloodshed we had over the centuries.

I guess when you have extremists on all sides hating you, you must be doing something good.

Oh and to be clear Le Pen , Geert Wilders and their kind are extremists and racist just with a new coat of paint.

What specifically has she said that was racist or extremist? And France does have a problem with extremism, but from Islamists. How long has it been since the last bloodshed? Doh, it was this morning, reset the counter again. Consider how much effort facebook, twitter, and google already go to downplay this stuff on their own, and yet the globalists in the EU still aren't satisfied... that's saying something.

But brown people are destroying Europe. Something needs to be done! Just ask Ducman, he knows the solution. Something about gas and chambers

The cold war had been back for at least a few years now. And the West is losing this time.

But Trump has done more damage to our relationships with allies in 2 months than the USSR could have done in a decade.

If your goal is to see the post WW2 world order crumble and the fall of America then you have to be pretty happy right now.

I'm pretty far from right wing (you can check my posts in the past), but saying that EU is doing something right because extremists hate it is hardly a justification for it. From a left perspective, I have a one-word rebuttal to the EU: Greece. Any organization that has utterly gutted a country financially the way it has with Greece has deeply flawed priorities and I don't see how it's sustainable in the long term. It's not that the EU is 100% bad, but good god, neoliberal financial policy only does friends of the central banks favors and no one else.

I actually wanted to say something about the topic, but with this level of neonazi stupidity here by some users, it's pointless - but a good example why Facebook needs to remove that crap in the EU.

What, you're not scared of all the brown people coming here to destroy our values and steal our jobs, wives and children? You need to inform yourself!!! :D

This thread isn't really about politics, though. Companies should comply with local laws. Simple as that.

Someone should inform the red-headed militant Islamists that they are brown now. Islam is an ideology and organized system of beliefs and values, not a race, and its no more racist to be against militant Islam than it is to be against the actions of the Church of Scientology. Its also ironic that many that champion censorship on the internet and justify it as "abiding by local laws" are often so dismissive of the rule of law in their own country. Resist the law, unless its a law we like against freedom of speech, in which case the law is the law... ;)

Fair enough. Just to get things straight though, how come you're against censorship and yet oppose spreading of "Islam ideology".

Because the global jihad puts the safety of women, children, homosexuals, and the public at large at risk, and Sharia Law, which the overwhelming majority of Muslims believe should be pushed for as global law, is incompatible with Western values. Even the most liberal Muslim country, Malaysia, already has Syariah courts and militant Muslims are engaged in persistent relentless attacks of the peaceful Buddhists on their Northern border for not accepting Islamic customs and way of life, with the death toll at 6,500 dead and 12,000 injured in the last ten years alone. Public political dialog and reporting of facts does not, and i dont welcome the ministry of truth, because i dont trust EU leadership to be impartial.

Ad. your first qustion: It's weird because white people in places like the UK are concerned about all the Poles and other Slavics being exported to their homelands.
Both sides of this process is worrisome to me. Humanity is sort of gathering in selected places which centralize business and industry while leaving the rest to deteriorate or become damaged through over exploitation.

Ad the second part, if companies are physically present, employing people, using utilities then - yes. Is the EU however only targetting big fish? Looks like it.

Polls for 2nd round (2 candidates with most votes advance to 2nd round - this year most likely Le Pen vs. Macron) are 60:40 for Macron.

Italian government shows absolutely no interest in leaving EU, since it would wreck their economy.

And only one responsible for revival of Cold War is Putin, with his invasion of Ukraine - which also sabotaged future efforts to eliminate nukes from other countries in exchange for security guarantees (Ukraine got such security guarantees in exchange for getting rid of their nukes in early 90s)

Cmon now... wikipedia has a massive liberal bias. Liberal outlets always skew the numbers in order to influence "herd mentality", to make people feel like if they aren't following the liberal agenda they are vulnerable and on their own and are supporting "the losers". Remember Huffington Post's US election poll results?

Liberal outlets repeated ad-nauseum that Trump was a "joke candidate with no chance of winning", along with words like "Blowout Hillary Victory Anticipated". And before that we had Brexit, and again the liberal media assured us that there was absolutely NO CHANCE of Britain leaving the EU, and that even contemplating such a thing would be disastrous to the economy. Of course this was more propaganda, and they did leave and the economy is doing better than ever before. I'll listen to who was right on both counts last time, heh.

Here we go again with the fear mongering and FUD. http://www.express.co.uk/news/polit...ls-Italy-single-currency-leave-European-Union and https://pjmedia.com/trending/2017/02/06/italy-appears-on-course-to-leave-the-eu/ and https://www.forbes.com/sites/timwor...conomist-probably-it-should-too/#7d00e26b5a18

Italy, like many other EU members, wants to ditch the Euro and get control of their own currency again, among other disagreements with their masters in Brussels over policies that affect Italians, and fact that the EU has stalled the Italian economy for almost two decades.
And only one responsible for revival of Cold War is Putin, with his invasion of Ukraine - which also sabotaged future efforts to eliminate nukes from other countries in exchange for security guarantees (Ukraine got such security guarantees in exchange for getting rid of their nukes in early 90s)
Attempting to provoke war with Russia is based on politics and an ideological/cultural battle going on in Western civilization between globalists ironically attempting to build a Western Block and nationalists that seek to bring back government under control of local populations for their benefit, citing that local people know best what works for them. Before that, as we know the Obama administration was very chummy with Putin, even letting slip his "after my election we'll have more flexibility" in talks with Russia, and Hillary giving the Russians control over 20% of our uranium capacity. The latter was only a threat recently, with the rising popularity of figures like Trump, Nigel Farage, Le Pen, etc., and likewise the political side is an obvious throwback to McCarthyism, attempting to undermine political opponents by declaring them Russian collaborators, necessary after their overwhelming defeat in all branches of government. You'll notice that they are using the same playbook on Le Pen right now for that very same reason, saying that she's some kind of Russian agent and other conspiracy theories, while giving people like Merkel, an ex-communist leader with ties to old Soviet leadership who would be far more open to such older cultural Marxist beliefs than the current Russian government, a complete pass.

Like Obama said, Militant Islam is the greatest threat, and the 1980s wants their foreign policy back when it comes to Russia:

I think you have some good points in this particular post, but you shouldn't trust one side over the other, both liberal and conservative news sources have been severely compromised on reporting facts and can often amount to propaganda on both sides. It's all partisan madness now, with both sides occasionally having some glimmers of the truth, but mostly not. I mean you quote Conservapedia, I have to say their article on The Age of the Earth certainly doesn't make it what I would call a dependable source. Their article on dinosaurs co-existing with man is another good one also.

Again, you have to fact check BOTH sides, there's so much garbage now, I haven't seen any modern source that's trustworthy as a whole.

EU be like "f Google"

For whatever reason, the EC logo is a very difficult one to photoshop together.

If you try to center everything, the odd off center C logo messes everything up. Even when my Facebook, Google and Twitter googled were perfectly geometrically aligned, they looked off. I tried to eyeball them such that they were geometrically sort of centered taking into account the wierd optical illusions going on in the EC logo, but that didn't' quite help either.

I just feel like this is one way the European Commission is laughing and giving everyone the finger :p
