Diablo 3 Beta

I'm not a big hack and slasher, but from what I just played the game seems pretty damn good. May get me interested in a new genre. Seems really well done.

Why does the FPS keep dropping, i cant keep a constant 60 FPS on my rig, which is funny because i constant 60 on that TERA beta.

Wtf?

I am guessing you are using v-sync? Triple buffering is not enabled by default in Diablo 3 at present. If you have an nVidia card you can use adaptive v-sync or can download a 3rd party app to enable triple buffering for ATI.

Finally got a chance to play it man... that error 37 was being a puke forever...

Combat with my monk was so much fun and the environment was great too. I just wish there was more going on with the skills and character development. I guess I need to wait until higher levels to see how it meshes out in the end.

I must be getting old, the constant clicking hurts my hands haha.

I dunno how I feel about the game. It feels very claustrophobic compared to the previous games in the series. The animations are great, but the combat is kind of a bore. The palette is also very cloudy, but I've seen a mod that cleans that up.

Also, I don't understand how the skills work. I level up, and it tells me what to select. I'm assuming at higher levels you will be forced to choose between certain skills?

all the skills are useful at higher levels, you can change how a skill behaves based the the rune you chose for that skill.

you can turn an attack thats primarily a damage attack into one thats more defensive among other things

you get your first Rune at lvl 6

Lets take the barbarian as an Example:

you can have a total of 6 active abilities active at a time. and 3 Passive Abilitys active at a time.

You get a Primary Ability which has 3 skills to choose from. Each of those skills has 5 different Runes a piece to change how those skills behave. (15skill Choices for this slot)

You get a Secondary Abilty which has 4 skills to choose from. Each of those skills has 5 different Runes a piece to change how those skills behave (20 skill choices for this slot)

You get a Defensive Ability which has 4 skills to choose from. Each of those skills has 5 different Runes a piece to change how those skills behave (20 skill choices for this slot)

You get a Might Ability which has 4 skills to choose from. Each of those skills has 5 different Runes a piece to change how those skills behave (20 skill choices for this slot)

You get a Tactics Ability which has 4 skills to choose from. Each of those skills has 5 different Runes a piece to change how those skills behave (20 skill choices for this slot)

You get a Rage Ability which has 3 skills to choose from. Each of those skills has 5 different Runes a piece to change how those skills behave. (15skill Choices for this slot)

and finally you get 16 passive skills to choose from, there are no runes for the passive skills.

the sheer number of possible skill combo's is actually quite mind blowing

I can't play the demo. As soon as I click the log in button, the game crashes. Anyone else having this same problem?

Loved the beta and now I want moooorrreee, lol.

My only complaint (besides the ridiculously easy difficulty) is the Barbarian's secondary skills are COMPLETELY useless. The primary attacks are at least as good if not better DPS and utility than the secondary. Rend might be good for bosses with its DOT, but the hammer thing sucks

Just checked out the forums. Looks like I'm not the only one that can't log in without the game crashing.

More fun than solitaire! But to be real, this game was destined to be overhyped. Diablo has always gotten more credit than it deserved.

I'm an old fart, though; I'm sure you noobs will love it! :p

i dont think you have to worry about difficulty in inferno mode ;)

You forgot to mention that a lot of runes are nothing but "increase damage", "lower mana cost", and "increase radius."

New page, I feel that the Enhanced Graphics - Darken & Sharpen Filter should be linked again. I used the Medium Darken + Sharpen (Resembling Diablo II) for a bit, but grew a linking to -Strong Darken + Sharpen (Resembling Diablo I.

Just an FYI, if you go into Options, there's an option there under Gameplay that will allow you to equip more than one "primary" attack instead of a primary and a secondary. I think it defaults this way to not confuse newbies.

Edit: Just double checked for you, it's Options > Gameplay > Elective Mode. Turn this on to pick whichever skills you want to use and not be limited by the Primary/Secondary skills.

Finished the beta tonight, playing a barbarian. I had a lot of fun, but I never used anything other than Cleave, the overhand smash, and the AOE stun.

Seems like baby's first diablo so far I think im at like level 6. It's good but I don't think it's diablo 1 or 2 good so far. Also doesn't seem like the story line is good so far...

Had this problem. Read on the Blizz forums to disable ipv6 and switch dns to google. I did those two things and also deleted the D3 folder in documents which didn't fix the problem by itself. Rebooted and it worked. No idea which thing fixed it or why it would cause the game to crash though.

it was super laggy to me tonight... anyone else experience that?

Just got done killing the Skeleton King with a couple friends. No lag for us. Do you mean graphical lag or a high server delay? Make sure your game is completely downloaded.

A couple of my friends seemed to lag a lot. Their characters would stop for a moment every few steps they took so it looked like the characters were limping lol. Everything was fine on my end though.

If you read the notes on the login screen Blizz clearly stated in the second sentence....

"Please be aware that as a stress test we do expect that connection and latency issues could occur"

-SR

EDIT: To answer your question, I did not have any lag issues tonight

Where does one find rings/amulets? One person got one as a drop, but that's the only one I've ever seen. Also another person said they saw one for sale in their first game, but once they made a new game that was the last time they ever saw one for sale.

How the hell are you guys able to connect? I've been trying for over 12 hours and always get "the servers are too busy" bullshit :(

You can buy rings from the vendor near the entrance for The Weeping Hollow.

You can't find/get amulets in the beta.

There's 3 merchants in town, the one that's to the northwest from the inn is the one I bought my rings from

Just take a long nap and play late tonight eastern time. It was smooth as butter.

The only class that feels polished is the Barbarian. I'm thinking this is the case because he was the first class they created while developing the game. The Wizard and Witch Doctor (haven't tried Monk/Demon Hunter) don't feel right. One thing that really irks me is the Witch Doctor "Corpse Spiders" ability. The spiders it spawns are the exact same model and animation from World of Warcraft. Not only that, but the ability itself doesn't feel right. I didn't particularly like the Wizard either, the way he uses his wand is too Harry Potterish, and his abilities aren't interesting, atleast at the levels we get to test him at. Almost everything about the playable characters are bland, from their avatar to their models, textures, and animations. It feels like one team created the monsters, while an entirely different team created the playable characters. The monsters look and feel "Blizzard", they have interesting models, textures, animations, etc. But the playable characters feel plain and uninspiring and have no personality.

Played through the beta with Barb, Witch Doctor, and Monk.

Based of the beta I'm not going to like this nearly as much as Diablo 2.....But considering I played D2 for 10 years I'm not surprised by that. Still a fun game and I'll be buying it and playing it for at least a year or so.

Biggest issues I had are.

I have 2650x1600 and changing resolutions gives me no more visibility and the game is too zoomed in. I want to see more map.

No Mercenary unless playing single player, hopefully this changes when it goes live.

I really liked adding my own stats removing that suck ass for me.

Weapon system is completely fucked. I'm a monk using a sword and yet I still punch. I am a witch doctor using a spear and yet I still shoot a blow dart. This is completely stupid they could of at least left the base attack in.

leveling up means nothing as your upgrade path is so limited and automated.

Biggest Pro's are:

Breaking down weapons for parts vs selling them.

Warcraft 3 style spell casting in addition to your left and right click.

More Gear.

Removal of Attack rating that was broken in D2.

Another diablo game.

I also didn't like the spiders but the witch doctors blow darts once you get the ruin word were brutal did more damage with them than I did with my barbarian. Witch doctor i the best class I've played so far in terms of damage.

Has anyone looked far enough down the Witch Doctor's path to be able to tell whether it can be played successfully without minions? I really like poison damage and the likes, but I just can not stand minions. Is there more down the road than just poison dart?

So I enjoy this game so far. Never a Diablo player. Is Torchlight 2 better than this game? I like the game, but I see a lot of complaining about it, which leads me to believe there may be better options. This is my first foray into this genre.

No one has played Torchlight 2 yet. Also, the opinion on which game is better, whether it be D3, T2 or PoE is highly subjective.

I'd recommend researching each and the features they contain to give you an idea of which one suits you best.

Well, looks like the answer to my question is "sort of". Might give it a try eventually as a bit of a challenge (can you win using only the poison skills, etc.), but certainly won't be one of my primary play-throughs.

It actually started working after a couple more tries.

I wasn't able to play by just clicking the "start game" tab...I had to join a "public game" and it tossed me right in with 3 other players.

I'm not sure of Blizzard changed their stance on this, but at Blizzcon they demonstrated viable unorthodox class builds that can do well in Hell difficulty. This included a petless witch doctor, but he was using a variety of different skills.

Yeah, reading through the spell list, there were a few other non-minion spells that I would probably give a chance.
