Dell U2713HM

I got my monitor, but the DVI-D dual link cable that came with it wasn't long enough for me, so I ordered one from Blue Jeans Cable. It's ridiculously thick, at least twice as thick as the 6 foot Dell cable and with poor flexibility. I hate it, but reviews on Monoprice state that their DVI-D dual link cables are also too thick. Does anyone know of a nice, flexible DVI-D dual link brand that's close to 10 feet?

Anyway, I just got it hooked up and it's beautiful! How do you guys check for dead pixels, cross-hatching, clouding, etc.?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Just called US Dell Small Business, and told them their Australian site had a 30% coupon. Advised the lady on the phone where to find it (u2371hm in Google will return the AU site at the top) and she obtained mgr approval within a few seconds.

If people are having issues --

Call Small Business order line instead of Personal/Home Office -- I used my name as DBA since it's for freelance graphic design things. You don't need a registered business to go through them.

If the first person you get can't honor it, try calling back.

Ok I called them. The rep said he needs an approval from a manager and created a profile, so he is gonna call me later. I am getting impatient over this. Maybe should call again?

UPDATE: Called again and got it for $599 + tax. I guess not bad.

EDIT: haha, there you go. that's what i ended up with as well.

Just received the monitor and am very impressed --

0 backlight bleed issues (just typical IPS glow, no sign of yellow ugliness) and a single lifeless green pixel in the corner which im going to try to get out of there.

Mfr date was November 2012

I thought I had a perfect monitor until I went to this website:

http://www.doihaveadeadpixel.com/

No dead or stuck pixels in all the colors except for red, where I noticed 2 dark specks at the top. I see the yellow in the bottom left corner of the screen with the black background, but I'm wondering if they all have this. I wouldn't notice something like this under any other circumstances. With the lights on in the room, it's barely noticeable. Try it in the dark and let me know what you see.

Do you have image retention issues in your display? (See my previous comments in this thread on how to reproduce it.)

What is the revision number on the box? It must be something like "A00".

Thanks for the link -- was using Photoshop full screen, but this is a lot more efficient.

Went over the screen thoroughly in each color and found 3 additional --

1 green pixel lower left corner noticeable on black
1 red about 4 in from green, noticeable on white
2 darker speck at top right corner, noticeable on white and green

Ran JScreenFix, and the two darker specks at the top right corner are now completely gone. Going to try to rub out the red and green. I'll be happy with the red gone as it's the only slightly obtrusive.

If that doesn't work out for you, you're covered under warranty. I'm going to look up JScreenFix, thanks for telling me about it. What about the yellow in the bottom left in the dark?

If I look at the monitor dead center in the dark, I see the slightest faint yellow glow emanating from the lower corner. No where near the pictures that some people have posted (even at 100 brightness)

I did just test image retention for 25m on a white website w/ black text (massively.com) without scrolling.
0 issues with retention and 0 issues with cross-hatching. My brightness is set to 40.

The Rev of the monitor is still 00.

With the small problem of that pesky red pixel, incredibly minimal yellow bleed, and no retention issues, I'm going to stick with this monitor for a week.

If the pixel gets in the way of my work and I can't seem to nudge it out, then I'll try for a replacement ... definitely not on the top of my list of things to do, as I think I got pretty dang lucky on this one.

Thank you for testing it and reporting the result. Maybe the November batch is better then. Just to confirm, did you test the retention with a gray background (#404040)?

1. Open a Firefox window with white background and a little bit of black text. Make it cover half the screen. Leave it on for about 30 minutes.

2. Switch to gray background (it's easy to do this if you can change your wallpaper to solid color (#404040).

3. Check if there is remnant of that white firefox window.

Set desktop to that exact color, left the window open with white background/black text, then checked it against the desktop after 25 minutes -- no ghosting/retention.

This has actually happened a few times on my iPad with the Safari address bar, but nothing on the monitor.

I'll have to go back and read the entire thread. I haven't seen those pictures, and I haven't been able to see examples of crosshatching. Pictures make things seem much worse than the really are.

Here is another program recommended for unsticking pixels: http://udpix.free.fr/

Unlike JScreenFix, It includes all the screen colors to detect the stuck pixels. Also, you can pinpoint the exact location where the fluctuating pixels need to be placed, either 1x1, or 5x5. When I first ran the program, the little flashing pixel had me worried, because I thought there was something wrong with my monitor until I read this guide:

http://www.komku.org/2008/03/how-to-fix-stuck-pixel-using-udpixel-2.html#.UL2DDu9kjDc

What do I look for on massively.com? Where do I find the tests that you're referring to?

for those that ordered yesterday, what are your expected delivery dates? mine is supposed to be here by friday. :) i'll post my results when it arrives.

Didn't work well for me. LOL

I've tried chat many times and it doesn't work. Not the same class people. You must call Dell Business. It will work, keep trying.

Worked for me :D.

Nice! You did it today or before?

Has anyone had the problem after installing the driver and software off of the disc where the monitor switches back and forth between standard and multimedia mode?

Try this..click on the taskbar and it switches to standard, you should see the red text in the top left of the screen saying "standard." Now click anywhere in the center of the screen and it will switch back to "multimedia." Strange and annoying!

x2.

Online reps would not budge on price. Call Small Business sales.

Tried calling and the best I can get it for is $649. Hmmm...Maybe I'll try calling in again. LOL

Ordered last night when I got the $559 price match but called back today and cancelled and re-ordered so I could use the $75 GC offer. With the GC it makes the monitor only $484 + tax.

They deduct the $75 after tax, but it's still an incredible deal. My mistake was mentioning the difference in currency value between Australia and US. I wish I had known it was a 30% off sale, and I would've mentioned that instead.

My guess is that they don't want it in writing so it can be posted on a forum, lol.

By the way, I figured out why my monitor was switching back and forth between multimedia and standard mode. There's an "automatic" setting in the display manager. I just had to switch it back to "manual."

wait, whaaat? that's crazy. i may try this, but mine has probably shipped by now..

I'm thinking about going with the ASUS VG278HE.

I game more than I do anything with graphics.

The $500 limit is on the gift card purchase, not the amount of gift cards that can be applied to a purchase.

Ended up paying $500 for the GC and a little over $40 for the difference ($599+tax).

I just bought a U2412m from Amazon for $280
-You guys think upgrading to the U2713hm for nearly double the price is worth it?
-Not looking forward to upgrading my 5870 1gb if I do get it though.

Depends if "size" matters to you. And you are upgrading from?

well before my recent purchase of the U2412m from amazon, I was just rocking an old 22" 16:10 Dell monitor.
-only reason for this upgrade bug, had a chance to work with a 27inch iMac at school....made the 24inch look small in comparison.
