DC Vault

Yeah all I got is my lappy and my e6300 on Cosmology@home at the moment, I think I broke 50k points in it now. I'm about to get my PII at 3.5ghz up and running again which should supply a fair bit more.

Thanks for the Cosmology crunching, Shlomo. We're making some progress there.

In other news, my electric bill was $470 last month. Luckily the cooler weather is almost here.

Yikes! That hurts. :)

Sazan - when you get doe with your GIMP units you said your going to switch back to some BOINC. Which projects you thinking of running? I haven't done and Cosmology WUs but Shlomo, you and I could make a run at 9K in that project (and anyone else who wants to join in for that matter).

I don't know, but I'd like to pick one project and make a run. I've got three BOINC boxen spread across a dozen or so projects, so progress is slow. I think the two i7s could take a break from GIMPS and W@H and really crunch something for couple weeks, and then switch to something else.

It looks like the lowest projects are Cosmology, Malariacontrol, Poem, and Yoyo. For getting to 9K points in DC Vault, I think Yoyo is going to be the toughest. We need to move up six places to 44, but that means going from the current 587K points to over 900K points. The good news is that there's not a whole lot of activity, so we should be able to maintain our new rank if we can get there. That's a lot of crunching for less than 200 Vault points, though.

Looks as if EulerNet will be re-added to the DC-Vault soon if EulerNet can keep it's stats updating daily.
It may be re-added this weekend.
We should still be doing pretty good here but could use help from a few slow computers or laptops with little memory.
I run it on an old 700mhz laptop with 256mb ram and Windows XP. It takes about a month to complete a work unit.
The project is scored by the amount of time put in not how many work units you can do so it's perfect for those old computers.

Edit: If anyone is interested running this, here is the latest app version. Euler2000_4_21c.zip

Wow, I just found this thread, read the first few pages then skipped to the end, Y'all have just about cracked the top ten...impressive!

So if you are using BOINC 6.10.10 and you have the newest ATI drivers Im assuming that it works like the Cuda apps? BOINC will just download it and use your GPU automatically?

Thats correct for ATI Collatz. It will download and run just like a CUDA app.
If running BOINC 6.10.10 or higher with Catalyst 9.2+ drivers installed, the v2.04 app will download automatically.

Sweet. I'll see if my 4850 will run this but I think my OS needs a reinstall.

On a good note I am purchasing some RAM for my i7 build this morning. :)

My GIMPS push is done, but I think I'm going to run a 50/50 mix of GIMPS and W@H on one i7. The other i7 will be all BOINC.

SIMAP still has work, so that's where I'm focusing my BOINC resources right now. Lattice also has work, but beware! It uses a ton of RAM, like 1GB per WU.

Nice job on GPUGRID SazanEyes, you are now the #1 leader for team [H]ard|OCP in GPUGRID and tied me to be the first to get 5 million in that project.
Thats not an easy accomplishment, so I tip my hat to you.

<snip> I was trying to help Eric and gain a bunch of ground in RCN but I just noticed that we are about to get steamrolled by about 4 teams in Docking. Just not enough CPUs.

DC [H]ard guys and gals!

Well, I've been giving it my all in Genlife, with a core or two from Sazan, and I've got us to 8950, but they're outta work for a week... I'm switching a dual box over to Docking to help a bit there, and will try to get my quad over on Cosmo for a while as well. Poem is going to get a bit tricky, just like Yoyo, we'll need about 250K pernts to hit 9K, but it seems to have some decent activity above us, so it may be a bit hard to make up ground...

Just like the top 100 over in our F@H, it seems the air is pretty thin on making runs in the Vault top 10!

Nice job on GPUGRID SazanEyes

That's what my GTX 295s have been working on. I would crunch multiple projects, but every other CUDA BOINC project has some sort of issue. The exception is SETI, where we don't need the points.

SIMAP still seems to have work as of this morning.

Seems to be some progress in SIMAP as well, we were down a bit when this batch of WU's started.

Okay, I'm about ready to set Collatz to no new work unless someone has an idea what's up here - now I'm running the Catalyst 8.12 drivers, as that was the only thing I could get to work correctly when I first started doing Milkyway on my ATI, and BOINC 6.6.20, as it had no problem. Now as I finish one or two Collatz WU's my GPU seems to hang and not allow any other WUs to make any progress, making me have to abort them all and download new to get any GPU action at all. Do I need to upgrade the Catalyst drivers? If I upgrade to BOINC 6.10.10 and catalyst 9.2+ as the Collatz page says, will that fix the weird scheduler issues and have the Milkyway GPU client still work?

Catalyst 9.8 has worked best for me on collatz, milkyway, and dnet. No problems for me with boinc 6.10.11.

tr0ach is correct in that you need newer drivers for Collatz and a newer Boinc version.
I am currently running Collatz on one of my machines with Catalyst 9.9 and Boinc 6.10.3 and it runs great.

Greetings :)

Been a coupla years since I last stopped by.

Just wanted to say a few things.

Firstly, congratulations on passing my lil team (Crunchers Inc) and taking 11th at the vault.

I should add that you should be okay to continue looking upwards as there is no threat from 12th place.
My team has pretty much dissolved over the last couple of years, there are only a handful of us left.......and due to unemployment I can do little myself to fight back, most of my rigs have been mothballed.

However I will try to be a thorn in your side if and when the opportunity arises :p

May not have the firepower anymore, or much of the enthusiasm......but I still have the attitude :D

Sorry I can't give you lot a harder time but Crunchers Inc's halcyon days are over.

Best wishes from the smallest team to ever make DC Vault top 10 :)

Regards

Vaio.

Addendum:

Our team forum only has 4 active members :(
How the mighty have fallen lol :D

We'll be looking forward to it. Welcome to the [H], don't let this be your only visit. :D

Only 10k behind ya now.........bunch of slackers :D

HEY! I just cannot run it well - not slacking here! (so [H], I don't even run some of my computers with monitors... not that I have connectors for them)

Hi, wasn't aimed directly at you lol. :)
Can you not run some projects with short work units?......or longer deadlines?

Looks like we are only about 3K back from 10th. Nice work everyone! Thanks to everyone who is helping out in Docking! We should be able to hold off most of those teams it looks like! :) And gain a few spots of our own while were at it!

So I go over to download the newest optimized Collatz client just now, and guess who is their user of the day? :D

I just noticed the same thing. :D I just went over there and created an account. got the first WU running now.

For anyone interested - I am running BOINC 6.10.13 and ATI 9.9 drivers. I just attached the project and it went and grabed a bunch of WUs and it just started working. So far so good.

Edit: How much RAC should I expect out of a 4850?

That's exactly where I'm at - each WU is worth about 500 points, and I'm currently clocking just under 15 min per WU on my stock 4850 - My math says about 2K/hour x 24 hours = about 48K ppd. Of course, I can't get more than about 12-14 hours of GPU run time a day, so I'll be happy to get 25K!

BTW, thanks for the advise Razor & Tr0ach!

edit: What version of MW are you guys using? I changed from 0.19f to 0.20, and get random GPU driver resets when BOINC switches from a Collatz WU to a MW one - the progress then hangs on the MW WU until I pause /restart it...

My 3 4850's have been doing about 50k each but 2.05b just dropped me from 17+min to about 10.5min on top of the 300k:eek: pending i have.

@Jathanis on milkyway 20 definitely as I think it was so much faster that they just did a credit reduction. as for the VPU recoveries mine does that when switching back and forth too and I don't know what there is to do about it other than err...

Hmmm . . . Was 2.05b something you had to go and download or does BOINC automatically get the new core? In BOINC mine just says 2.05. Looks like at 625Mhz mine are taking about 12.5 min each.

The good news it that it ran all night with no bluescreens! Hopefully it keeps up for another week or two until I get some time to reformat. :)

2.04 was the version that was supposed to have the speedup, but not for me apparently
as no matter what I tried performance was the same or worse.

2.05b is the default app on the site now and it should be an automatic thing, and shows as 205.

Contrary to milkyway mem frequency matters at collatz going from 500 to 750 knocked times down over a minute, haven't tried higher than that. Am also overclocked to 730 core.

Just make sure GPU usage is 95+ percent

Thanks for the tip tr0ach.
A couple of Collatz versions ago it didn't seem to help having the memory overclocked but a lot has changed in the last 2-3 versions so I'm taking a couple of my ATI cards memory up from 450mhz to 1000mhz and see if I can increase my output.:)

You are correct of course. Also keep in mind that this should matter less on gddr5 cards

Yep - just found that out.
On my 4870 with GDDR5 is made no difference at all in completion times, so to save on 50watts of wall power each card I turned them back down.
Next will be to see how high I can push the memory on my 4850's. They are stock memory is set to 993mhz so I'll start bumping them up from there.

So WTF is this DC-Vault?

Im thinking about running some other projects, but not sure where to start so ill ask here.

WTF is WTF for?

DC Vault has seemlingly evolved into a tech help section.

EDIT: This next part is so totally wrong...
But it is still about the 2 main DC projects:
F@H and (the other one, with the BIONIC engine).

Right but my understanding is that BOINC is a framework not a project.
So how would i get setup with BOINC so i am working for the [H]?

Do we have a guide for this?
