The new free to download Cryengine 3 SDK comes with that forest level we have seen in videos before you can play with. Nothing great but good way to kill a few minutes if you are bored.

Here is a nice HD video walk through of the entire level i made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyeA8C-v-uU

Hold on a second guys. I am going to create a sweet video. The pics were re-sized and don't do justice.

is it just more or does the guys thumb look like the joints are backwards? look at the first and second joint's..

Everything about those screenshots looks like shit. Is this what we get with consolization? I think so.

guys i messed up. I recorded on medium setting but just made a new video with HIGH settings! uploading now!:D

EDIT: oh yeahh! huge difference between med and high!

How did you record from your DS?

Is AA optional? Can you force it in control panel or something?

Display > AVI Recorder

Be warned after you stop recording it takes several minutes to process the video. If you refresh the folder you saved it to, you can see the final file size growing

Fraps was not letting me record the right way. It was putting huge black frames around a shrunk video window so the buil-tin AVI recorder works great.

lol... I didn't want to be the first one to say it. Even the Source Engine looks better than that.

I agree on the first part. I'm waiting on the high settings video to be uploaded and processed before I think too much on the second :p

^^it actually looks somewhat decent, if it wern't for that annoying false/inverse HDR every dev seems to have a hard on for.

What the hell are your settings in that? Draw distances seem incredibly short. Many of the foreground objects, such as trees / posts etc. all have horrible textures. The rocks, general geometry, buildings, lighting etc. look good but none of that makes up for the poor hand and weapon models.

The high settings i think fix the draw distance problems. High adds a lot more atmosphere also.

be sure to watch the video in at least 720p.

Well that's improved. They finally got CryEngine3 on a PC to look about as good as CryEngine2. Congrats Crytek!

Texturing on some objects could still be better. The hand model is still horrendous.

Looks like a game from 2007 called Crysis, only with tessellation and maybe some lighting improvent.

Crytek sucks, sorry, they just don't make good games. They were known for amazing graphical detail but they haven't done anything impressive since CryEngine 2.

content != engine features

the example content isn't the hottest, but it's there and you can do whatever the fuck you want to it, including reskinning it with enormous parallax occlusion mapped ultra textures etc etc. the lighting is far and away superior, real time global illumination is in it's pretty neat. i had over 1000 dynamic lights all over the place at one point and performance was fine.

dx11 isn't implemented in it yet, it's supposed to be coming back soon.

here's something i made in an hour of fucking around and couldn't figure out how to texture the terrain properly because i was too lazy to read a couple paragraphs. i think it's pretty good for having no idea what in the fuck i was doing.

the white things trailing behind are the (fucking annoying) particles for the default checkerboard texture, and yes i went berserk with the post processing. it's all editable. it actually looks quite pretty during the day, which is interesting because i deliberately tried for a spooky vibe at night.

basically it's fucking awesome for developers.

Nice dude!

If you are interested in getting into this there is also what looks like a nice book out on it: CryENGINE 3 Cookbook http://www.amazon.com/CryENGINE-3-C...1061/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1313646780&sr=8-1

The second video was much better. I mean it looks good but it didn't shock me or anything.

the fuckkk

I just made a hot shit 2048x2048 brick texture and oh hey they forgot to include the photoshop plugin to export it as their format

hurrrr crytek

Now THAT is awesome. If you only did that in an hour, I can't wait to see some of the things come out of this. Even with the checkerboard pattern, it just reminded me of Alice in Wonderland. Very nice.

The road tool pretty much made the entire path up the mountain for me, I just plopped it down over some random terrain and had it carve out a nice path. You can paint the terrain in 3d which is how I got the whacky arches going over, and then painted batches of models onto it as well.

Pretty much just selected a bunch of models that sounded good, like rocks, brush, and some trees, and swept my mouse over the area. Drag and dropped some rain and lightning, tweaked some knobs, bam.

No compiles, no wait. Hit a hotkey and it plops you in game. It's pretty awesome.
