Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

for each extra character in your group mobs get:
Normal - +75% Health
Nightmare - +85% Health;+5% Damage
Hell - +95% Health;+10% Damage
Inferno - +110% Health; +15% Damage

As I recall, at lvl 55 wizard I had 4300 dps and 24000 health.
Now level 60, 29k health, ~11k dps.

Thanks for the information on the difficulty scaling!

Oh, and after your post on your stats at 55, I spent 100k at the AH today (after leveling to 56) and was able to get 5000 dps and 19000 health. Looks like the armor at level 60 is loads better than that of mid 50s too!

I just hit 54 and loaded up at ah, im hoping this gear will last me to 60, so I cam save money in the mean time. I have noticed the gear in the mid high 50s is leaps better than below 50.

It would be nice if the auction house gave you an idea of what the item would do to the stats of your selected character...with all the modifiers and such in every item, it's tough to understand (at a glance) what the effective tradeoffs will be when selecting an item to buy.

Where is the best place to level up and get lots of gold?
I started act 2 with my lv 18 dh and I seem to die very easy.

Pony level is good. About ~8k gold for 20 minutes.

And how did you POSSIBLY beat the game at level 18?

He's talking about Act 2, not nightmare.

I'll have a look at the pony level sometime, but I have to say joining a friend at a higher difficulty is a massively quick way to nab tons of cash and also tons of rare items (which you then post for low prices on the AH). Really handy.

power level act 3 boss in nightmare till level 50.. farm hell...

hint the more people you do this with the more xp you can get...

so im in ACT 1(nightmare) with a lvl 37 wizard...my dps seems to be really low...only l ike 300 or so...armor about 550-650. my HP is roughly 4.3K.

Does the +dmg of the actual weapon I use act towards my spells and magic attacks?

if wizard is anything like Witch doctor your spell damage is directly related to your weapon damage..

Yes, it's directly related.

Yes. That big DPS number on weapons directly affects your spell damage. It's the same for everyone. So when you look at your toon in the inventory. That damage number is affected by all damage modifiers on weapons and gear.

I honestly don't remember what my dps was at the beginning of nightmare. But you need to ramp it up. Hit up the auction house and try to find some cheap stuff. Sometimes you can find a good deal, but don't hesitate to much or someone else will grab it. That's happened too often to me.

I hope they add some sort of way to look and manage your characters and the AH from the Battle.net site in browser. Would be really helpful.

Seems kind of silly that I can see my gear and it will even compare an AH item to what's equipped, but yet it can't tell me what the hp/mana/AP/DMG changes will be.

agreed especially with off hand weapon items there are so many stats its hard to tell whats ultimately going to be better.

Yeah, the only way is to switch your off hand weapon to your main hand to see the comparisons. Obviously many things they can improve on. Dunno how simple things like this was not noticed in the in house testing they claim. Soo many simple and obvious things that should be in from the start for a game that took this long.

just out of curiosity what are some other peoples attributes on witch doctor around level 55..

st - 580
dex - 350
int - 1105
vit - 402

armor - 2766
damage - 3867.5

I'm not a WD, but 1.1K for your main dmg stat sounds about right as I'm 1.1K for dex @lvl56.
Your VIT is lower (I'm at 700's for about 25K), but your Jungle 20% DR passive makes this gap alot smaller I would think.

That said, my boots, belt, helm and quiver all need to be upgraded, so I could easily see another 200 or so at lvl57 (quite a few of my 110+ dex items are lvl57 req).
I need to start leveling my other characters haha.

yeah the grind after 53 is killing me.. too high level for nightmare.. not strong enough for hell..

My DPS without SS passive is 6.7K or so and that's still not really enough for Act3 or 4 Hell. You need a better weapon :p
Yeah I actually gemmed my helm for EXP bonus (instead of MF/GF) cuz I'd rather do that when I finally have access to lvl60 gear.
I got 4 levels just going through Act3 (from 52 to 56), but I was part of a 3-man party (which included a monk - super crucial). I was doing like a 1/3 of everyone else's damage hahah.

Sigh my DH is so broken right now, all I can do is run away now. Cant even kite mobs on Inferno cause they melee me from a mile away or run faster than I do. They need to remove the GCD on SS so I can actually do some DPS...

Somewhere I read they are in the works for being able to view what your characters are equipped with, as for managing...most likely not. It will be just like the WoW....you could see what all you were wearing without executing the game.

You are strong enough for hell...

You don't have to grind anything before Inferno, the progression is pretty well paced. I finished Hell at 58 though so I had to grind 2 levels before Inferno.

Haha then we could window shop 24/7 - how can I lose?

This should have already been included, they have the entire interface built with WoW already. Just need to make cosmetic changes and setup a new database link, I don't get why we have wait for stuff like this and PVP...

I agree! Would be great to:

  1. be able to see your equipped/stashed gear in your browser
  2. view the auction house and make purchases/transfers from your browser
  3. view all this on your phone too!

Otherwise I end up bringing one of my laptops to work to sneakily boot up D3 to check my auctions. They could have *at least* included an option to email you when an item has sold!

Love all these ideas!

the same people who made wow made diablo.. so I dont see whats wrong with similarities. They definitely learned a lot from wow and made improvements there in order to make D3 better. but what most people dont realize is how much WOW took from diablo; cause wow adopted a shit ton from diablo.

kind of like comparing skyrim and fallout.

blizzard games continue to evolve and all their games benefit from the last.

I don't have an inside perspective or anything, but I would lean more towards the idea that these are usually different departments. While business practices are probably similar since they are under the same umbrella but to say that they are the same people/teams is more than likey not even close. At the most there are probably some connections/conferences/meetings between the higer ups (directors/managers/producers) but that's probably about it.

6.3 million copies sold there are going to be some complainers definitely! but for the most part the reception has been very positive.

I don't see how anyone can say that. From everyone I talked to. to the various forums to user reviews the reception has been very negative. The games itemization is broken and trivialized and its core game systems are diminished. It is fun to play once through, but the compulsive element is just not there. Blizzard needs to for once listen to their customers and completely revamp the itemization of this game and separate skills and spells from weapon damage, and add back in the unique modifiers that made D2 such a rich experience

Like comparing Skyrim and Fallout 3, or 1?

The dev team that made Diablo 1-2 have mostly moved on, also. Essentially different studios to boot.

I dunno about your last sentence. I think SC1 + BW, WC1-3 and D1 are their best games for sure.

How is SC1 better than SC2?

I disagree to an extend. I've played through all the way up through most of Act 1 of Hell and I have no intention of slowing down. I never played much D2 though.

I do have a friend who played a lot of D2 and he loves D3. So yeah.

There are some valid complaints, and I think a lot of stuff will be fixed/changed/revamped down the road. But I personally feel the core game and even gameplay, is very solid.

nobody said the same team. but it is the same company and there are going to be similarities thats the point which you seem to be missing. I mean especially for those that complain about it looking like wow... they make their own engines hahah of course theyre going to be similar. doesnt mean they arent unique personally I think diablo 3 is really unique looking and looks like I am running through a painted picture. I do see similarities still though

Everybody I talk to and know love the game, but even they aren't a good representation of the diablo 3 community because they are such a small percentage and that goes with all of the forums and user reviews you see on metacritic. Just remember if you saw 5000 negative posts from 5000 different people. Thats not a bad reception thats 5000 people who are unhappy but there is about 6.29 million who are. Obviously thats an exaggeration for emphasis but the point being way more people are happy than not. The second part of your post is mostly opinions. Personally I dont think the game is flawless. I spent 100k on my 55 wizard and bumped my dps from 1.2k to 5k... kind of lame cause I didnt feel like I earned the items at all. Personally think the AH is ruining it and taking the fun out of finding items

That's just people who cried they had login trouble when 3million people all tried logging in at the same time. Anyone have any login issues now? Yeah, that's what I thought.

Forgive me if this has been asked in the thread, I didn't read it. I finally bought Diablo 3 and it should be arriving in the mail soon. I have the Diablo 3 Beta installed and I was looking for a way to uninstall so I can install the retail version, it but there is no option to uninstall in the beta launcher, or a uninstall.exe in the game's directories. It is also not listed in the add/remove programs list (windows 7 64bit). The Blizzard forums are no help with the issue nor is there technical support page. How can I uninstall?

Can't remember what I did but I think I just deleted the folder.

The core game play is solid. But for the game to have long lasting success the itemization needs to be fun, deep and rewarding. But it is not in D3 right now. Legendaries are not really good, too few good attribuites, and almost no interesting attributes. I loaded up D2 this morning and looked at some of my relatively low level characters and they each had tons of interesting and diverse items, from sets to rares to uniques to crafter all of which added a lot of FLAVOR to the character. That is missing from D3. It is actually very MMO-ey in that its just progressively better gear in each act. It is truly broken and needs to be fixed

I could have swore the beta was listed under add/remove programs... I remember doing that, but I still had to manually delete the folder.

Just beat the butcher on NM with a monk and I'm feeling like I'm digressing for some reason. Can someone confirm if my stats look alright. These are from memory.
Lvl 38 monk
HP ~Low 3K
Dex ~400
Int ~?
Vit ~?
Armor ~1700
Damage ~525

Also can someone offer up a quick run down on what to do with gems? AFAIK you load up with as much of your main attribute as possible (dex in my case), and then socket your weapon with strength. Is this right? I've also heard someone say you want to socket your helm with something different.

Is it also wise to equip items with the highest attribute in favor of everything else?

Thanks ahead of time for any help or advice.

Here's what I keep hearing. People are not happy with itemization and want more like D2. Fine. Then other people come and say D2 in the end after all the patches/fixes/expansion/etc etc is a far cry from when it launched.

I guess some people expected it to be like that with D3 right at launch. Maybe they were kinda right in hoping that. But it's clearly what didn't happen. So they have a lot of work to do. And I'm sure they're going to keep supporting it. So changes will come with time. I guess some people just didn't expect to have to wait for certain changes or wanted them right out of the gate.

But I don't think D3 to D2 (in its final state) is a fair comparison.
