Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

Gah.

Couldn't find anything to upgrade that wasn't a lot, so I dropped 40 million on Vile Wards. 4600 damage boost.

Well as long as it's an upgrade and you're happy. Congrats! :)

I was naive to think I could win an auction on a Won Khim Lau with crit and an open socket. It was 40 million yesterday. Today, it was at 220 million when the auction ended. I was watching it. It could have sold for more if someone sniped it at the last second, but you can't see it since the item disappears from the listing instantaneously as soon as the timer runs out.

After dropping the 40, I found boots for 7 mill that bumped me 1800 damage. I finally broke the 100k damage unbuffed mark.

I realize playing monk that this must be the most expensive class ever to gear up. My DH friend spent 5 million and broke 100k without Sharpshooter. Granted, I handed him some of my old monk gear, but still.

EDIT: I dunno if I dig the look of Vile Wards. I suppose it's nowhere near as bad as some of the stuff in Diablo 2 though. Green sock hat anyone? (Shako)

EDIT 2: I just found a fist weapon on AH for 1.5 million that boosted my damage by 14.6k. Not bad at all. 115k unbuffed now.

Just hit lvl60 a few days ago and then last night got to inferno difficulty. I think I hit a major wall though since I get my ass handed to me in inferno, even the dippy zombies in the cathedral can nearly 1-shot me, and it takes a good 15 shots to down just one. The first pack I come across is also reflects damage so I died a good 20 times killing that. I found out the maximum respawn timer is 30 seconds.

The thing is, Act4 hell on MP1 was a cakewalk. I was mowing through that shit like a boss. Going through Act4 hell was by far the fastest and smoothest play through of that act I had done yet, didn't have a problem at all with anything even Izual (got him on the first try) and Diablo (second try). Is inferno that much of a jump in difficulty? I don't remember having this much trouble the last time I jumped to the next difficulty class.

You can look at my character here (the listed DPS is not 100% accurate due to me having sharpshooter)

I know my gear is garbage the only thing I bought from the AH was the bow (paid about 6000 gold for that), everything else I found myself on the ground. I have about 2.5 million gold but part of the problem is I don't feel like trolling the AH to buy my character into success, that feels a little hollow. But is it the only choice I have?

It is that much of a jump in difficulty if you just now got into inferno. I say that because it means you probably have not farmed for gear yet or come into some drop that you could turn for a profit on the auction house. Inferno is a massive gear check. You need resist, armor, and some way to replenish life.

I have a xbow upgrade for ya. harkamus#1584
EDIT: Also, just found boots for ya. Look me up when you're in game some time.

A lot of us in this thread have been playing since day one though, so while inferno was nerfed three times and is easier for us, for a relatively casual player it's hard. If I recall correctly, the first nerf made it so damage wouldn't increase when more players entered a game. The 2nd nerf reduced the monster damage. The third nerf came recently after the monster power level introduction. It was found that monster damage didn't scale properly.

Turn off monster power in inferno to begin with, it works differently compared to normal-hell monster power.

In inferno....
Act 1 MP0 < Act 2 MP0 < Act 3-4 MP0 < All acts MP1 < All acts MP2, etc.

Turning on monster power brings all monsters regardless of act to LVL 63, which is the level for act 3 and 4. It's a little backwards in inferno, but that allows you to choose your poison (all acts same difficulty) once you cross the Act3 MP0 barrier.

Anyone have any thoughts on what I should get next? I want to replace the set belt with maybe a decent witching hour, but I'm thinking about trying to save up a couple hundred mil for a good Nat ring with at least 5.5 crit and maybe some other useful stats

Edit: My dps varies depending on which second ring you catch me with on. I have an offensive 6 crit 225ish dex Hellfire, a 4 crit 175 dex AR/Vit/Armor Hellfire, and a 6 crit/CD/LOH ring

Drop the Inna's belt unless you have a thing for the .33 spirit/sec. Get a Witching Hour. That 1% crit is overall less damage than the increased attack speed and crit damage from the Witching Hour.

I want your Won Khim Lau. :(

built a ww barb for $hit and giggles - it is by far the most OP in terms of speed - going back to CM wiz main it feels so damn slow - spent around $20 mil kitting barb out and i could dance around in mp8 - ok so 50k dps wont kill quickly but it was frankly hilarious. Side note no-one should have an issue with mp0 - mp2 gear on AH is so damn cheap now.

I want to try the monk version using Tempest rush, but don't have the gear for it.

Yea, I've been thinking about getting a witching hour with dex/armor/resist, I just haven't caught one cheap enough.

I think the WKL was a bid somewhere in the 50-60m range. It's a decent one, hard to get any better for anything remotely reasonable.

Edit: I lied, I got curious and went and looked. The WKL was actually 75m, but still worth it imo. Ones like it are going for a lot more

Just snagged a legendary wand(I forget which one already..LOL). For 1 mil it increased my DPS by 5k(mostly due to crit damage going from +48% on my previous wand to +100% on this one) and my attack speed is now at 2.09 attacks per second. My armor went up a bit too, like 300 or something.

Now I want to find a better source and maybe some better bracers.

Anything else that I should look into upgrading that wouldn't break the bank? (I only have 300k right now, but should be at 800-1000k again by the end of tonight or tomorrow). Everything but the weapon should be updated.

And those pants are the only set piece I found so far, and were better than my previous. I didn't actually buy those. Of course I would get a monk set piece though...

That would decrease my health a lot though?

You're right. I didn't look carefully enough.

I looked over the profile again for a while. I couldn't come up with a slot that could be upgraded for cheap where you wouldn't lose a lot of life except your shoulders. Gear that has "everything" is very expensive. But I think you can find shoulders that would be an upgrade.

I went ahead and got a decent ish Witching Hour with the type of stats I was looking for (58 Dex, 52 Fire, some Armor, 8 IAS, 43 CD) for 40m. Was 7k damage upgrade over my set belt lol. With Breath and Companion that puts me at 145k, plus all the bonuses on my gear to Sweeping Winds, it is pretty crazy. I kind of wish I knew how it all added up and worked with attack speed so I knew how much damage it was doing. I'm pretty sure it destroys the damage from everything else I do.

I also got some MF gear and a cheapish Manticore (2.5m) for my Scoundril so I could switch to him instead of Enchantress, He's using one of the Hellfires I rolled with 18 MF, it is pretty funny watching him launch fireballs. It makes me kind of sad about how Hellfire works on melee though, because the fireball is mostly useless as it just launches off in to the distance to hit nothing instead of the mob you are attacking.

I think I'm pretty much done at this point until I get enough for a Nat ring with Crit and some Nat boots

Why Manticore? The scoundrel is great for crowd control with a Windforce. Even if you wanted to dump as much damage as possible on the scoundrel he'd prob still take longer to kill stuff than your actual monk. My Windforce scoundrel keeps stuff away from me while I work on other mobs. Then I switch to what he's knocked back, which a lot of times is elite packs.

Have you encountered the Dashing Strike bug yet? It's where you sort of die, but not really. You get dead, but you can't release, and your life either stays at 0 or goes up to a few hundred and back down as your non-existent body keeps getting pummeled. Anyway, that happened to me the other day on a jailer elite pack. I had 5 stacks and was kinda annoyed to have to log out and start a new game because of the bug. So I just sat there watching as my scoundrel just took the jailer lashers out without ever taking damage. His Windforce kept knocking them back. Took like 60 seconds, but was still neat to see.

Also, what's your armor now with the Witching Hour? I'm around 5300.

I don't really want stuff away, I want it near me getting hit by sweeping winds!

I don't use Dashing Strike. I general still use Seven Sided for the extra save type deal, and it helps a lot with reflect which is my only real threat of death unless I'm doing something stupid.

My Armor is only like 4700ish. I don't have +Armor on many pieces, only shoulders and belt off the top of my head.

Some high level barb give me some gear advice for a WW Barb?

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/TM1-6291/hero/8596096

I have 75M to play with. I don't know if I should get the IK Chest armor for the 5th set piece, which I see most don't go with. Upgrade IK belt to a better one (it was cheap)? Get rid of IK gloves and get better ones? Maybe I should just keep saving?

Any ideas? :(

I'm not on all the time, but you can add me on D3 and i can give you some tips on how to spend that gold, if you would like. I also have some gear that you may have.

Suprfire#1356

You just need to change your build around, and get to know what your stat priorities are based around what type of playstyle you prefer.

Thanks for the replies guys, it turns out I was trying to play on Inferno with MP1 like you explained- I forgot to turn it off after I beat hell mode. Or more accurately, didn't even think about it since I didn't know it worked differently in Inferno. When I turned it off everything was much much easier.

Thanks for the gear offers I will look you guys up next time I play. However I am also happy to report that once I got my NV going I actually found some new gear myself- some new boots and also at the very end of my play session, a cindercoat armor which provided me with a bit of an upgrade. The new gear combined with turning MP1 off made things much more like I expected them to be.

I think I've hit a wall in what I can upgrade at a reasonable (~50 mil) cost

here's my profile:

Time to start really saving (or get a really lucky drop). Unless I'm missing something obvious?
I was thinking about getting a witching hour and a ring w/resist all to make up for what I would lose from my current belt. I would gain like 15k DPS, but I'm not sure how much losing the 3% life steal would hurt though.

BTW, the dps currently shown is with BR up. I'm really @ 150k

I'd say get an ax or mace for your main hand (for Wep Master crit chance bonus), and more crit chance on your jewlery (and crit damage if you can swing it). High attack speed and crit chance make the WW build work much better. When I was using WW I didn't feel really comfortable until I was @ 55% total crit chance, like 1.8 attacks per second, and 1200 LoH.

In 1.05,if I remember right, attack speed isn't as much of a big deal as Fury drains per rotation vs. a set amount over time. But still, the faster your attack speed>more hits a sec>more times LoH will proc.

You're the same boat many geared players are in. Only slight upgrades and they cost a fucking fortune. Any real upgrades for me would cost hundreds of millions of gold at least.. something I'm not going to be able to farm anytime soon.

There comes a point where the AH and you must part ways ..unless you wish to buy items that you want.

Right now this issue is what is drying up the D3 experience for me. So either farm your ass off all day , every day you can for a while and hope you get a decent rare/legendary/set item to drop that's worth a damn or get even luckier and get a drop you can actually use. That's pretty much your choice for now.

The only farming I do is paragon which is only because I want to level up to 100 some day. I haven't gotten bored yet, but when I do, I'll take a break from the game like I did from 1.0.3 until this patch. So far I I've gotten drops that sell for at least 10 million every paragon level. I'm only 39. Today I made 79 million before AH cuts. I don't pack any MF gear. The only MF comes from my paragon level and mp level.

Great for you. Most people barely have enough gold to afford a single set for dps.

And you also seem to have some great luck with drops because you are getting things that are actually worth something. The vast majority of stuff I get is trash , once in a while I get something kind of worth while and I pop it up. Even then there are tons of items just like it so I'm constantly against other players that will gouge to get rid of something and to make anything off it instead of vendoring it. More often then not , even when I set a fair or even fantastic price .. items do not sell unless they are extremely in demand (as any Free Market would be like).

Perhaps its bad luck for me but I've got a bunch of friends that also have A) Never seen a set item drop B) Have geared , paragon level characters C) Have spent days farming and only have seen 2-3 legend's and only a few of us got one that was worth even selling. I don't wish to spend 12+ hours a day getting possibly a few legendary items that will likely have horrible stats that I can't sell , the random stat rolling system was a bit better it would be more worth while to spend that kind of time. If I could get some good stuff to sell than I would build an MF set and try to see how that would work out but I just spent my last few million buying my 4 piece. But I don't feel like wasting hours every day farming for crap that won't sell.

I found a nats ring this weekend with 4% crit and armor. Whats your budget? Maybe we can work out a deal that would benefit both of us?

The RNG is crazy like that. I've found like two set items ever in 30 paragon levels, but then this weekend I had two set items drop on the same level within moments of each other. Go figure.

Sold an Amulet I found for 200 Mil over the weekend.....could of probably got more but who can complain about getting 200 million.

250 Dex
100 Vit
8.5 Crit
80 Crit Damage

Bought me a few upgrades/downgrades.

I got a new weapon but it dropped my DPS about 3000 but I gained 2.6 Life steal which makes handling fast and reflect more easy.

also got new gloves, Amulet, Pants, shoulders......all pretty much the same as what I had before just better stats. Some of them were free upgrades because I sold my old gear for the same price that I bought my new gear for.

also FINALLY made a hellfire ring with crit.

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/dirkdirden-1579/hero/10075789

now I officially say any significant upgrades will be 100 million +

What is your benchmark for a base 'dps' build? Sure mp10 farming may cost billions, but legendaries aren't even needed for low MP levels. There are numerous guides that build 60s from scratch to MP2 worthy with only 3 million.

Regardless of what the drop rates are set at, that top .01% will always be expensive. People were happy with getting some legendaries at all before, and bis affixes weren't required for legendaries to be good. Now that they're dropping like candy, it must have near perfect rolls to be decent, everything else is shit. People always ignore the other side of the equation: if good to great gear goes near nothing on the AH, then it will cost almost nothing to get great gear.

If inferno baseline was harder in terms of gear requirements, I'd agree, but its been nerfed so far into the ground that no one should complain about bad gear. Yes there is shit gear, and a lot of it, but if you can clear MP1 with ease, everything above that is bonus. There is no achievement tied to higher MP, so there is no need for higher MP beyond your personal enjoyment. And if you're not enjoying it, just stop playing.

That is a nice hellfire ring. I've only rolled twice, but they've both been decent... my friends hate me. http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/DukeLeto-1627/hero/801081 (this shit hasn't updated)

Got MF/All Res the first time, this time got Crit. Still lots of room for a better one, so i'm still farming that shit.

I found a killer deal on the AH last night... Inna's Temperence with 68 int for 7.5 mil. They had 30 more int than the next cheapest at 10 mil. yay!

The extra movement speed and attack speed are fuckin awesome.

Just curious, but what MP level are you farming at? If I'm not mistaken you're pretty decked out and decently high level paragon. I only have 121k unbuffed/140k buffed as a monk, and can only do mp5 solo but with more deaths than I want. I still stick to mp2/3 for just paragon farming. Legendaries still drop quite a bit even in the lesser MP levels for me. Usually, I can find a few things that I can sell on the AH.

I still don't have a hellfire ring. I have 8 machines though. lol

So I was tired of feeling underpowered (squishy as fuck) at MP4 on my 125k DPS wiz. So I started leveling up my 13 monk. It's amazing how fun this game is just smashing stuff...putting high level gems into a bunch of socketed gear is so OP, I'm roflstomping MP10 in normal at the moment, got up to level 32 in a ridiculously short amount of time. This game is so backwards...you feel like a boss at low levels, then feel like a jackass with 10s or 100s of millions of gold worth of gear later on in inferno. :p

That being said, I'm really enjoying the monks skills. I think I may swap from wiz to monk, I have some decent weapons I can swap over for LOH and do some decent damage once I hit 60.

It's only a matter of time before power leveling sets in. lol. I can see it now. Some crazy high dps paragon 100 power leveling someone in mp10 inferno for $$$.

Monk's great isn't it? My first 60 was a DH. Then I leveled a monk to 60. I hardly play my DH anymore. But for shiggles and ghits, I put all my monk gear on my DH and saw crazy DPS.

melee is just op. My buddy accidentally put it on MP10 once... we couldn't kill shit, but he still tanked it like a boss (i died a fuckton)

side-question: Has anyone purchased an entirely new set of gear for leveling paragon? (prioritizing +exp stats)

I've been messing with the CM Wizard build for some time now. It had a lot of requirements that I didn't have handy at the time, so I spent what little gold I had on shitty items with the right stat configurations. Even with a huge drop in DPS, I found myself living longer and killing more enemies. It was kind of a cascading effect. I sacrificed a ton of DPS and mitigation on my weapon and helm for weaker ones with LoH and APoC (necessary for survival/dps uptime). But to compensate for survivability lost through mitigation, I had to resort to survivability-based runes like Blood Magic Weapon. It helps a lot, but now my health bar spikes up and down, making some burst damage situations really bad lol. The Act 2 keywarden is a real bitch. It's a fun build though, I love to just faceroll through MP6 most of the time with it. I even managed to do a key run in Act 1 at MP10, though I had to fall back on Force Armor, losing the 5% crit from Pinpoint Barrier. Someday, I'll gear properly for this. I might fall back to MP 2-3 for fast runs and focus on money.
