Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

I have a 60 DH/Barb/Wiz but I've prefered played Barbarian over all the other classes. Even though I regretted creating a melee class until some of the recent patches, I'm having more fun than ever. I wish they didn't nerf the acts, but the drop rates on gear definitely needed to be upped, because I like the reward of finding my own gear; rather than purchasing it from Anonymous.

The new drop rates make this even more possible.

I was swimming in iLvl63 rares yesterday from A2. Granted none of them were good for monks, but my barb friend got a few very very good upgrades. Hopefully karma will remember me :p

Nothing but crap has been dropping, whether I'm in Hell or any Act of Inferno, or any boss with any number of valor stacks, it's all been shit. Damn it. Whatever I buy, it has to have at least some degree of all-resist on it, and even so I'm only around 500 because it is way too expensive to upgrade from what I already have. Would be nice if something would drop to improve my wizard, but nothing ever does. Absolutely ridiculous that I've never seen a better 1H than my current 830 dps axe which I got in the first week drop in an entire month of farming.

i MF in Act 1 with 285% MF, after NV stacks, and have been getting all garbage. ilvl 63 items should not be able to roll 233 dps. I'm sorry game, but that's not fucking ilvl 63 then, is it????

i understand dice rolling, but why not make the item level match the quality of the item? there's a concept for them.

233 dps = item level 53. 1100 dps = item level 63. it just makes sense.

How else are the supposed to keep a lid on the economy? Careful planning?

High ilevel gear do have inherently higher base stats and can roll higher mods, but its all still subject to chance. Otherwise, everyone would be swimming in 1000+ dps weapons by now. No item is guaranteed +% damage, + min damage and + max damage all at the same time. Those are exceptionally rare combinations and their rolls have to be good too.

So you're basically saying i'm comparing the worst-rolled ilvl 63 to the best rolled ilvl 53?

I guess so. Still makes me want to punch my monitor right in the inventory.

edit: i'm just so used to wow where better ilvl = more stats to allocate, end of story.

I only get excited when i see certain items drop, like slayer's for barbs and heaven's hands for monks.
Certain ilvl 63 items have a tendancy to be better than others. I found a 1030 damage 1 hand slayer with a socket last night for my barb. They are out there just very few and far between.

Lucky you. I'm running through A2 right now, killing everything in sight. 5 rare packs and 2 bosses later... all I got was a single rare ilvl55 item. And the rare drop didn't even come from the pack. It was some random kill

Err that shouldn't be possible - are you level 60 and in Inferno?

Something like that. There's just a huge range of possible damage rolls. If you look at a naked ilvl 63 2H mace, it can vary from 613-624 dps, which is pitiful for an item of that caliber. Factor in the various possible combinations of damage bonuses, it can more than double the weapon's base dps. Most items probably don't roll any bonus damage at all, making them look worthless. That's just the nature of the RNG game I guess. I mentioned somewhere that the game could use a little more predictable progress since it's a shitty feeling that there's no way to foresee your next upgrade without the AH.

exactly, what you are hoping for is like 40% extra damage, attack speed increase, some form extra damage be it fire or lightning, and crit bonuses if you get those rolls the damage jumps tremendously. its all rng.

Yea that makes sense, and your previous post imo was right on. I have more fun grinding mobs in wow than i do grinding gear in D3, because i know the loot table of what i'm grinding, and know that if i grind long enough, that shit will drop. Like in diablo 2... i could grind mephisto for hours because he had a set loot table. This "grind anywhere" for a world-drop and hope to get a good roll shit just doesn't strike my fancy.

Also, with the AH i've rather pigeon-holed myself. I like magic find, intellect, vitality, and resist all. Crit and Crit dmg would be nice, but i haven't been striving for those because of the price.

So, i've replaced all my gear with basically the above 4 stats. Now, when something drops which is pretty good but doesn't fit into what i'm after for my build, it goes to the AH... so i probably have a 1 in 10 billion chance to get a drop for myself now... well, maybe 10 in 10 billion because of my magic find lol

Indeed, it's a "concern" I have with the current design intent. I didn't care much for Meph runs in D2 though. In WoW, there were various things to work towards in a predictable manner, like farming for rep, getting exalted, and buying from the vendor. The chance drops during the grind were simply bonuses to keep you going. However, WoW's loot system became too predictable and "streamlined" when all you had to do was farm Heroic dungeons and buy loot in town. A mix of randomized phat loots while "working towards" something on a personal level (read: not from the AH) is what I think the game needs to keep people interested.

Yes and yes. I'm scratching my head with that too. I'm just having the worst luck. Either that, or it's karma for finding an 800LoH/700dps 1H weapon last night for my monk. :p

Hmm you might not be fighting bosses, just some uniques that you might've encountered, which drop crap. Bosses with 5 NV guarantee 2 rares again. IIRC, the bosses in Act 2 are Magda, Kulle and Belial. i feel like I'm missing someone, but whatever.

the fat greedy pussy green thing

nope thats act 3 :D

4 Act II

4.1 Shatterbone, Acolyte of Torment
4.2 Maghda, Leader of the Coven
4.3 Gavin the Thief
4.4 Zoltun Kulle, Betrayer of the Horadrim
4.5 Belial, Lord of Lies

gavin and shatterbone are mini bosses and dont guarantee drops pretty sure

Yeah most bosses have a special boss room, which requires a ready check if you're in a party. The only exception I can think of atm is the warden from Act I.

Just sold that in like 10 mins on the RMAH for 120 pounds, might buy an SSD drive with the money tbh

Yeah, I was thinking of rares. Either way... it took me until the 7th pack to get something above ilvl60

Let this be a less to everyone on here... if you get a good roll like this, shoot for the sky! Max RMAH buyout all the way.

120 pounds is a bit more than $120

The one I'm using is 7.5% crit chance, 58% crit dmg with 19-36 dmg and 33% GF. It ran me 10 million on the AH and I'm guessing this one could have gone for at least 100 million gold. 120 pounds ain't bad though :)

I'm getting tired of the game. The next bump up in gear is way too expensive to farm. I havent had much luck with items. I went from 100k gear, to 500k gear, now its like I need 10m gear....the progression in that regards sucks.

This is probably the best amulet ive ever seen. Woulda maxed out on the RMAH easily, but 120 isn't that bad either, grats on the cash

Bah, I sold a 400k shield for 40k. Jokes on me!

I did get a decent socketed 890 dps sword with 200 dex and LoH today, not bad.

How stupid do you have to be to pay $100s for in-game items?! People these days...

Why is it stupid? Some have the money so let them use it. It just seems weird at first because the concept is new. I personally hope it becomes more popular and mainstream, because when it does, instead of everyone rushing to sell, more people will be willing to buy as well.

Last item posted for 120 pounds made me want to play. Picked up a off-hand source for a wizard on a 2 NV stack with the stats (MF 64%).:

75 - 320 Damage
8% crit chance
9 arcane power per crit
35 INT

Put it up for $50 bid or $90 buy-out and it sold within an hour. Think I under priced it? Was thinking of replacing my 6.5% crit chance source, but mine gives me higher damage because of the INT differential.

Nope you done well dude. I have a really nice Blue offhand

61-343
8 percent crit
77 int

DPS wise mine is better and i would get naff all on Eu server
