Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

That itemization problem starts in the mid 20's IMO. On my wizard, all of the drops are like level 18 yet I am level 32, and on my monk who is 26, all of the drops are still <=18 in level. Wizard is in difficulty after normal, I think NM while monk is still in normal entering act 3....

I did find my first legendary on my monk though at level 18. I found a head slot item called something like "see no evil". Although stat wise its getting old pretty fast...

I wouldn't know. My friends give me rares that they don't need anymore after they upgrade. Then I continually train my forge to forge rare items or search the market. After a while you will see drops, that's why they are called "rare." Keep playing.

I had one legendary item drop for me in my normal difficulty run through. I'm now working on another normal run through as a different class.

The itemization doesn't bother me beyond the legendaries not living up to their name-sake. They should be really rare, and really worth the rare drop rate.

btw how hard is it to attain legendary from a drop? Im in hell right now but have never seen a single set or legendary yet. much harder mf than d2 imo, but never the less fun :)

I've gotten 0 and I'm in Act 4 inferno now. I'm the only person I know that hasn't gotten one yet though... some of my friends have found 5 or more. But I do recognize it's RNG, tough luck.

I wish they had a damage per cast not damage per second. I dropped from 1.7 attack speed to 1.00 which dropped my DPS from 23000 to 18000 but my damage per cast is much higher and since I'm in inferno all I do is shoot 1 spell and run.

Inferno isn't very fun at times.

Divide DPS (Damage / Second) by Attacks / Second to get Damage / Attack.

My laptop has a gtx460m (which would be worse than the desktop gtx460) and plays the game great, everything on high with 1080p resolution. My desktop has a 5870, everything on high, 1900x1200 resolution, plays great. You'd be probably be fine with either one, although I'm not sure how well it'd play with 2gb of ram

Thanks though it looks like you're rocking an i7 as well on the lappy.

Went through all of Hell and the first act of inferno with 120 magic find + all the rest of the my play time which is about 75 hours now and I haven't found a single one.

The question is how many upgrades are you'll getting while playing the game? I haven't seen an upgrade since Tristam on normal. For a game that is based on making enough gold so you can buy gear upgrades off the AH you'd at least think the AH would work at least part of the time.

On a game play note, what percentage does Balial do his last earthquake move on Nightmare? I have wiped 12 times at 2% - 1% left on his health bar in a row. If it wasn't for the fact I might try to play CO-OP one day I'd just play on the better Asian servers. At 2% I just get warped back into a green exploding spot over and over due to lag. Well I seriously doubt that's the game mechanic on Nightmare?

my buddy has 3 but hes prolly played like 100+ hours hes retarded. I have found one which was cool and we were just killing azmodan a bunch of times. after about 50 kills he dropped the legendary. from what ive heard from other friends they havent seen one at all and theyre in inferno act2. . so id say pretty rare :)

Considering it's like farming for a world drop in WoW, pretty fuckin hard.

I found 2 legendaries in a single Normal playthrough. Neither of them were terribly good, but banked them in case I need the stats. RNG RNG RNG. On the other hand, I found a crap ton of great gear for my barbarian, but my monk isn't very lucky at all.

GREAT Demon Hunter items have been dropping while I have been farming a bit...problem is, I am a wizard and could care less about the DH stats! :( It really has been difficult for me to gear up, I was waiting to stay of AH until I heard it was safe (from all the hacking). now that I know the AH is not a security breach of any sort, I will head there in search for gear.

All I get are DH items as a wizard as well; my friend is primarily geared off of stuff I've found...I even got a legendary quiver. But unfortunately none of my friends are getting wizard drops; super weak.

I'm not far in as a Wizard, close to Act 1 completion on Normal. But I am finding wizard drops rare too. Lot's of strength and dexterity drops, not much intelligence, let alone class specific.

The 3 vendors in Tristram have some great stuff to start off with, check back every so often. Also in that one cave, the quest that has you lead the miner to find the 2 minerals, once he finds the last mineral, he sells some really good stuff, better than the Tristram vendors.

Is there a consensus for the DH later in the game (lvl 45 and up) as to whether two bows or one two-handed w/quiver makes the most sense?

DPS is king for weapons. Keep a good quiver but whatever gives you the most overall damage go for it. You can get stats elsewhere.

You remind me of a question i've been wondering about.

If you have X dps, and only add attack speed, that increases your DPS number, obviously.

Does that in turn effect the damage of your spells, meaning that attack speed increases your spell casting damage doubly, in raw numbers and in casting speed?

You're not forced to spend a ton of your time scouting for items. You can spend maybe 5 minutes and get a better weapon. That was all I spent on my DH getting to 60.

That's not always true. And a lot of it is just down to chance. You happened to check at the time when there was 1 weapon that could really benefit you. Most of the stuff you see is garbage, or lower level, or doesn't have the right stats.

You could easily say "just pick the highest dps weapon, get stats on the gear." Fine, but then you have to sort through a potential shit ton of gear on the AH to find what's best.

I would also say part of it depends on your class too. It's a lot harder finding worth while gear as a Wizard than DH or Barb, or Monk or something. I could almost guarantee that.

It's not really an "issue". The point isn't that everything that drops is good to use or an upgrade - that'd be absurd. There's value in good items being rare drops - it makes them valuable and exciting to acquire when they do drop. If you're simply progressing through the game, you're really doing 1 "run" of an area before moving on. Getting upgrades off of 1 "run" is unrealistic. This is why the AH exists, to exchange (at severely inflated prices) drops from many runs. When designing drop rates and itemization, blizzard has to work off empirical population statistics to make sure item exchange is on average balanced.

So what's your ratio then? 60 played hours and only finding 2 worthwhile items off mobs/bosses/etc doesn't seem that great tbh. I think most people are just lucky. That's all it is, luck.

We're not asking for every drop to be exponentially better. But we're asking that it make sense. Doesn't make sense to get level 40 items at 53.

Is anyone else miffed about the ability to remove gems from socketed items with no penalty whatsoever? Thats been my one issue with this game. I feel like the ability to just put gems into items with no concern as you can get both the weapon and gem back takes away from any item planning whatsoever.

I've been thinking about it and while I'd like to see the gem get destroyed when removing it from a socket, that may be too extreme for most people. I think that getting a gem back that is a few levels down from what was originally in the item is a fair compromise, I.E. if you remove a perfect emerald it comes back as a normal or flawed emerald.

Is anyone else concerned about this or is it just me?

Fuck that noise. Gems are fine imo.

They're not all level 40. The level 40 ones could just be level 53's with bad stats. That's not really the issue. It's also very possible that a level 40 item can drop with very good stats for a level 53 (rings, amulets, armor, off hand, etc.). The only real issue is weapons since their DPS needs to be scaled to level. Hence, why I bought a few weapons on my DH.

Yes it's all luck based, so there's no reason to complain about your individual drop rate without taking into account the population sample. Clearly the items are out there. If they're on the AH, they were found by a player. On average, the drops are fine basically.

I've not AH'd anything on my Wizard. I expect to do the same as I did on my DH: Buy a few weapons in the 50's and one at 60 until I decide what I need as I go into Inferno. I don't think anyone can realistically expect going through Inferno without visiting the AH.

The AH prices are not inflated. In fact, everyone's pretty much complaining about the exact opposite saying that item hunting is pointless since you can find so many good items for so cheap on the AH. Gosh, go figure.

lmao no. especially when you get to lvl 13 gems dude. and you spend 10 hours making one.

This would be an issue if gems stopped at level 8. level 8 is the highest gem that drops. They go all the way up to something like 13 at the JC which takes an insane amount of gold to acquire.

The idea was to eventually work towards these perfect gems (sinking a huge amount of gold in the process).

Agreed. Like any kind of selling, the user has to balance time vs. price. Sell it dirt cheap - get money quick. Likewise, if you price is appropriately it can take well over a day to get it sold; but it will get sold if you performed diligence and didn't overprice it haha.

I've had some xbows take the full 2 days to sell, but they did eventually sell. For not so good rares though, it's quick money selling them cheap though.

Of course there's reason to complain. This isn't a game based around an auction house. At least that's not the impression I got. I should be able to use at least some of the items that drop for me in game, and not ZERO.

Good luck with your Wizard man. Enjoy dying all the time in Hell because you can't find good enough gear anywhere. DH is completely different and as I understand it, kind of OP right?

Finding so many items for what classes? Conveniently leaving out such details. Aren't the majority of people playing like Barb, Monk, DH? Yeah, I'm sure there's enough of that shit to go around, which again, I already said.

RNG is RNG?

Is the vitality multiplier equal for all classes?

i.e. my barbarian lvl 44 has a 19x multiplier.

Wizard is the most played class behind Barb.

Again, what class I play is not the issue. I seriously doubt I will become an AH slave simply because I'm a Wizard. If you literally got 0 upgrades as you level, that's your bad luck / problem. I've gotten plenty of upgrades on my *surprise* Wizard. That has nothing to do with the game design. I've pointed this out very clearly, yet you ignore that statement. I'm not sure if it's because it's too difficult for you to understand. Either way, I will not explain why drops are fine the way they are - I've already explained it fairly simply.

Bottom line is: Wizards are not somehow item-bound to the Auction House to the point where the game is somehow broken for them as they progress because you're spending the majority of your time analyzing AH items. I'm not even sure why I have to even explain it.

In Inferno it's kind of a moot point: If you want to progress in Inferno you WILL visit the AH. Period. If you think you should be able to get everything you need with your own drops, then you are very naive and Diablo is not the game for you. Trading items has always been a huge deal. Instead of spamming the trade channel where things fly by at 50 messages a second, we now have a very convenient Auction House.

Is the vitality multiplier equal for all classes?

i.e. my barbarian lvl 44 has a 19x multiplier.
It's based on level. At level 60 it's 35x.

Actually this is a game based a lot, in part, around the AH. I take it you hadn't played Diablo before Diablo 3? The AH is actually an improvement.

Not trying to spam this thread, but i've had a couple questions get overlooked amidst all the qq =P

You remind me of a question i've been wondering about.

If you have X dps, and only add attack speed, that increases your DPS number, obviously.

Does that in turn effect the damage of your spells, meaning that attack speed increases your spell casting damage doubly, in raw numbers and in casting speed?

and, here's another question: What's the deal with buying gems on the AH? You sell them like an auction, yet when you want to buy one, only one shows up, but it isn't someone's auction... blizz has done something funky here

Attack speed just makes you attack faster. If 2 weapons have equal dps but different attack speeds, the fast weapon will have a lower base damage and the slow one will be higher.

This can affect the way you play in certain situations. Like for example, the Wizard's Arcane Orb consumes so much AP that there's no point in casting the spell faster. Therefore, a slower weapon of equal dps is preferred due the high base damage and high burn rate of AP.

On the other hand, you can use a fast weapon for a spell like Arcane Torrent because it channels damage over time and drains AP steadily. The slower the weapon, the slower your resource depletes. This is theoretically suboptimal especially if you have to move around a lot. Being able to drain as much AP as possible (not letting your AP gauge go full while you're moving around) makes better use of your resources.

yeah like if you get attack speed on your rings? it upgrades your spell dps and you can see that in your big dps number in the character panel. everything is effected by your weapon speed / damage.. so +attack speed means more weapon dps which means more spell dps.

this is kind of irrelevant. hes not asking about weapon attack speed. hes asking about a +percentage to attack speed

if i have 200-200 dps weapon my arcane orb hits for 100% weapon dmg it hits for 200dmg.
if i get a ring with +10% attack speed my arcane orb still hits for 200-200 dmg but i can shoot it faster.

what youre talking about is the benefit of faster weapons to slower weapons. but that doesnt mean anything because his weapon dmg doesnt lower when he gets +attack speed

He asked, "Does that in turn effect the damage of your spells, meaning that attack speed increases your spell casting damage doubly, in raw numbers and in casting speed?" which I basically responded saying that it just makes you cast faster and therefore do more dps (it doesn't increase "raw numbers"), but your damage doesn't actually go up (which he acknowledged already). I just went on a tangent about how that can be beneficial or not beneficial.

Correct. Now where i get confused is when i equip an attack speed ring.

So say my DPS number is 200. If i use a move which does 100% weapon damage, it'll do 200 damage correct?

With the attack speed ring on, lets say that number goes to 220. If i use the same move, which deals 100% weapon damage, does it now do 220 in addition to being able to cast faster?

Also, thanks for the replies <3

See, i thought that just adding attack speed did increase the raw dps number... maybe i haven't tested this enough.

It does increase dps, but not raw damage (I think i interpreted your words "raw damage" differently in my head). So if you do 200 damage 10% faster, you do more "dps," but your damage is still 200. I think I just read things wrong.

Ahh, see now i'm begining to think i understand the mechanics of the game incorrectly. You know the "Damage" number in your character screen? This changes when you add attack speed (iirc). Is this not the number which is used in skill damage calculations where they say, "220% weapon damage"?
