At the moment I'm considering getting a headset for mostly sim / seated play, but I may venture out into roomscale at some point in the future as well, but it's unlikely due to setup (the room it's going in is around 17'x22', but there's a pool table in the center of it, a bed in one corner, and a desk in the other. There could end up being a roughly 7'x8' "playable" chunk if I moved some stuff around, but that's it.) I was thinking about the Odyssey+ or Rift for that reason, but if you guys think roomscale is worth it, and a 7'x8' area would be plenty, I'd gladly consider the Vive as well. I'm hung up on whether to get the Odyssey+ for the visuals, the Rift for the ergonomics and cost, or the Vive for future upgrades.
Now that that's out of the way, I also have concerns about my rig. [email protected], 16gb DDR3, GTX 970, Win7 (can upgrade to 10 for the Odyssey+ if need be). Not exactly top end, but it's what I'm working with. I'm open to picking up another GPU, but I was really planning on holding out for the next gen. If I grab another GPU, will the 4690k still hold up? Even still (in your opinion), would it be better to wait for the true gen 2 headsets, save my money, and build a rig and get into it then since I don't know what I'm missing anyways? I don't really have the coin to drop on a full rig + headset now, so if the 4690k doesn't cut it, the plan will likely be to wait for gen 2.
If I truly end up enjoying VR (assuming I purchase a headset soon), I'll most likely end up getting gen 2 as soon as it drops regardless, assuming the improvements are there.
Main games I'm interested in: FO4 VR, SkyrimVR, ED (never played it, but it looked like a blast to play in VR)
I most likely won't be back on here to check replies for about 11 hours due to work, but thanks for any input.
