DC Vault

Any word if it works with a Nvidia G80 core? I have mine working on RC5 right now since it wont work on the Grid. If it would work on a G80 core I can throw that onboard. We should crack 9K Vault points by tomorrow in RC5. :)

Aqua has gpu units that work now.
I don't know if it runs on a G80 or not, works great on a G92. ( I think it will run on a G80 core)
Under the Aqua preference in your Aqua account settings you can set it to use cpu or gpu or both.

I have my prefs set to get only cuda work:

Run only the selected applications: AQUA_CUDA and AQUA = yes to both
If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications? = no
Use Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) if available? = yes
Use Central Processing Unit (CPU)? = no

I haven't been able to get any AQUA GPU work and right now it looks like the server is down. Can't even get to the site.

metallicafan, for working on the G80 core I have my 8800gts 640 and I don't think it will work.It seems to hiccup and cause my whole computer to stop working and I cannot click anything. It will sometimes let me click and when I can I chose to pause the GPU unit. As soon as it paused my computer was fine. I tried running it again and it froze just like before. Maybe its my setup I am not sure. WinXP and boinc 6.6.20.

Edit: I updated to boinc 6.6.36 and still have the same problems.

WinXP 64bit or 32 and what video driver are you using?

I noticed that on Vista x64 with 185.85 or later worked fine but Vista x32 with 182.50 the DWM.exe (Desktop Window Manager) need about 24% cpu time.
So I'm just running it on my Vista x64 machines with 185.85 and newer drivers and let GPUGRID run on my Vista x32 machine.

The Aqua units seem to run on my 8800GS cards on Win7, although they're taking a while. I'm running both CPU and GPU, although it's taken a while to clear out some existing BOINC tasks so I haven't completed any Aqua work yet.

yeah i went back to the 182.xx drivers.. the 185.85 drivers are a pile of shit.. i swear to god nvidia must of hired a bunch of ATI people to make their drivers now..

winxp 32 bit 185.85 for the drivers
Check your device manager and see if DWM.exe is using any cpu time, and maybe suspend all task except the Aqua gpu work and see how much cpu time it is using when running by it self, you may need to run one less cpu task to give it room to run if Aqua gpu needs more than around 4-5% cpu time when it runs by its self.

I should have my first Aqua gpu task done in about an hour on my Vista x64 186.08 drivers. Looks like about 8 hours total to complete on GTX 260. I will report what the credit is to give everyone a expected points/time estimation.

It freezes before I can even look. I had to shutdown and reboot. For now I am going to stay away from Aqua@home.

Ok, thanks for trying EricE.
You cover all the other projects for me while I help get our score up in Aqua. :D

How long do the Aqua CUDA units take to run? I've got two that have run for 14-16 hours and have 22-25 hours left. Maybe I should switch to the GTX 285?

First Aqua CUDA unit I have finished took 8 hours on the wall clock and received 4,671 points on a GTX 260 with heavy overclock with 186.08 drivers.
That just slightly less then what I would have received from GPUGRID on the same card in the same time.
http://aqua.dwavesys.com/workunit.php?wuid=676327

Second Aqua CUDA unit finished took 11:22 hours wall clock time and received 4,542 points on a 8800 GTS (G92) 512mb with heavy overclock with 185.85 drivers.

About the same points I would have received on that card in the same time from GPUGRID.

hey, Metallicafan once RC5 gets over 9000 would you like to make a run with me on Enigma until that passes 9000?

I'll back of SoB let sirmonkey catch up a little and if we both push we can pass it pretty quick.

What do ya say?

Well i just started a Aqua WU in my 8800GTS (G80) and it seems to be working. BOINC reports its using .1 CPU and 1 CUDA. How have your guys' GPU temps been? My card was running about 67C when doing RC5 and now on Aqua it running at 53C (which is about what it runs at idle). I just wonder if it actually doing anything. This CUDA unit it estimating about 2.5 hours to complete.

Sure. That sounds good. I'll back my CPUs off of ABC@home and jump on Enigma. I would bet that we could even push 9200 - 9300 without too much trouble. Lots of inactive teams in front of us.

Did you run any RC5 today? I did almost a full day of processing so we might get 9K on tonight's update.

My GPU's running Aqua CUDA are a few degrees less then when they run GPUGRID.
GTX 260 (Aqua CUDA 52c) (GPUGRID 57c)
8800 GTS G92 (Aqua CUDA 57c)

Your time to completion estimates may be off until you have completed a few of them.

I am doing some for RC5. Just running it on my lone 8800gts.

Yeah we should defintely be able to get Enigma quick. I mean its only like 300 vault points.

Edit: My farm is running all enigma now. Lets see how quick we really can do this.

To get to 9k in the vault for Enigma we need to about double our current teams points. So count me in.

So, anyone care to venture a guess as to who the user of the day for Hydrogen@Home is? :D

damnit.. im just short of 20 million jems/s on SoB with a single quad core processor.. :( 19.99 million jem/s

not bad for a 3.5ghz phenom II 940 :p

i bet if i turned gpugrid off for 24 hours id hit the 20 million mark.. since gpugrids choking my 4th core..

Is anyone running Open Rendering Environment project? If so do they have the invite code I would need to join?

I do, but that option is no longer available to me.
They must have got enough people or something. I'll see what I can find out and if I can get you an invite code that I can e-mail to you.

Edit: In the Forum's there is someone else asking about the option to send an invite key missing in our accounts and the mod replied that he had answered that in the news section.
Well I'll be damned if I can find the news section! Not in the RSS feeds either.
I quoted the mod and asked for a link to the news section or the post that tells us why this option is no longer available to us...I'll let you know when I find something more concrete out.
- Perhaps ask Bok over at Free-DC if he knows anything about it.

Looks like we made 9K on RC5 last night. :)

I think that I am going to take a break on W@home and swap those machines over to Enigma until we get to 9K. I wont be able to swap them over until Monday though. Just finishing up the last few ABC WUs and then I'll be all in for Enigma. ;)

EDIT: Aqua at home doesnt seem to run in my G80 core. It says its running but it hung at 1.2% and then did nothing. Looks like its time to upgrade that old card. :(

Sweet Enigma here we come. :)

Yeah I hate that my only nice video card is a 8800gts 640. Its a nice card but its the old G80 core and nothing likes it.

Yeah I hear you there. I inherited two 8800GTS 320mb's from a friend when he upgraded to a GTX260. I wish they would work on the GPUGRID. The only thing that seems to work well with them in RC5. :(

I might swap it back out for my 4850 and run some more Milkyway.

Thanks Razor. DrugDiscovery@Home is another one I would like to give a try but it also needs an invite code.

you could always send the cards to me :p i have 2 half built systems with no graphics cards and i can run RC5 :p

Damn, you beat me to it by 30 minutes! :D But you did give me an idea - I can run RC5 on cuda? Maybe I can try throwing my 8600GT at that...

Thanks Razor. DrugDiscovery@Home is another one I would like to give a try but it also needs an invite code.
Sorry I don't even have an account at Drug Discovery, I know whats my problem, well actually I may have an angle but I need to wait for about a month to use it, but when I do I'll let you know.

Is it just me or is Enigma out of work? Looks like Aqua GPU units are gone as well.:(

EDIT: Yep sirmonkey - you were right. I just got about another dozen Enigma units.

enigma is always in and out of work.. not a suprise though.. im sure they saw over a 300% jump in WU requests/returns within a couple hours of it being added to DC-vault.. and they just havent been able to catch up with it..

I had to set up AQUA preferences kinda strange to get just CUDA wu's.

AQUA_CUDA=yes
AQUA=yes
accept work from other applications?=no
use GPU=yes
Use CPU=no

That's the only way it would issue me CUDA work.

Ah thanks Mr. Flibble. I didnt have the AQUA=yes. Now i grabbed a few WUs. I'll take a break from GPUGRID for a couple days and help out with Aqua. The G80 is back on RC5 for now.

sirmonkey - If they were mine I would send you one. Since they are technically a friends cards I better not. Although I could ask him, he might be willing to sell them cheap. he has no use for them anymore. PM me if interested. I could see what he would let them go for.

i was just kidding.. theres no way id put money up or 2 8800GTS g80 cards.. and either way these 2 8800GT's are the last nvidia cards ill ever own.. unless for some unforseen reason ATI goes bankrupt and shuts down.. ill be going back to ATI.. rather deal with ATI's crappy drivers knowing that they are crappy.. then having to update nvidia drivers every 2 weeks for them to not actually fix anything..

Wild, I have mine set the same way.:D

Aqua gave me tons of both CPU and GPU workunits (at least 3 pages to scroll through in BOINC). However, I still haven't finished a single WU. The The CPU ones seem to be running OK, but the GPU units are at 44-46 hours and say they still have 29-35 hours left. This is way longer than GPUGRID took to run. I'm wondering if it just doesn't like my 8800GS cards, or if I somehow got monster WUs that are worth a bunch of points. If something's wrong I'd like to switch back to F@H, and maybe use the GTX 285 for Aqua instead.
