Computer Abuse, what ticks u off?

another thing that tends to piss me off: ignorant mac zealots. there's two of them in my math class. i was talking about an article i was writing for our school paper on the games for windows initiative (being the only real geek in this school with enough backbone for this sort of thing, i felt obliged), and they asked me immediately "dude, why do you like windows? macs are soooooo much faster." i asked them what made them faster, they said basically said something about os 10 and a bunch of random acronyms that didn't make any sense in that context (what exactly is a "pci compatibility agp dos api"???). i told them they were faster because apple switched from their own cpus to intels, which, of course, are pc cpus, so which platform is faster??? they still said macs were better than pcs because of all the so-called "facts" those goddamn mac commercials are spewing (like, as they put it, their "virus immunity") and because, and i quote "those computers in the computer lab are shitboxes, and they have windows. what do you say to that?!?!?!" i almost fell out of my chair, these guys were so ignorant. do NOT try to convince mac zealots that they're wrong about anything computer related. they will be so stubborn and ignorant it'll make your head spin   .

edit: that helped a lot. oh and bump :D.

Not computer abuse, but I really hate status bars that go from 1%-99% in three seconds, but then stay there for 10 minutes.

I find Mac zealots or people who think Macs are totally useless annoying. PCs and Macs have their uses, and even though I will probably never need or use a Mac, I can understand why people would use them.

I love not having any desktop items on any of my rigs. For some reason it just really annoys me to see them.

Man I took of all my icons from the desktop and it felt creepy. Just looked wierd. I could not take it, so I put them all back. But having too many icons pisses me off. I only use one column on the desktop for apps that I use everyday. But having none feels weird.

in my relatively small circle of friends, i can honestly say that i'm the only onw who knows anything about computers. however, some of them think they do, which can lead to some funny conversations. here are the gems:

1. (back in 2002 when we all got The Sims) Friend: my mom made me uninstall sims
Me: what for?
Friend: Mom says it infected our computer.
Me (looking at the pc): this isn't the sims thats causing the problem. it's adware. do you click on popups all the time?
Friend: ya, whats wrong with that?

2. Me: mom, dont renew norton. its not worth the 70 bucks. avg free is just as good
Mom: whats avg? ive never heard of it.
Me: its another antivirus app. its just as good as norton and free.
Mom: we're going to keep paying for norton. they have a reliable reputation.
Me: *sigh*

3. Friend: my pc isn't working.
Me: ok. what's wrong?
Friend: battlefield 2 isn't running.
Me (after looking at the pc for exactly 45 seconds): your dell dimension 8300 can't support it.
Friend: why not?
Me: the geforce fx 5200 and single core p4 aren't fast enough.
Friend: but it's a dell. dells are the best computers you can get, aren't they?

4. my friend's mom not being able to understand that their computer engineer cousin (who knows about as much about computers as some of the bb workers mentioned here) to hook up a new monitor. worse yet, he charges them like $40 an hour and purposely says there's a "driver error" when he hasn't even hooked up the cable. $120 for plugging in a monitor. if that's not exploiting i dont know what is.

I could go on and on, but it's time for h4l0w33n f00lz!!1

Dude, I've been there. I hate it whenever they dont understand. and Norton is a resource hog! it takes my dads Dimesion 3000 10 mins to boot up cause of it!

Ah, the mac zealot... here are some recommendations to screw around with their minds:

1. Keep hammering in the fact that they're stuck in terms of gaming with Quake and Halo. There is no such thing as a mac gamer. Same for software.

2. Ask them if it makes them feel better if they spend a few extra hundred dollars for non-standard PC components that are un-upgradeable than if they had a PC.

3. Tell them the reason that Macs have no security problems is because the fact that hackers don't give a shit about Macs. They figure users are suffering enough already.

4. Remind them that after the warranty expires, Apple is a bitch about service, even charging for a call.

5. Lastly, remind them that Macs now can run Windows, and start chanting "One of us, one of us!" :D

I tried this on a friend of mine who likes Macs... it worked... sorta.

Using a computer with the My Documents icon instead of the My Computer icon at the top left of the desktop.

Everyone understands that, zealots are just way too stuck up on Mac superiority to admit it.

On the other hand, most Mac users tend to keep to their own circles... Not all that many say, "LOL NOOB U USE A PC HAHAHA GET A SUPERIOR MAC COMPUTER LOL" unless directly insulted first...

Most dumbass (read: 14 year old) PC users are the first to fling around Mac-centric insults... Ususally in about 50% real english, avoiding as many grammatical rules as possible... The perfect response to such a comment is; "Hows that extra chromosome treating you?" as it's perfectly politically incorrect, yet they just can't comprehend what you're telling them.

But yeah... Outside the laptop market, anyone that needs a Desktop Mac is either a hardcore professional (cheaper than comparable PCs), computer illiterate or an idiot...

people who don't take care of media.

at my cousins house were my and my friends always hangout, we've got loads of PS2/gamecube/dvd/music discs and whenever its time to change out a disc it just gets placed upsidedown on the nearest flat surface, on a table, ontop of the system or tv.

then when i bring burned cds over and 2 weeks later everyone complains the cd i made is skipping its MY fault.

I HATE IT.

People with 5.1 or 7.1 surround that puts the speakers all in one place. Why would you want to invest in 7 speakers if you are just going to place it on the desktop. The idea of surround sound is to be SURROUNDED.
Also don't touch my LCD since I took a lot of time to clean it.
Lastly, learn the GD specs of your computer before asking me questions.

What's worse is when the twats scratch the media that they BORROWED from you and won't replace it.

- People that keep saying "It's your fault because of this!" "It's your fault because of that!" and still keep coming back.

im pretty sure stupid kids that think pc gaming is for retards has already been said, but i'll say it again, primarily because of this. the paragraph on pc gamers is the dumbest thing ive read all week, so i figured id post it.
