DC Vault

I wouldn't suggest EON with an ISP limit due to the data transfers back and forth to EON's server.

FreeHal would not be a good choice due to your ram limits.
FreeHal uses a lot of ram.

May I suggest EulerNet. The project is based on the time you put into it not how many units you get done.
My 800mhz laptop with 256mb ram has just completed a work unit that it didn't find a result for and it took 700+ hours (about a month) and all that time gets counted.
Some EulerNet work units find there answer in a few minutes to a few hours and then some have no answer in them, so they run until it has gone through all the combinations and then credits your time spent.

Eulernet uses only one core and doesn't produce lots of heat, some heat yes but acceptable to my laptop.

Ok, now crunching EulerNet. Odd though at how it detects my CPU as 11 MHz. :D

Does EON actually have work these days? Was it ever converted to BOINC? I always had issues in the past getting the client to actually work and download work.

yeah it works.. its gotten better but doesnt use boinc.. the servers still runs out of work or the server just stops sending WU's out..

the WU's are less then a 500kb but cant remember the exact sizes anymore..

as for freehal.. im not sure if the newer WU's have gotten larger but back when i use to run it before all the issues started and then were fixed.. i could easily run 25 WU's at a time with 512mb of ram..

did they finally start updating eulernet stats daily or is it still every once in a blue moon?

Yeah it never detects my clock speeds correctly either, I just go in and change it to what it actually is, and it has no impact on your score or the work units you get so it doesn't really matter.

The number on the left is the top of the range your in and the number just to the right and after the + is where you are at in the range, so it will count up all the way to the first number or it will find it's result before it gets there and then it auto sends the data in.
This project uses almost no bandwidth, maybe a few megabytes a week.

Edit: EulerNet stats update at this link. The link for the top producer stats on the main page has been broken for a while and not sure if they have fixed it yet. (Looks like they may have fixed it)
Latest version of the software is not the one listed on the download page. This is the latest one. (Edit: http://euler.free.fr/programs/Euler2000_4_21c.zip )

Razor: How many cores/speed are you running over there to crank out 32K points/day on OGR-27?

Well I have a Q9550 @ 3.7ghz using 3/4 cores and an AM3 810 @ 3.4ghz using 3/4 cores.
Wish I had more to put on it. Trying to work up a few positions in OGR-27.

Ok, well.. I have 3,000 stats units so far in todays queue waiting to upload. Will be interesting to see how much I can come up with before 23:59 UTC.

Indeed it is a nice update. :) Nice work.

I'm just starting to build my i7 box. Should have it up and going tonight.

Good job on Eulernet, Razor.

My dual GTX295 box has been down for a few days. My OC still isn't stable, and I think I found the problem, but it looks like Windows was corrupted when it crashed so I'll need to reinstall. Annoying...

I have a Win7 image for this box, but not Server 2008 R2 (that crashed) because this box is supposed to be for my office. I brought it home because it wasn't stable. I'm working on setting up a VPN, so maybe I'll be able to do nightly backups even though it's remote.

Well this morning it looks like we made it to 35th in Docking@home. Thanks to everyone who jumped on this project and helped to make a push. From here the climb in Docking gets pretty steep so I was thinking of maybe just keeping one CPU on docking and moving to another project. Looks like we could make some ground up in Enigma or Cosmology pretty easily. Anyone have any thoughts?

Sure metallicafan where ever you like.
My processors are pretty full at the moment but in a couple of days I could help push on a project.
Lets see what the rest of the team thinks..

Enigma appears to have more work than Cosmology available right now.. not sure if this will make your decision any different.

I think I just got back, and by tomorrow morning will have 8 cores doing nothing but OGR in the background... :D I'm game for whatever! (I know, real helpful...)

I am pushing hard on enigma right now. I saw it for being able to jump some more since its just over 9k.

Lately just have been running low on the radar. I am 11th overall for Boinc points. The jump to 10th is million more so I will be stuck at 11th for a while.

I'm going to be seriously ramping up my efforts on both RC5-72 and OGR-27 next week. Not sure in what configuration of cores just yet but I want to be doing at least 25K stats/units per day on both projects.

I'll bring over a couple CPU cores and help you on Enigma Eric. I noticed that you were getting some good points over there. nice work. :)

Has anyone ever received a "Computation Error" in BOINC? I got one on my new i7 rig last night. It would download and begin to run 8 WCG WUs and all of them (except 2) would error out after about 2 minutes. I havent had any other stability issues (memtest ran over night with no errors) and I havent done any OC'ing yet so Im guessing that maybe its just that Im using the new 6.10.16 beta client? I've been running 6.10.13 for a couple weeks now without a problem (granted on a dual core not a i7). I guess I'll go back to the latest stable BOINC client and try that next.

I'm afraid my production on the next OGR-27 update is going to be a bit down from my prior two days since re-joining the project. I've been getting a lot of really big stubs today and, unless this one finishes in the next 50 minutes before my cron job to flush just before the cut off time for stats collection, I'm afraid I will be down 700 points from yesterday. Not much, I know, but I like to analyze all this stuff and I'm a stats monger.

I am pleased to say that we have gained two positions in RC5-72 and one position in OGR-27. Onward and upwards, Commandos!

metallicafan - The version of Boinc usually do don't create the computation errors it is most likely just a few bad work units.
If it has been running fine up to those few I wouldn't change anything.

Tobit - You can always send your work back in Distributed Computing Client just be doing a Flush Work from the drop down menu.
I always do this at 5 minutes until the end of the UTC day.

Okay, 4 cores dedicated to Enigma, and a Q6600 splitting time between Enigma and OGR - let's rock and roll!

Well this is a fresh Win7 install with a new CPU, MB, and RAM so I've never DC'ed on this setup before. i went back to 6.10.13 and only 3 of 8 errored out (after about 1 minute). So then I stopped WCG work and grabbed a couple Enigma units on the same machine. Its been ok for about the past 10 minutes. Temps look ok - low to mid 40s. Once I make sure everything is stable I will probably start back up on Collatz on this machine too.

Has anyone else who is running WCG HPF - Phase 2 been getting and bad WUs?

I run a raw console client, no drop down menus here. I have a scheduled task that runs every day at 23:50 UTC and does a flush. It works well.

Looks like we have a few CPUs on OGR. :) Go get em fellas. :D Should have some room to move up there.

Razor, metallicafan, et al.: Where do we need to be focusing our efforts to bump Team Anandtech and move into the top 10 overall? Following right behind in Anandtech tracks is so not where [H]ard|OCP should be.

It looks like we lost one spot yesterday in Biological & Medical Sciences. We appear to be doing well in Math and Misc. but definitely need some improvement in both Physical and B&M Sciences. Could a focus effort in these two categories move us up into the top 10 overall?

Just thinking out loud here.

Edit: It looks like our score is a bit lacking in Poem@Home and I see there is 10K of work available. This might be able to help us move back up in B&M Sciences a little bit.

Anywhere you can find that we can gain points is where we need to try to go after but as we focus on those projects we need to watch not to loose points in others.
It's a ruff road to drive up here near the top ten in the DC-Vault but we have been making steady progress on Team Anandtech.
The only thing I think we could do better is add more team mates and cores.
I have a couple cores on Poem as to gain a little and keep the teams coming up behind us at bay so if you like go ahead and focus on whatever you like, if that's Poem then all the better.
I have focused lately a lot on OGR-27 because I believe there is ground that can be made up and I am just about to switch one quad off of SOB and back on to Gimps.
If we all focus on different or the same things I don't think really makes a difference, but I could be wrong.
I did put a quad thats doing some long Lattice Project work units to use Enigma as work units to use as core filler when Lattice will only run 1 or 2 units because of there high memory demand. (4gig memory and can only run 2 and sometimes 3 units which leaves 1-2 cores free)

I'll stick with my plans to ramp up on OGR-27 more next week then.

Although the Math section is our highest score, its also the category IMO with the most room for gain. As Razor mentioned OGR and GIMPS are projects that our score has room for improvement. Other BOINC projects such as POEM and Cosmology are also good ones to work on as they are some of our lower BOINC scores. After a little Enigma work I am probably going to be doing a bunch of Cosmology WUs.

Well get Anandtech yet. :D I have seen a few new Commandos lately, and well continue to have a few more join the cause. :)

Crunch on!

dnetc's stats server is temporarily offline. Stats are still being accurately collected and counted however.

Official announcement from Mr. Lawson:

Code:
Login: bovine Name: Jeff Lawson

On since Tue Oct 27 20:27 (GMT) on ttyp0, idle 2:15
No Mail.
Plan:
:: 27-Oct-2009 20:29 GMT (Tuesday) ::

Our statsbox is temporarily down while we perform some minor hardware
upgrades. We hope to bring it back online by tomorrow. Thanks for
your patience!

Edit: this impacts both RC5-72 and OGR-27

Thanks Tobit for the news.
I would have drove myself nutz tonight trying to check the stats and figuring out what was up.

naww, you wouldnt have.. the stats page has a redirect to a decent enough answer. I'm still gonna have stats withdrawl tonight. :D :p

Has anyone else who is running WCG HPF - Phase 2 been getting and bad WUs?
metallicafan - There's a known issue with 64 bit quads and 64 bit Vista when running HPF2. (See WCG forum thread here). I'm not sure if it carries over to Win 7. Also, it seems that you're not alone in reporting a rash of errors lately. (See a few threads in the HPF2 forum).

To the horde commandos as a whole, if you're looking to efficiently push in dnet's RC5-72, put your CPUs somewhere else and bring some ATI hardware. An old 3650 can beat a Q6600. A couple of your teammates had pushed you into the top 5 daily with their cards, just think what a few more members and cards can do. (Or what a new 5xxx card could do.)

Thanks for the tip Dr. P, I am building some new boxen just for OGR/RC5 processing (CPUs for OGR and GPUs for RC5). I have NVIDIA cards at the moment for RC5 but I will look at replacing them with ATI cards in the future. Edit: I hope to have the new boxen online late next week.

Tobit - That sounds like a good plan! Don't get me wrong, the Nvidia cards will still be good for RC5. An ATI board can just slap them around. I think a pair of 4890s would get your goal of 25K/day with room to spare.

metallicafan - I meant to put this in my first post. You can still run WCG. Modify your Default device profile to exclude HPF2. (To do so, from the WCG homepage choose My Grid -> Device Manager. On the left will be a link for Device Profiles. Select that and then click Default to edit your default machine profile. It will update the next time your client connects, which you can even force through the Boinc interface.) There are plenty of stable projects with scientific merit to choose from. Also, WCG has no plans in the near future to implement GPU processing which means CPU cycles are welcome here and won't be overpowered in the next few months.

Dr. P - Thanks for the links and the advice. Looks like I will have to put that machine on another WCG project. I didnt know about the multiple device profiles, so thanks. :)

Just manged to get my Bronze badge for HPFII. Just trying to get a bronze badge in all the projects. Moving on to the Fight Childhood Cancer project.

Ok so I want to officially join the Commandos!!!

I have an i7 and will have an Athlon II x4 next week.
I would like to do projects that
a) are for a good cause..........eg. NOT looking for aliens
b) count for DC-Vault
c) where we need moar push right now so we can jump up in the ranks!!

Im a noob to anything non-F@H so if I ask dumb questions.....well now you now :p
