Any other wiz out there that calculates exp/hr?

I seem to max at around 40mil, which seems low compared to what ive heard for monks and barbs. I'm not sure if its just my build/playstyle or a limitation of the class in general.

Here is my build that just wipes inerfno up to mp3-4, but i run mp1 most times

so gross. You have 0 movement speed. Fix it.

Wizard is so slow because he has no movement boosters and has to stop to attack. I haven't calculated it but I can probably get above 40mil simply because I farm at MP3 or 4 and at 220k DPS I explode everything instantly........But even at MP3 its not as fast as my Barb who doesn't have to stop for anything but mobs and get 50% movement speed boost from Run Like the Wind.......Wizard is probably the slowest class for leveling.

If only Teleport worked like D2's teleport.....The wizard would be the fastest.

I bought a Witching Hour with MF for farming with my Barb, and I can see why Wiz/DH players complain about Reflect Damage now. Without the extra life steal on my belt (I have 5.1 LS on my Skorn, 3 on my belt, no LOH at all) Against a lightning+RD elite I can blow myself up in 2 or 3 HotA swings (1.5-ish mil a hit per mob).

That's with 600 AR 45k HP.

That's just silly. How the hell is a Wiz supposed to deal with that? I mean, they can only get 3% life steal and whatever loh they can muster on other gear.....

They need to make RD a timed ability with an aura or something. Maybe treat it like the 'shielded' affex.

As a Wizard you just learn to run like hell onCe you realize the elite mob has RD...run-n-gun best as you can. Wiz's were never meant to bath in arcon beams or tank a RD mob.

That's why every wizard has diamond skin on their bar--it's pretty much mandatory if you don't want to die. Since i use Skorn and Meteor, i can usually dump all my AP while DS is up.

Also, i thought Blizz said that, like a long fuck time ago, they were going to do just exactly that to the reflect affix (that is, making it turn on and off)

I bought a weapon specifically for life drain. I use Blood magic for an additional 1 %. So I'm at 3.5 life drain.....all this does is prevent me from getting 1 shot'd from my Akon beam. as long as I'm paying attention it gives me just enough time to dispel Akon and then hit them with Infinite Diamond skin via Living Lightning and Critical Mass.

.......I really hate reflect damage. I think Blizzard fucked up on this one primarily because I don't think they were expecting people to surpass 200k DPS.........I can't even imagine some of the 500k DPS wizards.

I think stevedave thinks movement speed is cheap.

He made fun of my boots last time. :(

Steve, if you can find me boots with 288 dex, 90 vita, 80 all resist, 56 cold resist, AND 12% movement speed...for less than my unborn child, I'm all ears.

That's why I plopped 50mil for a 1.3k 300int 5LS skorn. It made DR trivial most times. There seems to be a bug with DR and health link, but other than that I can even take hits from packs with DR and stay alive. What hurts me the most now is stuff that stops me from beaming. Knockback, caught in fire chains, and fast are a few examples that interrupt me from beaming, and in the short time I get interrupted, I can die.

Teleport has helped but I noticed a dps drop from improved archon. Maybe MP3 is a better choice until I break 300k dps buffed (equivalent to 240k improved archon that was fine dps for MP4 steamrolling)

That's why you see mainly CM Wizards running around. They use Critical Mass to reset their Diamond Skin shield as much as possible. The rest of the Wizard specs one or 2 shot themselves if they aren't paying 100% attention at all times to the affixes. My DH used to run "Loaded for Bear" and I one shotted myself every other now and then. The first 5 times it happened it was cute. Then it soon became loathsome.

Your damage and defense isn't as important as your speed when farming.....which is why it is so expensive. I'd drop 5k damage for 12% movement speed any and every day.

Yours is especially strange because you have movement speed on your pants but not on your boots. But at least your boots have 288 dex which would be hard to replace without leaving a dent in DPS when moving to movement speed........in your case you should get a Prowlers for your speed. But RusBarb's boots aren't even that good you could find comparable boots with 12% movement speed for cheap.

But i don't have to tell you just how important movement speed is because you are using fleet footed to get an additional 10%......just imagine an additional 12%...Hot...you'd be cock of the walk with 34%...hot...You'd get all the ladies.

Say it with me....MOVEMENT SPEED.

Actually, I don't use Fleetfooted anymore, not for farming. I timed my farming runs using Fleetfooted versus using Combination Strike. Most of the time I was quicker with Combination Strike. The other times, the times were pretty much dead even.

My bottle neck is not my speed. I tend to use Dashing Strike to get from one large group of mobs to the next. In my case, the damage helps more.

So in my case, I'm not dropping 5k damage for 12% speed. And Lacunis are shit until you can buy a pair that cost a few hundred thou.

I'm getting 45 - 50 million XP/hr. Yea, it's no 65 mill/hr spinning to winning, but it's decent I think. Also, I just dinged paragon 77. Will prob hit paragon 78 tonight, followed by 80 before Monday.

Look Harkamus this video showcases movement speed vs no movement speed. You can spot the slow poke at the 30 sec mark.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mK2jbxhQ3KY

Yes, but this is not gonna help everyone 100% of the time. It doesn't help me. It slows me down. I've timed myself several times. I know what works for my build and my gear.

Of course, if you care to donate a few hundred million gold, then by all means. Until then I will play as effectively as I know.

Until I can find/afford boots with my stats + movement speed, anything else is gonna slow me down in that slot. And Lacunis are junk until they can meet or exceed the damage I already have.

For other people, movement speed prob helps, but for me with my gear it does not. I don't know what else you want me to tell you.

Hark I was just looking and my Monk has 2/3 the elite kills you do lol

You were higher level than me at one point. :p

Meh. I play only 5-6 hours per week and simply can't afford better gear. Any boots better than mine are in 2-3+ mil range, I don't have that much gold sadly.

Can't farm 40 hours per week.

Would I want +30% speed? Absolutely.... is it feasible? Nope.

I was only messing with ya Harkamus. :)

I fail. I thought I was responding to stevedave. Sorry. Didn't notice it wasn't even him. Hah.

I did some more testing of a similar kind today. I bought some gear to try Tempest Rush again, which lets a monk move around faster than a barbarian spinner. I was at MP0 doing the same Alkaizer runs that I normally do. Bought a LS skorn with 320 or so dex and 181% base crit, Stone of Jordan with Spirit regen, and Inna's belt to keep up Sweeping Wind.

Did a few runs to get the feel for the mechanics. Then I timed myself. I ended up quitting the run after the time went past what it normally takes me to clear MP1 using the Thunderclap/Cyclone tornado spam build.

I guess that further proves that in certain cases, it's not speed that's bottle necking the player.

My monk gear isn't shitty either, not even when I go down to Tempest Rush build.

I put the Skorn, SOJ, and belt up for auction again after I finished. Then I swapped back to tornado spamming.

I was tempted to go 4 pieces on inna's for the free Sweeping wind but I lose 2 Spirit per second by dropping my Hellcat Waistguard so I never tried it out. With the Tempest rush build you really have to go all the way for it too start working like droping 20k DPS for 2 more Spirit per second......Also you'd spend less money building a regular monk who can do more than just farm....But obviously I have a bit of a thing for movement speed and couldn't pass up a turbo monk.

Another of my barb friends hit Paragon 100 today......Leaving me with only 2 other active players. That being said I have room for some peeps if anyone is interested...Have a Great wizard, a good WW barb, and a turbo monk.

I didn't have problems with spirit when I was Tempest Rushing. It was still slower. I had unlimited TR going.

Movement speed is not the end all be all.

Challenge accepted. If you are able to keep up with my movement speed I will give you a whopping 1 million gold. Or 38 cents in other words.

Anyone playing HC these days? Wondering if anyone can give me a pricecheck on this:

Steve, there is nothing for me to challenge. Do you not understand that there are other variables besides movement speed?

I have tested on my monk and for me, I clear faster with my regular build and on a higher MP.

I have tested quite a bit on my way to paragon 100. I know what works for my monk. With your gear set up, movement speed works for you. Tempest Rush probably works for you too. Great. Wonderful. Here's a beer. Neither of those work for me. I'm not switching gear and/or builds over to something that is less efficient for me.

As much as you love that movement speed, it's a hindrance at worst or an equal at best on fewer occasions than it's worth FOR ME. <---key words in capital letters.

I'm just trying to help you out here. You want to farm better and faster get more movement speed. Out of all your gear is the be biggest and best upgrade you can do.

there are other variables besides DPS.....and for farming/leveling Vitality and All res are rather useless. 150k dps at 12 Movement speed is slower than 145dps at 24% movement speed. The majority of the time spent playing is not fighting or killing but rather moving between fighting and killing. The only time that extra DPS will help over movement speed is when fight high level Monster Power.

I know. But, I also tested it for myself. It seems counter intuitive, but so far I haven't been able to farm faster than my normal build. I thought it was weird at first too that I got more xp with the standard cookie cutter cyclone spam build, but xp per hour is xp per hour. If I get it faster with the cyclone way, I don't really care.

I hate to disagree but I've found killing faster is better than moving faster unless that movement speed increase doesn't come with a loss of dps. I went from 24% movement speed to 12% to gain dps and can farm more efficiently (faster) with my Wiz. You have to find the right balance.

I think it's a matter of what monster power you're choosing. if you're picking a MP that is lower than your level of dps then movement speed is king. If you're spending time to kill each pack then more dps is king.

Basically what Harkamus is saying he'd rather farm a higher MP at a slower rate as he gets better drops, more xp per kill etc. Stevedave probably farms at a lower MP so it's all about how faster he can get to the next mob to one shot it and move on.

Kind of. Not really. Farming paragon is still faster on lower MP levels unless you're boatloads overpowering through higher paragon levels with massive overkill dps. I still farm paragon on MP1. My response was regarding Tempest Rush even on MP0 being slower for me than my normal build on MP1. Heck, I quit the game without finishing the Alkaizer run using Tempest Rush after the time went past what it normally takes me on MP1 with cyclone spam build.

Comparing MP0 to MP1 using my cookie cutter cyclone build, the clear times are also indestinguishable. Stuff tends to die when I look at it with my gear, so I get more XP in MP1 in the same time because of the slight increase based on higher MP level. Going to MP2, I lose XP/hr because the clear time starts taking roughly 5 minutes longer per run. Again, this is based on using my cyclone build. I didn't try Tempest Rush past MP0 because it failed my personal litmus of 15 minutes or less for a clear. There's no way I can approach 50 million XP/hr with TR. It takes longer with my gear, and that's with Tailwind rune which boosts speed an additional 25%. And yes, I did swap pieces of my gear to get unlimited Tempest Rush going.

And testing with just cyclone build and 12% additional movement speed on boots (for 24% total movement speed from gear), again was at best equal in time, but usually took longer because I haven't found boots comparable to what my regular boots are.

Finally, I do need the res/hp even in MP0. I can one shot myself on reflect if I drop the res/hp of my existing boots for 12% movement speed (because I can never find comparable boots on AH, and when I do, I can't afford them). What that means for me, is that I have to throttle damage on reflect mobs or run away waiting on cooldowns to refresh. That means wasted time using boots with run speed that don't have stats comparable to my existing boots.

People say you don't need res/hp for low MP. This is simply not true for every class/every build. I'm monk. I face tank shit til it dies. I have no qualms with steve. He found what works for him. I found what works for me. I don't think his main is a monk either. His highest character is a wizard if I'm not mistaken.

Tempest rush doesn't do a lot of damage, so it is only good for killing stuff if you are way way overpowered, more than you are

It is like everything else in this unbalanced game, the effectiveness varies all over the place depending on the circumstances

Same with monks being horrible except in certain bands of existence

This is why I use Near Death Experience and Seven Sided Strike. I've been farming on MP4 now for quite a while and I might die once every 4 runs. It feels comfortable to me, and NDE really covers and bad shit that might happen. I only have 33k hp, 4.9k Armor, and 460 AR, most people would consider that pretty low /shrug

you don't use tempest rush to kill things only to travel...sure it does some damage but wave of light is what does all the killing.....Reduce the cost to 40 and I have 29.17 spirit per second.....I'm dropping 390% weapon damage like its candy. I can drop 20 before I have to recharge.....on high MP's I have to drop down to 21 Spirit Per second and drop a bit less.

Any build can use tempest rush as sprint. I was referring to tempest rush as damage, like barb whirlwind (which is way easier)
