You're dead to me.

Eh, I liked the first 2 Hitman games far more than the rest.

Dishonored looks like it could be a classic.

Dishonored and XCOM are the only games I'm really excited for this year. I'm sure I'll play the others but I'm in no hurry to.

This game will kick mother-effing ass.

Y'dig?

You're preaching to the choir, brother.

I think Dishonored is going to be a top game for 2012 as well, though. Could seriously be on GOTY shortlists. I'm really looking forward to it.

Assassin's Creed 3. Borderlands 2. Damn, lots of good games coming out.

the first couple assassins creed i played and i was like this is super tight... but it got boring about half way through.

assassins creed 3 though?!?!?! i saw a video and it was you as a captain of a ship and you had to like battle other ships with cannons it was easily the most bad ass thing ever.

not to mention the time period is one of my favorite in our history

It looks bad ass. Revelations felt somewhat obligatory. I loved 2 and Brotherhood. If 3 gives us the same kind of leap over 2 that 2 gave us over 1 we're all in for a real treat methinks. It really looks good from all the media we've had out there thus far.

I usually get yelled at to keep it on-topic, but you guys are taking it to a whole different level haha.

I want the new AC too, fyi.

Lemme see how I can get this back on topic...

Can't tell if this is an article that's going to grow as the day unfolds or what but there's some interesting tidbits in there.

A few other odds'n'ends.

Nice home site. See the map at the top there? That's making me wonder (and getting hopeful) about how big this game might be and how much freedom I'm hoping the player gets.

Dishonored has sort of rattled up to the pointy end of my most anticipated games of the year, without me really being aware of it. This interview affirms that interest. Speaking to Games Industry Internation, Arkane’s lead designer Harvey Smith discussed what he expects from Dishonored, and his own idea of what a first person game should be.

“Raphael Colantonio is my co-creative director on this project,” began Harvey. “He and I came together four years ago and we both have this strong philosophy around these first-person action games. They are not first-person shooters; they are first-person games with depth. First-person action games are very immersive; they are from your perspective and they mix simulation, stealth and storytelling.

“It is all about player freedom. We never want to make a game that is a linear canyon where you start here in this canyon, you can’t go left or right. You see lots of pretty scenery, but you always arrive at the end. We never want to make that game. We want to make a game where you can go behind the building, go on the roof, swim in the river and come in through the sewer drain and come up with a fish.”

While Smith wasn’t dismissive of more scripted, linear games like Uncharted or Call of Duty, it’s not the kind of game he, or his team, seem interested in making.

“Specifically, we like games that are authored in such a way that they are systems,” said Harvey. “They aren’t just a shooting gallery with scripted pop-ups for the player. So that made it all easy to come together. That’s really our goal with Dishonored; to empower the player so the player can play creatively. It requires more on the part of the player; these games don’t play themselves.”

It’s a really fascinating interview, well worth reading the entire thing.

Awesome!

Whaaaat? What about the new Hitman?

Well to be honest I haven't played the series or checked out this new one. It was always on my "to do" list of games but never got there sadly. I'll be keeping on eye on this new one for sure.

If you don't play it, you're doing yourself a disservice. :) Seriously.

This studio certainly seems like one of the few who have good ideas and isn't afraid to think outside the box.

Honestly, names don't mean shit anymore. All I count on now is whether or not the game I saw IN PERSON, is great or not.

Haters gon' hate.

Just kiddin'. ;)

Agree with sentiment in general but I daresay: If this thing screws the pooch it's going to be dowright shocking and unforgivable to a lot of people including myself.

I don't think that's going to happen. :)

Exactly.

Well it's true. It doesn't matter if Steven Spielberg directed the game, or if Gary Busey did, it'll still come down to how it plays in the end. Granted Spielberg vs Busey is a moronic argument, but desperate times call for yada yada etc.

You make me want a game with Gary Busey in it by Gary Busey.

You should be banned for such a transgression.

BANHAMMER.

It really does.

I know hate and negativity are an art form around here for some, but...c'mon folks. Time to let the hate go and admit we've got a good and possibly great gaming coming our way here.

Look at that thing. Look at everything we've documented in this thread that guarantees the PC version is not getting shortchanged or the quickie port special as well.

There's NO way this game is going to suck. I feel confident making that prediction at least although I personally can see this making people's GOTY shortlist IF everything lives up to billing.

If it doesn't play like a COD shooter, then it's going to suck.

(JOKING!) I haven't been looking at the videos much, but from the little I've seen... it looks like it has very great potential. Hopefully industry changing in effect.

I agree with you, it looks awesome. But here's that thing that's creeping in the back of my head: I was excited as shit for Battlefield 3, and it kind of feels like a let down in some areas. I was excited as HELL for Rage, and that stunk more than a fresh horse turd. I think we can say that it looks awesome, but HOPEFULLY it plays awesome.

Fair enough. I like our odds here, though.

With Rage, enough people didn't pay attention to the months of coverage leading up to the game's release where ALL they talked about was "console this, console that" and nothing else. So I went into that thing with far lower expectations than some other people did. I think you could tell by the volumes of hate and anger who had higher expectations than others.

BF3? It's a solid FPS. Fun to play but there was some hype going on leading into that which was borderline unrealistic. There were also enough warning signs leading into that thing that clearly indicated it was going to be more of a "Bad Company 2 on steroids in much larger areas" vs "Wow, this is THE next Battlefield game!" with all that entails. BF veterans can harp for pages on exactly what that means.

With this game? Sure...I never go in blind but *knocks on wood* so far these guys are sending me all the right messages.

Can't ever have an awesome game without some utter nonsense to go with it? (unless this is CD Project)

Pretty much. It isn't that big a deal.

The vast bulk of any of these preorder gimmicks is fluff and throwaway items anyways.

throw away EZ mode button stuff is one thing, but if there are basic gameplay mechanics with their own animations then that is pushing the limit. Quick Dodge seems to come close to that limit, but yeah it all seems to be EZ mode fluff. Still that cuts a little too close. I'd hate to see a dev go a step further in that direction in this industry.

"Tired of mind numbing mouse clicking? Buy from here and you get this cool new riposte move"

If those abilities are DLC-exclusive then that's a load of horseshit. If it's all stuff you can unlock eventually in-game, then whatever.

I want to say you can't ever get those abilities, which is why they're exclusives. I hope I'm wrong, because it'll be the first reason to not support them if it's true.
