Elite: Dangerous

Glad people are enjoying a space game. I can't afford the new monitor, joystick and finally the damn game to fully enjoy it yet. Planning on it though.

You guys notice that E: D is also short for erectile disfunction? Just saying. Brought to you by VIagra? Anyone? Ok. :D

Christ... you aren't missing much. I feel bad just buying a CH Pro Throttle. I'd feel bad if you bought all that stuff and you didn't like the game.

With the 5,000 positive reviews and 2,000 negative reviews, I feel vindicated.

Since page 7, I tried telling people that this was an empty shell of a broken down, rushed-out-the-door-in-time-for-Christmas, piece of shit of a game.

Now what? Nothing is what.

White Knights waving their swords like trans-gendered penis' at Mardi Gras.

Shit got weird.

I picked it up, haven't put much time into it yet though. I'm not really looking for much beyond exploration honestly. Just me my friendship drive, some floyd and the endless vista of space. Awww yissssssss.

Really want to like this game, but I can barely get through training without getting bored. Please someone talk me into playing it.

No one here will beg you or talk you in to liking this game, don't like it or getting bored move along, simple as that.

Agree with Vlad.

FWIW, I think it's a solid game but the phrase "mile wide, inch deep" comes to mind. However, it's out and functional and being updated regularly to introduce new features / functionality.

Personally, I think it's miles better than the disparate mess of modules that is SC (in its current form).

I wish I could... but I feel the same as you & never even finished the "training" crap.

I then went to youtube & watched some gameplay & decided... it's pretty, but not for me.

Even if elite isn't your thing .... It still beats the pants off star citizen currently

I used to play a game called Space Rogue, a hybrid space-sim/RPG. (Ultima meets Elite) Back in the pre-MIDI / SoundBlaster days, games didn't have any music; so I always had some space-opera soundtrack or classical music playing in the background. And I'm playing Elite Dangerous the exact same way. The only difference is I have a much larger playlist to choose from. :D

One of my wishlist requests to FDev was a in-game music player built in the ship UI. (much like GTA's radio) I've heard FDev's ED soundtrack and it's good- but I really enjoy the game with my personal soundtrack in there.

That would be pretty sweet. Though I find ED to be the kind of game you play while doing something else (i.e. watching TV shows on Netflix and the like).

Obviously that doesn't apply to dog-fighting or CQC.

The game is most def not for everybody. I love it, and literally all I have done is explore.

I logged in again, flew around to my favorite High Intensity RES zone. Was racking up the kills as normal, until some ungodly stupid AI bot zips in front of my ship as I'm engaging some wanted NPCs. I get a 400credit bounty then immediately gang-banged by the federals in the zone. Nevermind the NPC with the 90k bounty, but that dude with the 400? GET HIM!!! Lost 2.6million in lost bounty and rebuy costs. I swore they fixed that "accidental bounty" crap..... Got fed up, rage-quit. Same old stuff.....

Games had music before soundblaster. I still remember the sweet serenades coming from my 386 PC speaker.

Hello, I just picked up this game a couple of days ago and was wondering what would be the best controller to use with what I have. kb/m, steam controller, logitech xtreme3d joystick, or generic gamepad. Thanks for any pro's and cons associated the the peripherals mentioned. Ryan

That's an excellent question. I snagged it myself for $14 on the sale. Haven't played yet, but I look forward to trying it on my ultrawide Dell when it comes in later this week. :D

use your joystick

i do recommend getting a CH pro throttle if you like the game

if you dont have a stick the Thrustmaster T-16000M is 40 bucks

Been using a 360 pad since it came out, don't have the room for a giant setup. Gonna give a steam controller a go this weekend.

Oddly enough I find myself enjoying Elite more since I got my sit/stand desk.

Joystick/Keyboard with voice attack mod. SO you can tell your ship to lower gear, initiate jump and so on. Feels more immersive.

You really cannot play the game very well without some sort of controller. The key is analog inputs. Any modern gamepad or HOTAS/Stick works fine. You have to play with the bindings to get it how you want it, but they all work. I use a 360 and Steam controller and they both work fine. Pitch+yaw on left stick, roll on the right.

imo voice commands is less immersive and unreliable how hard is it hit a key

ick

yaw on the stick with pitch? WHY yaw is awful in this game you want pitch and roll on the same stick LIKE EVERY FUCKING AIRCRAFT AND SPACECRAFT EVER

I dove in during the after Thanksgiving Steam sale and am playing with mouse and keyboard right now. I did put yaw on the mouse and put roll on A & D. Seems to play better that way coming form an FPS background. If I go to storage and dig out my old Thrustmaster Stick, I'll switch roll to the stick and pitch back to A & D.

This what Freelancer should have been after the single player campaign was finished. Still debating if I want to upgrade to Horizons.

I like to roll with right and pitch with left. Its very quick.

LOL!
I have pitch/roll on the stick, yaw on rudder pedals, lateral thrusters on the throttle hat.

Haven't pulled the trigger on Horizons either- Eveything else is taking a backseat to playing on the Link.

I don't have the space for a good HOTAS setup. [jealous]

there are some smaller setups a CH throttle and Thrust master T16000 work well and dont take much space

I don't even have that much space. Its all good, I am using a steam controller and it works perfect.

Schiz,

hope you're sharing your ED Steam Controller config with the community, would love to give it a whirl. (gaming on the couch instead of my gaming rig desk is so damn addictive!)

Oh I will, once I can get a Horizons Steam key. It wasn't letting me generate one last night, so I was back to my 360 controller. Once I get that I will drop my config and post the name here. The controller is really made for this kind of game. I know they always show people playing CivV with it, but F that. I did try using the Gyro, but it made the whole thing kinda crazy. I just want relax and explore, not roll around the room. :D

My Steam controller conf name is "schizrade [H] bind" Dual sticks like a 360 controller, joystick for dpad.

Protip: Make sure you bind your vetical thruster axis to the right pad.... just slammed into a planet. lmao. Thank god for insurance.

Ok, I've been missing this whole build up to Horizons release, but recently got ready by updating voice attack, installing a voice pack, updating my HOTAS and TrackIR drivers and now come release I need a new launcher, WTF?!? Can someone explain to me why there is a separate launcher for what is suppose to be just gated content.
