Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

This morning apparently. Still at work, so I wouldn't be able to test it. The tooltip apparently now says 1s (2s with the rune) to reflect the change.

Garbage.

Ok that makes sense because last night playing my Monk I didnt see the nerf that they were hit with.

You guys also have to remember we are comparing a fully developed game with expansion (D2) with a game that has been out for a week. I trust in Blizzard that there will be content added and probably a good expansion added in the next year or so. Now will the current content last that long? I highly doubt it, but I am of the mindset that I explore every corner of the dungeons that I find. I have run into 3 different events, including Jar of Souls, and they are great. Unfortunately though I think that part of the problem is the randomly generated events coupled with the random dungeons, you can never get the same combo twice (well not never but rarely). For me, the only reason that I have run into the random events is because I have only had time to put in an hour or two a night and that makes it so that unless I hit a checkpoint then I have to clear the area again, which means new dungeon spawn! So far I am having a blast with my Monk, I am usually ADHD with characters and builds but the two games I have run into recently that have kept that at bay are this and Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning on the box.

Inferno is no joke. Been trying to solo through it a bit and practice taking on those champion packs. Then they went and nerfed the monk 15% damage shield. That didn't take long.

I haven't seen any patches... how do you know this? Do they release patch notes?

I hope so. I guess we can have faith because they did alot of changes to D2 to make it what it was, including LOD. So there is still hope this game will improve and get much better. Rumor is that there are two expansions coming, slated for 2013

From Bashiok last night.

The Boon of Protection rune was approximately ten times over its budget on the benefits it provided, and it was quite simply a mistake on our part to let the rune ship as it was. We don't intend to take these quick and drastic measures often, but considering the severity of the issue, we felt it important to correct it swiftly.

We're shooting to post a full list of recent hotfixes tomorrow, and will be looking to answer questions once that's live.

While i too am hoping that blizzard will deliver, i can't help but remember that this blizzard is not the blizzard that made and well supported D2.

We'll likely see many pulled features from D3 show up in expansions like diamonds, skulls, enchanting, unique loot for bosses, etc.

Also, am i the only one that thinks the worst voice acting in the whole game is Diablo himself? I can't believe they picked someone that sounds like the devil from southpark. ERADICATED. Sounds so fucking retarded.

This is very true... But again, with the legacy that Diablo has had over the years and games do you really think they would release such a venerable game to simply fall flat? While it may not be the same company I have faith. If not, I know a production manager that I can go beat the crap out of if he doesn't deliver!! :D

If they have 2 expansions coming, you're right. They'll have to support the game so that people keep the faith and purchase both of those for another 60 bucks each.

Let's not get carried away here. Expansions shouldn't be more than 30-40 (Blizzard pricing here). 60's a little ridiculous.

Oh really? Okay, didn't know that. I just figured that we'd be seeing the next SC2 campaign sometime soon for 60 bucks. Sounds like they haven't sunk to CoD standards quite yet. Good.

Their expansions have always been $40 to start, then soon after (weeks to a few months) they drop down to 30, then 20. Then there are always deals that happen where they bundle the main game with the expansion(s) and make it super cheap. Makes it worthwhile to wait sometimes if you're the kind of person that doesn't adopt early, unlike me, who buys everything right when it comes out, whether it sucks ass or not.

so much hate :(

the voice acting didnt bother me actually thought it was decent. wouldve been cool for Tyrael to be the same voice but come on.. its been a decade :p cant expect them to get every voice the same.

I thought the story was kind of clever too. I mean he consumes her and look at how awesome he looks after he kind of takes on her features as a lord of hell its cool to me idk.

some stuff is annoying though like champion packs that have fast / chain / vamp. Fast minions destroy my ice wizard

I just got to Inferno last night due to time constraints of my job, wife, new puppy, etc. With the SS nerf, my DH is going to be basically useless for anything past Act I. I was not one that abused SS; I've always used it as a tool to get away from mobs, not as a "stand there and spam" ability. I knew SS was going to get nerfed, but until now I wasn't sure how they would handle it. Now that the change is out, I can safely say that THEY NERFED IT IN THE WORST WAY POSSIBLE. If they wanted to reduce the duration, they needed to actually buff other defensive abilities. If they wanted to nerf it without any ability buffs, they needed to just add a 4 or 5 second CD, so it couldn't be spammed.

Inferno isn't just hard. It borders on simply unfair. From a DH perspective, it is now going to be nearly impossible. A DH essentially gets one-shot by everything in Inferno. That would be fine if you could kite things with any sort of consistency. Unfortunately, blue/gold mobs in Inferno have innate 80% resistance to slows. Combine that with the fact that they are already fast, and with 4 affixes per group, nearly everything is going to either have fast or teleport as an affix...maybe even both. All this added up means kiting is not as viable of a strategy as people think it is.

I've been ripping through Inferno Act I on my DH, killing every champion pack I see, its not that difficult, its more or less tedious. I have a feeling my build will be nerfed too :(.

I havent been ripping through them on my monk. More like getting ripped up. I've had to rez rush a few packs and some I just cant kill. Getting into melee vs arcane/firechain/desecrator packs is suicidal.

This weekend will give me time to perfect some kiting or something, I'm not sure what is going to work yet. Hard to play a ranged monk.

For me, the hate is intensified because this game has so much potential, and they failed to realize it many ways. The got the core gameplay down, it's feels solid, and is addicting and fun as hell. Almost everything else however was streamlined or simplified.

The dialogue of the bosses makes them sound like pissed off 12 year olds, rather than epic demons who have a devious plan. And i guess it wasn't the voice of diablo that i disliked, just the delivery of a couple of his lines make him sound borderline retarded.

This is bugging me--what the heck is SS?

The problem with SS was the combination of SS and stacking crit with night stalker. This was the abuse they wanted to address.

Blizzard went and pulled a retard move by nerfing the base SS skill instead of other aspects of the combination (hello, night stalker?). It even would have been better to address the 3s duration rune itself instead of blanket nerfing the whole skill. This way the other runes can be explored. They are now useless and the duration rune is a necessity.

I didn't understand a word you said but I like your style! :p I take it Inferno is harder now due to some balancing?

It makes you wonder... is the same team still working on the game? most of the rune choices seem coherent and well thought out. Then they start ninja nerfing shit like this

They have started hotfixing abilities in response to groups that rushed through inferno. Monks had a damage shield for them and the entire party that prevented 15% of your total hitpoints. That is now capped at a far lower number.

They also had a damage bubble that prevented all damage (like WoW pally) that also affected groupmates. Both abilities were nerfed after a 4-monk group used them (without telling anyone; bliz was watching) during the race to world-first to beat inferno.

But they still havent fixed the Quickening/Sweeping winds infinite spirit bug. I'm sure that will be soon too.

If anyone is serious about D3 like they were with D2 (btw all the complainers are the ones that poured hundreds if not thousands of hours into D2 comparing the two), then 30 hours is pretty much nothing in the grand scheme of things.

If they don't care enough to get a single character through the difficulty levels, then Diablo isn't really a game genre for them to be very honest. They're better off getting faster gratification from other modern games that end in 5 hours.

Hrrr. I think you missed the point entirely. D1 and D2 were fun from the start.

What I don't get is why these nerfs are coming out now. I've had my SS/Night Stalker build in mind since they released the Skill Caculator. It was an obvious choice given the synergy with Crit Rating. Are you telling me none of this though of played, or tested in closed beta? WTF were they doing during beta testing?

I dunno, dude. I don't see anything clever about the story at all. As far as voice acting goes, it's very inconsistent. Some of it is fine, some of it is delivered without any feeling.

It's dissapointing because everyone says Blizzard is the best of the best at story and polish, yet I'm not sure anyone who says that has read an actual book or played a polished game.

As is D3. And Diablo 2 pre LOD had a lot of the same issues were seeing now.

Yes, and it is 11 years later. Learned from their mistakes, they have not.

D3 is fun, like I've said many times now. It's fun, but by no means a great game.

It is glorious seeing Blizzard's reputation unravel though. I feel like I was a part of watching a company grow up and blossom into a flower and now it's shriveling up and dying.

I dunno what idea of their reputation you had, but after I played WoW for so many years it was basically a good gaming company that released stuff (games/expansions/content) and then had to spend months fixing everything. And they stuff they fix unbalances and breaks other things.

To me, in the last bit that I played WoW (haven't for maybe 2-3 years now) they got out of control with the class balances issues. Everything was based off PVP and it was pretty screwed up imo.

Would be interesting to see if the same thing happens if/when they release PVP for D3.

I agree, the voice acting is pretty poor in this game...though Deckard Cain has always sounded terrible.

Very cartooney sounding for the most part.

It might just be me, but to this day I don't expect any game to have great story/voice acting. In fact sometimes I prefer the corny stuff in games because it's humorous.

I really didn't have an issue with the voice acting in D3. Some of it's good, some of the Demon lines are weak, but I honestly don't even give a shit. It's not a real factor that drew me in or keeps me playing. It's just like added content so I take it for what it is.

Wizard's force armor build got nerfed :(

Build was pretty broken but like the DH fix, they didn't address the core issues. Also, the ninja nerfs are annoying as fuck. This is not WoW for god sakes.

I just think it ruins the atmosphere in games, which is one of the things the Diablo universe had in spades.

all the nerfs are in preparation for the nerfs for pvp.

It will eventually get where X says Y is op in pvp so NERF Y each and every week.

that is what killed rift and made wow players go balistic, pvp was the only thing they gave a F about.
Now you are going to see it in spades in D3.

like was asked above....what the Hell were they doing in the so called beta. THIS DOESNT WORK, ok make a note...lets do lunch

They have said over and over again that they will not nerf for pvp. That's why they don't want the PvP to be competitive and there are not rankings.

I guess the benefit of leveling slowly (I'm a 37 DH) is beneficial in times like these. I haven't even seen SS (which I assume is SharpShooter?) yet so I can't miss it.

I do have faith that we'll all get balanced enough to muddle through Inferno. I just hate that hardcore players who exploited whatever skills to cruise through Inferno are now getting them nerfed and having casual players like myself pay for it.

What was the nerf?

It makes any damage you take that does more than 35% of your health do only 35% of your health. This means you can have low vitality, stack a ton of health regen/life steal gear, and any big hit you take will do only 35% of your health, which regens quickly if you have low health. This is useful against bosses that do slow, but big hits. It's pretty useless where you're getting hit a lot (basically everywhere else lol).

edit: whoops. I misread. I don't know what the nerf is exactly!

Sure, for some games that is fine. Like Just Cause 2, the voice acting was perfectly cheezed.

Smoke Screen.

DH has the fewest dmg mitigation passive/spells of all. Even with the nerf, Wizards have far more options in mitigating direct damage. What's left is the Shadow Power with 65% rune...

Caltrops may seem good in Normal and NM, but elite boss packs aren't affected by traps in Hell/Inferno - it's basically a wasted slot. And you're not standing around long enough for the 10% crit rune (for Caltrops) to be of any use either.
