ok guys im back again .. . as one of the guys who checked this monitor at the beginning of this forum , im going for a second try with a newer revision in hopes the ghosting is better after seeing ElektroDragon you tube comparison , looks better now ... for sure the colors where great like i said before . . . was sure in par with my 2 20wmgx2 even though i hate matte

Does anyone else have a portion of their settings, such as Pixel Clock, grayed out? How come I can't access them?

I am pretty happy with my monitor but the image quality from my Gateway FHD2400 still seems better. There seems to be a kind of film I can't get rid of on this; I'm not sure if it has to do with the glossy screen of the Gateway providing more pop. Also, I don't know if it's because of lack of 1:1 on the Dell, but text looks a little bit blurry (I set my sharpness to 50).

And is it just me or are the "calibrated" settings for this found throughout the web horribly wrong? All of them seem to look either too cool or have too much of a color cast. (I am pretty sure I know what 6500k looks like, since my KURO is calibrated to that.)
 
Recent TN panels are actually pretty good if you're dead-center and the panel isn't the cheapshit kind that changes color just from the angular difference between your eyes.

Some settings are limited depending on the connection type and what other settings you use. For instance "pixel clock" is related to VGA connections, chances are you are using DVI or DP, which are not affected by "pixel clock."

The u2311h is a Matte screen while you gateway I guess is a Glossy, which is what is contributing to the differences. Each coating has its advantages/disadvantages and is really a preferential thing. For most people though if given the same screen, they will find a Glossy to look "better," but it isn't without disadvantages.

Calibration settings can only really be valid for the screen it is done on.

IPS inherently has an advantage with viewing angles and 8 bit vs. 6bit+hifrc colors. Because "image quality" is composed of a host of other factors and is subjective, you can't really say it will be "better." It is better for sure in certain areas due to the technology difference as mentioned.
 
I just got mine from FedEx today, and damn. The viewing angles aren't that great imo, but the monitor looks amazing dead-on. There is some noticeable color shift when I look at it from the right side. The left side doesn't seem to have the same problem.

Haven't noticed any ghosting yet, but I've only tried one game on it. I'll try some FPS games on it later.

It's also noticeably brighter than my Acer AL2216Wbd... actually to the point where it hurt my eyes at 100%. 65% brightness seems to be great so far.

Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase. $258 after tax for a 1080p IPS panel... not bad. I'll likely get two more of these within the next year for triple monitor gaming, but I don't see how landscape is going to work for that. 16:9 is just way too wide. I'll probably rotate all 3 vertically.
 
Just got my dell as well still unsure what I think about it...I am comparing it to my old 2007WFP 20 inch. Seems like the whites on the new monitor are much better along with the blacks. Its extremely bright though...What things do I need to correct on the new monitor as far as color, brightness contrast ect go? Did you guys use the CD that came with the monitor? How can I setup my 23 inch to display games while I setup the other monitor to display desktop? How can I setup my mouse to move to the left & go to my 20 inch monitor which is setup to my left?? It always wants to only move to my 20 inch thats setup to the left when I move my mouse to the right. This is the first time Im doing dual monitor setup.

I'd say it looks just like mine. I don't think you'll get anything much different from any ips panel.
 
It depends on your video card and OS how to do it exactly. But in your control panel settings you should be able to assign each monitors location.
 
I have the Nvidia EVGA 465 1gig plus using the windows 7 home. I read that OS cannot do seperate wallpapers, you need a seperate program called display fusion. But whenever I go play a game I cannot play the game on my main monitor & then run apps on the other one at the same time?? Also, whenever I go to move my mouse it can only reach my left monitor when I drag to the right & not left. I have my left monitor setup to the left of the main monitor..
 
The left/right part should be in the drivers under monitor configuration. I can't vouch for NVIDIA though as I have ATI.

For nVidia drivers, right now, just use the windows desktop tool (right click on desktop --> screen resolution). Drag and drop.

ATi drivers include the setup inside their drivers, nVidia hasn't done so, yet.
 
Awesum thanx guys! Now the next part is getting a video game playing on my main display & running an app on my spare such as web surfing, email, or watching a movie...Would be awesome if this is possible. Sux that Windows 7 which is a next gen OS doesnt have these tools built in like MAC OS....disappointing.

Antitrust laws. MS has shifted them all into "Microsoft Live Essentials" inside your Windows Update area (enable "Microsoft Update" from inside the Windows Update window).

Did you guys use the CD that came with the monitor? What tweaks needed to be done?? Also how do I get a my main display to play a game while my second display surfs the web or plays a movie?
 
Would a second video card accomplish this? Perhaps one for gaming and one inexpensive one for 2nd desktop?
 
got my u2311h today, definitely a noticeable tint issue... left side seems bluish and right side seems yellowish

now what?
 
You can request a new one, but you'll see it to some degree or another on any IPS screen. My second still has some tint issues, but not as noticeable as the first.
 
do they let you keep the monitor until you get the new one? then test both and send one back?
 
So its not possible to play a movie on the 2ndary screen & play a full screened game on the primary screen? Also what tweaks did you guys do to your moniotr? Did you just plug & play or did u install any drivers & do any tweaks to the monitor? It seems my 2ndary monitor is not even close to as bright as the 23 inch it looks alomost yellowish..I wonder if I can fix this or if its deterioration over time?
 
OMG OMG OMG it's soooooo perfect!

I have an ASUS VK246H and an older HP W2408h that cannot hold a candle to this monitor!!! And my LG 20" (newer... ) isn't even in the same league, especially with it's silly "backlight dimming" hooligans!!

anyway, ive been using mine for a few hours now

it REALLY sucks that the tint issue is so noticeable... otherwise this would be one hell of a monitor

the colors completely destroy my old TN samsung's

anyone know how dell's advance replacement works? i guess i'll try my luck on another one. do i have to call them or is it through their website?

no tint, for me (head on). There is some (on blacks), once I get at a heavy angle. I never had a better monitor, so I wouldn't really know, actually (I dunno whether to be happy, or sad...).

Either way, I think I am set with my rig for the next 5 years. Maybe a few more Gentle Typhoons, but I have everything I want... tweaked to the max :D (My last setup was a P3 Coppermine + 845G Intel Extreme 2 gfx + 17" CRT... for about 4 years, iirc).

does the left side look colder than the right? on mine it's very noticeable dead on, the left side has a blu-ish tint and is a bit dimmer.. the right side has an orange-ish tint and is a bit brigther

other than white backgrounds, can't notice much tint issue but right side just seems brighter

FOR ME, it's not noticeable... but it's there, if I look for it.

I dunno, maybe it isn't calibrated? :p

Also, the backlight, iirc (from a review - TFTcentral, or something like it), the right side was a wee bit brighter than the left. Center was brightest, of course.

But then, most of my work is email, excel. Most of my play is [H] and games, so I wouldn't care :p
 
I got mine today and it is pretty sweet! It's not calibrated yet, but it blows my TN and my VA out of the water in terms of picture quality and pretty much everything lol. My monitor was manufactured in July 2010 and I don't notice any tinting or major backlight issues at all.. I can view a white page and it looks uniform throughout, even when you look at it at different angles... There may be some tint to an extent, but I don't notice it at all, so imo there is no tint at all.. I also have no dead pixels, but I do have a weird blemish in the middle of my screen. It is the size of about 6 pixels and it looks like something that you can just clean off, but it wont come off! I don't know if it is something under the matte layer or if it is a scratch... Oh well, it is better than a dead pixel because it isn't that noticeable or annoying...

Well, I'm glad I lucked out and saved money on buying this Dell over the NEC.

what are your contrast/brightness settings on?? u gyus running custom RGB or standard?

RGB, and I lowered the brightness down to 50. (I cannot notice the "tint" as much - assuming I look for it - on 50 brightness).

Other than lowering the brightness, I haven't changed any other settings.
 
I recently received my U2311 and it seems like a good one. If I look for it, I notice a minor tint shift, but it's not really noticeable unless I'm specifically looking for it and only on white or light gray backgrounds. There isn't bad back light bleeding and it seems fairly uniform. It's not absolutely perfect, but nothing I can complain about at this price.

My other monitor is an IPS 2007WFP. This new monitor looks much better. The colors are much better looking. I'm also noticing that some sites or images that I assumed were pure black actually have black to dark gray gradients heh.

One thing though, it's much brighter than my 2007WFP. I have my U2311 brightness set at around 20 and it's still seems overpowering compared to my older monitor. It's actually causing me to get a headache after awhile. Maybe brighter isn't the right word, maybe... more energetic? I don't know, it's hard for me to explain. My guess is it's the back light. Anyone have any ideas of easing the eye strain or headaches? Maybe I'm just sensitive or not used to it after using my other monitor for countless hours over the past few years.
