Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

So I got a pretty beefy 1200+ DPS Echoing Fury to drop last night, but I'm a bit confused by the stats on it. At work right now so I can't post any links, but from best I can tell, it has only 1 random property on it instead of the 2 according to the Bliz site. Mine looks kind of like this:

+Min DMG
+Max DMG
+% DMG
+attacks per second
fear on hit %
DEX
Crit %

According to Bliz's site, Echoing Fury has the first 5 properties I listed above as guaranteed, then 1 of the 4 main stats also as guaranteed (mine rolled DEX), and another 2 random properties. On mine, it appears to have only one random property, that being the Crit %.

I'm thinking that my second property may have been either +MIN DMG or +MAX DMG, which just got rolled into the already guaranteed DMG modifier properties. Either that or it's bugged. I had always thought that the random properties on Legendaries couldn't roll as the same properties as the guaranteed ones, but I could definitely be wrong.

I can post screenshots later, but anyone have any thoughts?

On a positive note, it was a 17K DPS upgrade for me. Sitting pretty at 144K damage now, though I do miss the 500 LoH on my old weapon. But, I'm also killing stuff quicker (MP3) and it all seems to be a wash.

Damage is a random property as well.

What part of looking for legendaries sucks? It's not perfect, but I can find what I need.

The part where if I want, say, a Thunder God's Vigor, but I want one with a specific % of "chance to cause Shock Pulse to erupt from your enemies when you hit them", and I can't search for it.

If you want a legendary with a special ability or an affix not normally found on that type of item (Schaefer's Hammer, SOJ, etc.) then you have to manually go down the list and look at each one to see if it's what you're looking for.

Pretty much this. But also for example, I tried looking for two pieces of Nat's set yesterday because i wanted the 2-piece set bonus of 7 crit. Trying to find which two were not overpriced for a shitty item, plus had like crit on legs or movement speed not on boots, was damn near impossible. I got burnt out of looking at one item at a time so i just gave up. I do not like how you have to look through either all legendaries or one legendary. You should be able to search items in a set, among other things. It'd also be quite nice if you could use operators like, pants with int, but not this one that is flooding my serps.

Got 3 legendaries in 4 runs yesterday (2 MP3, 2MP4), 2 staves, worthless, and a legendary mighty belt that was a POS. :(

Fuck at least you're seeing them. It's been about a week, with lots of playing, since i saw my last legendary drop :(

But at least the two I've ever seen were good.

Regarding the Windforce and Scoundrel--i went to look at Windforces last night, and either it was nerfed recently or someone here had a typo--i could have sworn i read people had Windforces with 40% knock back... the highest i could find was 5%.

If you can survive without the Templar (heals and charges) the other two can raise dps. The enchantress has IAS and armor buffs for a little more survival, the scroundrel has 3crit which can be a lot with enough crit dmg. I've heard scroundrel is amazing with high WF bows for cc.

Mainly I'm using my Templar for MF, heals, and charges.

Losing the heals might suck, I'll have to try. The 3% crit from the scoundrel could be amazing, as I'm sitting at something like 460% crit damage right now. The one good thing about going skorn/meteor is I don't need trifecta gear anymore (crit dmg, crit%, attack speed); just the crit dmg and crit %. My rings are pretty low right now, if I can get those up a few percentage points on chance and another 20-40% combined in damage, I'll be consistently above 150k.

I have 50% crit without the scoundrel (45 + 5% base). I use the other passive from the scoundrel that increases damage by 10% for 3 seconds after a crit. It can only happen once every few seconds, but it's great. A lot more noticeable than 3% increased crit chance.

Did you look for the wrong one? The legacy version might have less knockback. Knockback is supposed to be 25% to 50% if I'm not mistaken. Maybe it's 20% to 50%. I dunno, but way higher than 5%. I bought one the other day for a friend that was 47% with crit damage too. The one on my scoundrel is only 41%, but still good enough for my needs.
I would advise just to stay away from that place. Its a dead end now.
I'm lost. Can you elaborate? Is d2jsp a crap shoot now?

I didn't find the Windforce to be even as effective as a cold damage wep on the Scoundrel.

Just stack him with VIT ,attack speed, and a buriza-do kyanon.

I've got one on mine , although not a very good one.

Its just really gone downhill imo. All the trolling, nobody trades, everyone lowballs. The AH basically made jsp obsolete.

Alright, sounds like the 15% cut from gold AH is worth it not to deal with the little kids.

Well aren't you a Debbie Downer? I disagree, the game is ALL about the time you spend farming. It's the law of large numbers that you could apply to playing D3. Whatever the droprate is for legendaries/sets, you kill enough monsters and get enough items to drop you will average out on the mean of the droprate. You just need enough samples for this to happen.

Perhaps I am but the reality is that upgrades hit a point where they become either luck or overly expensive. You can farm for days/weeks on end and not see a damn thing worth while and make only a bit of money in the process (a few million lets say). That is what frustrates me , its not because I don't know what gear my character wants and I'm just going for the best pieces in the game , in reality I know what I need but the stat arrangement makes it much more expensive than something of a lesser quality.

If you play D3 enough , your going to hit an upgrade wall UNLESS out of pure luck you get something that isn't garbage or you spend real money.

If Blizzard would actually take a deep look into the RMAH and did something about the crazy inflation then it might solve the issue but this is the nature of making a game like D3 with such a price model. How many of you farm D3 for 6-8 hours a day? I know I sure as shit don't , that would be incredibly boring. When I get on and do a few key runs or an ubers with some friends , that is what I want to be doing. Farming is fine , I'm not knocking that mechanic , but the amount of farming required in D3 to actually afford some of the better set pieces and weapons is just crazy and for me at least its ruining the game which is actually pretty great.

I want to be focusing on the fun , the gameplay , not being frustrated over my lacking prospects unless I get some lucky gear drop.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I make a few million a day. Sometimes I have dry spells, but I still make 1-5 million a day either picking up gold or selling items on AH. I made 25 million yesterday. For every 5 legendaries I find or so, only one of them is worth keeping/selling on the auction house. How long has 1.0.5 been out? I've made close to 200 million since selling stuff. You do really notice the drop rate increase especially as you get higher in paragon level and start playing in areas past mp1. That extra chance of white mobs dropping loot is quite noticeable. This is where most of my legendaries come from. Every once in a while, I get a random legendary from popping a barrel, but that's a rarity.

I can say this. The drop rate is a helluva lot better in this patch than 1.0.4. It was 1.0.4 and prior versions where I was stuck not finding anything, meaning my character never progressed.

I don''t know, my last 5 runs at paragon 18, 2 MP3 and 2 MP4, I didn't find a single thing sellable on the AH. The drop rates are definitely better, particularly for legendaries, but even at this level the stats items are rolling with are atrocious for me.

On the other hand, my friend just had an amazing set of Ice Climbers drop that he sold for 50M. All you need is one...still waiting.

My first lucky drop was an Oculus the day of or day after 1.0.5. Sold it for 33 million or so. Then I hit a dry spell sorta and only sold things for a million or 2 each. Lucked out IK gloves which sold for 10 million or so. Also lucked out on an IK hat which sold for 20 million. Found two monk set helms which sucked, so they went for a few hundred thou. Finally, lucked out on a Bul-Kathos sword with crit and an open socket. 103 million. Found the other half of the BK set sword, which only sold for a million.

In that time, I've boosted my character from crappy 40k dps as a monk to 93k unbuffed. 50% crit and 406% crit damage is fun stuff.

Magic Find, Magic Find, Magic Find, and Magic Find. Oh, did I mention Magic Find yet? It should be the highest priority for anyone sitting at a low paragon level. Once you hit over 300%, it's not a matter of WILL the good stuff start dropping, it's a matter of WHEN.

Sure, there will always be extreme cases where someone with very little MF gets a ridiculous legendary to drop that sells for multi-millions and he's pretty much all set. That's hitting the jackpot right there, so don't expect it to happen to you. The better way is to stack the odds in your favor as much as possible. And you can do that in only one way - getting your MF as high as possible while killing mobs as fast as possible.

And even then, you can expect to see a plethora of absolute crap to drop. I'd estimate that only 1% or less of my drops are AH worthy. Even most of the legendaries that drop for me get savlaged (I have a whole stash tab full of craptastic Gidbinns, Ivory Towers, Storm Crows, Frostburn Gauntlets, Wizardspikes, etc).

While my wiz is certainly nothing special in the grand scheme of things, I'm currently sitting at 144K DPS and over 400% MF with a 5-stack on MP3, at only paragon level 38. My highest selling single item was a 970ish DPS Echoing Fury (with a -15 level requirement) that sold for 6M shortly after 1.04, and I've never had more than 12M gold on me at any one point. I consider myself pretty lucky with my latest drops, but I attribute that to focusing my gear on MF and pushing my % as high as possible.

I prefer the natural approach to increasing MF, and that's leveling paragon. I'm in favor of killing speed and efficiency, farming as many elites as possible in the shortest time as possible. I never sacrificed magic find for damage. So far it's worked well for me. I do notice that extra 96% magic find from being level 32 paragon.

Well maybe its me , I don't know. I'm sure if I played enough and eventually over time I would get what I want but with PVP around the corner and TONS of game/class balancing that comes with it I just can't see why I should other than to hang with my friends.

Here's the Echoing Fury I got last night:

7cd01983715057bda87f2ab0e47e2c54.PNG

And according to the Bliz site, properties for Echoing Fury are:

  • 687.5–1323.6 Damage Per Second
  • (370-638)–(605-1187) Damage
  • 1.41-1.45 Attacks per Second
  • +112-296 Minimum Damage
  • +149-391 Maximum Damage
  • +36-40% Damage
  • +0.21-0.25 Attacks per Second
  • 10.0-20.0% Chance to Fear on Hit
  • One of 3 Magic Properties (varies)
    • (+150-169 Intelligence)
    • (+150-169 Dexterity)
    • (+150-169 Strength)
  • +2 Random Magic Properties

Since my +DMG% is right at 40, and the range is very small, I'm guessing that mine simply rolled at the max. That leaves me thinking that the only other property possible would have to be either +MIN DMG or +MAX DMG. And since both the maximums on the +MIN and +MAX are within the normal range, I guess I'll just never know.

it's weird that it rolls 'attacks per second' instead of 'attack speed'

that's one hell of a good one-hander... why couldn't it have a socket?

Attacks per second effects main hand and off hand. If it says + .25 attacks a second, the offhand also gets +.25 attacks a second faster.

Unless you're super duper fast, .25 attacks per second will always be faster than some increased attack speed. Only a few items have +attacks per second.

I think it can have a socket as one of the random magic properties, right? I had a legacy one drop, low DPS :(.

Scouring the AH a bit for other Echoing Furies, I do see a lot of ones similar to mine but the MIN DMG is higher than the maximum for the base roll. I saw one with +305 MIN DMG, which is +9 over the maximum for the guaranteed roll, which tells me that +MIN DMG is definitely a possible property for this weapon, and is extremely likely what mine rolled as.

Shame too, since LoH or a socket on that thing would have made it truly "legendary". I'm not complaining though - I'm extremely happy with it so far, and planning on keeping it.

Legacy stuff doesn't drop anymore. Low rolls can still happen if you're not in mp1 or higher, but shouldn't happen too much since modifiers get rolled based on monster level, which in mp1 or higher is always 63. EDIT: Unless you meant you had a legacy one drop before the itemization revamp.

I meant the latter. ;)

for another 100k you can get signification upgrades for your gloves and armor they are both pretty bad. Its been a while since I have seen someone using level 48 gear.

What's wrong with the gloves? And I just bought a new armor, not sure why it didn't update yet.(Every 6 hours?)

No crit, crit damage, or increased attack speed on the gloves. Also, no resistance on them. Tweak auction house search parameters until you find a pair that you can afford that has the stuff you want. At least, pick up one of the damage boosters.

Other than jewelry, gloves are the only slot that can have all three together, crit, crit chance, and increased attack speed. Two on a pair of gloves is still relatively affordable. One is definitely affordable. All 3 is probably more than most people can afford, unless the values are low.

Crit chance can spawn on hats, jewelry, gloves, and bracers. Some set/legendary items can also have them.

Insane, 400k dps

Though some of that stuff is good indicator
2 pc WD set
Tal Rasha's amulet

Those +%element damage modifiers seem like they really stack up!

Edit: Here's another one with 400k dps. Includes a 2 min MP10 Video of zultan + siegebreaker

Very impressive DPS, but a lot of achieving that high DPS is through the use of the +% elemental damage modifiers, as you mentioned.
However, It's worth noting that + % Elemental Damage only applies to Basic (Non-Elemental) damage weapons. You can see that both of those wizards are using regular (Non-Elemental) weapons.

If anyone is confused by this, it simply means that, for example, Armor pieces with "+8% Holy Damage" , will only factor that extra 8% Holy damage calculation with damage (in this case, from the main-hand weapon) that is not elemental (i.e. weapon doesn't have +300 min/max fire damage , etc; but instead simply +300 min/max damage)

First time since the patch I haven't found a legendary in a day.

I feel like I treated someone wrong today or something, wtf. lol

I don't doubt that is the best drop you've ever had. Its a skorn worth many millions of gold. Its then a contradiction to say its not awesome.

Yeah, that drop is quite amazing by any standard I've seen so far. Any drop I've ever received has more than paled in comparison to those rolls!

I just snagged these last night for 300k, trying to get my crit back up. Still only at 36% after the upgrade. It's becoming very clear that if i want to get back over 45% without a source, i'm going to need at least 15 million gold.

What's funny to me is that while i have 612 All Resist now, anything above ML3 i still feel like a squishy little bitch.

So has blue commented on this? It seems like a bug to me. How could that be intentional?

Wouldn't it make more sense to try to pair a +fire damage weapon with a +fire elemental damage modifier?
Was a dry spell today too. I found some but they were worthless.

Yea me and my buddy did 2 MP2 act 3 farm runs and 3 ubers bosses on MP4, found absolutely nothing. Very fuckin annoying. Did they nerf drops? I have never seen so many 150 dps ilvl 61+ one-handers.
