x800xt OPTIMIZATIONS ON
geforce 6800 ultra OPTIMIZATIONS OFF.
as ive mentioned in other posts that many reviewers have already done.
if they shut them off they would have mentioned it but they didnt so i can already tell it is off. I hope to hear the official word that this is the case but im pretty sure it is. No one seems to want to address this since ive seen it hinted at earlier by other posters but no one picked it up and rolled with it.
not that theres a big difference either way. either card is going to play the game with max settings reguardless and theres like a 5 fps difference who the HELL cares. but just for sake of argument i believe the optimizations are off. if they set both cards to high quality (why the hell would they set them to medium or low?) then optimizations are off by default on nvidia hardware where ATI's are always on. if they set the optimizations on again they would have mentioned it.
theres still sm 3.0 support to be implemented to hl2 and CS so the way i see it it should be dead even give or take a couple fps. who ever said 30% needs to climb a bridge and....
anyway my 2 cents...
mr.fishie said:either way we dont know if optimizations were on or off considering they never mention it in the article,

see shall we, in time. patience you must have. released HL2 will be and then our answer we shall have.

The Batman said:They come off by default. You gotta knock it down to HIGH PERFORMENCE before all the opts are enabled. If they had done that I'm sure they would have told us.

Xenozx said:so i guess they tested on medium or low quality right?
we dont test high end cards on high quality we test them on low. or thats waht your saying
my 4 cents 8p

SuX0rz said:Well $%#@, it looks like the IQ of the 6800 U is crap...I should take my Ultra back and go get in line on Dell's web site for a X800XT.![]()
Please, the detail is so close that it's not going to be noticeable in game play. And I will be shocked if HL 2 runs 30% better on an ATi card. Its just not going to happen like that and factors like CPU, memory, etc will have more of an effect then whether some is using a 6800 U or X800XT.

Shit there is already a gap of 7fps already @16x12....(Doom 3 anyone?) the difference now is that the shoe is on the other foot and with this being the forum it is, the toys are being thrown out of the pram![]()
Funny that 7fps was the whole world when D3 benchies were released and that Nvidia had 'WON' the war
So you've all shot yourselves in the foot by buying a 6800 series card for 1 game, big deal, you'll still be able to play HL2 just as good as we ATI owners play D3.
One more time for ppl that didn't read it"The ATI Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition will be the fastest graphics card for games based on the Source Engine, particularly Half Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source."

well turns out, my 9800 pro 256mb @ 420/365 runs doom.3 at 1600x1200 8xAS with very respectable framerates...on ULTRA settings.. and even my bro with 64mb gf4 4200 is running it at 1024x768 on HIGH settings.

sorry guys, these benches are just worth a quick read and nothing else IMO.

defenseman said:well neither could i. there are a fewslight load times...maybe 3-4 per level lasting 0.5-1.0sec each, and then is pretty darn smooth after that...id say at least 40fps. maybe ill dl fraps and see what im actually getting.

Funny that 7fps was the whole world when D3 benchies were released and that Nvidia had 'WON' the war.....now a mod of the bigger, better game has been benchied, 7fps is fuck all, it really is sad seeing the complete difference of reaction. So you've all shot yourselves in the foot by buying a 6800 series card for 1 game, big deal, you'll still be able to play HL2 just as good as we ATI owners play D3.
Bring on the full HL2 benchmark...WOOT
