I have this guy sitting next to me at work who just pounds at the mouse, so far i have had to replace 2 in the past 6 months. Every time i hear him clicking it, it ticks me off, its like *CALICK*

What have u seen people do to their computers intentionally/unintentionally that gets on your nerves?

Touching the monitor. More specifically, dragging their fingers across their LCD monitors pointing out things. I'm easily annoyed I guess. :p

Same thing for me. Bugs the hell out of me.

same here I can't stand fingerprints on my monitor... I also hate when my mouse sticks when it needs cleaned and my sister seems to think that smacking it off the desk will somehow fix it

People that click every possible advertised link on every possible site they have ever visited and complain later of how their computer runs like shit and all these strange new programs are on it. :)

I've gotten into an arugment with the wife over this so many times, I could care less if she does it to her system, it's nt mine, but when she does it to mine it bothers me to know end.

Coworker gets pissed at his computer and tosses his mouse around...like that helps.

Ill-advised modifications and poor purchasing decisions, for me.

Ignorant people who actually buy computers and expect everyone else to fix their problems for them. Also ignorant people in general.

I hate it when I overhear two people who think they know something about computers talk about them, when infact that know nothing.

Indeed. Like the kid that said you had to push the wires out from under the CPU, and how he had a "crossfire gfx chip".

 :p

I think totally computer ignorant people are MUCH MUCH better than people who learn something and decide that what they know is sufficient so they never ask for or care about another opinion. I can easily help people who know nothing about hardware/software related issues but when it comes to smartasses that's another story.

If this was in reply to my post, the kid wouldn't listen to how to properly install a CPU. He just insisted on his "method".

When I worked at Circuit City, people would come in and play on the most expensive computers we had, and many times we would have to write off and replace some of the computers because people were idiots!

This one time there was this like 13 year old kid with a bottle of Coke eating some greasy potato chips next to a $3,000 Sony laptop... I went over to her and I was like 'You can't drink that next to the computer' she just looked at me like I was crazy... Thankfully she never did spill it, but God, I kept my eyes on her....

Eating/Drinking near high-end computer equipment.

going to alienware/dell/falcon nw or the like and buying a non lappy desktop computer and thinking ure a computer guru and god and u know everything.....

also people who go into circuit city/bb/whatever and buy graphics cards for twice their value... im almost tempted to yell at the guy....., or people who need geeksquad :D

that is sort of what I meant in the first place, like the kid you mention... he knows 2 things about computers

1- there is a cpu
2- it has to be installed using a method

if he was completely ignorant he would listen to you word for word as he too would agree that he doesn't know the first thing about computers. since he has been fed a piece of information here and there and joined them in all kind of wrong ways to come up with a "method" he wouldn't listen to you because NOW he thinks he knows his stuff. Sad to see these people really, the more ou try to help the more they get offended :(

Truth. I tried to explain to him, but he claimed that someone from the Geek Squad taught him and that my knowledge couldn't beat his buddy's.

Oh well, let him bend the pins on any CPU he installs by 'moving the wires away'.

:p

just wanted to share some experience on this front, I have a friend who has some other dumbass friend who thinks he knows about computers. My pal wants to buy a new computer and he invites us (me and the idiot) with him to the store to help him pick parts. The troll-along-village-idiot goes on and on about how my friend should get a Mac because a Mac wouldn't break down. I try to argue with him that all hardware is prone to malfunction and failure and that higher quality pc parts are usually much more reliable than standard Mac hardware.
I had to sit there and argue with him because once upon a time his thick head somehow had absorbed this block of so-called fact through the giant pores he calls his ears and now there is no way any reason or logic would let him accept or even consider otherwise...

edit : lol @ post above

Haha...with his logic, a Ford could be better than a Rolls-Royce, since Fords don't fail.

My biggest gripe is when people who I help with thier computer calls for "technical advice" without reading the directions.
gwarren007

when someone changes settings on my machine; under XP i can fix anything but this girl messed around with my vista install and it took 15mins to deactivate the text to speach thing and get my desktop back.

Realizing that the IT firm I interned with this summer charges their clients 125$ an hour.

People who have their files just thrown all over the damn place. I can't stand a messy system, just kills me.

Oh, and one of my friends (who's not dumb) once ran the defrag and it came up at 98% fragmented. That just drove me nuts. Which was compounded by the fact that his system was so much better than mine.

for my is ppl who uses dells and think that their the best and i have to fix them.... i have worked on more dells then HP,Compaq,Gateway ects.. and the funny part is when i get a call to come over that my computer is not working and its not even PLUG IN! lol... some ppl are just dumb. ;)

but still pisses me off when i get a call that my computer is not working when its not plug in.. er..

Mother fuckers that just pull out there thumb drives instead of stopping them first!!!

People who make the assumption that, because I'm such a nice guy, and because I know so much about computers, I won't mind fixing their computer or their parent's/uncle/best friend/cousin's computers, and I won't mind working for free.

I am generally helpful to people if they have problems, but theres always that person who takes an act of kindness for granted and then expects me to be their personal IT bitch. Its not so much working for free, its that these people don't even offer a few bucks or some beer or anything, just expect me to come by and fuck with their computer for hours while they interrupt me and ask all kinds of questions that they never remember the answers to, but manage to turn a 2 hour job into an all day thing.

every day in my computer networking class my friend that sits next to me hits the monitor, the lcd part, like on purpose...just to piss me off...and that really pisses me off

the dumb little fucks who think that just because I'm younger (18yrs) I don't know what the hell I'm doing. I have business cards, invoices, and I've traveled across the country for IT jobs. YOU THINK ALL THIS MEANS NOTHING YOU FUCKIN TWAT?

Edit: wow. I feel better.

Don't touch the screen.
Why do people have to touch the screen, it's just wrong.

Oh, and jamming the tray on their drive shut like a dresser drawer that is over stuffed with clothes, when all it takes is a nudge..

Ok, is it better to hit the eject button to have the tray slide shut or just push the mother fucker in? I want to fight my roommate everytime he shuts my xbox with a shove... i like the eject button....

especially when women poke them with their long nails (nothing against women...just commenting on their nails ;))

1. People that read a computer magazine and suddenly know more than anyone aside from a "professional"
2. People that claim they have a secure windows computer based on having a complex password
3. People that won't let you challenge their "super secure" windows computers
4. People that actually fight learning :)confused: )
5. People that call apple's shuffle an ipod
6. People that think apple products are inherently better (ex. specs matter if you buy a pc but if you buy a mac it's a null topic?)
7. etc...

The touching the monitor thing drives me nuts as well.

One thing that always got me was how people would go off at the price of repair work on a computer when I worked in retail. It is like we should fix them for nothing. Drove me nuts. So glad I'm out of that world.

One thing that gets me now is I will go to a cleints site and go to fix a machine killed with spyware or something. Person will look at me and try to play it off. I just look back in front of their boss and go "need to keep off the porn/poker sites" as I walk out. Great to hear someone try to play that shit off. It's like I didn't know everything they did. Humm temp files, history, cookies, log files from server etc...

Icons on the desktop.

I dont know why, but i cannot stand seeing a single icon on my desktop. I get rid of them all. I look at my girlfriends comp and start twitching everytime i see it. its filled

A generally messy comp.

CLEAN OUT YOUR DAMN COMPUTER! get a can of compressed air.

I was helping a customer with his comp, installing a video card. His comp had mold. FREAKIN MOLD in it. And dust everywhere. After i cleaned it, here is the exchange.

Me: Use a can of compressed air to keep the inside of your computer clean

Him: a can of compresed air isnt going to keep my computer clean

Me: No, YOU'RE going to keep it clean using a can of compressed air.
