Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

Hardcore PVP would be insane.

What would be more insane is a PVP tournament with a 1,000,000 gold entrance fee and all the gear goes to the winner. So if 50 players join the winner gets the gear of all 50 players and 50,000,000 gold. Shit would get crazy.

Wonder how many people will return to the game after the PVP patch goes live? If you die in PVP on a hardcore character do you lose your character? If you did it would be worth adding a Roman Arena spectator mode to it. I'd pay a million gold for a front row camera of it. :)

I quit playing the actual game within a month of release (though I played the AH for two months afterwards), and I'm probably going to install it again to check out the PVP patch. I am still pretty bummed knowing it won't be like D2's PVP (toggle hostility and run out to the blood moor, or toggle hostility and take a portal to go gank someone), but I knew that when I purchased the game. I know there are quite a bit of positive things they've done since the game was released as well. Seems like a good time to check out the game after several months hiatus; if I still don't enjoy it, I'll wait some more - no biggie.

Unfortunately it wouldn't happen, especially since blizzard said they're not going to redesign classes around balanced pvp. They may tweak, but I don't see anything close to full pvp balance in d3. Then will come all the babies that will bitch and moan about RMAH blah blah blah. I don't see any unique gear or good rewards for pvp

What I see them doing is a point reward system, some for participation, some for performance, some for winning. Then exchanging those points for exp,MF,gf, speed boosts in PVE for a limited time.

I'd be surprised if they did that much, honestly. I figure they'll just let us fight eachother like WoW arenas in 2v2, 3v3, 4v4. I hope they include 1v1. Extra points for them if they put in CTF or other game modes.

All the shit I've found since Saturday (10th) afternoon till Monday morning (minus the Mempo of Twilight)

All but 4 or 5 are are Brimstones

I hope I find them as regularly as I did during those 2 days after the downtime today

Anyone want to farm keys/ubers with me? I need to build a few to get the bonus exp for paragon farming :*(

I have like 3-4 keys of terror but nothing else.

I'll add you.. I have 2 machines right now and one away from three infernals

My BattleTag is DeucesWild#1948. I'm a Paragon 21 DH, what are you?

i find my self not doing shit because of this downtime...fuck it im going to the gym.

I could of sworn that the Portals weren't random at first. You'd move your mouse over which uber you wanted to fight......Now they are Semi Random with Kool getting opened first 80% of the time.......I have 4 eyes 1 fang 0 spines.

For once I'd like Skeleton king to Open first so I can get a Spine then GTFO.

lvl 15 monk. I'm pretty sure I can survive upper level MPs with some gear swaps (aka, a fuck ton of LoH :p) But DPS wise I'm at about 95k buffed, 100k+ if I use Faith in the Light.

Well the extended maintenance cut down on my leveling. I wanted to be 56 tonight. I dunno if I'll commit to grinding out two levels. Maybe I'll grind 54-55, which is still 85 million XP.

On a side note, I think I'll stop upgrading my gear for a while and just save up. Spent 20 million on a fist weapon upgrade that netted 6.3k damage. The rest of the upgrades will cost a lot more down the line. I also bought new boots which gave 1.5k damage, a bit more resist, and a tiny bit more armor. 135.9k unbuffed damage. 156k with Blazing Wrath. I could upgrade my gems for 3000 more damage, but don't want to spend 100 million on 5 emeralds.

Did a few runs with someone from [H] that added me in game. I told the guy how I always find Gladiator Gauntlets but that today had been unusual since I hadn't found any. I told him I was gonna find two before the night was over. The next game one of them dropped. Then a second one dropped 4 games later after he left. lol

I hate those bloody things.

I notice there must be a growing amount of fiery brimstones in everyone's inventory now, but does anyone actually have a recipe to use them for?

I have the Sages recipe

Is the Auction House messed up? I sold something on the GAH yesterday and I have the processing thing like it was sold on the RMAH and haven't got the gold for it. It just shows the red exclamation point and no value

Currently have 55mil for my wizard. Must...hold....out.....for.......good......LS......Skorn......

I hope LS is as good as I want it to be. A 5% scorn when my electrocute crits for at least 100k is like 1000LoH, returning about 125 per hit (electrocute hits up to 3 targets and strikes at double my attack speed) in inferno. My beam in archon mode hits for 200-400k per tick (2ticks/second) and hits unlimited targets. After a new weapon, Innas pants for IAS and movement speed so I can cheaply replace my laccuni bracers for a cheaper int/crit bracers and maintain 24% speed

Harkamus, thanks for the monk build tips. Changing over to yours from my random one made all the difference; I'm at about 47k DPS buffed and MP3 isn't much of a problem at all.

Not a problem. I seem to be in the minority for using Dashing Strike though. Most monks use Blinding Light with the damage rune for a bit more burst. I like Dashing.

If that's the one that teleports you to the next mob, i can see why. You move through maps like crazy.

Ah, I did go with blinding light actually. Maybe I'll try dashing for a run. I'm still working on my first playthrough of inferno, haven't had much gaming time lately.

They're all viable builds.

However, when you're on an elite with molten and jailer and only have one elite monster left that happened to be just out of range of the Thunderclap teleport component, while you're jailed standing under molten lava, Dashing Strike is the difference between living and having to run back. It's just become so paramount to my survival that I can't take it off the skill bar.

Plus the whole swift and agile monk thing makes Dashing a lot more appealing to me. It's the same reason I refuse to use anything but fist weapons. :p

I have never seen my xp bar fill up so quickly before running with Harkamus

Whenever you want, just look me up. I'll do runs. It's a break from solo grinding paragon, though that's still the most efficient XP for me.

See that's the reason i haven't hooked up with you more... i knew from the first run we did that i was holding you back. I even went and got my 24% movement speed and you still blow way past me =P

I have been playing way less lately, though. When i get back in, i'll definitely look you up.

If you don't mind me jumping in on a run, I'd be interested to see how you do it. I'm Spazm#1118 on B.net.

Will look you up now.

It's not a problem at all. The way I see it is that if I take breaks from grinding paragon, I won't get burned out.

Also, the only reason I move around so much and as fast as I can is because I try not to get my Sweeping Wind to die out. Between Mantra spamming and keeping up Breath of Heaven damage buff, I often don't have enough spirit to start a fight with Sweeping Wind up if it dies down. That means I have to build up spirit first, but more importantly, I'm left a bit more vulnerable without my torrent of tornados. The tornados leech life and make mobs hit for 20% less damage because of the monk Resolve passive. It's why I secretly hate when people break destructibles if I play multiplayer games where I'm leading. I use them to refresh my Sweeping Wind. Other monks doing this is fine. I imagine they're doing it for the same purpose.

Someone please enlighten me if returning to this game is worth it or not. I've beaten the first "2 out of 4" difficulties way back when it was released, and quit for whatever reason. Any real incentive with all the patches and changes...? There's got to be a reason why so many of you are still discussing/playing this game.

In a little bit of a feud with a friend about this and Torchlight 2. He recently went back to D3 and is addicted to it. We played TL2 and admitted it was a far better game overall, yet he's back in D3 daily. Wondering why the sudden change of heart heh.

Seven Sided Strike is good for this too. You have to worry about recast but it also makes you immune for a few seconds, doesn't reflect (this is huge for me, especially since you still get life steal), and does a ton of damage.

I hate long cooldowns. I used SSS for a long time as another invuln. At some point I'll prob revisit SSS. When my damage approachs 200k unbuffed, I may give up on Breath of Heaven. The heal is useless in most cases. Really it's only for the 15% damage buff. But when you're at 200k damage, will you really notice 15%? I notice it now, but I'm only at 136k unbuffed.

At the end of the day it's a carrot on the stick approach. I'm ashamed to admit that I like carrots (loot). The incentive for me to play is to deck out my guy and make him as powerful and tanklike as possible. I suspect a lot of us are doing similar because PVP is on the horizon. It'll be interesting to see how builds do in player versus player. I quit, rather took a long hiatus, from 1.0.3 until 1.0.5. I had two 60s at that point, but could only make money farming gold since drops were scarce and usually worthless. 1.0.4 redid itemization (good thing). 1.0.5 increased drop rates and also made items below 58 not drop in inferno difficulty, along with nerfing inferno. It also brought out the monster power level which you can tweak based on personal ability and preference. I had no intention of playing this much, but did want to explore 1.0.5 a bit. But then I started getting drops that were actually worth something (YMMV). I made one sale that netted me more gold than I ever had in the past. The rest is down hill. I spent 300 million in this patch, all from gold I made through AH. Oh yea, 1.0.5 also introduced D3's version of ubers, the Infernal Machine event.

So yea, I have incentive to play. A few of us here have similar stories, maybe not loot success stories, but certainly the driving component of PVP, etc. I will say this. 1.0.5 is what the game should have been like on release day.

When was this changed?!?!?! I thought only primary attacks triggered resolve from what I remember (pre 1.0.3/1.0.4).

Also I got a fat 2h wpn from pLvling on my monk and I've been having loads of fun with it on my lvl 50 barb

And that dps is with crap gear. Steam rolling MP10 NM atm. Should be interesting to see how I handle hell.

There were some very important changes that brought me back. I'll try to list a few for you and you can decide if it's a good enough reason for you to give it a try again. Remember I was a person that lamented all the mistakes from day one, as I really wanted the game to be good and last for years.

1. Adjustable difficulty while leveling. Basically you can tune to the game to your difficulty. There are 10 available difficulties if you turn on the option in the Gameplay menu. This actually makes Normal, Nightmare, and Hell challenging. Inferno at high MP levels is maddeningly hard. Of course you can buy badass weapons to overcome this. If you're used to World of Warcraft twinking of low level characters, you can really have fun collecting "reduced level required" loot to see how good you are. And even if you are decked out but not paying attention, there is a distinct possibility of death. I love dying and discovering options and builds that overcome situations. I would theorycraft all day if I could.

2. Speed in leveling. When you throw the game on Monster Power 10 (MP10) you get ridiculous amounts of exp per monster kill. So you can just fly through levels on your way to 60. Leveling is an absolute breeze. And if you're twinked you can kill multiple monsters at one time so you get this feeling that you can do anything. Which of course leads to you pulling an entire cave with 4 packs of elites and dying horribly. Which is freaking fun!

3. User created game mode; "Self Found Gear". Basically because there are a lot more drops you have a much greater chance to get gear that your character can actually use. This has caused a phenomenon where you can actually gear up by playing the game and wearing what drops. And the gear that drops in the upper MP levels of difficulty are actually pretty darn good. So you aren't required to scan the AH from level 1 - 60. When I initially played D3 I never got relevant drops for my class. Now I'm picking and choosing by best stats and play style. Scary to think what else might Blizzard think of to add to the game...

4. New bosses that have discernible patterns to their attacks. New bosses they added to the game that drop keys actually have real patterns for their attacks! So you if you get a$$ raped it's for a reason as it was your fault and not RNG. They aren't real hard, but they are kinda tank like and they can kill you. The really good thing is that you can overcome this by playing better. Or of course by buying gear that negates it but that is kinda boring still. Never tried the Uber bosses so no idea how they operate. Quite sure some one can elaborate on them.

5. CC that actually works in Inferno. This one is such a huge change that I can't imagine playing without it again. Basically now all of your moves in your spell book actually work in Inferno difficulty! You can actually freeze monsters in place and they stay frozen as long as the tooltip says they were going to be CC'd. This makes the game so much more rich and intriguing as you have lots more options in play styles. Long live the ability to choose how you want to play your class, and make an impact on your game without feeling as if you're shoe boxed into a spec.

6. Better Loot system. Still RNG based but things you pick up are actually relevant now. The higher the MP level the richer the loot. Almost eliminated the low level loot from Inferno as the low level items will roll with level 60 stats. You have no idea how much more fun it is to pick up rare loot and not worry what ilvl it is. I like selling the reduced item level required loot on the AH for real good pocket change. And each MP level you progress up drops better items so you actually see legendary items. I've seen more legendary items in D3 than I've seen in Borderlands 2. Now of course they still like to roll 1 stat from making you rich. But if you plan out your purchases on the AH you can buy cheap legendary items and face roll low MP Inferno at a very low entrance price.

7. Paragon levels. Just more stuff to do and fun collecting more stats while having a new experience bar to track is nice. It really does make a difference in your character that you can feel. So a welcomed change!

Things I'd like to see added:

Randomized dungeon layouts. Yes supposedly they are random now but not random enough. I already have a very good idea where everything thing is when I first enter a zone.

Spectator modes. Peek in on the guys running MP10. Or peek in on arena matches when they come out.

Less emphasis on gear for progression. Everyone that cares has figured out the 5 or so stats they need for their class to be stellar in D3. Thus all the gear that has those 5 or so stats costs an arm, leg, and left nut. So why does the BS gear still drop? Blizzard stop trolling us and give the people what they want! Why not stick specific loot on certain bosses with a really low drop rate. Or do it like the new Hellfire rings where you save up materials for a chance to craft a great version of it? Novel idea?

Still haven't figured out why I have to play through the game 4 complete times to get to the endless loop levels at the end. Wish someone from Blizzard Entertainment could enlighten me to the fun factor of multiple play through of identical content. The Monster Power levels certainly helped break the monotony. I still think Normal difficulty should be optional or tied to a mode where you can only wear gear drops. And a spectator mode where you can choose to drop in and gank someone. :)

In short the game has come a long way since launch. You still need AH gear to compete at the highest difficulty levels. But for the regular Joe Schmoo's of the world you can play at your own level of gear... err skill with the latest patch. Is the game better than TL2? Not to me but my nephews seem to love D3 so that's what I'm playing as I play to be social. It's close enough to TL2 that I don't feel as if I'm being shortchanged. Plus D3 has an armory.

How does it compare to Path of Exile? I love theorycrafting and choices so D3 will never be as fun as PoE, although trying to figure out gear choices became a lot more interesting in the latest 1.05 D3 patch. It still has PoE beat in animations though. I still have to go with the nerd geek out title though. Also I can't wait to see the crab lady bare breasted boss in the newest PoE area that is scheduled for release soon. Good thing is that I can play all 3 games and not feel bad in the slightest.

Almost eliminated the low level loot from Inferno as the low level items will roll with level 60 stats. You have no idea how much more fun it is to pick up rare loot and not worry what ilvl it is.

Actually, they roll with ilevel 63 stats as long as you're in inferno act 3 mp0 or higher. That's because mod rolls are now based on monster level. At inferno mp0 act 3 or higher (can be mp1 inferno regardless of act, but needs to be at least act 3 if mp0), all monsters are already level 63.

IIRC they do in a3 mp0 or mp1+ in all acts. The iLvl just determines base stats like max base armor, base dmg, etc....

It's not a chance. It's always. They can still be crappy though if the other mods were crappy.

From the patch notes:
Affixes on items will now roll their level based on the level of the monster killed rather than the item's level (this applies to all items including random affixes on Legendary and set items)

good thing about skorn is that it's black damage weapon for +%element damage like my boots. Finally sold a good 1h that i found a long time ago (1.4) for 50mil. Now I'm patiently looking for a skorn. I can buy a decent one now, but I'm not in a rush. I'm taking a 1 week hiatus as I cram for a programming interview. I'm only on to sell stuff and try to snipe items. If i cant snipe one by then, I'll just buy the best BIN i can find

Items that end between midnight PST and 5am PST are targets. After 8am EST there are lots of people watching auctions again.
