Yup!..a mouse pad will be created to match the case--it will be a sort of command center as well--power/reset buttons, sound effect control and animatronic control. The mousing surface will utilize the second pentacle laser etch that was made for the case window. I'm thinking this mouse pad console will be just as much a diorama as the rest of the case, with its own theme. Thanks for the patience, this is a very challenging case mod and requires a lot of time for me to complete :D Thanks to all for the support thus far and for sticking by me!

You can bet come hell or high water--this case will be at QuakeCon 2005.

i love this case and wow ont the mouse pad never thought about something like that before that is crazy, and the people @ Quake Con are gonna Fucking flip when they see this beast roll in and eat them! lol i cant wait to see more.

BTW when is quakecon? jw

i love the some machine that is just crazy.

when i first saw this case 4 weeks back i was like i want this man to adopt me. lol
keep it up man

hey man, any chance you might post a quick tut on the spraying of the mouse too, when you get a quiet moment? You know - all the materials & techniques used? Onyl i'm looking to do this to a 510 myself, but don't have any idea how to, and that thing looks spiffy

my 2 cents:

You can bet come hell or high water--this case will be the best at QuakeCon 2005.

where did you find an image of the pentagram from the game i googled and found nothing im thinking of stealing that idea cause it look so damn pimp and i like it alot jw thanks

The pentagram is in the game - the mod tools out there can probably extract it for you.

For info around the pentagram, you can search the thread - or go back to post 422 or so.

What happened to this case mod? It's been five weeks since the worklog was updated, and almost two weeks since this thread has seen action... Did he just give up on it? or just not posting updates?

Wasn't this thread just locked? I just checked it this morning and my jaw hit the floor when I saw the mouse and was disappointed when I couldn't reply.

That mouse is just insane. I kind of want to repaint my MX1000 now.

You were probably looking at the update thread, not the comments thread.

I figured as much. Just thought a little demand might bring some long awaited updates ;)

Time to finish this beast of a mod in time for QuakeCon. I'll post some pics soon of recent progres. Meanwhile, enjoy a short video I shot of a friend helping test the hardware. I screwed up and forgot a part, but as soon as it comes I'll shoot the full video.

lol it took you that long to install your video cards? lmao....

amazing work so far, just wish that the case was done when Doom3 was still cool, J/K hahahaha

really man that is awesome.

Paul was the guy with the camera, not the guy installing the hardware. Didn't you read the credits?

Once again, incredible work, with incredible hardware. The only thing that could make it better right now would be to get those pathetic 6800Us replaced with 2 7800GTXs, watercooled of course :D.

I finally have time to finish this monster of a case so lets get to it!

Plenty of details need to be added to the side panels, so I began filling in the sparse areas with some Plastruct architectural pieces and some parts from my scrap bin. I also have a chance now to try out the new Iwata Eclipse airbrush I bought last week. Should be a decent upgrade to the Passche workhorse I have been using for years.

If any of you out there want to see some airbrushing action, I can shoot some video--Let me know.

Small (1/4" NPT) copper elbow was used here:

This area will take lots of hand painting and airbrushing as you can see. The magic is in the details:

Yeah that HDD is prolly pretty fast --FYI Mashie was visiting the US for the Million Man Lan party we attended last week and was kind enough to help out in the shop installing the hardware and OS for the project--Thanks Mashie!

OMG,Mars City, Your Back!
Crimson I was worried you wouldn't finish this mod!
Ooooh
Update goodness!
Glad to see that you are working on this MOD again Crim.
Keep it coming! :)

please finish this mod NOW ! j/k

glad to see some more progress!!

Though I'm still kinda worried that Quake 4 may be out before the mod is completed.... and then everyone will have forgotten about "that old Doom 3 game"!!

NEVER would Crimson just give up on a project like this!
Cause he knows we would all kill him! :D

Adding just the right amount of detail is really important when scratchbuilding and kitbashing on a project like this. It's easy to add too much detail, creating a confusing pallet of shapes that simply adds confusion to the overall look. Picking the right parts for kitbashing comes from lots of trial, error and experience, and literally hundreds of rejected parts and configurations pile up before I commit to gluing them on. Even then I may rip pieces off if it doesn't seem to fit later on as the work progresses.

Tamiya models are among the very best kits you can buy. The detail is amazing, and the quality of their molds are unsurpassed for producing clean, crisp injection molded parts. Although pricey, these kits have been used for kitbashing by master model makers for years--even back to the first Star Wars. If you come across any production shots of the ILM (Industrial Light & Magic)model shop, you'll be sure to find dozens of boxes of Tamiya military kits in the background.

I notice you have an actual keylock/keyswitch in the box on the upper right. What's that going to?

heh---thats just a chrome wheel cover from a car model :D

Ah. I figured it was an artfully hidden power/reset switch. Guess not. ;)

Its impressive how you can take something like a model kit, take the parts you want and turn it into something that you would never imagin could be made from the parts used.

Your skill is amazing!

Anyone know if the 77.72 drivers allow for dual monitors in SLi mode?. I hope I dont get screwed trying to run that 7" front panel LCD  Wonder if the Vivo cable will work if they dont get these drivers out in time to finish this case--gah

heh--so I can listen to an hour of muzak, and afterwards some Twinkie eater tells me to unplug/plug my PC and then wait 10 seconds and reboot to see if it fixes my problem? :D

meh anyways I'm sure Vivo doesnt even work with SLi due to the nature of the setup--I'll have to find an alternative means to get video on that touch screen LCD I have.
