Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

you mean like a legendary set per class?

or just a random collection of cherry picked stats rares?

each class has "Best In Slot" items which are all different kinds of legendary and rares with certain stat rolls

in my opinion , no legendary set is "best in slot" for it's class. youll always have peices that are mere awesome rolling rares replacing pieces in the set.

the closest to a BiS legendary set is the Demon Hunter set : "Natalya's" Set which at a 4 peice bonus, gives a huge advantage of 2 Discipline regeneration a second (Bashiok Confirms this will NOT be nerfed from 2 disc/s - http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/5911883850#3 )

That's what I wanted to know. Thank you, sir.

Diablo III Patch 1.0.3a – v.1.0.3. 10235

Classes
Witch Doctor
Bug Fixes
Zombie Charger
Skill Rune – Zombie Bears
Fixed a bug where Zombie Bears were unable to attack targets on slopes
Zombie Bears should no longer become stuck on objects with which they shouldn't have collision

Items
General
Equipped items will now take "wear-and-tear" durability damage at half the previous rate
Please note that durability loss as the result of normal combat is different from the 10% durability loss characters will incur when they die. Equipped items have always suffered durability loss while fighting, and we are simply slowing the rate at which the loss occurs.
Bug Fixes
Fixed a bug that was causing Unique monsters to not drop the appropriate amount of loot when slain
Fixed a bug with linking items with 3 gem sockets
It is no longer possible to create fake achievement links

Bug Fixes
General
Fixed a bug that was causing the "Switch Hero" button to occasionally disappear after leaving a game while in town
Fixed several gold and leveling exploits
Fixed several game and service crashes (for Mac and PC)

Also, anyone interested in farming A2/A3 with me and my barb buddy? You can be a DPS or tank but we just ask that you carry your weight (aka, please don't be a glass cannon DH that dies to anything that looks at you wrong, there seems to be a ton of mortar/reflect dmg mobs in A2 so....)

1.03a was implemented tues morning I believe. These new hot fixes (which were part of 1.03b) were rolled in this mornings restart as a hot fix because they had testing issues with the rest of 1.03b patch which is yet to be released and they didn't want the community to have to wait on them. Awww, isn't Blizz so kind.

EDIT: Here's the blue post (actually yesterdays news:p)

In general we tend to not provide release dates or specific timeframes for patches due to the complexity of the updates, and the possibility that we’ll discover an issue that keeps us from releasing it on time. We discovered a few such issues late into the testing of 1.0.3b, which means it won’t hit this week as previously mentioned.

However, we know that a number of changes in 1.0.3b have been highly anticipated, and so we spent the better part of today pulling specific changes that did not run into testing issues out of 1.0.3b, and turning them into hotfixes. These include the Inferno drop increases among a couple others, and will be applied with off-peak rolling restarts tomorrow morning. We’ll also be updating theJune hotfix blog with specific changes (including new drop rates) tomorrow morning after we manage to wrangle up a cup of coffee.

That's not true though. You have the same probability of winning every single pull. Adding probabilities to a desired outcome doesn't work, unless you have control of those probability variables.

What confuses people is Expected Value.

E[x] = x1p1 + x2p2 + ... + xkpk

This theory states that there is a value you can expect to have over a course of dice rolls given a probability and value set.

So in a classic dice example:

E[x] = 1(1/6) + 2(1/6) + ... + 6(1/6)

E[x] = 3.5

This does not guarantee anything, it's just a weighted average.

That being said, it is true that if you do not roll, you do not enact the probability of desired value "x" happening. But rolling more or less does not influence the probability that "x" will happen.

That's what I said, isn't it? Of course each pull has the same chance as the last pull, but the more times you pull, the chance of winning with one of those pulls increases.

Flipping a coin 200 times. The chance of getting a heads at least one of those times is not 50%. It's much higher than that.

Same in D3, if you pick up 200 rares, the chance of one of them being good is much higher than the chance of only picking up one and it being good.

I might give Act 3 farming another whirl to see how it turns out. I like Act III due to the increased difficulty and dying doesn't bother me as much as it does to others (maybe I'm the only one left who likes to kill shit for fun?), but the pacing is really slow with my current setup and wading through the trash mobs gets in the way of the "meat" of the runs. I also like stacking 5 NV and watching the yellows fall!

Has anyone else been having really bad microstutter issues? Running a 3930k @4.5 with a single 6970 and fraps says my fps is at 60 but it feels more like 25-30. I have tried some fixes from google search with no luck.

Man...those drop rates really make it seem worth it to push through Act2 and try to get Act3 on farm. My friends have all gotten quite a few upgrades and Act1 is a joke at this point (My DH friend is doing something like 45k+ DPS and critting for 200k+).

I have this on and off. I have no idea what triggers it though.

I haven't left A1 inferno, in fact i just got geared enough to stop dying there. what sort of stats do you need as a wizard for act 2 and act 3?

NO. Aside from D3, because I'm pretty sure no one here knows exactly what kind of random number generator they are using because there are a lot of different methods and companies like Blizz don't exactly offer that info up. But lets focus on your coin example. On the 200th flip, it has no memory. It doesn't care what the last 199 flips were. On that 200th flip, your chances are still 50/50.

Ditto here - with a single GPU I might add (GTX 580).
I usually just alt-tab out and come back in and it's gone. It's annoying as fuck and only started happening since the IAS nerf.

You missed his point. What's the chance you'll get a heads to land if you flip a coin 200 times? More than 50%. When you're farming, you have to look at things collectively.

The chance to see a rare with 200% MF might be 50%... but what's the chance that you will see at least 1 rare in 2 hours of farming? More than guaranteed, imo.

Funny--i also noticed it only occurring after one of those patches.

From an earlier post of mine.

Also, I realize this game is pretty much 99.9% about gear, but damn, I would seriously play this game just to beat up on the monsters. For some reason, it is just really satisfying to pulverize monsters in this game and see all the gibs go everywhere.

I'm relatively happy with the game and changes lately. I've got a 60 DH and Wiz, both in Act 2 Inferfno, and a 55 Monk and WD, both in Act 2 hell (all on SC). Once I stopped playing the WD like a pet class and started playing it like a CC class I'm really enjoying it, easily my most favorite class.

Correct, on that flip. However, over the course of 200 flips, the odds of getting a single "heads" is greater than 50%.

Absolutely. As a matter a fact it should approach, but obviously never reach 100%. Because the odds of not getting one head would be (0.5)^200. Which is 1 in 1.61^60 which is a very large number. Basically if you could flip a coin and get tails 200 times, you're basically the luckiest person to have ever existed.

EDIT:

Just for funsies, this reminds of when I compared winning the lottery to flipping a coin and getting the same result consectively. It was something like high 20s or so. So the odds of winning the lottery are similar to flipping a coin and getting the same side like 27 times or something close to that.

From an earlier post of mine.

Ah, glad to know I'm not alone here :D

I just did a Siegebreaker run and got well over 16% ilvl 63 rares overall. It felt pretty good, though none of the rolls were worth mentioning. I left the game unconsciously to price check some gear so now have to start over again lol.

Anyone having slowdown issues in complex situations with high end rigs? I thought it crossfire at first but I'm still experiencing reduced frames single card.

Very rarely; in fact I can remember that last time specifically, and it only lasted for a second - an illusionist hammerfist guy in Act4.

Okay, so I'm on my Monk (56 atm) and I'm using 2 1h weapons. Primary is 690 dps, secondary is 316. If I equip any random shield my Damage goes up 1500 (but my attacks per second go down .19). Does anyone know how exactly this works? Should I use a shield?

I currently think that the WD is significantly underpowered (just got mine to 50). My experience is that the pets are really not viable (read as die almost instantly) and other than CC, it feels pretty lackluster. Yes. Reason is the same reason WoW has such low FPS in certain areas (LK Dalaran for example) - it is a server side limit. The servers can/will not provide your client enough bandwidth (a limit by Blizz per client). It is nothing on the client side.

I would switch it out for something else, either a shield or higher dps weapon. From what I recall, dual wielding boosts attacks speed by 15% (which translates to .19 for you), but now 50% of your hits are using a low dps weapon, so using the stronger weapon by itself wins out.

Dual wield is effectively the average damage of the two weapons at the average of the two weapons' speeds with a 15% speed bonus.

So if your second weapon is significantly worse than your primary, it will actually decrease your DPS.

All the time when I play with a DH friend. Illusionist + lightning then add in his lightning ball = lagfest. :D:p

When I hit CRTL + R It shows my FPS ......a constant 0.....broken as of one of their patches.

I have 3930k @ 4.5 and a GTX 670 on SSD......My performance issues are.

Rubber banding like crazy ----- Not a hardware issue Probably a coding issue
Lagging Somewhat bad ------ Not a hardware issue Probably a Server/coding issue
Huge creature loads with 4 players ---- They must have made improvements because it used to drop me to like 0 FPS but handles it much better now.

I also use 3 1920x1080 monitors in Windowed fullscreen mode and it runs like butter except for the issues above.

It would be cool to see if rubber banding would still be an Issue in a LAN game....I think it would be because its a coding problem.

Dual Wielding alternates hits from each weapon at an aggregate 15% faster attack speed.

Essentially the formula is: (DPS1 + DPS2)/2 * 1.15

So clearly your second weapon being so much worse than your first one actually decreases your damage. Basically your weapons need to be approximately within 15% of each other to not suffer a damage penalty from dual wielding.

Try to get weapons that are roughly the same in dps, that way your average will not be limited. 690's even higher than what I've been using! The good stuff gets so expensive.

Same here, constant 0 fps. Good to know it seems like a server side thing though. It's honestly not *that* bad. The fact that I no longer play bf3 and I only play d3 it's a bit overkill - my rig for the situation. The only other game I look forward to anymore is GW2.

Yelp, stepping down to a 2500k and single 6950 I'll probably still be ahead of the curve for the forseeable future.

WD damage is crazy with zombie bears... like insane burst.

Now that zombie bears is fixed, yea. It works well with a Monk who can round up groups with cyclone strike (and not die).

damn, thanks for that tidbit. I hadn't realized that.

I didn't really have a problem with pets with my WD until Inferno. Zombie Dogs are now useless. The Gargantuan will works well for tanking though.

I am fucking done. I'm tired of dying because I got hit 20 yards from the mob due to lag. I'm tired of these fucking ridiculous champion pack combos. I'm fucking done.

I've seen some spotty hit detection, but nothing that bad. What's your ping in-game? I'm usually around the low 100s and for the most part it's acceptable. The rubberbanding is more aggravating but I've seen less of that the last couple of times I played.

Sorry bro :( Go play another game for a bit and relax. If you're not having fun, no need to frustrate yourself.
