Destiny - Discussion Thread

I am disappointed about the lack of match making for raids BUT if the content is as challenging as its claimed and I can see why Bungie went this route. The part that bothers me most about this is the fact that other then a website there are zero clan tools in game to communicate. Its either use the console friends list party chat or 3rd party PC/Smartphone VOIP program.

Granted its not a huge deal for those who are really into the game to setup an alternate means of group communication but I still think there needs to be something more substantial than Fireteam VOIP in the game itself. Even a clan chatroom that is only accessible in the Tower would be a large improvement in my opinion.

The difficulty is a bogus excuse. I Ran WOW 40 man pigs on a weekly basis in vanilla just weeks after it wad cleared the first time successfully. I played Guild Wars PVP competitively and was extremely successful in randoms. Difficulty is no excuse to not allow PUGS ESPECIALLY after people are familiar with the content and even before. Useless excuse from a dev with no experience in this area

Judging by the Strike mission in the beta, there were quite a few instances where I was grouped with individuals who had no idea what to do in boss fights and I had to carry them all the way through...or I just quit and gave up. We don't know the difficulty of these raids and whether every individual needs to be on point at all times. I played vanilla WoW as well and the PUGs only usually downed a few bosses because certain bosses required more coordination (Garr, Major Domo, Sulfuron, Rag). Only a few, more organized PUGs which usually consisted of more competent players did a full clear occur.

I was doing full clears in pugs right off the bat, a competant leader is all it really took and getting rid of people who weren't keeping up or following directions

RAID Finder or Invite raids? There is a gigantic difference there. It takes months before Raid Finder pugs usually get close after the world first for the instance and the difficulty is downgraded heavily.

I expect Bungie will do something similar eventually for the casuals.

Raid finder didnt exist in vanilla. Im talking Vanilla 40 man raids but just spamming LFG channel

yeah, that was 2004, this is 2014.

And that has to do with what? Bungie has absolutely no reason not to give us the choice, and thats all their is to it. If i want to raid i shouldnt be required to know people to raid with. Most of the time PUGs will end in failures sure, but its also part of what the raiding culture is about. Im used to failure even in organized groups, they need to take this BS no excuse restriction away

yeah, im agreeing with you. im saying the 2004 way is not to get auto-grouped up. which is what destiny is doing.

Agreed. Give us the choice at least, thats exactly what people criticized sony and their statement about the EA sub, they arent even giving the PS4 buyers a choice

I think they're trying to foster clan activity.

Like you guys, and probably me, would have just gone through the game solo and joined PUGs for raids. Since I can't do that and I don't have enough friends that have a PS4 to raid, I joined a clan. Now I'm on the clan forum, etc, and it does feel like I'm part of a team.

I see their plan, and I think it's a good one, but I don't see it lasting long. Matchmaking is easier and takes the hassle out of LFG.

I dont know what they are doing. Clan activity will exist whether or not there is matchmaking. It exists in WoW and every other MMO which are still extremely clan centric if you want the best gear. Like i said this is just coming from a dev with 0 experience in this area and are trying to force an artificial restriction that doesn't have to be there

I have no idea if I should buy this game it's just another videogame what it's trying to accomplish feel like flat Diet Coke soda in my book unless I missed something? It's SCI-FI but I like it done right not sure if this game is done right in my book.

It looks like borderlands with better pve and PvP to me so I'm buying it lol

See I was blown away by Borderlands I and II but not sold on this.
For my PVP fix I just play BF4 or Warface maybe if the PVE had vehicles like it did in Halo 4 I would be sold.
That was the best Part of Halo was riding around in a Ghost.

There are vehicles in PVE....even in beta you could hop on your little speeder bike thingie.

Also on the late mission they added (the one on the moon) you came across alien vehicles that had weapons on them and you could hop on them and use them to fight against he aliens if you got one.

I'm honestly giddy for the 9th. I'll be focusing on the PvE parts of the game since I don't have PS+ (maybe later on I'll get it for the additional content though).

Actually there is, go to YouTube and look up let's play destiny. They did a multiplayer PvP video and there is vehicles that were just like the ghost and tanks from halo.

AND, you can still spawn your own speeder during those matches. All those vehicles are extras for those specific stages.

I love the speeders. It reminds me of Jet Moto for some reason.
I wish they would make a new Jet Moto, with these speeders. I would play forever.

Can't wait to pick this up. Interested in SP and Co-Op. Not so much PVP unless it is very good. Will need to sub to PS+ as well.

Cant wait for this to drop. Pre-ordered the LE Digital Edition for PS4. Anyone wants to friend me--> Italian_Magic. Im sure Ill be playing quite a bit on launch as long as servers stay up.

Thinking about cancelling my pre-order since they won't have match making for Raids and I don't feel like adding 50+ people to my friends list and trying to get a group of 6 of them together for Raids.

Yea..I just found out about this myself...

Thankfully Ive amassed a pretty large list of friends because of Diablo 3 but this still seems a bit wonky..

Im iffy on the length right now too. Recently it came out that there was only one area per planet, now review copies are being held until the day before launch.

Review copies of games being held back for release makes sense when your game requires populated zones to actually function. Having a few thousand people playing isn't showing Destiny's potential interactive possibilities. Even when it was in beta at the height of its player population it only reached 817k people. There where parts of the game that still felt empty even at this peak. Destiny has much more in common with an MMO than a traditional shooter.

People always doom a gloom when reviews are held until day of release. Destiny release is EXACTLY like Destiny Beta from all exterior impressions. If you enjoyed Destiny beta you'll like the release and if you didn't why did you preorder it?

I can't wait for this game. I'm hyped. 9/9 can't come soon enough.

Just a fun fact: Dreamcast was launched in US on 9/9/99.

Ummm i havent preordered it? I never said I did. And frankly beta wasn't great. the AI in the game is horrific from what I saw. In what FPS do any enemies ever just stand in place while you duck into cover? I saw that over and over again in Beta which pissed me off more than any other AI issues I've seen in any other game.

And no, holding review copies back still doesnt make sense. The amount of players you can ever see is limited anyways, which means if an office like IGN got review copies they could play every single thing in multiplayer exactly how it will be played at launch, not buying that excuse either.

Why is it review copies being held back for every other game (I.E sims 4) is crapped on by everyone but not this one due to the massive hype? Its as poor of an excuse as the lack of PUGs in raids.

I don't know what game you played but I see them always trying to find cover... sometimes too much.

Its not the them trying to find cover its the lack of flanking AI that bugged me. It didn't seem to affect every enemy type, I forget what all of them are called so I cant tell you specifically which ones at the moment. Even if I engaged enemies then just left their area they stayed, same mechanics used in MMO's but being a "MMO" as destiny is trying to be that just doesn't make sense in an FPS

Wait.. there is no match making for the RAID content? You have to populate your party form friends?

That is terrible and questioning me getting this game. The End game content is ALWAYS the best part of MMOish type games.

PVP will just be another PVP.

Indeed. For the time being there is no raidfinder or any other form of LFG for end game content. You have to form your own parties wihch means people will just be spamming on their mics looking for random people to join up with.
