Commodore Rocks...Because I Said So

Why didn't you take him up on the free system offer and ran your own reviews? That would have been a professional knock out without needing to post flaming emails.

If you read the article you will see where we accpeted that option with open arms....but they told us it would be "months" before we could get a unit. That hardly answers the immediate questions put forth.

Well, the Commodore XX-Gaming boxes have had some reviews already.

Verdict

If you’re expecting the same level of innovation that Commodore delivered in the early 80s then you’ll be disappointed – this is just a PC. The C-Kin concept is pretty cool and is its biggest selling point. There’s a good selection to choose from and you should find something you really like. Be warned though, the case underneath is average at best and in the end, I just didn’t get the same buzz from using it as I would from a Dell XPS, Alienware or Vadim PC.

However, if you like the idea of artwork on your PC, and want to save a few quid compared to the likes of the aforementioned, it’s got to be worth considering. And yes, it’ll play Space Invaders.

Bit Tech:

"Underneath is still your bog standard PC case made of plastic and steel. In comparison, the Dell XPS looks phenomenal lit up."

"If we had to drop £3,000 on a pre-built PC, the Commodore would still be a definite consideration for the shopping list but we'd probably still go for a Vadim or Dell XPS 720."

These don't seem to be ringing endorsements.

Tell him to send it anyways, lets see how long they will take. Nothing to lose, except a free system that performs the same as any other hardware out there :p

Did he list his other "reviewers", it would be interesting to see if they play on the numbers... or if the "reviewers" are also faked.

We never declined a review unit.

Commodore never produced any links or data to even begin to back up their data.

While staying out of this discussion about a potential new competitor, Kyle typically sends me one line e-mails, and I've always understood he's keeping the BS out, which I truly appreciate. Everyone in the PC business knows this. Nobody takes it personally, just business. This incident does not seem out of character for Kyle, who takes his responsibility to al of us readers very seriously.

Thanks Randy.

But then to talk about how you are not willing to spend your time testing the machine to disprove their claims... WTF? That is exactly what the [H] is supposed to do. That's why I come here.

To be clear we told them we would love to review a box of theirs and they told us that was months away. We NEVER turned it down.

Actually, we got out of the business of testing fully built computer systems some months ago. So if that is all you come here for, I would suggest there is not much reason to visit anymore.

I am well aware that he is the founder, no arguement there. But I am not privy to the inner-workings of HardOCP. How would I know if the company doesn't have multiple owners, silent partners, hell even a board of directors? Truth is I don't, and neither do you. Unless you work at HardOCP or are best buds with Kyle I doubt anyone in this forum knows.

I do appreciate you drawing attention to this point though. After further consideration I believe my intentions would be better served by saying KYLE himself should reconsider his position at HardOCP. Much like Nixon reconsidered his presidency just before he resigned his position. I think this would go a long way to garner trust and appreciation from his visitors since such an act would be selfless and in the best interests of his readers.

I am not saying he shouldn't continue to be the Chief Editor but perhaps leaving the journalism to others with better people skills would do the company and us readers a better service.

Well, there is a tiny difference here....you can choose not to read our pages. I don't think you got to simply close the window and then Nixon went away...

So, let me get this straight. You replied to him in an unprofessional manner (panties comment) because he first replied to you in an unprofessional manner? How old are you?

As for the article... You mean to tell me a PR guy is full of crap?! What's this world coming to? Next thing you know, used car salesmen will start ripping people off!

Glad you're happy about all the page hits though. I'm just really sad that I was one of them.

you make it sound like all of that is OK, but I'd rather go with kyles method then get ripped off, and to the rest of your comments, LOL you need to learn how to read and understand what you're reading at the same time! (theres an unprofessional reply for you)

Honestly, as soon as the Commodore PR Representative started to backpedal, I would've been all over his boss to find out the real deal.

While i'm not one to throw anyone under the bus, in this case it's warranted.

Kyle trying to protect his readers as well as the public from obvious and blatent disinformation tactics should be commended.

I'm also sick and tired of these "bullshit" synthetic benchmarks which, quite frankly, are used to fool the public in thinking the product is % faster than..etc..etc.

I think i like this quote best:

"I just didn’t get the same buzz from using it as I would from a Dell XPS"

lulz, not the most ringing endorsement in my opinion (although much like the lauded comodore C-skins, the newest XPS Gen 7 exterior is pretty sexy).

Also, if i report kyles post for calling me a pussy, would he get modded :D ?

We only try to help you kyle. There are many people here, from varied backgrounds, that actually have some advice that would be good for you to learn from. No really, it's true.

There are some people who are so pig headed, that they think they are the only right person in this world. Everyone else is so low that they are there soly to manipulate and control.
This coming from the person that has the following quote in their sig:

"~Few people dare to challenge me. Should one do so, there is one less. "

Yes, this comming from the person with that in his sig.
Wanna make something of it. :D (J/k, haha)

You need people like me so you can point your fingers and say 'hey there's the bad guy!'

I can live with that.

You are a bad person.

Nah, you're just acting like a pc pussy, while Kyle actually has the balls to go after these pr people who are willing to lie and not back up their outrageous claims.

Since I "regurgitate the same sentiment", ha, I'll say it again:
You are a bad person.

Save your breath. I don't know the angle on posting asking for feedback and then calling a whole subsection of the feedbackers "pussies," but it's vintage KB and it's not getting anyone anywhere to question him on it.

As I said before, you and I have different experiences and responsibilities and therefore different personalities from some of the others here. Kyle is afforded the right to act like a dick as long as he can support himself doing it. It may disappoint some of us that he doesn't hold himself to the same standards of professionalism/ political correctness/ politeness or whatever, but you can't change someone else's mind for them.

If you and I don't like it, we can boycott [H], host out own editorials and run our own sites. Just don't expect him to take kindly to it in his own forums. He's not that kind of person.

Kyle,
Thanks for putting up with what you do.
I work in the industry in my own little way, and I know what kind of marketing tripe you have to put up with from these PR guys. You actually have to think about how you work every question so that you leave as little wiggle room as possible for BS.

Yea, sometimes it can come across as curt even rude, but if you aren't straightforward (almost to a fault) they can wind their way in and out of an answer without ever delivering.

I remember talking to an Intel rep before the Core 2 launch and asked him to back up some of the power need claims he was making (percentages and such). I finally pulled out a calculator, and asked him if a given number was correct after I did the math he offered up in his PR BS. While he answered, he seemed pissed about it.

Keep on truckin, man, and making [H] what it is.
if that means calling the bluff on companies like Infineon Labs and Commodore, then so be it.

It may disappoint some of us that he doesn't hold himself to the same standards of professionalism/ political correctness/ politeness or whatever, but you can't change someone else's mind for them.

This is where your argument FAILS in epic amounts. Who says what is professional and PC is correct? You? All these people who all a sudden come out of the woodwork? Who taught you what is professional and PC or did you actually spend a lot of time thinking about it to come up with your own ideas on professional and PC?

What disappoints me most is people like you who are so bent on some form of PC/politeness that does nothing other than subjugate you into a person who cannot resist any form of authority (either in law or in subject).

You're fucking kidding, right?

Don't feed those posts :p. He's changing the subject so the arguments and flames directed toward his position in the matter will shift to those "polite" responses. So people will make fun of him because of the off-topic and polite posts instead of his original position in the argument. It really wasn't necessary for him to make those off-topic posts in the first place, so that's the only reason I can come up with.

Well I went to look at the C= PC and my first thought is that I don't like the design. I just wish they would have put some time into appealing to us 30 somethings. I would be suprised if the majority of the demographic who were targeted actually bite. OK back to the flame wars!

You guys know my thoughts and have had plenty of time to respond. With that, we will call it done.

Remember, if you do not like the way things are done at HardOCP, please do not read the content. That little red X at the top of your browswer will solve most of the problems you have with us.
