Deus Ex: The Fall

At $7, it's more reasonably priced than most other square enix published iOS games.

I'll give it a look when it releases.

...and i thought that DX:HR was a sign that they're actually trying...

Guess it was a fluke = /

There wasn't a strong likelihood for a real sequel this soon. Staff was likely all shifted to Thief post DXHR which is their next major project.

After thinking about this some, here's a few thoughts:

1. It's good they're still spending money on DX.
2. While everyone is disappointed that this isn't DX4,

3. Hopefully they make some good money here to spend on DX4.

What's with all the negative response? If they can pull off one of the best PC/console titles of 2011, what makes people think they can't pull off one of the best mobile games? I'm hoping this is going to be awesome, and I'm definitely looking forward to it.

That was a game developed for two different platforms, this is only for iOS. Mobile iOS is big departure from PC/consoles.
At least release it on Android too, which many PC gamers have.

In and of itself, there is nothing wrong with a mobile Deus Ex. In fact, it is pretty much the norm these days to make a mobile version of a major franchise and cash in on microtransactions. However, their execution was poor and not well thought out.

At least they named it appropriately.
This game is brought to you by those same jerks that did the boss fights in H:R:. Probably not but it sure seems like it.

Given that this is a mobile game shouldn't it be moved to the mobile device forum ?

I have two iPads - one for work and one personal. I love what they do. However...I do not game on an iPad. I just can't take it seriously. Maybe fodder for mindless tasks while waiting for a flight to take off but if I'm near my pc, that's where the action is!

It's significantly easier to build a high quality 3D game for iOS, due to a much more limited hardware ecosystem, so it makes sense that it's the target platform. Square Enix ports most of their titles to Android a few months after an iOS release. If the game is good, you can probably expect it to show up on Android too.

Not sure why so much hate, looks pretty killer for a mobile game.

I don't known a iDevice and I hate playing on touchscreens, but for 6 bucks it looks amazing.

Because some of us really don't give a shit about mobile games?

Some day we're going to see people talking about "bad mobile ports" and mobilitis.

It's coming.

You've thrown the baby out with the bathwater then. Good games are good games, and shitty games are shitty games, regardless of platform. I'm hoping this one ends up being a good one. I like the franchise and I hope the game does it justice. Hopefully they can pull off something that stands out from the crowd.

The point is people were expecting another Deus Ex. There aren't any mobile games that are on par with Deus Ex 1 or HR. None that even come close. This is also the PC gaming section, so you should expect these reactions.

Would it be neato if they made a cool mobile game? Sure. Would anyone here give two squirts of piss? No.

Also, I dislike it because it seems like they are wasting their time on this shit rather than making an ACTUAL DX:HR sequel.

I promise you that it will make it to Android platform. iOS is usually the first stop for these PC/Console to Mobile adaptations. Then droid follows 3-9 months later.

First of all, fuck the fact that this is being pushed for iOS. SquareEnix has such a major erection for iOS it is fucking sickening; I'm still sore over the fact that Theatrerhythm STILL isn't fucking available for Android. SquareEnix has been developing and publishing a significant amount of (relatively expensive) mobile titles as of recently, and has been treating Android like a second class citizen, despite its large install base and comparative ease of publishing a product for the (open) platform. Don't get me wrong, I am glad that SE is offering some titles on mobile - I'd much rather have them available on Android and iOS for $8 than stuck as NintendoDS or Vita titles for $30. However, I expect a level of quality and commitment to the process that I don't see as of yet , especially with regards to Android.

Next, Deus Ex. Sorry, I don't think that a simplistic iOS shooter is the way to tell stories in the DeuxEx universe; at least not as a main title. DE is so much more than another run-and-gun style game. Maybe if it was a companion product to a PC title I'd feel better about the experience, but this doesn't seem worthwhile. However, regardless of "The Fall", I feel that SquareEnix still has some work to do with DX:HR to prove to the community - specifically, to release the "Director's Cut" for PC. It is not acceptable for them to make the game that DX:HR should have been and leave it exclusively as a WiiU title. If they want some goodwill with the DeusEx fan base, they ought to get the Director's Cut on PC ASAP. Ideally, they should take a piece out of CD Projekt's work and release it as a free update, but even offering it as $30 title for new players and $15-20 for those with existing copies of DX:HR would net them a tidy profit.

Until I can see that SE is 1) Serious about DX by releasing the Director's Cut for PC and 2) willing to treat Android as a premiere platform and not the cast-off leavings of iOS, fuck them and the horse they road in on - I'm not going to support them.

Speaking of Director's Cuts, isn't the DX:HR DC only available on the Wii U? Why is it only available on that platform?

What exactly IS the Director's Cut of DX:HR!??! I haven't even heard of it.

Also--i was thinking last night:

Instead of this FPS type game on a touch-screen, they should have done some brainstorming and come up with a much more complicated hacking game for the mobile marketplace. Then, when the new DX comes out and you already have the minigame on your mobile, you can choose to do the hacking on your mobile instead of in game with the mouse.

Here's what I found...

On March 20, 2013, Eidos Montreal announced that they will release a Wii U version of the game titled Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut, which they call the "ultimate edition of the game". Changes include improved boss battles, AI and graphics,[40] as well as extra functionality with the Wii U GamePad. The first trailer for the game was released on April 3, 2013, showing the different functionalities that the Wii U GamePad will offer.[41] The game is a co-production between Eidos Montreal and Australian developer Straight Right, who previously worked with BioWare on the Wii U version of Mass Effect 3.[42].

Announced for a release in May 2013, this version has been delayed/TBA.

From what I can tell, it's a lot of fixes that people wanted done in patches but nothing surfaced.

Better AI is ALWAYS welcome. Damn, they should really give that to us PC folk.. i'd do a 3rd playthrough.

Or they could just allow modding... that'd be cool too.

Modding would be great. Community patches go a long way when the dev is no longer actively involved.

Missing Link was nice. I was a little surprised they didn't give us at least one more DLC after that but I guess that's it.

Precisely.

And I really don't care about mobile phone games.

I found it to be alright. I wanted a lot more than a character skill rebuild & sneaking around on a big boat. I'm not sure why Square Enix called it quits after Missing Link.

Are you kidding here or just spouting hyperbole? Designing games that require access to the GPU (pretty much any 3D title, or 2D titles with particle effects) is a completely different beast on Android due to the hardware fragmentation. Your gripe should be with Google and the hardware manufacturers to get their asses in gear and agree on some consistent hardware requirements and standard access to GPU calls if you want to see more high-quality games on Android. Right now, you need divergent codebases just to develop a 3D game that is optimized for every version of the Samsung Galaxy SII, because ones for different carriers even have different GPUs in them. It costs a lot more time and money to make a visually rich game on Android, and until the upstream decision makers rectify this, you can expect it to be treated like a "second class citizen" in the mobile ecosystem as a whole. If this game is going to live up to the market hype, it needs to look visually stunning, but that's also going to mean a lot more work making the move to Android and delivering that same experience across such a wide range of hardware, while simultaneously charging a fraction of the price of a console or PC title. The cost of developing rich 3D games on Android does not mach up with the price consumers expect to pay, but it's not going to change if you keep placing the blame on the developers.

Market data supports that there is much higher revenue potential on the iphone versus android. The market share data in terms of install base is extremely misleading in regards to this.

Anybody ever play Bard's Tale on mobile platform? It actually changed my whole perspective on tablets for gaming.

uh why this is not for pc? who the hell plays that kind of games on phone... burns out batteries in a moment
