Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

Last night looked like
3 act 1 runs
1 act 2 runs
3 act 3 runs

all in 4 player mode.

Tons of good things found.............None of it found by me. extremely fun playing with a full party of 4 again......but still quite irritated that more than 5 $50 Million drops fell and I got none of them.

a The Traveler's Pledge dropped with 200 Dex and 8 crit as the random properties......closest priced item on the auction house was 1,000,000,000.....and that item wasn't even as good.

ALL Wizards mush try Archon: Arcane Destruction In single player.......Its so fun.....I hit a group with reflect damage and kill all at once including myself.

man im glad they made these changes. i didnt know paragon levels effected your stats too. making you more excited to gain levels.

honestly i think the last two days is more fun ive had in diablo with the exception of my first play through.

the game is vastly more fun. still challenging and still hard but its not like retarded hard. inferno before it wasnt even about skill or anything it was about stacking AR and armor and then hoping you didnt get one shotted. now i actually die but its usually because i am not playing well enough, like dodging molten and frozen. idk all around the game feels a lot better.

I don't think that you can price items based on AH listings. There are tons of things listed on the AH at retardedly high prices but that doesn't mean that those items are worth it. The very fact that they are listed and haven't sold actually proves that they aren't worth it.

The average player will never ever have 50 million gold, so (s)he won't be buying your "50M drop". Those who do have that kind of cash will also think about whether or not something is enough of an upgrade for them to pay 50M for something.

Your Traveler's Pledge will obviously sell, but nowhere near 1 billion. There's a video on youtube about a BiS monk amulet selling on the US server and it fetched 400 million. Just as a point of information.

another thing thats tight is co-op is much more viable it seems. before single player was easiest. now i can roll shit with my WD buddy

Anyone who is bored with the game should consider deleting all their characters and starting over, especially you SC guys. Keep a little gold so you can still buy some gear along the way.

I play HC so I've had to level up new characters quite a few times, but it's not the same when you've got 100m+ gold waiting to buy a full set of top end gear as soon as you hit 60. Before, leveling up a character was just a tedious act that I had to do to get back to farming inferno. Knowing that I'll have to struggle to get gear just to do Act 1 Inferno again has made me enjoy the game and the leveling so much more.

In my experience from last night, this is quite true. It's refreshing starting out a new character, having no gold, and actually giving a damn about what drops!

Normal Difficulty is pretty easy so far... but i knew it would be. Since i'm in HC for the first time though, it doesn't bother me as much because it's giving me a chance to get some gear before i face anything that'd pummel me

Wow, pretty neat to see such a post. I'm hoping it's honest and not publicity BS. We'll see what happens.

My thoughts exactly. If it was sincere, i can't help but feel a little reassured that the game will continue to get better.

It would take a gold botter to buy it for a billion.....which could happen, but unlikely. I was just simply stating the only other Amulet that had crit was for 1 billion. No other Traveler's Pledge had Crit so pricing it is going to have to be purely on what he and someone else thinks it will be worth. I'd still start at 900 million and move down.....since you can cancel auctions now.

The next next closest item had nearly the same stats but Replace 8.0 crit with 40 Fire res and it had an active bit around 30 million. So the hard part will be how much is better is 8 crit over 40 fire res. Once more people start finding these items it will be more easy to gauge.

What builds are you wizards playing with in a group?

I think my problem is just that my gear is shit for the level of damage output that Act 3 level monsters output (no hp regen), but I am having trouble finding a viable build beyond the standard Venom Hydra/Blizzard/Piercing Orb build that I was using pre-1.04. I can find other builds that are cool and do good or better damage but they require me to stand still (e.g. the ArcaneTorrent w/ Disruption build using an Arcane Hydra) and that generally means I die all the fucking time. Even playing with a tank, the lack of a decent aggro mechanic + hordes of monsters means that I am taking a lot of random damage. Playing through Act 3 yesterday, I would get gibbed by those damn flying demons who shoot flaming rocks at you. Each of those rocks hits me for 10k+ and I have 30k health, so there were times I would die before I could even react.

Once more people start finding them, they'll be cheap. Start at 250m and work down if you really think its worth a lot. Take what you can get and run.

General tip - Never keep anything that's worth 10-20m+ (HC Gold, you convert). Even if it's an upgrade for you, you'll be able to get something similar in a week for half the price. That's even more so the case in SC.

I was dominating with Fire Meteor build last night in act 3 4 players. with this.

The damage increase on Meteor, and Fire Bolts makes a fire build very good for multi player. We had a monk, WW Barb, WW Wizard, and My Meteor Wizard.

You can also use Something like this for fire and Ice....Now that Ice Hydra is fixed.

My most recent run used this and it worked pretty good as well just pop diamond skin and spam them balls.

I found a small upgrade for a ring today (IAS, int, min-max dmg, vit) but nothing amazing. Seems my glass cannon build still falls short in dps to clear act 2 at a pace faster than the exp for 1.

Maybe if I hit 70-80k, the steamrolling will continue. Tonight will be my first night to play more than an hour, so maybe I can calculate some exp/time in act 1 and 2 zones.

You're a wizard with how much dps? and you can't do act 2 quickly?

Man. The gap in gear between hitting Inerno and actually being able to play it is insane.

I think i hit inferno with ~13k dps. After a lot of boring grinding and finding nothing, i gave up for a bit. My buddy didn't and when i played again he gave me lots of gear, taking my dps up to 30k.

I still can't do shit though = /

That's why i'm having fun in HC lol... a new character and all, i just upgraded my gray 3.0dps axe to a blue 6.3 dps axe, and got a 8 armor shield with 4% MF. WOOT!

I'm still messing around with me builds with all the changes, but with magic weapon and sparkflint I only hit 56k. That's really sizable, but at great cost of survivalibility. I enjoy reckless glass cannon builds with no defensive abilities, which is why I'd never survive hc. I cleared inferno a long time ago, but it wasn't pretty. I cleared act 2 last night, but I hit a few problem packs. Taking into account dying and stuff, exp gain from harder mobs isn't enough for the speed I clear act 1.

and that's solo?

It'd be nice if the benefits from IAS, Crit, and straight stat-stacking were equal so there'd be 3 distinct options. It feels like crit is the only way atm.

back before they nerfed IAS, were people seeing bigger increases in dps than what crit is now yielding?
Yes because the formula used to be something like this average_weapon_dmg * 2 (for every % of IAS) * 1 (for every % of crit chance) * 1 (for every % of crit dmg) * 1 (for every point of base dmg stat), now it's * 1 (for every % of IAS) which means that IAS and crit chance are roughly equal unless you stack a lot of crit dmg in which crit chance is actually a lot better than IAS.

Crit chance is the only way if you stack a lot of crit dmg, if you don't have much crit dmg then IAS, crit chance, and stat stacking are basically equal.

I guess I should feel massively underpowered making runs though inferno act 1 with only 9k dps, 22k health and 900 life on hit. Quite survivable in 1.04 as long as I don't do anything stupid. Actually finding a few decent items, that should finally allow me to afford proper inferno gear. Act 2 is pretty much instant death, can't make it out of the canyons.

Thanks for the explanation. I guess it would make sense that having to stack 2 stats should be better than stacking 1.

I don't think so, crit looks to be much better, people are owning stuff faster than ever. lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwKiY9UgvTA

Except this guy has at the very least 300% crit damage, tough to say from the fuzzy video but my guess is that it's 350%+. At that point crit chance/dmg is better but normal players will not be able to afford that type of gear. If your crit dmg is low then crit chance is on par with IAS and stat stacking because the later two give you a constant benefit whereas crit chance is ... well ... a chance.

The formula for calculating damage from IAS never changed, just how easy it is to obtain high levels of it.

Because of the way damage is calculated, increasing any of the three will also make increasing the others better. This is similar to why keeping armor and resist all close to the same dr yields better results than trying to stack one and neglect the other. It's multiplicative, increasing one makes increasing the other even better.

Asking which is better depends on your current stats. If you have high crit/crit damage some points in IAS might yield more dps then a few more points in crit damage.

9% IAS rings + main stat are fairly easy to come by in the ah. They're a lot better in dps ups for how much they go for compared to crit rings, considering with my 300% crit dmg build I have now

True that the formula hasn't changed, the constant that is the IAS multiplier has changed with 1.0.3 though, pre 1.0.3 it was twice as high as it is now. In other words, the 1.0.3 change made the IAS contribution to dps 50% of what it used to be before that patch.

This resulted in IAS to be more in line with crit chance and stat-stacking.

It is also true that raising one stat will make the others more valuable, but just looking at the conceptual math stacking crit chance is still more beneficial that IAS or stats if you have high crit damage. How high? Tough to say since the answer depends on your current values for the other DPS affecting stats.

I'm late to the CM/WW Wizard train, but boy is it a lot of fun. I had a bunch of experimental crit gear from before the patch and tried something different with it, but failed. So I decided to give CM/WW a try and it's still great even after the nerfs. My survivability is in the shitter though, compared to my normal gear. Even so, I survive a lot longer in Act 3 than I'd think. Having Archon is also a lot of fun to bust out frequently.

I'm probably going to slowly move towards optimizing my gear around this build.

Any other DH's using Chakams (or whatever they're called)? I started using them since the patch since they seem to put out the most damage and have been able to farm A2 reasonably. Not sure how we'll I'd do in A3, but I've been doing A1 for at least a couple months with 300 MF (w/valor) and haven't produced much.

So I was playing some HC last night, and was DC'd without warning. Upon going back to the log-in screen, i see a notice about how they're doing restarts and it should take them a half-hour, and that during this half-hour period we could expect dc's and other connection issues.

Does anyone know wtf?

Even though i could log in, i would play for like 1 minute and then lag out, and dc, so i stopped playing.

What is wrong with their server setup that would cause server b to lag out if server a is restarted? i was clearly connected to one, so, shouldn't that be it?

Also, it rather bugged me that they gave me no notice. It occurred to me in that moment that that's how my HC char is going to die... because of a lag-out.

In contrast, PoE restarts often, and they tell you... "Server restart in 5 minutes to apply a patch. Downtime 1 minute" and they go down, and come back up just like they said they would.

mind linking your build?

There were server issues since Thursday afternoon/evening. The login screen would tell you that they are restarting services and that there were intermittent connectivity issues because of that. First ETA to fix as 11:30 pm, then they posted 12:30 am, and then it just never really recovered. Right now logging in is hit and miss and the AH is offline.

well they halved it on items not the way it works

Unless the casting animation has been cut in half, I'm still inclined to avoid it. I used twin chakrams during launch week and it wasn't bad per se...but it's kind of like using Rapid Fire in the way it forces you to stand still.

BoL still puts out more AoE dmg and doesn't force you to come to a complete stop the way Chakrams do. If the casting animation is substantially reduced, maybe I revisit it, but even with the small % bumps there's better alternative imo.

I would imagine that their server architecture is significantly larger and more branched out than POE due to the sheer number of players. It's not nearly comparable in scale.

Ahh glad i didn't try to keep playing. They should communicate with us better on this shit.

I understood that when i asked the question. I was hoping for more information on what sort of server infrastructure a company like blizzard is running where different servers affect each other... can you elaborate on 'branched out'?

No one knows fur sure, but from what I'm guessing, ther servers that actually host the game are different from the authentication, chat, ah, and battle.net. You could log in because those servers didn't need maintainence, but the actual game servers did. Ther are probably tons of game servers, so most likely you kept getting on servers that were about to be patched. Had you connected on to a patched server, you probably wouldn't have been kicked off any longer. There probably isn't a way for them to easily shift which game servers you connect to, and implementing that would take longer than the actual fix they were already working on. The only other solution would be to take everything down until they were all completed.

Battle.net (including wow and sc2) does regular maintenance on Tuesdays, the only time they patch beyond that is if unforeseen issues arise. A lot of game logic can be hot fixed meaning they don't have to even restart servers, this issue seems like it was a hardware or OS related.

You're probably right, and that makes sense--thanks. I just wanted to better understand what was happening.

I've been using BoL as well (since they nerfed the hell out of tenticles) but now BoL only does 150% of weap dmg where twin chakrams does something like 265% of weapon dmg (Im at work right now so I dont have the exact numbers).

Only advantage I can see to using BoL is that it moves slowly. But my hatred regen is retarded high so I just spam the shit out of chakrams.

A single chakram is 170%, but twin is 114% each (total of 228%). Considering it was originally 100% each, that's an insignificant bump and not worth the loss of mobility. Like I said, if they made the animation considerably faster, I might look it again. There's also the issue of using twin chakrams in narrow corridors - a problem limited only to the chakram skill tree as a whole :p

The thing is, nothing's changed. Posted NT nerf, DH's scrambled to find a cost-effective alternative. You either had burst (Cluster Arrow - Cluster or LfB) or you had sustain and massive radius in BoL. That hasn't changed since 1.0.4. Heck Cluster Arrow even got its damage bumped slightly too lmao.

Did 1 to 60 in 16 hours, all in public games. I hadn't done a single public game until this character being how bad things tended to happen in D2 hardcore public games. It was a lot of fun starting from scratch again?
