Considering the Length of my opinion I would not bother if the game was shit. SO TLDR: What the game seeks to achieve it achieves VERY WELL. Its not a look at the pretty colors game but Watch me chop this zombies head off then jump over this zombie tackle this one slide kick this one into an imediat leg slice with my sword then stand up run up a building jump from 4 stories roll and do it all over again. The combat is so fucking fluid it makes the game.
My honest opinion. The game Doesnt look all that great. Its satisfying enough though so this is a minor point. One good thing It looks like the trailers do.
The lighting in the game is amazing. Considering that the entire game is based on the light cycle It should be. The Dusk looks like dusk the dawn looks like dawn and the night is dark as shit.
The Volatles, or "nightmares" as they are called by the scouts (other npc "runners" like you) are killable. I chased one just as it started turning into day to see if i could kill it at lvl 7 or so and was able to after about 20 hits. Once you get to old town and get some serious damage items I was able to kill them in about 3-5 hits with a 700dmg machete.
NIght time is Incredibly fun and entertaining. at low levels it is very difficult to manage but gets esier as the game progresses.
The final boss fight is a Quck Time Event. and incredibly disappointing. and Considering the fact that other "boss" fights are not makes it seem like it is just to piss us off.
The missions become a chore towards the end. Actual story content was a sort of side note to the game. Im assuming due to the massive detail in the night system and climbing mechanics
Climbing mechanics are great and I would say 98% of the environment is climbable. However when you reach those areas where certain objects you could climb in other parts of the game are not climbable at that one spot it gets kind of annoying.
With that being said Its a minor nitpick and That best part is the "parkour" well other than the zombie dismemberment.
The first time i sliced a zombie in half FROM TOP TO BOTTOM!!! I was sold I literally pulled out my sword and swipe he seperated into two pieces with one half of his body on one side and the other half on the other side of me. Then another runner game at me and SWOOSH there goes his head. He walks around for a moment with blood spewing out of his head. So good.
There are MASSIVE packs of zombies that are really fun to wipe out and provide great loot. The powerstation has a horde of close to 150 to 200 zombies. I lost count after about 70.
There are fast moving zombies as well and the game does a great job at the beginning of making it not worth the trouble to fight them. In the beginning stages Causing things to blow up or using a weapon. Alerts them and the come running. So you run. They can take out half your health in one hit if you are caught of guard.
All in all if you are looking for a good zombie killing game that has an amazing climbing mechanic this is great. Most of the buildings If not all of them are accesable. Some require ways for you to reach them.
Some have said that the Hookshot takes away from the parkour element but I disagree. You unlock a hookshot that lets you travel great distances. There is a slight cool down so it is not spammable if you are trying to escape so use those 2 charges wisely. The volatles can cancel the hookshot if you they hit you which adds to the fear of night.
The game is not super long but Its hard to really tell due to the fact that I played the game for hours on end.
The crafting is very well done. Not having to repair/ create at a workbench is a plus. There are a lot of
The blueprints seem to give the weapons a different look. Every weapon has its own feel to it so every shock blueprint doesnt just add a batterypack and wires. There are also blueprints with 2 effects that give an even greater variety to the blueprint upgrades.
Dont waste your upgrades on weapons. They become more scarce once the game goes on.
One other thing NICK PESTO! Look out for him in the trunk of a car. Hes hilarious.I want him to follow me around the whole game.
