Aqua gave me tons of both CPU and GPU workunits (at least 3 pages to scroll through in BOINC). However, I still haven't finished a single WU. The The CPU ones seem to be running OK, but the GPU units are at 44-46 hours and say they still have 29-35 hours left. This is way longer than GPUGRID took to run. I'm wondering if it just doesn't like my 8800GS cards, or if I somehow got monster WUs that are worth a bunch of points. If something's wrong I'd like to switch back to F@H, and maybe use the GTX 285 for Aqua instead.

the problem with boinc is the times are completely inaccurate.. you have to finish about 10-12 WU's before it shows the correct time.. hell after 2 months my times on GPUGRID are still wrong.. some of them say they take 11 hours but take 15 hours.. some say they take 14 hours but take 12 hours.. so i just quit paying attention to them..

Not sure about how long the Aqua-Cuda units should take on a 8800GS but my 9600GT takes about 10 hours.

The times you are reporting SazanEyes do seem to be pretty long, but...
I see many people reporting that their Aqua-CUDA times are very long like yours and then again I see others report their times in line with mine, so I don't know what to think about it all.

There has been talk on the Aqua forum about letting the Cuda app have more free processor time to help improve completion time. (I don't know if this actually helps) http://aqua.dwavesys.com/forum_thread.php?id=163
It may be that the Aqua-cpu units are slowing down the Aqua-Cuda units.

Also check your device manager and look for dwm.exe and see if it is using more than 1% cpu time.

Edit: (all these problems with Aqua @ Home is why I don't think this project should be included in the DC-Vault)

Thanks Razor. dwm.exe is at 0%. I set CPU to 60% in BOINC and bumped up the CUDA task priority like in that thread, so maybe that will help. It does seem like the project is still immature.

edit: I posted my issues over at the DC Vault forum.

Mr Flibble and metallicafan, what else are you running on your machines? Are you running both CPU and GPU Aqua work? My machine was running other BOINC projects (mostly Yoyo, but also some Nqueens and Spinhenge) when the GPU work started, and then moved to Aqua CPU when they finished. Now that I reduced BOINC's CPU %, it's only running one CPU task along with the two GPU tasks. The CPU task is almost done, but the GPU work doesn't seem to have speeded up any. Maybe it doesn't like Windows 7?

Im running BOINC 6.6.20 if memory serves on Windows 7 beta. I am running 2 CPU WUs of Enigma and then the one Aqua GPU unit. Im not running any other non BOINC projects on this rig.

Are your GPU temps basically at idle temps? Or is the GPU under load?

MY first wu finished at about 16 hrs and got a paltry 2,500 points. That's a lot of work for that amount of credit.

running 1 GPU and 2 CPU wu's

8800gs Running AGUA CUDA
Pentd @2.8 switching between Docking and NQueens

In the day late & dollar short category, I got to work & moved my dual core 940 on to Enigma, and as soon as I hit 10K in SZTAKI, I'll move the quad over to for a while (at least 10K pernts). But I still resent Aqua being considered for the Vault, so as much as I love me the BOINC projects, I may morally have to take a pass on that one for now... :D

On another note - anyone know if I can split my two 9600GSO (in the same box) to have only one do GPUGRID in BOINC, leaving the other for folding? I hate seeing that goose egg after my name in GPUGRID, and can't figure out how to get BOINC to use only one card, but don't want to stop my F@H completely, either...

Thanks for the info, I'll do some more research when I get home. My first CPU task finally finished, and I got almost 6K points for 49 hours of crunching, so that's not too bad. I counted 132 WUs in my queue, so I should be able to run for the next year even with no internet.

BTW, I said I was done, but there's a small voice in the back of my head saying "MOAR D." I have an empty Antec 300 sitting in the corner that looks sad.

i wish i had more cases and gfx cards for my extra systems.. but i dont have enough room in my bedroom to run any naked systems..

Looks like there's some more pushback against Aqua being added to the Vault. At any rate, we broke into the top 100 and it looks like some users/teams may boycott the project, so we'll probably do OK either way.

MOAR D

Hell, I got two (almost) empty pizza boxes in the fridge... Oh, never mind... :D

I'd love to set up a naked rack in my garage for a few more systems, but being in the central valley of California, that becomes very unpractical during the summer months!

yeah over here in the east bay(delta valley) running something in the garage is a bad idea.. :p especially since the sun sits on my garage door for 7 hours out of the day..

where in the central valley are you?

OK, I read over at the Aqua forums that others are having similar results with the 3.26 CUDA workunits. They're apparently huge, runtimes of over 40 hours with GTX cards, screen sluggish, etc., although some people are still reporting quick (<10 hours) results. It looks like there are different sizes of WU with different points, so maybe I just lucked out and got some really big ones. At least they seem to give decent points, although some people are saying the 3.26 CUDA points are not as good as GPUGRID.

ahh i lived out in shitville stockton for 16 years.. off hammer lane near I-5.. worst god dang city in california.. far worse then even LA..

im sure it will take em some time to work out the kinks.. and get the points right.. atleast they offer cpu WU's.. so your not just stuck with the GPU stuff like gpugrid..

Thanks also to tr0ach, metallicafan, and sirmonkey for continuing to push on Wieferich@home. It looks like the Cows are out of reach for now, but we should pass ALPS Electric Czech s.r.o. in about 7 days at the current pace.

MOAR D!

(If I do build a new box, I'll take it to work where I get free electricity.)

yeah i still have my x2 6400+ crankin away at W@H.. and i have my quad on SoB still..

Yeah I've been wanting to build my first Quad rig. I just bought a hard drive yesterday. Not sure how much longer I can wait before I order a Quad. :)

I just finshed a bunch of W@home units today. I switched the rigs over to Enigma but I'll switch them back as soon as we hit 9K.

I hear you on the quad. I have a case, gpu, hdd, and memory. No mobo, cpu or psu. I have no money though so can't have my quad quite yet. As soon as we hit 9k I'll probably run either more SoB or some ABC until we get to 9k.

unless you plan to go i7 i think the 955 is a better choice.. my 940 can actually match sazaneyes i7 on some projects.. but kicks the i7's ass on W@H :p
i wish i had waited a few extra months to get the 955 but oh well.. i love my 940..

im going to throw another 2 laptops on SoB so i should be some where around 25 mil jems/s.. going to keep my 6400+ on W@H for as long as possible..

so those that have run SoB do you like using the SoB client or using p95 to run the SoB projects? trying to see if i really should waste my time changing clients on this system since the SoB client runs perfectly fine.. and the p95 client sucks balls for showing progress..

I like the newer client better. Simplified into 1 window. For showing progress, I say it shows it well enough. Similar to F@H showing checkpoints. Overall I like it and would recommend the upgrade. The 1 window got me, I like less clutter.

lol if you saw my task bar.. removing 3 items wouldnt really help me.. :p

i just like being able to see my progress more.. i guess im just to use to BOINC..

i guess ill have to try it later after i finish these full tests..

Okay, got both the dnet CPU client & the beta GPU cuda 2.0 client running on my dual core along side BOINC, and we'll see how the cuda drivers do with Windows fast-user switching BS...

Does 14M key/sec for RC5 sound about right on a 3.2GHz machine that's also running BOINC on both processors (first rig in sig)?

edit: wait, am I reading this right? I just installed the Cuda client, and it's telling me it going to expire in just over a day?!

Code:
[Jun 16 04:43:33 UTC] 1 cruncher has been started.
[Jun 16 04:43:33 UTC] *** This BETA release expires in 1.09:08:26.00. ***
.....10%.....20%.....30%.....40%.\
[Jun 16 04:53:33 UTC] *** This BETA release expires in 1.08:58:26.00. ***
.....10%.....20%.....30%.....40%.....50%.....60%.-

yeah its pretty annoying with rc5 with the beta's expiring and shit.. should be a new one up before or right after this one expires.. unless they screw up again and it takes 2 months for them to release it.. which has happened plenty of times before..

My first Aqua CUDA unit finished after 80 hours, and I got 12,486.95 pernts. That's OK, but not great.

only 12k points.. thats weak.. 14 hours on gpugrid = 4,900ish points.. so we will say 4,900x 5(80/15)= 24500... that should of been how many points you got at a minimum..

Yeah, there's discussion at their forum about how the points don't equal GPUGRID right now. Apparently they've been adjusting points on the fly, and people thought earlier work gave too much, and now they say it gives too little (especially since the GPU WUs have gotten bigger). Eh, I'll keep it running for a while.

id run aqua.. but screw 80 hours on my 8800GT..since i pause my clients all the time to play games..

I was thinking of doing it on the cheap and grabbing an AMD 810x4. For only $170 its a pretty good deal. Should still be able to OC it plenty with a decent board.

Finally got all my boxen over to Enigma. Looks like we are already piling on the points and moving up the board. Up to #46 in the project i see and the 6th biggest producing team of the day.

More D!!

tr0ach - Looks like you are still rocking some Milkyway@home. You still using an ATI card? Have you used the new CUDA app yet?

170's not bad.. but id take a black edition AMD processor over a regular locked multi processor any day even if it costs me an extra 20 bucks.. saves me 2 hours of headaches when overclocking.. not to mention the x3 720 smokes the 810 for breakfast.. due to the higher L3 cache..

Congrats metallicafan on 1 MILLION BOINC pernts!

That's a hell of a lot of crunching - Rock on [H] commando!

Next up, sirmonkey! 200K to go... Should be easier with the 10K ppd you're putting up in GPUgrid, right? :D

Congrats to both of you!

I am testing out SoB sieveing using the sr2sieve program. It is definitely tricky to figure out. If I am successful, (I am testing a range now) hopefully we can earn some much needed points. Does anyone have expeirence with SoB sieveing?
