Diablo 3 Beta

What have they all changed from the first beta outside of ability tweaks?

They have repeatedly completely reshuffled, replaced and rebalanced the skills for every class, including large revamps to the resource systems. Complete revamps of the itemization system including stripping out all the old stats like attack and precision and replacing them with intelligence and strength. They completely removed the old rune system and replaced it with a new one. They more than doubled the hit points and damage of all enemies up to level 13 (the max we have in the beta).

It's actually rather impressive the amount of stuff they have completely changed in terms of mechanics in the past 6 months of an extremely limited beta.

What concerns me is that they're still changing and revamping skills, skill trees, options, and basic spells. BASIC stuff. The core of the damn game. This happened several times in the past 3 weeks even. It has me worried. They shouldn't need to change basic skills and spells at this late stage of the game development. They should be tweaking damage, ranges, cooldowns, adding graphic polish, etc, not revamping the entire crafting system, dumping it, revamping the skill system, dumping it, and swapping out half the skills. It really has the outward appearance of flailing wildly with panic that they've finally committed to releasing a game that isn't nearly ready.

Don't get me wrong, I've already preordered the game, but that doesn't mean I'm not concerned that it's going to be a mess on release day.

But of course if they don't release it soon the graphics will be even more outdated than D2 was when it shipped.

Since the rune changes (patch 13 in feb) thats pretty much all they have done. Its just about all balance tweeks (skill unlock order, rune unlock order, various costs for skills and crafting, how much monsters hit for, etc.) All the big stuff looks the be set in stone. You have nothing to worry about.

Played beta over the weekend, what a sweet game! My wrist aren't what they used to be, you guys know of any good exercises?

Tie a light weight (1 to 2 pounds) to the end of a length of string. Tie the other end of the string to a bar or broom handle. Roll the weight up and down in a controlled motion. This will help build up your wrist and forearm muscles.

Or fap.

Guys fapping doesn't work the same muscles then what muscles i use to click like a billion times a session when playing diablo 3.

I got a stress ball and i think that will do the trick for now ... thanks for the tip Komskies

Anyone new to the beta should try out the shader overlay that increase sharpness and gamma. Really takes away that washed-out feel. Takes a few seconds to setup and you can toggle it instantly with (Insert? Pause? One of those). I've been using it for most of the beta. The thread for it is here: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1672327

Might be time to invest in a comfy mouse. Diablo is the destroyer of wrists.

Anyone find it kind of awkward for Monk using fist while having a weapon in hand?

I find that to be really retarded....

WHAT IS THE POINT FOR THE WEAPON THEN? SHOW OFF?

They really need to take the WoW crap design off this game....

Negatory, Blizzard North is no more.

Sweet, will definitely check this out. Thanks for the headsup!

edit: holy crap, I'm using the strong darken + sharpen and looks way better than the default.

Usually it stays at your side or you just show off with it. It goes away when you attack. The real point I guess is to provide a unified way for all classes to increase DPS and have items to loot and trade. Really you forget its there most of the time.

As far as builds go, the game is actually pretty complex. There are something like 20 skills per class (you can use 6), with 5 runes per skill (pick 1 each) and 14 passive skills that you can put into three passive skill slots. In other words theres a shitton of potential combinations.

The monk is pretty fun. I was thinking for hardcore mode you could take:
1) passive to raise all resistances to your highest resist
2) passive that if you die, resurrect with 35% health (on a cooldown timer)
3) a passive to raise either the armor or dodge, or the 25% damage debuff
Then go weapon/shield with the heal and shield skills, the mystic ally, then three attacks. Point being there's a ton of ways to build each class, ranging from DPS to teamwork to survival or control.

I feel the sharpen only filter is best. That with AA/AF cranked up makes the game much more enthralling. Every patch has made the game bounds better. I enjoy how much I've been dying since the last one. The map exploration has improved also. I am beyond excited for this game to come out.

The game at normal difficulty is still pretty easy. I have yet to die with any of my characters. This is still early in the game so I'm not concerned.

Performance this last patch is 100% better for me. I'm not getting the slowdown I was getting during physics-heavy gameplay.

Yea they clearly didn't think this one through...

after the last update I decided to go try the beta again hoping some new area or something was added.
well the warlock and witch doctor were sure nerfed damage wise.
Have not had time to try the mele chrs and basically saying this is going to be a new game with a name only part to say diablo.

ps don't worry about the beta keys they all end in a week anyway.

overall they have done a poor job on this game.
PASS for me.
this is not an update to D2 or a continuation of the game but something entirely different with nothing from the original game remaining but some names.

I guess they are making sure its ready for a console port asap or something.
poor at best.

Man, that warlock. NERF HIS DAMAGE.

:|

I believe you meant Wizard.

It's hard to take you serious when you never tried any of the other characters and only have access to the first portion of an Act then proclaim the game is poorly done. In fact, I just won't take you serious at all, and just comment on how funny that post was.

Are you serious? I honestly cant tell.

rofl probably a bug as the servers are offline...

I was able to login and play for 5 minutes. Looks like the beta client will become the starter edition of the game.

Man, I don't know if I can return to Diablo. I played the first two religiously until WoW was released. Now it's so hard to play with a fixed perspective. I just want to rotate the camera so much! I finally got to see the game in motion and am not impressed by the muddy graphics. Very hard on my eyes. The Times New Roman font all squished together sucks as well. Steve Jobs is probably rolling in his grave with that.

FYI, maybe it is a temporary thing, but people report that they can play D3 beta without having it linked to their battlenet account. So free beta for everyone, I guess.

Heard some noise about Path of Exile. Supposedly a pretty good Diablo 2 clone. Might be worth checking out. In closed beta atm.

Definitely check this thread out man. I use the "Medium Darken + Sharpen" and it looks so much better. There's absolutely no way I could play the game without it anymore as it has so much blur. Check it out.

Path of Exile is a great game, though a little repetitious at the moment as there is no Act 3 yet. I'm still enjoying it though and I'm on difficulty 3 of 5 (Ruthless). I am playing it until Diablo 3 comes out. Good thing is that it'll be F2P though so you don't have to decide between the two.

I can login as well. I just made a Witch Doctor and it was fun. I think that may be the first class I make upon release. I still have to try out the Demon Hunter as it's the only class I haven't played yet.

Looks like I will never get a beta key; which sucks because the hardest part for me is always picking which character I want to play first.

I'll likely just have to roll a dice as I'm torn.

There were some threads on the official forums about people being able to play without Beta attached to their account through the "Starter Edition". I'm not sure if Blizzard fixed this with the downtime and patch though.

Anyone still playing D2?

I'm running a last hurrah with some friends on US East ladder. If anyone has spare gear I'd love you long time. :p

Can't tell if sarcasm or not..

The game is fantastic. I'm not really sure what some of you were expecting, but try going back and playing D2 now that's it's been a while. D2 was a great game, but I think some of you have these insanely nostalgic ideals of a game that never was as good as you thought it to be. D3 is a great game, and this is a BETA. Meaning it's a focus on bugs and testing server-related stuff, not for you to circle-jerk over every little bit of content (since the vast majority of content isn't even included in the beta).

Why does the FPS keep dropping, i cant keep a constant 60 FPS on my rig, which is funny because i constant 60 on that TERA beta.

Wtf?
