Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

Zillian is permabanned for allowing his GF to log into his account and play it seems.

LOL... just lol

And yes--itemization is still fucked, and it's annoying. If i want, i should be able to achieve the same dps by:

-Straight Base-Stat, being a hard-hitting non-crit spec.
-Straight crit, seeing tons of them, but they're not that huge.
-Straight crit dmg, seeing a few crits from time to time, but they're MASSIVE!
-Straight Attack speed for crazy sustain.
-any combination of the above.

How hard is it to use a spreadsheet to figure out what the values of the above would have to be to achieve balance?

Instead, you have everyone rushing the same two stats, crit and crit damage, with base stats and attack speed as icing on the cake. There are still too many 'worthless' stats that roll on gear too. How is it that WD's are still the only class that can use an 'off-stat' (see: gold pickup range) to better their skills?

The plethora of runes they have for skills should have been leveraged to achieve the above. They obviously had the idea with Witch Doctors, but then stopped short of their vision. Anyone who actually plays D3 would know all this--the devs clearly have not.

D3, while I have had fun with it (somehow sucked 200+ hours into it, more than BF3!), never came close to D2. In D2 I would do Mephisto/Baal runs and still have fun doing them, even though I never really got elite drops. D3, I don't have fun doing runs...I do them as efficiently as possible because the drop rates are so insanely low that messing around and actually having fun means I won't get any items. Leveling and gearing up my monk gave me a bit more time, but I haven't played him in weeks again.

Paragon levels was a decent idea, but still didn't go far enough. I need to be able to level up individual skills to make them more powerful - to make my character MINE.

And at the end of the day, I really think the map design and direction are pretty lame. Finally decending into hell in D1 was incredible; the atmosphere, the much more adult/dark nature of the game. Whereas Act4 in D3...just lacked any "wow" factor at all.

@Yoshiyuki_Blade I sold a 4 property rare pattern that I already knew for $1 on the RMAH. I would like to thank the person that bought that for buying me a cheap Zunimassa's Marrow. Not a bad flip huh? :)

D3 gold is $0.28 / million. Is that a new low?

In D3's defense its only been out a few months.....I mean how many Baal runs did you do in the first few months of D2.....the answer is 0 because it was a part of the expansion pack.

PVP + Expansion pack should make D3 significantly better.....Still likely wont be as good as D2.

I dragged myself back into this game a few nights ago, kicking and screaming.

I will admit , I am having fun playing a Barbarian. Did they add more narrated note finds and npc's? Seems like I am finding more.

No, you are just noticing them more because barbarian god mode gives you free time to look around.

"Less of everything" generally doesn't = evolved in my book, and I don't see how anyone that played a lot of D2 could consider it so. Players coming from WoW could certainly feel right at home with much of the design, and that wasn't due to a mistake the devs mades.

This is very similar to that Why don't you play BF3? thread, where I posted about how FPS games are launching with fewer features now instead of more. In D3 most of the maps aren't randomly generated, there are very few socketables, most of the neat weapon/armor mods from D2 have been removed (not replaced), there is no PVP, itemization is fundamentally flawed, etc., etc., etc...

As you mentioned, a lot of the mechanics changed...but what were they replaced with? For the most part, a lot of it was removed without being replaced with anything new, in the name of simplicity.

I think I can get behind this gentleman

Wow, that's almost right at the minimum sell value ($0.25). So you basically took a near worthless recipe and netted about 3M worth of gold out of it eh? This is assuming you didn't xfer to Paypal and netted $0.85 after the AH cut. Not bad!

Yep! That's what I got out it! Then grabbed a cheap Zunimassa's Marrow with pick up radius with the profits for my WD. :)

I tried to take advantage of suckers on the RMAH last night... i previously had my paypal account set up as the payment method, so i went to bnet and removed it.

Turns out they won't let me use bnet as my payment method unless I purchase their authenticator, or have a smartphone. Why SMS shit won't work is beyond me.

Such a scam. Guess i'll just hook up my paypal again..

Well, just this week I've read about smartphone malware that captures 2-factor authentication (SMS text to a smartphone), hides it and forwards it to the fraudster so...even that isn't all that secure any more.

Well, just this week I've read about smartphone malware that captures 2-factor authentication (SMS text to a smartphone), hides it and forwards it to the fraudster so...even that isn't all that secure any more.

If you allow your devices to get compromised, there is nothing any company can do to prevent intrusion. From a security standpoint, a company can only do so much to help protect your account. Even if the password must be 20 characters long consisting of upper, lower, numbers and special characters, its useless if someone writes it down where the world can see. Security is only as strong as the weakest link. If you store that same password in say google docs, but your google account password is simply "password" your entire account is weak, there's nothing blizzard or any company can do to prevent that. The same goes for keeping your devices (phones and computers) as clean as possible.

Fraudsters are always looking for more and more crafty ways to get information they need. There is no silver bullet secure implementation that requires the user to not actively worry about their personal accounts.

I think some of the smartphone malware is coming from apps that are being sold. Many of them have built in trackers that report everything you do on your phone regardless if it is related to the app you purchased. Congress is getting into it now as it's that big of a deal as lawmakers use smartphones also.

Wow. That's pretty damn heavy-handed.

Well what ZillianOP said was that he has been making sets of armor for guys on his stream for a long time. They might give him 3 billion gold on stream to purchase items for their character from the AH and others in the stream. Seems that some of those guys were botting to get that gold. So he initially got banned for "being in the company of suspect individuals."

So he called Blizzard to rectify the situation. Blizzard was all ready to give him back his account and the rep asked if he had ever shared his account with anyone else. He said his GF and brother. So the rep permabanned him on the phone. Then he appealed it twice and Blizzard both times said that because he was taking gold from botters (even though he always gave the excess back) and the sharing thing he would never get his account back.

So it's permabanned. Seems like since they obviously watch his "show" on Twitch and the VOD's are there to see him helping the community by choosing gear for the viewers, they could rescind the ban.

But I think they are trying to make an example out of him like they did Reckful when he accidentally traded a guy 180k gold. The GM said that he saw Reckful do it live on stream and that he deserved to lose his gold for joking around. The GM talked sh*t to Reckful and threatened to permaban Reckful's account if someone from the stream confronted the guy who took the gold like Reckful could stop that from happening.

I got accused of account sharing myself in WoW when I got hacked in 2011 when I hadn't paid for WoW since 2010. I contacted a second GM that actually researched the problem and saw that I indeed hadn't paid for WoW since 2010 and that someone had figured out how to play people's accounts without a form of payment. I got a nice apology out of that but still I shouldn't have gotten a long terse tongue lashing for account sharing first. The first guy should have researched it instead of jumping to conclusions. It's guilty until proven innocent with Blizzard sometimes it seems.

Not good for customer relations. :)

So I grabbed a pair of Zunimassa's Trail which upped my dps by 13k, got new bracers which increased my dps by 2k, and also gained 10 AR overall. Only 6mil for both, woot. Sitting at 114k dps now.. crazy.

Next upgrade has got to be a new helmet with max crit, good int, and arcane on crit.

Zunimassa's Trail's are so hot.

The Market is as dead as it ever has been. I'd say is more than Half of the Items in the Auction house are gone. Searching for my standard search list and Instead of getting 2 or 3 pages of stuff that matched what I was looking for I was getting less than a page.

I'm guessing Christmas and holidays are cutting into play time...........I kind of wish they made a simple method for giving gold in this game......I'd have my relatives give me D3 Gold instead of what ever stupid useless shit they plan on getting me.

Drops have been Higher than normal for me lately 9 drops in 3 hours last night and 11 drops in 3 hours 2nights ago. Normally I'm around a drop an hour. A witching Hour dropped as well. ---168 INT --- 53 VIT --- 40 CritD --- 90 Armor ---- 8 ias ---- 5 Pickup Radius---- Not as good as my last one but I'm using it for the 5 Pickup Radius....I was at 0 previously.

Zunimassa's Trail's are so hot.

yes, yes they are. I hope they're not too afraid to do some more gear balancing in the future, because there really are too many BiS items. Zunimassa's Trail are a good example--they're just too fuckin good not to wear.

If only they'd realize that buffing less-attractive gear, vs nerfing the good BiS items, would go over so much better with the community.

Not as good as my last one but I'm using it for the 5 Pickup Radius....I was at 0 previously.

I got a cheap tal's helm for farming experience, which had 7 pickup radius on it.

I got bored of farming paragon last night so i bumped up the mp to 4, and was doing some key runs in Act 2 (no keys of course, that dude still hates me) with my dps helm on (Andarials Visage).

I've decided now that I want one item with a little pickup radius on it.. being at 0 is downright painful--often you have to run back over the same stack of gold because it doesn't register or something.

there is some talk on D3 forums about adding Pickup Radius into Paragon level which would be nothing but a good thing. 0 pickup radius sucks. Even if 90% of my gold comes from auction house I still like to pickup gold on the ground and don't want to have to work for it.

Roomba (my new monk) has 35% pîckup radius and it pick everything visible on the screen. It definitively live to his name !! I have at least one equipment piece with 7 pickup radius on my chars.

Hot. go back to 0 and feel the pain.

I'm not sure if i'd like that, or it'd have to be small enough, like .5 a level or something...

Especially against reflect mobs, i have to pace my health globe pickup. If they were all picked up immediately i could see myself wasting globes and not having them for when i need them.

I'd rather have pickup radius work with stackable items (gems, tomes, and pots) then give pickup radius on paragon level. Then again, both would be nice.

I'd be fine with .2 or .1 pickup radius per level, that would mean 20 or 10 at max paragon

I have 39 pick up radius on my WD and it's sick versus reflect mobs. If I can place myself so I don't get mortared to death, I can just stand still and the game will automatically heal me with 1 orb . I just have to spam my attack. Even mobs that hit like freight trains I'll just stand beside as I know I'll get healed automatically anyways. Now if it's a group of heavy hitters I run like a b*tch still. Mommy! :) Of course my damn pets still kill me on reflect mobs that teleport as I can't stop them from attacking them. I just have to eat that death.

Plus it's in my best interest to clean up all the orbs as a 5 stack orb buff takes me from 90k to 179k dps as long as I can refresh the buff. Refreshing my buff is simply grabbing another orb. I don't know how it would work on Ubers as I've gotten 1 key fragment in 300 or more hours of play since 1.05.

Holy shit that's a lot of DPS just from picking up orbs.

But let me get this straight--if you are not moving, and have 3 orbs within your pickup radius, the game will only pick up one at a time?

1 point per 10 levels. .5 is too much at P100 you'd have 50.

Hell even 1 point per 20 levels would work at P 100 you'd have 5 more radius which is all you need to pick up what RIGHT under your feet.

Aside from their console plans, wtf is blizzard up to? Have they announced anything? It feels like forever since the last patch. There's still tons of useless runes, among countless community suggestions that will hopefully get to their ears. I want this game to keep getting better.

Holiday vacations I'd assume, they are still human, they are probably putting most of their man power (the very little it is) into PvP leaving only smallish updates to keep people interested.

I really hope you're wrong (not the human part lol) They better not have a "one and done" approach to the balancing patch they made. Still plenty work to be done.

Seems like it. I make so many orbs it doesn't really matter to me. :)

I doubt that. D3 might be years from being ready for pvp. Everything in the game right down to the dirt under your nails is unbalanced.

Going to call it now: Resillience. The single most retarded thing Blizzard has added to any game.

Except they said no specific pvp gear.

http://diablo.somepage.com/news/1435-diablo-iii-patch-107-announced

They've also said that the game will not be rebalanced on a razors edge around pvp. Something along the line of...

QQ1: barbs are overpowered in PVP!!! OMGRAGEQUIT
Blizzard: hah, probably.

They've also stated that d3 is not designed around being an E-sport, further emphasizing how little they will focus on perfect balance.

I don't care about rank or balance as long as its fun. They can avoid a lot of heat if they focus on pve aspects along with pvp. Straight up death match will be very boring very quickly

So few people online I solo'd some MP7 Ubers.....Fucking hard as shit alone. Breaker and Kool were the worst Bubble and Grab is 5 times more annoying when you are soloing.

Something is better than nothing though. As long as they just introduce the PvP for fun initially with no ladder, tournament, etc people will not blow a gasket over the imbalances.

I doubt the classes are going to be that unbalanced.

People assume the Barb is going to have the upper hand because of their raw power and defense but they don't have too many skills to control with. DH can run and Gun, Wizard can freeze lock and Diamond skin and fuck people over with Slow Time...Kool Style, Monk can out heal with Quickening and life per spirit spent, and witch doctor is ugly.

If they are having balancing issues holding them back its likely Combo's Like Slow Time, Living lightning, nova, and critical Mass.

I highly doubt that "balancing issues" are the reason PvP isn't out yet. Its more likely some major bugs that Blizzard can't fix preventing them from finishing PvP. Also motivation from upper management is likely quite low. D3 has been released and the bulk of the revenues collected their willingness to spend resources on D3 that will result in little revenue gains is probably pretty low.

I am gonna hazard a guess that your damage is way higher than Yoshi's. Yoshi solos mp10 ubers all the time on his wiz. Are you using your wiz to do solo ubers?
