Delayed by a Month new release date is June 10th there is a ton of games coming out in May might be a good thing.
They might be worried about Doom

A couple of streamers I watch have been playing the early invite only test and they seem very positive about it. Encouraging at least.

There is a Character Creator and Benchmark Demo for the game. I'll check it out later today the Forums seem pretty active around the game so it must not be good.

I tried the character creator and the Benchmark not really blow away by either but the gameplay might be good.

"Dune Awakening Beta: What To Expect

After a series of promising closed beta sessions, Funcom is opening the gates to the public with a large-scale Open Beta, running from May 9 to May 12.

Here’s when it all kicks off and when it wraps up:

Beta Start Times:
North America: 8:00 AM EDT / 5:00 AM PDT
South America: 9:00 BRT
Europe: 14:00 CEST
Asia: 20:00 CST / 21:00 JST
Beta End Times:
North America: 5:59 PM EDT / 2:59 PM PDT
South America: 18:59 BRT
Europe: 23:59 CEST
Asia: 5:59 CST / 6:59 JST

Players will get access to 20–25 hours of content featuring most of Act 1. You’ll be able to create your character, crash-land on Arrakis with your sandbike, and go on a survival-driven journey through the Hagga Basin south region.

Expect:

PvE-focused gameplay as you battle sandworms, avoid deadly heatwaves, and fight off roaming bandits.
A shared world experience where other players are also trying to survive alongside you.
A few small PvP-enabled zones, according to the official beta FAQ, if you’re looking for a bit more danger.

For fans wondering about the timeline and characters, no Paul Atreides is not in the game. Instead, the story branches in a unique direction with Lady Jessica having a daughter, and Duke Leto is still alive. It’s a smart move that lets the game carve its own identity while still staying within the Dune universe."

So far im enjoying it. I was worried this would be a clone of Conan Exiles. But, I will say I can totally see the elements of Conan Exiles, its a GOOD thing though...

Gotta keep playing.

Edit: Looks like its 3rd person view only? Ill do some more digging

Be nice if they'd sent me a key. Requested access months ago. Apparently now if you pre-order any version of the game it will get you a beta key. That or watch streamers and account link. Typical goofy and incompetent Funcom.

According to the Steam forums, many who had pre-ordered decided to cancel pre-orders such that Steam was claiming there was a delay due to heavy requests for cancelations.

Increase Your Chances Of Getting In The Beta

Although this is a much larger beta than the earlier closed tests, space is still limited. There are however, multiple ways to increase your odds of scoring a beta invite:

  • Wishlist and request access on the Dune: Awakening Steam page
  • Sign up with your email on the official website
  • Grab a code during the Global LAN Party Broadcast on May 10 – Tune in on Twitch to snag one of tens of thousands of codes being given away

Chances are, you’ve already ticked off the first or second. If not, now’s the time to do both then mark your calendar for tomorrow’s stream. Do all three and you’re one step closer to Arrakis this weekend.

The graphics settings are very customizable. I ended up going with no frame gen (only fsr3 avail given gpu), dlss on balanced and medium settings turned off global illumination automatically. Turning on vsync and frame capping at 60 seemed to keep things fairly stable at 60fps most of the time besides cutscenes and the trial mission. Technically the 4790k is under spec, they want a min cpu of a i5 7500 or a ryzen 3 1200.

From the beta, a sandworm showing itself:

I'm excited for this, but one thing that has been nagging at me...Who are the people you fight? Are all the different houses smashed together on Arrakis? None of the videos I watched awhile ago really got into the combat very much.

So far in the beta it was mostly scavangers and you can take jobs for each of the houses.

All the different Reps and houses and quests etc etc were not in this beta. This was literally about 15-20 hours of gameplay. You only had access to the first tier of crafting (iron).

So, all you saw were scavengers. Now, you could join a house when you got to the second vendor/base you find. I never did choose a house to join as I was just fucking around with building since we only got 3 days.

All in all, this was a very limited beta. We werent even close to anything end game at all.

I'm not sure if I have time for this game so I might skip it Base Building ect...

I'm getting it. I enjoyed the beta. Though, like DayZ, it's best to play with people to build a base and keep things going.

The "dedicated" server is an interesting development. Cynical me says Funcom didn't like what they saw in the Beta on server strain or costs. It seems rather limited in its control options for now but it could be a good thing. I may end up trying to run one since I have a server with one of the hosting companies offering it.

Funcom has released updated system requirements.

Private servers info has also been released.

Private Servers Announced
Private servers are coming and here’s how they will work.
Greetings soon-to-be-awakened,

Today, just about 72 hours before the floodgates open, we can finally share with you that rentable private servers will be available from head start launch on June 5th!

We’ve previously communicated that private servers are for post-launch, but we’re happy to share that progress has been faster than expected.

We do, however, want to manage expectations about how private servers work in Dune: Awakening. As you know, this is not your typical survival game.

Why private servers work differently in Dune: Awakening

Dune: Awakening is powered by a unique server and world structure, something we went in-depth on in a recent blog post.

In short: each server belongs to a World consisting of several other servers, and each of those share the same social hubs and Deep Desert. This allows us to retain a neighborhood-like feel to the Hagga Basin and provide persistent, freeform building, and other server-demanding mechanics you typically see in survival games. We combine this with the large-scale multiplayer mechanics you would expect to find in MMOs where hundreds of players meet each other in social hubs and the Deep Desert to engage in social activities, trade, conflict, and more.

Naturally, transferring this setup to a private server model has not been trivial.

We decided early on that we did not want to remove the large-scale multiplayer aspects of the game as that is such a crucial part of the Dune: Awakening experience, and the game’s content and mechanics are deeply rooted in this setup.

It was simply never an option for us to release “half a game” for private servers.

We knew we had to come up with a solution that retained the fundamental MMO-like features that make Dune: Awakening so unique, while still giving players some control, perhaps most importantly over who has access to their server.

That meant we had to make some concessions in terms of how much control players have over their private servers. The result is a model where you have fewer settings available than you would in some other survival games such as Conan Exiles.

We want to be completely clear and upfront about that so you can make an informed decision as to whether it’s worth it for you and your friends to rent a private server.

How private servers work

When you rent a private server, you essentially rent a server containing one Hagga Basin, just like the official servers. Here you have the full Hagga Basin map, and you can do everything you would do on an official server.

Your private server will belong to a World consisting of other private servers, and you can choose a World for your private server when you rent yours from a provider.

That means that you will still be able to take full advantage of Dune: Awakening’s large-scale multiplayer content and mechanics, including visiting the social hubs and the Deep Desert, to meet and play with people from any private server in the same World.

Players do not rent or control social hubs nor the Deep Desert. These are provided by the server hosting company, who ensures each private server’s World has them.

Private server settings

So, what settings will be available for your private server?

Because your private server will belong to a World of other private servers, and you will be meeting and playing with other people in the social hubs and the Deep Desert, you won’t be able to control every aspect of how your private server works.

Which settings you can configure for your server is ultimately up to the third-party server provider, but these are the settings we are making available:

  • Security Zones: you can disable security zones entirely, making all parts of Hagga Basin PvP enabled, or you can choose to have pockets of PvP like on official servers
  • Taxation: you can disable taxation on your server
  • Sandstorms: you can disable sandstorms, making them not appear on your server

You will also be able to name your server and set a password for it.

Please note that private servers do not have an admin control panel nor character transfers presently. We will evaluate this functionality post-launch.

Visiting other private servers

Just like how you can visit another server in your World when playing on official servers, you can do the same with private servers.

All you need to do is select the other server in the server selection menu and put in the server’s password when prompted. You can take with you everything on your character, and you are free to do anything you would like on the server. You can even claim land, something you can’t do when visiting official servers.

When you arrive on the other server, you will appear at Griffin’s Reach trade post.

How to rent a private server

To rent a server, all you need to do is visit one of the server providers that offer private servers for Dune: Awakening (in alphabetical order):

Please note that this service is managed by the hosting companies themselves. If you need any technical support or other assistance, you will need to contact them directly.

Funcom does not set the prices for private server rental.

Closing words

We look forward to your feedback on private servers and going forward we will evaluate opportunities to expand their functionality and rulesets.

Enabling private servers for Dune: Awakening has not been trivial considering our unique large-scale multiplayer setup, and it was important to us to retain the fundamental MMO-like gameplay that makes Dune: Awakening so unique. That means it does come with some restrictions on how you can configure them compared to some other survival games such as Conan Exiles.

But we hope that this service will still be meaningful to those of you who prefer to play on servers you do not have to share with others, and we hope that the shared World structure will add an extra dimension without taking away from the unique content and mechanics that makes Dune: Awakening what it is.

And hey, if you want a PvP free-for-all Hagga Basin without those pesky taxes and sandstorms, while also being able to invite select other people or even open up completely for strangers to come visit and claim land on your home turf – now you can!

Whether you choose to play on official or private servers: see you on Arrakis soon, Sleepers!

Game launches 5 days if reviews are good I'll try it. Looks like Planetside 2.
Kind of like a better more up-to-date Planetside 2 (which is still fun to play), with a blend of Conan Exiles, which I also enjoyed.

Pre load is already up for those who bought deluxe etc. versions. Access starts tomorrow. 7am PST/10am EST
I have a feeling that the servers are going to be overloaded, and there will be a lot of bugs. I'm okay with waiting a week or two... or even longer if the initial reports are really bad.

I didn't encounter any bugs during the beta weekend. Didn't see any mentioned in their discord during the beta either. Game ran well.

We'll see. They have 5 days of early access to see how things go and ramp up if needed. WIth semi-private servers, it might be ok and not overloaded.

Most beta playtest versions are multiple builds behind the release version, typically the most stable version that lacks a lot of features, and mainly trying to test for server/network/hardware component stability. Maybe things have changed since I've been in the gaming development world, but that's how it usually was.

Whelp, I'm in. Bunch of people at work and other friends are forming up to play. I haven't purchased a full price game for quite some time and most anything I can play with friends I'm willing to try.

Ouch, 39% of 114, Mostly Negative. Never buy early, folks?
I mean its been working great for me. 90% of the problem is Nvidia drivers since they JUST released a hotfix to fix the crashing for Dune awakening.

Now I do have 1 major complaint....Developers need to stop HARD CODING keybinds. Why they cant fucking figure this out is beyond me, why I never played Once Human.

I mean shit Tainted Grail I went to try out, only to find out keys were hardcoded lol...Instant refund.

Is there a config file where you can change them?
