Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

Just finished nightmare last night, how much not 1 single boss dropped any yellows in nightmare?

Also, hell is pretty hard... :/

You think thats bad, when I downed Diablo on Hell difficulty, all he dropped was 2 crappy blues ... I was livid.

lol my first play through and I'm on Normal, killed the Skeleton King and he drops not one, but two Yellows.

items dont get destroyed tho, so eventually wont there be 100k copies of every legendary item, causing the prices to be almost nothing?

That's what I was thinking as they are trying to treat it like a MMORPG by releasing DLC later...I don't think it has the same replay value as Blizzard thinks it does...from different forums I've read people are leaving left and right or just farming for the AH????

I'm planning on rushing my wizard through to get him to inferno. I'm at like lvl 30 right now. I get owned too badly on my monk and for some reason dropping the hydra and kiting shit is about the only way to play inferno without millions spent on gold. After playing to 30 wow does the wizard ever kill things quickly. I was playing with a monk at the same level and watching him get dominated while I just walked up killing things. running through hell with sub lvl 20 gear on @30 and just dominating everything is weird

This is why they have adjusted drop rates to account for the presence of the Auction House. It's also why people are complaining about not getting any good drops. They made the drop rate such that the market won't get flooded with the good gear any time soon. Also, something to note is that it's been a month since release. I think it would be naive to assume that the player base has maxed in terms of unique players, that number will grow over time. As far as active players, who knows, but the unique player count will grow until the game is no longer available, so the market for unique purchasers will also grow until the game is no longer available. A corrolary to that, is that some items will become "inactive" as players go inactive, so some items will in effect be taken out of the market.

Only if you kill them 1st time (on normal mode) or if you kill them at level 60 with 5 stacks of valor buff regardless of difficulty.

Yeah, and come patch 1.0.3, it will only guarantee 1 rare with 5 stacks. However, elites will guarantee 1 rare too. It makes things less boss-centric which I like.

any word on when 1.0.3 will be released? I have noticed some of the chances they talked about have already been implemented like bonus damage in multiplayer. Are they just going release each new feature out one at a time and the last feature will be 1.0.3?

Why do people keep posting that the drop rate was reduced - Blizz stated in the AMA that the drop rate was not adjusted for the AH (gold or RM). Why people keep parroting this bs is beyond me :p

Me and both of my friend who farm constantly notice the drop rate have changed without looking anywhere.

Until we went through B.Net forum and realize we aren't the only one who notice it.

If a huge group of people notice this problem, then something is fishy going on.

Blizz said the AH is NOT dynamic, but they have confirmed that when deciding what the droprates of things would be they did take into account the availability the AH would bring (so they're lower than they would have made them, if there was no AH).

Exactly. This is why a 200+ page thread is frustrating. People don't search for information or read, they just parrot the same bs.

Bashiok said:
The AH doesn't have any affect on the literal drop rates of items depending on what's available.

What I said, and what is true, is that with far more players and an increased proliferation of item trade, we have to factor in how many items are being found by players and how quickly a player can gear up by 'sourcing' items from others through trade and the convenience of the gold auction house.

If we say "a player should have X power in Y amount of time through drops" and completely ignore that the time factor can be reduced by simply having access to more drops through trading and the auction house, players would be gearing up far quicker than we've determined they should. It has nothing to do with the auction house per se, but the general ease at which players have access to more items than they would without it and us needing to keep that in mind while balancing drops. It would be rather poorly thought out if we balanced drops completely ignoring all of the ways players can gear up, and trading is certainly one of them.

Obviously everyone wants the best gear possible as quickly as possible, and us attempting to mediate that through design that takes all factors into account is not always going to be a popular notion.

Thus the AH doesn't directly and actively have an effect on drop rates in game. However, as I said, Blizzard designed drop rates with the AH in mind. Lower drops rates exist because the AH creates an ease of access to higher gear. Lowering drop rates helps to compensate for the higher rate of gear acquisition players now have, thanks to the AH.

im a level 58 wizard in Hell putting around around 10K dps and its still no walk in the park it can be very hard and get f'n owned quickly.

Was the adjustment made before or after launch? From what I've read, they tuned the drop rates for people who don't use the AH. As a result, high level gear from the AH became so widespread that people felt that it was mandatory:

D3 Dev Reddit AMA said:
The drop rates were tuned for a player who would never use the Auction House. For the majority of internal development we didn't have an Auction House, we all played using our own drops only. I've personally leveled multiple characters from 1 to 60 internally before the game came out using only drops that I found - we all did.
When we say we "took the AH into account" that means it's one of many factors. ie. some players will choose to play without trading, some players would play in a group of 4 where they share drops among each other, and some (as it turns out, many) players would use the AH.

Three weeks after launch player's gear is much higher than what we were expecting. When I killed the Butcher on Inferno for the first time I was using a weapon with 492 DPS. There are also certain passives which are much more powerful than they were during internal development. One With Everything, for example, was basically never used internally because we didn't have an auction House. With the auction house, it feels like a mandatory passive. In retrospect we should have seen it coming. In the game's current state though, it's a powerful Monk ability that gives Monks a big survivability boost and has some interesting (some would argue fun, others would argue negative) effects on gearing.

So the tuning seems to be the exact opposite of what most people expect. The game was in fact designed to make gear accessible without the "need" of the AH and Inferno was intended to be much harder than it turned out. People basically overgeared Inferno with the help of the AH.

That's something I'm unsure of, as Bashiok did not clarify. I'm assuming he was speaking pre-launch, but I don't know. He basically said the same thing as the Reddit interview though. They took the AH into account when defining drop rates.

Though they may have adjusted drop rates again, post launch, judging by the other Reddit statement.

im a level 58 wizard in Hell putting around around 10K dps and its still no walk in the park it can be very hard and get f'n owned quickly.

My wizard is now level 59 in ACT III hell, my DPS is only 4K right now (5.5k with magic weapon), and I'm now obliterating most mobs including some of the brutal ones that where killing me in act 1 a few days back, switched to this melee wizard build. Almost all my gear is level 50 - 57. Haven't needed to visit the AH in a few days. Got my LPH (life per hit) up to around 400.

This is my build.

Spectral Blades (Deep Cut) (M1)
Meteor (Star Pact) (M2)

Frost Nova (Cold Snap)
Diamond Skin (Crystal Shell)
Energy Armor (Prismatic)
Magic Weapon (Blood Magic)

I switch Magic Weapon to Venom Hydra if I run into a mob or boss that I can't tank, but that hasn't happened much. I'm not willing to farm for hours to get items with IAS and LPH, so I'm using Magic Weapon (Blood Magic) to get my life steal higher (have 2.5% life steal on my weapon as well).

It sounds like this build requires some very pricey gear to be survivable in Inferno, but works good in Hell with cheap stuff. All my gear combined was under 250000 gold. Was able to pick up a lower defense shield with 24% blocking and increased crit chance (would be nice to have increased crit dmg too, but not necessary for me yet).

As for the rumours of reduced drop rate, nothing scientific, but in the last 2 days of play after work I've found 3 rares. I don't run MF gear, and am not actively farming. However last week I was accustomed to finding about 4 or 5 a day in the couple hours I play.

i dont have 250K gold to buy a new set of gear = / do you play alone or with other people? it becomes really f'n hard when you have a group of people until they patch the god damn insane damage monsters do while your in a party. I do 10K with magic imbune weapon.

i can destory stuff pretty good as long as nothing touches me and i have mana lol. if i get hit once or twice, im done for.

They hotfixed this several days ago:

June 8
General
In cooperative games, monster damage will no longer increase when additional players join the game. Please note that monster health will still scale based on the number of players in a party

Bug Fixes
Tyrael no longer has collision when he is your active follower and his damage has been reduced
Pots of ashes in Act I and vases in Act IV will now drop less gold when destroyed
Resplendant chests will no longer spawn in the Underbridge
Fixed a bug where players could turn in the same quest repeatedly and always receive rewards as though they were completing the quest for the first time

if i get hit once or twice, im done for.

If you are getting hit as a DH/WD/Wiz and you die that quick, you either need to better dodge those attacks or build vitality and lose some of that damage.

damage > all

if youre a wizard just get some frost nova and diamond skin to help survive its better to have that dmg to burn em.

spam low cost runed arcane orb and its like a free kill

I play alone (90% of the time) otherwise with one other player, could explain why I can survive with such low DPS. I didn't jump out and spend 250K on gear, happened piece by piece over the last 5 or so levels. Think the most I've dropped on a single piece was 40K. Most was under 10K. The idea with that melee build is that you crit frequently enough to cycle between frost nova and diamond skin.

Look for 15-25k items on the ah for hell. Stack int and increased attack speed. You should find IAS 13-15% rings, amulet, and gloves for a massive boost (depending on how you spend/regen arcane this might not be optimal)

Search for IAS 13, and any int under 15k. Then look for lvl 60 min weapon with reduced level requirement for 25k. You don't need cream of the crop 200k items to get through hell. I think I finished hell at 17k with force magic weapon, sparkflint familiar, and glass cannon.

Sounds good in theory, but they've Nerfed critical mass to the point of uselessness.

I've come to some unhappy conclusions about this game. I started to realize that when blizzard said they don't want cookie cutter stat builds they werent bring truthful. What did you have in d2? Enough str for gear, then int for max cast, or dex for max block. The rest went to vit. Well you don't have that in D3. What you have instead is cookie cutter gear. What's viable in later acts in inferno? You can go glass cannon or semi-tank. So you get gear that's either core stat + critical, maybe some vit, or you go for gear with res all + vit, some dex.

So in the end, you really have the same cookie cutter builds. Only difference is, you can't sell stats on an auction house. So you see, Those motherfuckers built the entire game around a money grubbing auction house. The whole fucking thing. It makes me sick.

Not entirely true about the Critical Mass, it's true they nerfed it most builds. The reason for Spectral Blades (Deep Cut) and Meteor (Star Pact) (M2) on that melee wizard build is that they still produce enough crits to survive. In Hell you can get by with either decent IAS or decent Crit% gear. For Inferno beyond Act 1 you'll need both (and you'll pay through the nose for that gear).

As for the game, it absolutely is designed around the auction house. Equipment itemization, drop rates, character variability are all in the tank. It's annoying me too. And yet I keep playing, ultimately I think the fact that the actual gameplay mechanics are really good keeps me at it. I played a whole lot of Diablo 2, but never really got involved in the all out quest for ultimate gear. My barb had a moderately rolled pre-lod Doombringer, was pretty sweet in D2 vanialla, was good enough for LoD. Played even more original Diablo, had an awesome Kings of Blood.

If Hell Act 4 is as far as I progress, because I don't want to deal with the frustration of difficulty scaled for the AH, so be it.

I'm guessing the game only took a year or so to make......The concept, implementation, and psychology behind the auction house like took the rest of the time.

I mean an in game Auction house is a HUGE step in gaming far bigger than most people probably realize. This will likely be mimicked by virtually every other major AAA release from here on out. NFL games will have some type of sport card auctions, Sims will have some type of rare house or clothes auction, COD will have some type of duche card for auction.

Hell Blizzard might even lease out the auction house technology to other gaming companies who knows.

This could be a major turning point in gaming......being over dramatic and sensational one could say the death of gaming.

p.s. I love diablo 3 I ant hating just pointing out the magnitude of the auction house.

For me it feels more like a game that was in production for a while with a good team focusing on getting the mechanics really solid. The basic setup of 2 mouse skills, a couple defensive triggerable skills and a couple offensive ones is well though out and works very well. Acts 1 and 2 feel pretty fleshed out and complete (despite mimicking D1 act 1 and D2 act 2 respectively). When the last 18 months rolled around and the team is supposed to be working on finishing Acts 3 and 4 and figuring out the end game, Vivendi starts to get worried because The Old Republic looks like it might cannibalize WoW. Acts 3 and 4 get truncated, Act 5 becomes part of a future expansion, half the team is pulled away to implement the auction house to turn Diablo 3 into the new cash-cow.

Yellows are easy to come by at 60. 5-Stack then hit up story bosses. Enough mf and you can get 3 to drop per boss 90% of the time. The question is how many of them are good? Not many, but getting 6-10 rares an hour, you're bound to find good ones.

I think people forget that D2 was just as farming heavy. Hell progression post runewords was not linear, not even close. There are 2 rng factors to loot upgrades, how often you find loot and how good the loot is. D2 items dropped less often, but when stuff dropped, it was usually good. D3 is the opposite, shit drops all the time, but the odds of any of it being good is relatively much lower than D2. I think the disparity of item progression is relatively close, but the AH factor does lower D3 item progression. It's just not as dramatic as people claim it to be.

Add in the AH and perception changes, gear is dangled in front of people so easily that they think they need it to progress. They get one shot in inferno and suddenly think they need million dollar items to stand a chance, suddenly farming sucks and it never happened in D2. The way some people compare the 2 games you'd think uniques and rare runes dropped every time on named mobs. I think pre-nerf spindlecog had among the highest potential for highest ilvl items. I could go for days on spindle runs and find nothing.

I agree. Ever since i experienced this game, i am certain that Blizzard's next MMO will follow suit, and be another RMAH-centered cash grab of epic failure.

:confused::confused::confused: Pindleskin?

Lol spindlecog

Pindleskin took literally one minute to do, so it wasn't bad. Also, meph was able to drop mostof the good stuff much easier

The RMAH or just an AH?

I have been using an in-game auction house in FFXI since 2003.
